Hey your video is amazing! Someone made a video telling owners to take off fuel rail ignition coils spark plugs and intake manifold off just to get to the darn thing! I knew it was bogus! Thanks for showing us all how EASY and inexpensive it really is 😎🙏👍
Probably the best one uploaded for changing the part
marcp562 thank you!
Best video for this job on the internet! Great suggestions (use a pad, what the clip looks like, use of right and left hands, etc.). Your specifics were understandable, logical, and made the job doable. THANKS!
Easiest way to do it was to do it from the left side and then reach in to unplug the sender. You don’t even have to use a swivel or universal joint. Just an extension, socket and wrench. Took me less than five minutes to change out the part
Where's your video ... 🤔
Pasanger or driver?
I had to come back to this video and thank you for the help, I was able to change out the sensor in 15 minutes now my gauge is a1, I thought it was something serious when I saw the gauge go to the max so I pulled over immediately and searched a solution and found your video
darius318 glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for this video. I bought the items I needed to perform this task in about 5 minutes. The old sensor was a mess.
Thanks again. 2006 Silverado 2500.
Thanks for giving me the confidence to try to do this. I always was worried about breaking it then I'd be screwed. Your video made it look so easy. Going to try it this weekend. Will reply back soon.
how'd it go?
I couldn’t have done this without your great tutorial. Thank You!
John
Thank you for watching!
What kind of socket is this u r using
Great Video! Exactly what was needed. I have a 2005 Hummer H2 with a 6.0L Vortec V8, the Oil Pressure unit is in the exact same position and your video did the trick, finally found that sucker, got to it and replaced it, works perfectly, thank you.
Glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
What a pain on the H2 access si much worse and you cant see it really. Fuel lines had to come off to get hands in there. all by feel
Thanks for posting this. I've needed to replace my sender for probably 5 years, but procrastinated thinking it was a bigger hassle than it was.
BroncoNS glad the video finally helped you get around to it. Thank you for watching!
Fantastic video, changed mine in 10 minutes 😀
Thanks alot man this video helped me out . People who thumbed it down are wack!
Great job Brian extremely informative as usual
ian young thank you!
Thanks Brian this was very helpful bro, hope your channel does well, I think it will with the detail you provide... Thanks...Shayne from Arkansas
I found your video very helpful messaging unit needs to be replaced a few days ago it scared me so now I know what to get thank you so much and I’ll be referring to your videos!
I finished the sensor relocation on my 2003 5.7 Corvette today. I did this job about 2 years ago but I didn't install the braided extender hose at that time. So, here we are again. (I bought the extender hose with fittings on Amazon for $99). I didn't want to disturb any more than necessary and I didn't want to drill any holes. I did not remove anything except the plastic engine cover. Although it was a royal pain in the butt, I was able to disconnect the old sensor and pull it out. For me, the hardest part was threading the extender hose into the engine. I could not get the threads lined up while rotating the hose. I had my son come over and somehow he got it threaded on his first try. 8-)
Now, my oil pressure gage no longer thinks it's a windshield wiper. It was continuously slamming full scale and back to zero. Now it sits rock steady at 42 PSI at cold idle. If (when?) this new sensor fails, it will be very easy to replace it.
Thanks man your video helped me out extremely today 2-1-2023 the oil sensor filter was a bit a pain in the butt but other than that it went smooth
I just did this .. thanks bro . I posted it on my channel 😊
Thank you so very much. You saved me 75 dollars. And I did it myself. I'm 6'5 290 and it took a bit but I got it done. Thank you again
Hah, there you are ye little bugger! Thanks man, I gotta do this to my van's 4.8--only difference being I get to do it from inside the van. :)
Don’t forget to change the filter screen along with the sensor itself.
Excellent video .
Thanks for the video! Really helped out!
Thank you for watching!
Thank you very much for the short explanation . Khalid Alyousef 🇸🇦
You made it so easy to do.
Glad to help. Thank you for watching!
Thanks, worked for my 6.0L
Thank you for watching!
Thank you buddy
Thank you, im doing mine tomorrow 1/7/22
Well Brian I just did my 02 Silverado and the sender was much longer and it fought me like cougar right to the end. OMG it was a gong show hahaha
STEVE ROB yes Steve this can be a tough one you're doing it mostly blind. Thank you for watching!
Did this work? Changing jnit?
Thank you that helps
Jose Balboa glad the video helped. Thank you for watching!
I have a 2004 Envoy XL V8 5.3L and the low oil pressure stop engine light comes on. I've been adding bottles of Lucas Stop Leak to assist with the oil pressure and that has been working. Its becoming expensive adding the stop leak and I need a solution to end the problem. I've had it checked and tested. It's reading 55 lbs of pressure when idle and there's the normal leaking of oil. When diagnosed the check engine light was for the O2 Senors which I had replaced with the Wheel Hub Bearings. Please Guide me in the right direction.
Hello. Is there a screen under the sensor on this EXACT model 2005 1500 Silvarado 4.8 thanks
From what I have seen replace the oil screen at the same time. Good video. Brother in law works at g m dealer in NY has told me the tricks to save your l s motor. Nice video.
Dont think the earlier 2000’s model have a screen
@@themackforcefive you are correct when I replaced mine their was not one. And it wound up being the pressure sending unit.
You talking about the oil pickup tube screen?
@@brandongielow8710 nonyheir is a little oil screen just below the oil pressure sensor. Not all have them but yhe newer ones do. They get plugged. My engine did not have one.
Its the diameter of a pencil 1 1/2 inches long.
Awesome bro u should make more videos
I have 970 on RUclips now. I’m still at it.
Brian, thanks for the video. Any information on the engine block ground on the right side? I have been trying to find how to replace it. On my 05 Tahoe, its torn off on the firewall and I can't see where it plugs into.
It should bolt onto the head.
Cool I’ll get right on it
Did he not say you need a special socket to get unit out?
Are the oil pressure sensors for 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L interchangeable? I have a 03 1500HD 6.0L. Some sites say the ACDelco D1846A sensor fit and some say it does not. I need to switch mine out since my oil pressure has been readin past 80. Excellent How To vid btw! Well done!
RadoMark408 i'm not a hunter percent sure if it's exact same part numbers on all the different engines. I would check with your parts dealer.
I just bought this 2500 had with the 6.0 . The gauge was maxed out so I replaced the unit with one from oriellys and now it’s saying low oil pressure . I went ahead and changed the oil pickup tube and new o ring and still saying low oil pressure . The engine doesn’t knock or make any weird noises . I do have a bad rear main leak , how can I tell if the new oil pressure unit is bad?
Same problem 08 Tahoe
Sensor replaced but still low pressure!
Any suggestions??
2006 Suburban LM7 engine, Changed Sensor, and had to rewire since we broke to wires upon removal. DID NOT CHANGE THE FILTER. Does it even have one? Spent two days and replaced the oil pump. Now we're getting gauge bouncing all over the place and repeating alarm while driving. Any suggestions?
your good thx
Manfred Von Richthofen thank you!!
Nice.
elvislives81677 thank you and thank you for watching!
I have a 2005 2500HDand I an curious if I have a screen under the sensor? Changed the sensor and still low oil pressure, time for an oil pump and pick up tube o ring! Was hoping there is still a clogged screen under the sensor. Must be after 2007?
Does the 1999 - 2000 have the filter under the oil pressure sensor?
I'm attempting to do this same project on my '07 H2 Hummer 6.0 L vortec. Problem is I can't fit my hand back there to even disconnect the wiring connector. I have the special socket and the new sensor. I removed the trunk latch bracket as well as the plastic trim piece on the top of the engine to make more room. But it's still a real pain to get My hand back there. Not to mention there's nowhere to really put your body weight outside of bear hugging the engine while keeping your feet out of the way because the hood of the hummer is there behind me. Any suggestion tips or tricks would be appreciated thanks ✅✅
Thanks!!
Thank you for watching!
Great Video, I Just Subscribed...
Thank you!
@@HowtoAutomotive Welcome..
This is good unless you have a 6.0L and medium hands... I can hardly even fit my hand back there behind the block to trace the wire. If I do get it back there I run into some sort of foam crap and the wire disappears behind it somewhere. I guess I will just have super high oil pressure forever because this shit ain't happenin'. I would personally like to find whoever designed this and waterboard them for their stupidity.
David Carlile I know what you mean!! Lol
That's funny. .most don't realize that gm small and big block have always had the sensor there..the distributor was in the back on the old ones the sensor same spot..when they went to efi you had one there for the computer and one by the oil filter for the gauge.(some had a tee fitting with two by the distributor).now the same sensor goes to both that's why it has 3 wires....it still would have been nice if they would have just put it by the oil filter...I suppose you could buy a male and female plug of the same and make a pig tail wire and move it there...
Or just take the manifold out and replace knock sensors, gaskets, valley pan , and oil sending unit all at once.
6.0, 5.3, 4.8 are all the same size only difference is the internals.
Really bad to do on Hummer H2 with 6.0L you need to remove fuel lines and even then its all by feel and need many various extentions, painful to do and wrecked sensor getting old one off and one on.
I got A 03 h2 hummer is this located there also
Hey my oils pressure says it’s low and then it shuts off after it’s been idling for a long time do you think it’s the same thing
I own a 2000 5.3 Yukon P1810 code is coming up, transmission fluid pressure switch, location? been looking.
is it the same on a 20052500 4.8l express van?
It didn't show the fix at the end. It did show how to change it. We are have an exact same problem we just need to know if it fixed it?
Just did this and unfortunately it doesn't seem to have resolved my issue. What would my next go to be?
Question what happen when apper low oil pressure turn the ignition off thats fix the problem ?
Can I still drive home?or does it have to be towed
On occasion I’ve been getting the same warning and I recently did an oil change and now my truck won’t start the very next morning after I did said oil change would be draining all the oil out of the engine affect oil pressure upon start up and does the oil pressure gauge read anything before the truck is fully started??
Is this same for 2003 Cadillac escalade
Thx iv got a 2004 2500 6.0l the oil gauge is pegged out too the right what causes that
johndeereboy24 let me guess....your speedometer doesn't work right either? I would say it's your whole gauge cluster. Very easy to replace. Looks hard but so simple. You can find a video on it. Good luck with it
I have a 2005 Yukon XL Denali 6.0 vortec engine. Have had trouble for years with my oil pressure sensor. Just sat at 80 for over a decade. Had to replace my transmission so while the Yukon was at the shop I had them replace the sensor. When I picked up the vehicle the oil pressure alarm went off when I started the car. They put in the old one and the alarm went off. 3 years later I had the cluster rebuilt and thought that would fix the problem. Still stuck at 80. So I just replaced the old sensor with a new one. Instant alarm again. My mechanic is stumped. Had to put the old one back in. Why is this happening? I obviously have oil being pumped in my engine.
What the sending unit sending sign to make the truck chime in the inside
I have an 02 avalanche and it has the right amount of oil its at 40 in the cluster but when i drive and cokme to a stop it drops back a line then i drive again and it goes back another line ..could that be the sending unit?
Ruben Islas It could be the sending unit but you really need to test oil pressure to verify.
2:23 I've heard its 26 ft lbs if you can get a torque wrench in there.
Hi how Automotive ... when low oil pressure shows in dashboard and a knocking sound in engine ,changing oil pressure sensor will fix this problem ??? thanks
Rafael Medina most likely not. Sounds like you may have Engine damage.
What about the sending units filter?
My meter drops when I come to a stop. Could the sensor be the issue?
Thanks for the video I’m getting ready to do this. Low oil light won’t go off. In the video though I noticed when you remove the plastic top cover over the intake there didn’t seem to be much room back there but then when you add the camera back there there was tons of room I am wondering did you jack the engine or the front end of her something to make the engine change position because you have a lot more room than I got. A lot more room I can’t even put my tiny little wiener in there.
Lol. No I didn’t jack the engine up at all. Definitely a tight fit back there.
How to Automotive found the difference, mine is the 6.0
I ran into the same problem low oil pressure. I change the sensor and didn't fix it. I found that there is a screen in the block. I used a pic and pulled it out. That was my problem it was plugged up. Just a little info.
cartmelb1383 hello! What model was the truck?
Which year????
@@fish4fun354 from what I have seen the engines with the screen are 2007 and up..
Is there a filter under the switch? I keep getting yes and no. (Edit - No filter if you have the cateye.)
What is the "cateye"?
Seeking The Truth “Cateye” refers to one of the two styles of front end.
How come the engine lights not on my trucks having same problem but no engine light also 330k and it’s running just fine but low pressure alarms going off when I’m stoped still
my guage reads 40psi but that warning message is saying low oil pressure? any idea why?
Will oil leak out when you take it out
My senor broke on the plastic but I put back together can I still use
Adriana Alvarado just know it can come apart and it will stop working. If it Does you will have to fix it.
The oil sending unit I purchased is longer than that one, I wonder why
*** "Special socket needed" mentioned in passing. it's a OEM Sensor Socket, 1 1/16 x 2 5/8 deep , with irregular looking flats, $12. youve been warned
Where can you buy the socket?
or 27mm deep socket works as well
In a Chevy Malibú Maxx 2004 did i have to drain the oil to change the oil presure sensor switch??????
Jack Gahan I'm not sure what Engine is in the Malibu but usually you do not need to drain the oil.
How to Automotive cool thanks my engine Is a 3.5 V6 and it have the oil pressure sensor switch like this car! In the same area
So in a nut shell you have to be a slim wirey guy to do this repair🖒 good job !
shane oneill it probably helps.
Yes no doubt, my 2006 5.3 has the sensor and to get to it I would have to remove intake manifold. My forearms and hands are too big
w73boysCJ Even with small arms and hands it’s difficult getting back there.
Have a 99 GMC C2500 Sierra and for the life of me I cannot get the sensor back in because there are so many hoses, etc in the way. Can feel hole with may hand forced back in there but . . . . .
Mine seems to alternate between 0 and 80, it's all or nothing ... is this still the sender? When I hit a bump it goes to 80, then the next bump back to zero.
dmlagrange The wiring to the sensor could be bad.. Check that first
I used a basin wrench on mine
I can't seem to get the socket to stay on there any tips???
Phillip Matney try different sockets or put some scrap paper in the socket slide it over the sensor and that should hold it .
My 05 Tahoe 5.3L oil pressure drops to zero sometimes. I don't hear lifter tick or any common symptoms that point to zero oil pressure yet my low oil pressure warning doesn't pop up on the DIC. I'm wondering if it's a bad stepper motor on the cluster. Any advice?
@Tommy Caldwell I haven't tried that yet. The reason I haven't tried that is because I'm not getting a low oil pressure warning on the DIC like the vehicle in this video. I'm wondering id the cluster is going bad. My oil pressure has been normal all week and hasn't dropped to zero. Weird.
Did you fix it yet ? My 2000 sierra reads 0
But no ticks or anything , runs great, I was thinking it was the oil sensor but maybe it’s the cluster ?
@@akidim13 I did fix mine yes. It was the cluster. The stepper motor was going bad. Best advice I can give is when your oil pressure drops to zero do you get a Check Engine Light or error message on The cluster ? If not the cluster is probably failing. If you do get an error when the oil pressure drops to zero and you hear slight ticking in the engine you have legitimate low oil pressure.
@@DJR5280 no ticking no nothing, no check engine light, only on the message center does it say “check oil pressure”, if I go full throttle it goes up to about 15 psi and the check engine pressure light turns off, I’m thinking mine is the actual sensor but if not I’m for sure doing cluster next
@@akidim13 Yours sound like the sensor. I'd start there. If you change out the sensor and still have low oil pressure and the DIC keeps telling you to check Engine oil pressure you have something else wrong. Possible the I ring on the pick up tube in the oil pan and or bad oil pump. Worst case the cam bearings backed out and engine is shot. Start with the sensor and see what happens.
How to automotive my oil gauge is on 40 after i crank it but after i put it in drive and get on the gas it goes up. Could this problem be the sensor
lolol That's what it's supposed to do! Around 40 at idle, and 65 running down highway...
Do you need to bleed the oil out before repalcing the sending unit?
Henry Lopez no need for any bleeding.
How to Automotive
Thank you
Henry Lopez glad to help. Thank you for watching!!
Will it cause the motor to tap if it’s the sending unit
Tray -__- Random if the motor is making noise there’s a good chance that motor is running low on oil pressure and that’s a real problem
is there a screen inside?
I have a 2004 Silverado 5.3 and the oil pressure sensor doesn't work but I noticed that it doesn't have a oil pressure sensor filter....can I put one? or it doesn't need it?
Nope they started in 06
Is there supposed to be a screen/filter under this sensor?
I think only on the newer chevy's
06 and above
The sending unit on my truck shut down the injector pulse made the truck where it wouldn't start
i have gmc yukon 2008 oil pressur is 40 psi but not comes in the cylinder
what is cause
What about the 4.3L ?
I can't find the oil pressure sensor.
Do I need a special socket to do this repair?
It does require a oil pressure socket. But if you don’t have one just use the new sensor to match up with what you have in your collection. If anything fits you can use that. I believe a deep 1 1/2 socket will Work
I have a 2005 Chevy 2500 6.0 , does it have a screen under sending unit
Christopher Vienneau there is a screen on the inside of the pan on the pick up
Thank you
@@HowtoAutomotive Inside what pan?
Thank you 🙏 I think mine just when out it suddenly dropped to 0 came up to 40 then back down to 0 and stayed there. One more thing though when it dropped it began making a knocking sound.... Hope it's not the pump
sunshine happiness I would install in a mechanical gauge and see if there’s a true reading or not. If it’s knocking there’s possible that it is actually low on oil pressure.
Did it make a noise of the clicking noise Of the engine can I get a reply please ASAP
Ahmad Zada you need to put an external gauge on it and check to see if the pressure is really low. If so you have engine problems.
Why is there a filter in the box with my oil pressure sending unit?
what is the name of the blue plug that you are holding @1:14 been looking for the name of it for a while
Those are called harness plug, or oil pressure sensor harness plug if it's for the oil sensor, im fixing to make a video on how to change the oil pressure sensor on my truck this weekend for my youtube channel and I was reading the comments on this video so i figured I answer your question. This is the best video i seen so far for changing the oil pressure sensor, it's only my fifth video watching so far but it's still the best one I've seen.
It was the knock sensor wire that runs under the manifold
You know there screen under that sendor unit
On another video, the sensor was super long. Was that an older style?
Might have been the cam position sensor
