Wait till the Engine is cool. Lift the vacuum hose out of the way and reach behind and you will feel the wiring. Pull the plug. Use a 1 1/16 thin walled socket and a short extension. The sender will come out fairly easy. Make sure you replace the screen. I was able to do this easy without removing anything at all.
Just wanted to say thank you for youre video very informative and straight to the point people like you help the working class folks that can't afford a shop .keep up the good work there are so many people that rely on you in there time of need . Mine quit today at 3 am I had pulled over and removed the oil fill cap and verified oil being pumped up closed it up and drove to work and home before changing it took me about 25 30 minutes it is very difficult to get to but I did not unhook any lines just removed the plastic cover and used a small tbi unit hold down bolt off a 90s Chevy to get the screen out it was plugged solid .
After my mistake on spending 500 bucks on a new oil pump, my "professional mechanic" did not fix this problem. Later i saw this video, it was just a blessing to the headache i had on figuring out the problem. As mentioned in this video, it was the filter itself. Many props to this gentleman. Thanks
Good work. Always nice not having to pull the intake and losing half the bolts. This way you can just drop a few sockets down the back of the engine by the time you're done.
haha, I edited that part out.
Kinda funny Down Under talkin to Up Yonder.
Indeed
Thanks for showing the parts, and real-world removal tips. This will come in handy and my oil pressure seems to be slowly trending lower.
Hope this helped. Blessings
Excellent video, now just dreading doing the work 😂. Thanks Tim, for telling the truth on what a pain in the rear this job is.
That little filter should be included with the sensor! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! For your video. I’ve replaced two sensors and nearly pulled the oil pan before checking RUclips one last time. Luckily I found your video. My Yukon had very low to zero oil pressure on the gauge but didn’t knock or tick throughout the rpm range. I pulled the sensor and filter popped in a new filter, buttoned everything back up, hit the switch.... 50 psi! THANK YOU!
Thanks Tim! This video is very informative and helpful. You inspired me to attempt my own repair. I was able to change my OPS on my 2007 Yukon 212,000mi. Glad to see oil pressure again!
Mm
K
Was it running about 20 to 30 on your pressure guage before you changed it?
Did this with my 08 Suburban. Got my hand stuck, not much fun but gratifying when complete. Time for a bath.
Thanks for the video! I just fixed my oil pressure sensor a few minutes ago. You helped me save over $150.00!!
Awesome!
Enjoy watching each time, Thank you!!
Hey .. Thanks a lot, this tip saved me some time; always looking for these kind of videos. And I certainly appreciate your simple and to the point demeanor, the explanations and directions are spot on.
Thanks again...
Thanks. Super glad it was helpful. You take care!
Thank you for your help. This quick fix made my day, was able to fix the problem in about and hour. Please keep up the videos
Thank you. Super glad this helped. Blessings
Great video! I just did this on my 2007 GMC Sierra and it’s a lot better than pulling the intake. I also found out that using a wall anchor and screw for picture hanging is also a good way to pull the screen filter. Just put the anchor in the hole after removing the sending unit and finger tighten the screw and remove. It came out quite easy. Thanks!
Great video, thank you for doing this! Informative and saved me a lot of work, as I did not have to pull the intake manifold as the manual says.
Great! Glad it helped. Blessings!
Just did the same thing you did in the video and it’s working fine now!! Thanks for the tip 🤙🏼🤙🏼
I just had mine replaced....twice!
Remember to REPLACE THE SCREEN FILTER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SENSOR! Some mechanics will say it doesn't have one just so they don't have to pull it out because it's a pain in the but to remove!! Nevertheless it is there!! Great video!!
Thank you so much for this video, I fixed my self and sage 300$ in repairs
Thanks you made that issue clear enough for DYI...
Great information that will save me some time and money. Thank you for your work!
I have a 04 envoy xl. on vacation far from home where I do my own maintenance. the pressure went from normal to 0 parked at Walmart. never had this happen before. it would be a long tow but thanks for this video.
FYI. I did this with success on a 2010 suburban.
Really appreciate your video! I've watched so many I'm a bit depressed. I have the sensor and the screen and need to just do it. At 70 years old I don't bend in places I used to but am willing to try again. Used to make a living as a mechanic but they make vehicles too complex these days. Anyway, thanks for your video which is very straightforward and calming! Moreso, thanks for your patient encouragement! Be safe...Tom
Thanks nice way of explaining definitely how to check that it is the sensor and not the gauge
Thanks made life a lot easier for me. My gm dealer wants 2500 dollars to fix it.
Great information Tim. I have a 2003 Tahoe 5.3 eng with 91000 mi and have not had any major issues with it yet!
Hope it keeps on providing trouble free service for you. They are a solid vehicle for sure. Take care
Change your oil every 3,000 miles because the greatest with 5.3 is people not changing the oil like they should and lifter start tapping because the oil pathways get clogged with sludge.
Thanks for the great information! I'll probably be changing mine out in a few days when I can get some time!
Awesome. Worked just like you described! Thank you much
Nice video Tim! Yea 129 psi with the engine off I'll play Las Vegas odds it's electrical...call me crazy! Keep the videos coming!
Pretty good odds on that one buddy. If I wasn't making a video I would have replaced the sensor and filter without even looking at the scanner. Pretty common issue and the engine wasn't knocking so it was a good bet. Thanks for dropping in.
Another great tip. Something I've noticed that really contributes to this, at least in my experience, going to long on the oil changes. have noticed this a lot when people run synthetic oil, they go way to long, the oil gets to thin and dirty and it plugs up those screens and the sensor. But something else I've noticed, on the engine with the active fuel management that have the oil consumption problems seem to be worse for this.
kenman1717 plugged screen=burnt out engine.
Tom OConnor have seen that too.
Totally agree. This guy keeps the oil super clean and it apoears to be strictly on the electrical side. 125K is actually a lot of miles up here.
warriorpluto if you have good oil pressure, not using oil, no noise and do your oil changes when you should, I wouldn't worry to much. and something to keep in mind, warm your truck up for about 10 mins or so before draining the oil on an oil change it really helps cut down on sludge build up. have pulled engines apart with 300000kms on them and the lifter valley had over an inch of hard caked on sludge and it was do to many cold oil changes.
Most places like walmart, jiffy lube and others wait for the oil to cool down for an hour before they change the oil.
Thank you this helped
FYI look out for plastic weather seal on connector for oil pressure sensor.
When I removed connector from bad sensor, seal fell off connector.
After new sensor was installed and connector reconnected, seal was discovered under truck!
Thanks for the tip!!
Great Video Tips! Thanks Tim.
Thank you Thank you thank you. Thanks. Ill let you get back to bay watch
I have an Escalade, which is GM but it has a bunch of random readings. It goes from no oil pressure, which says
- - - PSI, to 190+, then down to 0 and when it does that I’ll get the low oil pressure (turn off engine) warning and dinging sound. I haven’t tried the to replace the sensor or screen yet, but I’m also getting the same codes and will be replacing it ASAP. Thanks for the video!
excellent video. my question would be IF this conditions could trigger dtc1815 causing the transmission to fail when shifting as if in limp mode ?? any input greatly appreciated
good video you are easy to follow and understand
I like it when you include other years that apply. I have an 05 Chevy (although it's a diesel) so I'll keep an eye on this for sure. How's your 460 engine doing?
460 is on the back burner for now. Shop is very busy. Now I can make money to dump into that 460 money pit.
New to your channel but want to say dang fine work! 👍
welcome! And thanks for the positive feedback. Take care

Nice fix without any collateral damage.Helpful comments below from the viewers.
Some pretty smart viewers. I sure learn a lot here. Thanks for dropping by.
m looking at 05 Yukon with this problem, I will go for it . It's very reasonable
Time saving tips are golden, thanks for sharing!
It will save you a couple hours but can't say it's super easy to access but if a fat guy like me can do it you can do it. Hehe
Hey that guy looks like he could be your twin.
I think he is just an imitator.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Or was it flactutance?
Anyway just expelling on your comments and I thought I'd add that in passing.
What a relief.
Thanks for the video, helped me 100%
A real time saver, thanks.
Thanks, hope the info comes in handy for you.
Subscribed thank you so much for your videos
WOW!! This could be HUGE! I have watched my engine oil slowly drop over several years to maybe 30 LBS while hot and driving, and 20LBS at idle with 300K on engine however, no noise and engine runs great! it is a 2006 LQ9. If it is that screen I will be downright giddy! All highway miles and regular oil changes with Amsoil. THANKS!!
Hope it is. Throw the screen away.
@@ThecardoctorTV Appreciate that however, i pulled the sender and there is NO screen! There is what looks like a metal tube up to the base of the sender (female side) threads, with a smaller hole at the bottom, very strange. So much for HOPE.
@@davebarron5939 I believe the screen is there to protect the solenoids in the AFM "VLOM". I don't think your 2006 should have that system, you lucky devil.
Very nice video and very informative! Thank you for taking the time to make it!
hey thx a million for that info...boy was freaking out
thanks so much man saved me a lot of money and time!
Glad it helped!
thank you i find the answer to my problem
Well done, professional and complete video
thank you.
nice vid. you deserve 200,000 subs, not 22000. you exaplain very wel. greetings from mexico.
Thank you, I agree on the 200,000 number haha
Great tip once again Tim. Thanks for the quick tip. Always helpful
Thank you. Appreciate the support and encouragement from down south.
Everybody's south of you, cept maybe Santa.

You doing very good job 👍👍👍👍
Nice video 👌👌👌👌👌
You very good teaching good teacher 🤠
Thank you so much I watching each All video 😊
This is Rana Hamayun from new York long island
Thank you so much
VERY GOOD VIDEO...THOROUGH TESTING!..THANKYOU
Thanks a lot!
I like that signal circuit integrity check nice I wonder what a bouncing Guage means bad power or ground or open short of some kind
I agree a good tip, getting it jumped from under the hood is tough, or maybe I need better jumpers/test wires. I know my plug(the plug on the vehicle side is not 100% intact)
Great video. Thank you. If you don’t replace what could possibly go wrong other than not being able to visibly read your gauge. ?If we keep up with oil changes etc. ?
I'd get a vehicle towed if it had this problem because if the warning is real then your engine can be destroyed within seconds after getting the warning. Unless you have the tools to diagnose or fix it right then and there, but definitely don't drive it and tempt fate. Very expensive gamble.
Bull scrap Ben drive my 91 chev for years no oil pressure
Do you happen to have a part number for the hard plastic hose that goes into the purge canister? Basically just need the clip for that hose.
Thanks, Tim for this great info. But what about a 2013 GMC Serria we did the sensor and filter change but the pressure came up for a second then went back to 0 pressure what can i look for now ????
Is the sensor in the same location for a 4.3 ...thanks for the video .. subscribed🤠👍
Good job Tim !
Thanks buddy
Excellent description
Tim, great video! Is it absolutely necessary to put the filter back in? The first gen Chevy's don't have them and this is the second OPS I've installed on my '08 GMC Yukon Denali in 2 years. Seems like the filter could be causing more problems than it helps.
You might be right but I have not tried it.
Wow! Thank you!
Awesome video! Keep it up
Thank you kind sir
Dont use ac delco oil filters. The oil pressure in my z71 dropped out and I thought I had a real issue, just needed an oil change. I switched to mobile 1 filter and it had been awesome. 10 bucks but better than ac delco.
good day sir, from the philippines. i would like to know if there is a problem with my oil sensor if it slightly fluctuates during idle? should i worry about it?
No chevrolet is gonna fluctuate as the oil pressure changes I wouldn't worry about it
My question for Mr Tim is, is it ok to drive it with a bad oil pressure sensor? I'm 200 miles out in the middle of no where on a rig, will it hurt the engine ? I got a 2010 Yukon Denali with a 6.2. Thank you.
thanks for the tip
My pleasure. It was a quick fix and the customer is happy!
Besides the check engine light, what are symptoms noticed in car?
hey how you doing thank you for the great video. my oil has low pressure for some reason after I change the oil. I got the oil pressure sensor changed about five months ago but didn't know anything about a filter or a screen. I went to the park place and they can't seem to find the screen do you know the correct name for it. Thank you for your time
Call the dealer. They will know. Its called the oil pressure sensor screen.
I had same problem. Changed oil pressure switch with no fix. Added STP oil treatment and problem went away. Apparently 5W-30 is too thin. You need a thicker oil if you have high mileage in your vehicle.
You did not mention the issues the 5.3 has with the oil pump pickup tube o-ring.. where pressure starts normal and as it gets warmer it continuously declines to zero or almost zero... I have found this as a professional in shop mechanic to be more common than anything when it comes to abnormally low oil pressure readings..
The other thing that seems to go on these when they show no pressure and has no pressure is the oil pump relief valve sticks or the O ring that connects to the oil pump to the pickup tube splits.
Good call. I should have mentioned that. I kinda glossed over actual low oil pressure issues.
I dunno what the heck GM did but alot of those LS engines have the sudden loss of oil pressure. Its good just the sender fixed it. Those are cheap these days too they used to last forever
Mine just did loose alot of psi the other day while riding thing was it happened about 300 miles after I did a oil change (new to me vehicle so It was the first change that i have done to it) but out of nowhere it now idles at about 10psi and right about 20 when cruising before it sat right at 40 when riding and about 30 when idle, but only when the motor becomes hot the pressure drops, any ideas , I put 10 40 when I changed the oil, and just did another change yesterday to 20 50 and still when hot loses pressure any idea's?
@@sexdrugsrocknroll420 what did you find out? Ive replaced the sensor and screen in mine. It sits around 20 at idle and still throws the code
@@TDIETZ22 it's most likely the crankshaft bearings going out is what I've narrowed it down to
this video also works for the 2007 hummer h2 6.0 liter, the only other thing to do is there is another electrical connector right beside the oil pressure switch on the passenger side, i had to disconnect that as well in order for the socket to fit on the oil pressure switch, otherwise it wouldnt fit.
Excellent. Thanks for the additional feedback.
Very helpful thanks you
Thanks, great info
This looks like a great option! However, I also got a doc sensor low voltage reading so I'm going to have to remove the intake manifold anyway so I might as well kill two birds with one stone. And while I'm in there I might as well change out the gasket so I guess it's three birds. Do you have a recommendation for a way to clean the mating surface area, and how to prevent debris from getting into the valve chamber? Sorry, English is not my first language if this is kind of confusing or if I'm using the wrong terms
Awesome vid Tim. My 6.0 has the gauge bouncing around so I will look into this in the future. Is that a new scan tool ?
These guys have more scan tools than I have bottles of beer! LOL!
Rick Anderson I'm sure they know how to use them, I'd like to get one just to see if I could figure it out. Hahaha
STEVE ROB Me too Steve! Maybe some day soon. I'm lost as to the best available unit for a home owner that is a reasonable price.
Rick Anderson MATCO max me it's 900 bucks but does so much stuff it's honestly really good for a diyer its basically an android table with automotive capabilites. you pay $20 monthly each brand you need to work on (or $105 for every brand per month). you have full data list, output controls of many solenoids, key and key fob program abilities. even light dur diesel trucks. I'm not affiliated with MATCO but it's a great tool for the money
Rick Anderson Well i have the autoengunity and i hate it. i used it on my silverado up in a few weeks and it sucks. Im leaning towards the Chinese rig , ok their all chinese lol the autel . Going to see if i can get it on that black friday coming up or wait for someone to send me one to review .HAHA
So I have that issue but I've had the sensor&filter replaced twice. Could a oil pump or o ring on the oil pick up tube cause the same issue
The Oil Pressure Low Message
Is a GM defect on the oil pump pressure relieve valve
plunger that gets stucked.
They should make a RECALL of all vehicles that have this
problem, It is very costly to replace the oil pump for something so small and
simple.
Envoys, Bravadas, Trailblazers and a lot of other vehicles.
There should be a Class Action against GM for this.
The problem is that when the valve is defective the computer
incorrectly senses Low Pressure. That’s why when you step on the gas, the low
pressure message disappears!
In other words…is just a momentarily lie from the valve that
makes the computer think that It has no oil and your car stalls trying to
protect itself.
This is how I solve it “momentarily” after I did all this…
Changed the oil sensor.
Flush the engine with Kerosene
Replaced the engine pickup tube.
Clean the throttle body (was dirty)
After all that, I was about to give up and sell my Envoy, but
I finally found a video where it was explaining the oil pressure relieve valve
defect
What I did, was to change my engine oil to 40W and use LUCAS
oil treatment And Voila! The engine oil pressure went up and the low
pressure message has disappeared. (up to now..knock on wood).
I wish you all luck.

My Sierra 4.7L lifters start ticking when the truck is idling. But once I drive it around like normal the ticking goes away. Could that have something to do with oil pressure?
What should the oil pressure be on a 5.3 on a mechanical gauge?
P.S.what should it be reading for psi on that 5.7 liter. Only code that comes up is the sensor on on bank 2 I believe.
Started truck yesterday and guage was at ZERO and got the low oil sensor message on the dash. But engine also started with a light knock also. I ran it over 10 seconds and turned it off. I have a 2008 Avalanche with 41,000 miles on it... never had any issue. My guage appears to be working fine but am not getting actual oil pressure. Any ideas? I have it with a mechanic but he has not pulled any codes yet... he started it and turned it off immediately... oil pump? Hard to believe I could cause damage to the engine in just 10-15 seconds of running it w/ no engine on top half... but not sure.
I have a 2004 GMC Envoy XL SLT 5.3L v8
The oil pressure low/stop engine lights comes on. I've had a trouble shooting scan. When sitting idle it's holding 14 pounds of pressure. at 4000 RPM's its holding 55-60 pounds of pressure. There's no oil leaks, it's current on oil changes (oil filter does get hot ), and the oil pan gasket seal was replaced. Whenever I stop at traffic light or stop sign the pressure drops and the oil pressure low stop engine light comes on. I recently added a qt of Lucas stop leak sealer in and it held pressure for about a 2 weeks and It's now starting to drop oil pressure again. It usually starts to drop pressure once its about a qt low on oil. What can I do to solve this issue?
great video but i have a request; i have a 2004 silverado with an 8.1 liter engine (just bought it) and i cannot find any videos or guides on changing the oil sending unit.
Ill keep my eyes open for one of those. I haven't run into that yet.
They should make a relocate kit. Maybe thread a high pressure hose in the back and locate the sensor on the firewall.
I understand they do for the corvette
So I bought a 2003 Cadillac Escalade and it has a traction control disable light and also it has an ABS light come on the petals kind of soft. where should start looking? I kinda want to save money and do it myself.
Hey Tim, great video! Before I go ordering some tools, do you have to disconnect the fuel line? Can I disconnect it with any ordinary tools? 2008 Silverado here. Thanks!
I did mine without disconnecting the fuel line. But if you go that route you will need a hose disconnect kit.
I just replaced my sensor and screen. Drove a mile down the road and the low oil pressure shut off engine error occurred again. Any thoughts?
Question... I got my transmission rebuilt.. Got it put back in and then I started my truck (2008 chevy Silverado) drove down road and there was no oil pressure at all. Replaces the screen and sensor.. Still nothing. Can the gauge be bad?
Shouldn't the oil pan light come on the never seen it I've been at least 2 qts low ive been low before
i have a 96 gmc diesel 6.5 & all Guages show low any hepl i'll appreciate it
So I jumped the grey with the tan/black wire and it still reads 0. In fact I get 5 volts from the power and the other 2 read ground? Any idea where to go from there?
Good video
Thanks man
Mine went from normal to zero overnight. Changed both filter and sensor but nothings changed. Still a daily driver for over a year and drives fine. Any ideas? Perhaps the other end of the sensor. Any idea where it connects to?
I have the low oil pressure issue with my 2011 Police Tahoe, even with a new sensor and screen. Starting to fear the worst, and I just got this truck a couple days ago. Bums me out cause I love it and it seems to run great otherwise.
Does it actually have low oil pressure or is it just reading low? remove the screen throw it away and only use an OE sensor for starters. Does it use any oil? Engine noise? Does it read low only when warm or all the time?
@@ThecardoctorTV I just had the sensor and screen replaced yesterday. Oil pressure is around 40 on the gauge when first started, drops to around 10 when warmed up and idling. The shop did not test the pressure manually though. They said the instrument cluster might be messed up, but I'm doubting that. I also have an error code for catalyst efficiency low on bank 2, but that's probably a given for 177k miles.
@@ThecardoctorTV Also I haven't noticed any engine noise, and the oil was just changed so I'm not sure if it burns any yet. I've only driven 30 or 40 miles since i got it a couple days ago.
I've been wrestling this problem for a year now and have replaced sensor, screen, and oil pump . And still having the problem . After a flush and fill runs great for about a month then bam right back at it :( any other advise
What about the same issue in a 2014 Tahoe at 25 below zero?
