  • Here is the most complete How to DIY Remove and Rebuild Hydro Brake Booster on my GMC 2005 Yukon Denali XL with a 6.0 - 1,600 Also for 2003 - 2006 GMC Yukon’s. I will show you how to remove disassemble rebuild Assemble and reinstall your hydro brake booster. It's not that complicated but there is a few parts to keep track of. The last quote I got was $900 to fix GM Hydroboost Brake Booster Leak Repair. I did some research and found out you can buy a rebuild kit for about $29. if you like working with your tools this can be a fun project. but if you don't know how to change a tire maybe this repair is out of your league. don't get me wrong if you have tenacity you'll get it done. you don't have to have a lot of complicated tools and if you watch this video a few times to develop your confidence I'm sure if you've had some basic skills in mechanics you can do this job. You'll save big money. Check out my other Yukon Repair Videos. So stay tuned for more videos.

    I did mine in the truck, two things that help.Getting the pins to fit in good.I used a broom handle and pushed slowly on the brake keep it pushed down.This pushed those two pins forward.Simple to just drop into place.Second person on the brake pedal best way.Oh release the brake slowly so you can make sure the pins and that grove they sit in stay in place.Second thing is getting the spring and gasket all put back together.That star at the end ,that your spring rod goes through.That is easy to remove,be careful just pry it out of it's grove.Do it from the back after you have separated the piston and spring.Dont try and take it before separating unit.Put the unit back together with out the spring or star.Makes putting it together much easier.Once everything back together slide the spring in from the back.Line the spring rod up and push on the star.I use a socket on a extension.Push on the star until it sits in it's retaining grove.Doesnt take much effort to push it in.

    • @notsofast2325
      @notsofast2325  3 года назад +1

      The power steering pump and brake system is tied together as you may know. As you press on the brake your creating pressure within the unit, if there is lack of pressure because of the leak yes your system will not function properly and your brake system and your stability will try to overcompensate it. I'm not a professional by any mean. But i can tell you this ,if it is leaking dont drive it , especially if your towing something. The fix is a cheap fix. Yes it takes time and yes you'll be on your back . But once your done you save $500 to $950 in repairs, and a sense of satisfaction that you were able to do this. Good Luck

      there are people that say you can. but remember there is a spring and clips in there and will shoot out. and if you loose them , you cant buy them , you have to buy the whole unit. so i rather work on the bench , So its up to you..

    Wow! Thanks. newbie here Learning mechanics. Question why did you take the whole hydro booster off the firewall if all you needed was to change the gaskets. Why not leave the entire hydro booster connected to the firewall and just remove the ebolts and separate the Hydro booster while it’s still connected to the firewall. Isn’t that more efficient on time. Is that possible?

      Thank you, So typically what I do is Pull the bad Part get a new one and install it. But when I got to the part store I found out what it cost they're expensive. even on eBay an Amazon they cost a lot. I don't know about you but I love my money. So I asked around if these can be rebuilt no one could tell me if they sold a rebuild kit and no one knew how to rebuild one. further than just outright buying one. so I did some research and found they rebuild kit. then I went on RUclips to see if I can find someone that has rebuilt one before. I did find some but they were poorly done so I decided to make a RUclips video on this subject. if I known what I know now I probably would have attempted 2 remove only the what part like you suggested. But for me it was too late plus I didn't know what it took to rebuild one. You can try and let us know how it turned out. I hope I don't have to do this again it was kind of a pain but doable. I kept my eye on the prize cuz I knew I would be saving big money if I did it myself.

      @@notsofast2325 hey man thanks for the response. I value my money too. They are charging me $800. I rather use that money to buy tools and fix it myself. I have basic tools at the moment and rather use that money to upgrade my tools and fix it myself. Thanks for including the tip in the video to turn on the vehicle and turn left and right. That will allow me to know if it’s a gasket issue or hose. Great tip!

    I’m curious. Why can’t it remain bolted to the firewall? Then you don’t have to deal with all the other BS. I’m asking because I’m about to try it once I get my new gaskets….

    • @notsofast2325
      @notsofast2325  2 года назад +2

      You can if you want to. For me I wanted to inspect the back part of the booster. Plus for me it was easy to pull the back part out. If you watch the video you can see there are springs and the figure 8 gasket, internal parts that have to go in a certain way. If you can do this with it bolted on, more power to you go for it. Good luck. Thank for stopping by.

      You can ,be super careful taking it apart.There is a small check valve that will shoot out in pieces if any pressure is left in the unit.Getting the inner seal in place with out pinching it going back together can be difficult.First attempt leaked from that seal getting pinched.

    Great video. Just wanted to put my input in since I have watched several of these videos on the tube.
    I notice that everyone breaks the E bolts loose AFTER they Remove the Hydro Boost from the fire wall.
    Wouldn't it be easier to crack the 5 E bolts loose B4 you remove it from the fire wall. Just wondering.
    Also you mentioned to put lube the figure 8 gasket with brake fluid. I think it needs to be lubed with P. Steering fluid.

    • @notsofast2325
      @notsofast2325  3 года назад +3

      Yes your right. P. Steering fluid.Thanks for the input. There was another guy that said the same thing. If you can connect the yoke,. And don't loose the spring and clip, ( because you won't be able to find a replacement ) then go for it. I myself have never took one apart. so i wanted the whole part in front of me, so i can see want i was dealing with.
