Hi, I'm Joe, thanks for joining in on my Hot Rod Adventure! As my Dad always says "It's the journey, not the destination;" the older I get the more I realize how true that is. Come along and join me as I navigate different journeys in the world of Hot Rodding. Better yet, embark on a journey of your own! Make some videos, make some memories. Let's build this community!
I'm just a dude in his garage living the American dream. Most of my videos document how I build hot rods and work on other automotive projects like my old CJ-5 and occasionally my wife's SUV, but some branch out to capture the adventures I can find chasing the hot rod dream and making memories with my family.

Willys Jeep CJ5: Can I put a 4.3L Chevy In It? On the Cheap? Sort Out the Flywheel & Clutch Ep145
In this episode I finally dive headfirst into the Jeep engine swap project. I have rebuilt a Chevy 4.3L V6 (see my previous videos on that) and now try to mate it to a mystery bellhousing and OE T-90/T-18 transmission and transfer case. There isn't a book written on this project, so I had to use a lot of trial and error to figure out the parts needed for this to work.

Timing Gear Alignment and Install: 4.3L V6, SBC or BBC! Bad Hombre Garage Episode 142
Просмотров 7363 месяца назад
In this episode I install the timing gears and chain on my Chevy 4.3L V6 engine build project. This process is the same for this engine as it is on any Small block or Big block Chevy engine. Now, this isn't as precise as "degreeing" in the cam (using a degree wheel and adjustable timing gear to set the exact timing specifications), but for a stock build it'll get it in correctly. Set Up a 3 Wire Alternator! Quick and Easy Way to Make it Work On Any Car!

In this episode I go over how I wire up a standard, GM, 3 wire alternator. I hooked it up in my hot rod and then I had a run-on issue, where the car would not shut off when the key was off. Willys Jeep CJ5 Custom Roof Rack! Easy Do it Yourself At Home!

Check out this custom, easy to make roof rack that I whipped up for the old Jeep. This roof rack is built out of 1/2" conduit (EMT) that I picked up from the local big box store. It welds easy with the Hobart MIG welder (just make sure you're outside) and bends into shape without too many issues. It held up great on the first outing, though I didn't challenge it with much weight (yet). What do ...

Custom Full Exhaust For Your Hot Rod All Done At Home In Your Garage. Whisper Mode: Engage!
I knew you wouldn't have too much trouble. My father swapped in a 283 into a Willys CJ5 in 1960 after he had blown up 2 original motors under warranty. He liked to drive fast. He put larger tires on the front and left it in 4wd high most of the time. He was working for a coal company and most of the eastern KY roads were not paved. He really surprised the town gear heads when the light turned green. Too bad that Willys built them out of rust, I would still have it.
Yes Sir! I love those old school stories. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Hell yeah!! Can't wait to see the 4.3 in action
Thanks! It rips! As soon as I can get more videos edited, you'll see how it turned out.
Troubleshooting is such an important skill
Yep!
It's a Chrysler that's the problem
Haha!
Amazing
Thanks!
That's pretty good you don't see that nowadays kids getting involved in automobile mechanics some can't even check the oil, they need to bring small engine repair, automotive repair, wood shop, electronics, welding, and maybe some fiberglass and plastics back in the school system as an elective in high school, I had all those back in the day but that was like in the 70s things sure have changed good luck to these kids nowadays, this young man's learning something today😊🧑🔧🔧🧰🪛
I agree! My kids are all into the cars, it is a wonderful thing.
@@BadHombreGarage right on
Real mechanics are a lost trade, nowadays they're just parts changers, what state is your garage in I might need a good mechanic I'm getting too old
@@davidschultz8577 Ha! Sometimes I feel too old when I have to lay on that cold concrete floor. I'm in Colorado.
Yeah b h I can agree with you on that cold concrete especially in Colorado, I live in this wonderful messed up State of California which is totally screwed up best of luck with your mechanics and have a good holiday they need to make heated creepers nowadays that might be something to think about have a good one Dave
i was hoping my dad giving me this kind of parenting back then.
I’m blessed that my Dad did! Hopefully you can turn that around and be the Dad you want.
I love the way kids look when they learn something new. Teachers have the best job in the world. If I was filthy rich I would just teach for free. Kids are the most valuable resource on earth. We need to invest in them no matter what.
Yes! Thanks for watching.
Very nice welding job. My 1977 cj5 came with steel metal top(here in Venezuela). I am planning to buy a Mig soldering machine and then to repair a few body things. Thanks you for this video. It helps a lot.
Thanks! Have fun with your project. I'm excited to see I have a viewer in Venezuela!
Nice video but all mechanics know that they dont need to see with their eyes when they can see with their hands. So my point being, dont but this stupid ass camera because its not needed. Its a 20 minute job. If ot was a yukon or a tahoe it would be harder. Still no reason for the camera
Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch the video! This video isn’t aimed at experienced mechanics, nor am I one myself, so I’ll hold out hope that at least a few people find it as useful as I did.
Where are you guys from? I go to grand junction alot. I live in rifle CO. Wish more guys around here were into hot rods...
I live over near C Springs, my Dad is on the West Slope in the North Fork Valley.
How do you drive the vehicle down to get the vin inspection if there’s no plates on it. Won’t the state police give you a ticket for driving with no plates.
They certainly could. I trailered my vehicles, though you can easily get a temp permit for the vehicle from the DMV to legally drive it to the inspection. Or, just call the office that will do the inspection and get their advice.
Good video, what's the part # on that steering column switch? Thank you
Shoot, I’m not sure. I guarantee you that if you call Speedway’s tech line they can tell you exactly what you need.
Thanks for showing me what I,ve boon thinking about trying. ck,wisc.
Go for it! Let us know how it goes.
Can you use an adjustable led 3 prong? I have model A led tails
I'm honestly not sure... A guy could try it and see how it works! If you do, please let us know how it goes.
Great Video !! ...Thanks so much !...I just installed a very similar Switch to my 1929 Model A Pickup ...The instructions that came with the switch were a joke ! ...I followed your instructions and it worked out Great !
Great! I’m glad this helped! This is exactly why I made this video.
Im about 100 miles in on my tci th350 with a sbc350 and already dropping tranny fluid in a Shelby Cobra kit car (put on a 73 vette chassis and power plant). Going to check this one, i did have to swap out the B&M rachet shifter to the quicksilver shifter.
Sounds like a cool project! Yes, unfortunately these TH350s are known to leak. This helps though; good luck!
Manufacturer shud have arrows pointing to star nuts w/word "bulb" or 'lights". O well. That's how they make their money grabs
Gotcha, thanks!
Did you use the original frame.
Yes, boxed it in of course.
bolt tier changer to cement like it is ment to do
Thanks for watching! I’m certain that wouldn’t make a difference.
Great video and good explaining
Thanks for watching!
Question, i finished following the directions you laid out. I’m curious what did you do with that leftover turn flasher wire off the fuse block?
I think I just rolled it up and zip tied it out of the way, like I did a few other circuits I didn't use.
@ Thank you so much for putting this up. It’s been such a great help for me. If you’re ever in Arizona, I’m buying you breakfast. ✌️😄
@@rocksaltmetalworks6350awesome! What part of AZ? I grew up in Bagdad.

Hey, it works!

Glad to hear that!
Dodge minivan roof works great on model a sedan. My husband bought a 31 model a slant windshield that had this top welded in works great
I’ll have to check that out!
Why didnt you just order a tank from the company called "tanks" they have a tank that will fit where you put your tank. Also a 48 to 52 ford truck tank will fit in the back of a model a sedan
Ahh man, I guess I wish I'd known about that! Do you have a link you can share here?
Next time put a dab of grease on inside edge of keepers , that helps them stick to valve stem while letting up on the remover!
Good trick, thanks!
😊
Thanks!
The duckbill mod. for this tire changer makes things easy. It is everywhere on U-Tube.
I’ll have to check that out, thanks!
Awesome Sir
Thanks for watching!
Happy to see I’m not the only one running a kill switch on the positive. Have a dual battery Cummins crewcab. I only need to cut power from starter positive to dash and ignition as a theft device and safety. I just don’t trust old fuse boxes and wiring to leave them hot unattended and didn’t want to add a switch on my 2/0 cable battery setup. I know many say a kill switch should only be put on negative, that wouldn’t work for me unless I put four kill switches. Batteries still need to be grounded to the truck body, not only the engine block according to 12 valve Cummins dual battery wiring diagrams. On my setup I think a kill switch is ok since I won’t be running any cranking amps through it.
If it works, it works!
Hilarious, it took me much research 6 months ago when I finally figured this wiring out for my Yankee Turnflex switch. to come across this now makes me chuckle as cripes I could have used this then! Getting ready to do another vintage intstall of a vintage switch so this is perfect timing to remind me of what I found out then. Thanks much!
I'm glad you finally found this!
Yeah I think my 1984 c10 is leaking from the same spot been stressing out cause I’m not to mechanically inclined but that don’t seem to bad to fix’s wish me luck
Good luck! How did it go? I've been fighting leaks on this TH350... like it seems I do on all of them.
the Vortec 4,3 was one of the Best Engines ever Built b Y chevy Gm!!thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching. I'm really enjoying this little engine in my old CJ5.
Thank you sir, you definitely help me out and save me from taking back another one.
Awesome! This is why I posted this video- to save others from some pain. Thanks for watching.
That is why I love american-made vehicles Chevy and Ford
Thank you for sharing 👍 What are your thoughts on the Chevy v6 with the balance shaft. Which one is better ? with or without balance the balance shafts ?
I'm not sure, to be honest. I've never rebuild one with the balance shaft, so I can't compare. I do know that from what I hear from friends and see online, there does not seem to be much of a difference.
@@BadHombreGarage Okay 👍👌
so i have a dumb question, if i have notarized bill of sale would it make this process much easier?
Yes! Or at least it did at the time of making this video. You'll want to doublecheck the current guidance, but Yes! having that notarized bill of sale could save you having to get a bond.
ok i had to splice the wire off of the brake switch because i have a third light. however all lights are working except for the signal indicator lights
That is a good way to do it. I'm not sure why the indicator lights wouldn't work now though. Did you figure it out?
@@BadHombreGarage not yet. they were working before i tucked everything up under the dash.Might possibly be a bad flasher the bulb is ok.
Great videos! It's helping me wire my T-bucket right now. One question I had was what did you use for your instrument panel lights? Unless I'm blind, I don't see it in the harness even though it shows wire #62 in the instructions on the gauge diagram. I'm assuming that they could be wired in with the running lights.
Glad it helped! I am going off memory here, but I think there was a post on the headlight switch for dash lights. If not, I think you could just pull them off your running lights.
@BadHombreGarage I'm doing a headlight switch with built in brights and the instructions weren't the best. Fortunately Speedway Motors is 3 miles from my shop so I'll be sure to ask them when I go in tomorrow. Thanks for the reply. 🤟
@@huskerjeepright on, let us know what they say!
@BadHombreGarage after finding a good picture of the wiring diagram, there is a designated circuit to wire to specifically for dash lights. 👍
@@huskerjeepawesome, thanks!
You are an absolute life saver. I just bought a half finished drag car and I had the same issue (I didn’t install the cutoff switch.) my first day at the track with it is 3 days away so I will definitely be doing this tomorrow. THANK YOU 🙏🏻
Awesome, have fun at the track!
if i am connecting red turn signal wire to brake switch what happens to the brake wire. do i splice in
One side of that brake light switch is hot, the other side of the brake light switch goes to the red wire on the turn signal switch.

Nice! Thank you for serving, we all appreciate you. I hope you like the box, I really like mine.
I’m thinking to buy it today and it comes to $718 OTD with military discount
How'd you end up mounting the fuse panel?
I’d love to say I used some custom technique, but no- I just used zip ties.
What is the reason for bench bleeding lines? Are you supposed to do this before hooking brake lines back up?
I don’t bench bleed the lines, just the master cylinder. Do it whenever you have a new master cylinder, it gets all the air out before hooking up your lines.
Great video!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
