- We road tripped from Seattle to Texas for the holidays and during days 4-7 of the trip we spent time in Marfa and Big Bend National Park! We hiked some awesome trails at Big Bend, saw Texas beauty we didn’t know existed, went alien hunting, and enjoyed the charm of small town Marfa.

Marfa is where James Dean's last movie, "Giant" was filmed in 1955. It is one of my all-time favorite movies. The cast, including Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson, stayed at the Hotel Paisano in Marfa. It's a classic film that was hand-picked by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg for a 4K restoration back in 2022. I'm hoping that the movie will be released into theaters in two years for the 70th anniversary. It stands the test of time - one for the ages.

Planning our trip to Big Bend and had to check in with "Baby A+K" lol The Pre-Brisket days!
Never realized how lucky my wife and I were to have had our experience with the Marfa Lights. We were there around 2005 and saw so many lights we lost count! At times there were as many as five at once. A few regulars there did tell us it was an above-average night.
That is awesome!!! We are dying to get back to this area, it's just so far from Austin, so we will have to make another trip and maybe we will get lucky!
Kathryn, it's wild how similar you and Jen are. Jen moved from New York to Florida when she was 8 too!

Just found you on you tube. Was Looking for Big Bend and Marfa videos for our upcoming trip. We have been to Marfa and Big Bend many times. Love the area. The first time we went to see the Marfa lights we didn't see them either. The next time there was a local there and they were showed us where to look. Seen them about 7 times. We also help newbies find them. love your video can't wait to watch the rest of your trip.
Wow cool! We will need you to come with us next time and show us! What are some spots you like in Big Bend and Marfa that we didn’t make it to? And unfortunately we had a big hard drive failure and lost most of the rest of this trip’s footage 😭 (California spots) so we will have to go back and film it again!

Marfa looked so quirky! We loved the tumbleweed rolling by at 5:30 ; it seemed like a very Texas thing to do.

You guys are really good. My wife and I went to Big Bend in April--stayed in Terlingua in one of those old trailers, climbed Emory Peak, and loved the feel of the place. We passed through Marfa but didn't stop--sorry. We didn't stop at the Prada place either. We did stop at Shafter just south of Marfa to eat lunch. You always mention Seattle; I didn't know you were from Texas. I spent 12 years in Texas (Wichita Falls and San Antonio) when I was in the Air Force. Thanks again for your great videos.
We really want to go back to this area! We are originally from Austin, lived in Seattle for 3 years before the van, and are now legally Texans (my parent’s address) as we travel, but know we will end up in the PNW again someday!

Stayed a night in Marfa last Christmas on my drive from ATX to Tucson. Cute town with yummy food and unique chill vibe. Didn't see the Martha lights either but the stars were ah-mazing!

The Marfa Lights are car lights on the highway from Presidio.

Marfa is super quirky and artsy! Many of those towns in West Texas are really worth the visit!

So, we just drove by the Prada store, got groceries at Porter’s, had coffee with your Mom and Dad, and are now heading to Big Bend National Park for a few days. Unfortunately, Food Shark was closed today. 😟😟😟
Y’all have a blast! Too bad it was closed 😭 we noticed some spots having weird hours in Marfa.
alot about Marfa but never been. We'll have to check that out along with Big Bend. We were in Texas last February before the quarantine started and we never stopped to get Whataburger! So wish we had! Not sure if that or In N Out could beat my 5 Guys, though. ; )
I will probably be banned from Texas for saying this, but I like Shake Shack, In N Out, and Five Guys better than Whataburger 😅 BUT it is good! and a nostalgic Texas spot!
