I met Ren on Saturday. I just wanted to tell him that he’s a Prophet and he blows my mind. He was genuinely appreciative and asked me to sit with him. We spoke about this song and his visit to Angelsey and he had tears in his eyes whilst talking to me about it. I cry every time I hear this. I told him it’s beautiful and Joe would be proud. I’m more convinced now after meeting him that he’s an Angel sent from God 🙏🏾 He’s the most beautiful human with the most amazing soul and presence and his music, words and actions come directly from the heart and his kindness, pureness and morals are inspirational. I’m a 53 yr old man and have seen it all in music. Ren is an enigma. Cherish him. Be like Ren ☮️

I don't know how he mustered up the courage to play this to Joe's parents before he released it. Imagine the emotion the day he played that nevermind the emotion in this. This song should depress me after losing my brother to suicide but instead it has uplifted me and inspired me. Only genius that is Ren manages to do this.

Hey Knox, on the money again, lovely reaction. This song knits together the bond and struggles Ren continues to have from his closing lines of Suicide, with the positive messaging from Freckled Angels, the strength that gives him, with Joe always in his heart. The whole vibe of this with the piano accompaniment is beautiful.
Great reaction and analysis as usual, Knox. I didn’t he could play piano/keyboard like that. I am sure Joe’s parents treasured and appreciated this video.
From your interview Ren intellectually and logically knows there wasn’t anything he could have done that night but emotionally is another thing… the empty cup.
But notice there is a bottle of light (lights) to fill the empty cup.
The previous produced video was dark and filled with pain and frustration. This starts with that pain but continues with what Joe and all his actions has taught and given Ren. That bottle of light to fill the empty cup. Not only a crafted masterpiece but preformed extremely well with the help from Sam.

Great reaction. Heartbreaking and beautiful, yet uplifting too and he does it with such courage and vulnerability... When Ren said he was going to give us a live version of Suic!de I don't think anyone expected him to take the last verse and make a new song that he ended with the chorus from Freckled Angels. In between sounds like he took inspiration from Dominoes and Freckled Angels... if you haven't checked those out, you really should.
When I heard this performance a few days ago, I finally lost it. I don’t cry often. Literally years go by inbetween. I don’t know if somethings wrong with me and I’m emotionally numb or what. But this song broke me. It felt good to cry with you Ren. Thank you.

We just lost my daughter’s best friend to cancer at 22 yrs old. It was only 5 weeks from being diagnosed to the day she was gone. It’s crazy how much his music taps in to those emotions, too. I’m so sorry you had to live through this. Thank God Ren is here to help.

It’s not. He is just referencing the song. Like he mentioned Screech in Illest of Our Time. The start is the ending to Suicide and the ending is the chorus of Freckled Angels, but everything between that is new. A brilliant way of tying the songs together and inventing something entirely new. What a genius.

"The day you jumped my childhood jumped too" Man that hit me. I just felt his sorrow and remorse for his friend. Ren truly is one of a kind, because no matter how many times i rewatch his videos my emotions always become raw and fragile to the point of tears.

That acapella part he does at the end is actually the chorus for Freckled Angel it was from his debut album around 7 or 8 years ago Both are absolutely beautiful songs but this one right here I've never felt this way from any other song or music. There's no words to describe how creative and poetic Ren is
Knox, you are spot on at the end when you say this goes full circle. It starts with the end of the last song which is overtly linked to Joe's passing, and it ends with a piece of Freckled Angel, Rens first song dedicated to Joe written shortly after Joe's death. This song like there is some redemption and some closure for Ren, starting with the pure sadness and details of losing his friend and then ends with a beautiful and uplifting illustration of who joe was and what he has given Ren even in tragedy. This is art not just a song
This was so hard for me to watch. As someone who has attempted suicide, and who has lost the most important person to me, this was rough. I didn't know I could still feel this kinda emotion, till I heard this song. When Ren drops the piano and its just raw vocals is when I feel all the emotions flowing back to me. I can't help but, to recall those emotions.
He carries on the the story from his track called suicide. Proper emotional I’ve had very close friends take there life 😢it never heals you always torture yourself about not saving them or being there in time Ren is an inspiration to us all. Much love for the reaction Knox ❤

Everytime I have listened to this, it hits the same every single time! I lost my mom to Cancer in 2009, and the line that hits me the hardest is when he says, "Distance is my plaster cast"! I love how he took three of his previously published songs, all about similar topics, and combined them in a backwards order - newest first, then the middle one and oldest song last. Like he's taking a trip down memory lane of his grieving process...
We have all lost, and we all carry them with us.. I love how he leaves the raw emotions and breaking of his voice in the video… gives it truth and keeps it raw!!
To me this song follows the Kubler Ross stages of grief: denial, bargaining, anger depression, acceptance…

That’s the thing about Ren’s music. I’ve listened to “Hi, Ren” dozens, maybe up to 100 times, and I still get whole body goosebumps. I can hear this as many times and still feel the grief. I can’t hear the Tale of Jenny and Screech without that feeling of being gut-punched. It is so real, it never gets old. Every time I hear it, it feels new, even though I know what’s coming.
This was filmed in Calgary on Scotsman’s Hill, overlooking the Saddledome. I have watched fireworks from there many times. Such a beautiful tribute to his friend ❤️🩹
The truth is we have mass trauma in this world, we have all been exposed to so much suffering, whether it's our own or the suffering of others, starvation, war crimes, evil corporations, slavery... we have all lost our childhoods, and our children are losing their childhoods even faster. We all morn our lost childhoods... we long for hope, magic, miracles... maybe we should try to connect to helping each other without judgement. 😊❤ Love for all, hate for none...
My best friend died at the Calgary Foothills hospital in 2004 after a workplace accident in Banff (a resort mountain town 2 hours away in the Rockies). We moved out there the previous winter to be ski bums and mountain bike in the summers. I've never gotten over that sudden death and seeing Ren do this song with the backdrop of Calgary about a best friend who died just brought out every emotion that I've kept to myself for 20+ years and only let out once in while by myself when something seems to hit me a particular way. Thanks Ren and Knox Hill, you make this world that much better to live in. Cheers
