The video quality seems perfectly fine for a $200 drone -which everyone seems to want to point out. The content/story is more important to me over how good the video looks anyway. Very impressed with how well it locked on to the subject 👍
Took me a moment to work out why the Neo was going from side to side... then I realised what Von was up to. She's a keeper. (Although this drone might not be 🤣)
I’ve got the Hoverair Pro Max on order too. I’m looking forward to that coming in and getting it to follow me through a point of the bay that has epic scenery either side and is closed to cars. Some small hill climbs and some rapid decents should make for some fun!
The fact that it loses you and hovers then starts following again after regaining visual is the best feature. My mini 3 never did that and it lost track all the time. Starting all over again with the controller was quite annoying. I’ll probably get this just for that reason alone even tho the video is not so great
Did my virgin flight today. Very impressed with it. But important to remember what it is for. Simply B roll footage. Nothing more than that. It did struggle to keep up but failed safe. The erratic flying is a little disappointing. The video quality is basic. The settings very basic. But I could pull this out of my jersey and have it in the air within seconds. That is amazing!!! ❤
Hi Von, great 2cu out on the bike and hearing your comments. Great vid Shane. Being able to see the drone following the rider so closely was a lot of fun & educational. What do the magpies think of the drone? Does it keep them away? Will they attack it?
Your wife's top provided a very good colour contrast with her surroundings. For the next test, could you please try wearing a top that is close in colour to the surrounding? Perhaps something in green. Cheers, b.
1:00 Apparently camera is much better with sharpness reduced to -2. But it can only be done through a controller, not the Fly app. Dumb. Hopefully camera settings will be added to the app in the next update.
9:50 OMG that's scary!. what if it flew into the water or just into someone else My recommendation is that you always connect the app with the the manual control. you can adjust on the fly the height and distance for the follow. It's really ideal if you have your smartphone on your handlebars this drone will force the cyclists only to do a z2 ride.
From what I’ve seen, the Neo seems to follow very like the Hover X1 I’ve been using for the last year on gravel rides and other stuff. Yo yos a bit the same. Speed might be a little faster but not much. That’s the main issue I had the with Hover X1 - just a little slow - have to pedal too soft. I sold my X1 last weekend on eBay for $375 and ordered the Hover X1 Pro on Indiegogo with the Beacon. Won’t get the Neo as it has that same speed issue as the Neo. Fun but a bit too limited. The Hover X1 Pro and ProMax have that 42kph tracking speeds with burst up to 60kph to get into position. Higher bit rate video but I don’t know who needs the 8K video of the Pro Max. Still, it’s coming. The beacon seems to be an interesting solution (not essential) for those who want more robust tracking and control and want to use the built in mike to record audio without using a phone.
I've had two of these flip-over / confusion experiences like your fly-away as well during a run today. Looks like the drone hits a branch (which it doesn't). First time it just found me again and was fine, second time it drifted off to a nice brambly bush looking the other way. Didn't have my phone with me... luckily it didn't go very far, so I was fine, but that could've been very fun :P edit: apart from that, it did a pretty good job, I have to agree. will have see how it goes on the bike... edit2: should do a side by side comparison how the tracking is affected if you're not wearing a high contrast pink top :D
GPL's evil laugh with his missus getting swooped by birds lol. According to their website speeds are 6 m/s (Normal mode) 8 m/s (Sport mode)16 m/s (Manual mode. That's 21-57 km/h lol.
Thank you for the review! Just too bad it's not a bit faster, at 22 kph it's slower than the original Hover X1 which was really too slow to begin with. But for the price the DJI is hard to beat. I'm looking forward to your X1 pro review!
I watched DCRainmaker video on this and he had same results, around 22kph = 12/13mph which is too slow for cycling, especially if on road. Ok for a bit of fun but any more than easy peddling and not quick enough.
@@gplama Be good to see as you mention that can do 40kph = 25mph so fast enough for me! The Neo though is very affordable, think around £170 here in UK so if only a bit quicker be very tempting. Look forward to see your test of HoverAir. Looks cold over there, worse than here(!).
Maybe true, but everyone already knows the “solution” to that problem, it’s just not the solution they want (to buy the more expensive Avata 2) Nobody was expecting to spend only $200, and get the same exact value as the $500-$1000 drones
can you test this in a group ride to see if it follows only the tracked person. will it pick up a stranger and fly away? I have the same drone and vids on my channel showing the limitation of the drone, especially indoors.
A lot of people/drone enthusiasts seem to be expecting miracles out of a $200 drone designed to be operated primarily by content creators for quick shots without a remote control. If you want proper footage just go ahead and spend more money. What do you expect ? DJI targeted a specific market and the results are outstanding for $200 US. If you want high-end video and control options it’s gonna cost you at least $1000 US and up.
the "washed out" footage looks like what i'd expect from a "flat" or "log" colour profile, where contrast is intentionally reduced to give more colour grading flexibility in post. could that be the case here?
No, the Neo's camera output is just bad, likely upscaled low-res footage. Better wait for the Hover X1 Pro Max coming soon, that will do the same, but with much better 10bit 4k footage.
also wouldn't really make sense considering the audience. Can't expect a casual market to do colour grading during edits. More than likely just chuck it on their phone and social media. Even the hoverair X1 produces better results than this.
@@summarity fair enough. haven't been following the drone scene lately but the footage looks on par or better than my first-gen mavic pro (i guess that isn't saying much 😅). it's a very cute looking device though.

So much unbridled laughter in seeing Von swooped by the magpie 🤣
Cheers Shane, good to see. Would like to see it handling more complicated tracks such as mountain biking trails.
Thanks for showing it warts and all.

Nice video, could you try the tracking option where will follows you from the front? I wonder how well it does flying backwards?
it is really bad at front tracking unless you are walking at a slowish pace .

Yeah, no on device settings unfortunately, it would need one more button like the hover or some "double tap" action.

How does the drone drown out the sound of its rotors and motors? Does it (and others) have selective noise cancellation?
When using their app to record audio it’ll remove the drone noises.
