I've said this on a video on Skall's channel regarding this blade, but I'm gonna toss this out here as well. The design of the energy sword in the Halo lore comes from the fact that the two blades absolutely CANNOT touch one another. The way they are projected causes both blades to have opposing charges, meaning that if they come into contact then they instantly short out with an electrical explosion. Which is why they are a one-shot kill in the game and they have an energy limit. Every time you stab an opponent a circuit is completed between the two blades, causing said electrical explosion to go off inside the target and deplete the weapon's battery.
@@Naptosis It sounds more like he's referring to the handle shape not being made for human hands there because he's talking about it being hard to hold, not the blade shape.

I would like to add a small, ultimately inconsequential caveat to the lore dump of the energy sword, particularly the existence of steel bladed versions. Before the boost in technology that the Elites gained from joining the covenant, the energy sword was a physical weapon, not an energy based one. The steel versions existed as a proto-sword variant for centuries on Sanghelios before the adoption of the Type 1 energy variant, and Elite recruits still train with physical blades before being permitted to ever wield a true energy sword in combat.

Thinking about the energy side of it... that puts the weight further back into the handle. I mean, energy blades can't weigh much. I still don't understand how energy blades collide with things. The energy is what does the cutting... but that energy is in motion, or fluid. It's basically energy being somehow controlled into a shape. But the control can't be physical, since the energy has to be exposed to do the cutting. So if the energy fails to cut it, then the blades would fail to enter. It's like using an air knife... either it cuts, or it breaks form. And if you think jabbing your wrist with the metal was bad, imagine if that was energy that 'cuts better than metals'. I think the design would only make sense if the aliens' wrist was further back than a human... so the pivot point would not put the backward segments into their arm. I think you should remake the handle to be more ergonomic from a sword handlers perspective, and not from a display model design! Maybe even get a steel blade cut and made?! Cool video, I like swords. You have another subscriber.
When testing the grip did you try having the finger splitter go between the pinky and ring fingers instead of between the index and middle fingers? I feel as though that would align the blade better for thrusting and give you more power in the slash.

Fun fact : In the Animatrix style movie Halo Legends, there is a section called "The Duel" featuring the transition period of the Elites at the start of the Covenants. In it, you DO see steel swords of the same design... So you COULD absolutely make a full steel version of the weapon, and it would be lore accurate without the need for a "this is not energy" disclaimer ;7 Heck ! why not throw in the two-handed one wielded by the bad guy !?!

That weapon needs to spring steel. it does have a look. Just get rid of the points by the wrist. maybe put a rubber or hilt wrap around the lowest part of the blade by the hand? I would not want to extend my arm out far while using it.
14:07 you’re ignoring the fact that the hilt/handle is perpendicular to the blade. That’s a MAJOR oversight on your part. It’s simply impossible to maintain any lateral force on the blade when your only leverage is grip strength. Even a TINY bit of pressure against the flat of the blade, wether by your opponent or by yourself during a cut, will turn the blade, either out towards your elbow which is bad, or in towards your chest which is fatally bad. Perpendicular handled blades are a seweslide weapon. How you can ignore this is beyond me.
I always imagined that the blade on this sword would be near weightless because it was an energy sword and all the weight would be in the handle. I don't know how you would test that though!
After looking back at the original graphical effects for the swords in Halo:CE, I can't shake the suspicion that they were initially intended to function as singular broad blades.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in game/ animations you watch of elites using the energy sword, don't they use the meaty part of the blade for the killing blow chop? I think They effectively hammer fist the opponent except they're holding a blade there.

I think They effectively hammer fist the opponent except they're holding a blade there.
the question then remains... would you be willing to make an adjusted version to fix the design issues you mentioned and give it a retry?
Simple way to make it better. Add a stick to the handle and turn into a spear
Everyone is saying, "it's designed for a sanghili," but I think the more important part of the lore is that it's a energy weapon.
Just while I remember, which character is the boxed red and black DC figure behind your right shoulder on the shelf that looks like an Iron Man suit but can't be? Please let me know as it's been driving me nuts wanting to know since you started this channel! LOL, thank you!
