It's like if you took a reverse-edged sickle (like the reverse katana) with two blades inverted on the handle, which is around the same size as a sickle handle anyway.
This was a lie of fun to watch! I bet it was as much fun to watch and probably triply as terrifying to film. Tyranth did an excellent job on the Glaive. His original video was pretty neat. I like seeing the extra looks at some of his projects.
A glaive is a weapon for slicing far away people. Usually using a blade on a pole, but you can also just throw the blades for a throwing glaive. At least that's a reason the name could make sense, though I'm pretty sure someone just thought "throwing glaive" sounded cool (which I do agree with).
Perhaps something like "glaive chakram" since "throwing" got dropped and just "glaive" used for various fantasy chakrams including both fully round blades proper and "rounded" knives that don't complete an outer circle.

The great thing about that curved throwing blade is that the sharp part is on the inside of the curves. That way, it has a great chance of slicing your fingers off as you throw it, but no chance of cutting the thing you throw it at.
Man, what are the odds that Shad would just happen to find a hole in Boromir so that the throwing knife sticks in *backwards*? 10/10 money shot, nobody would believe it if y'all hadn't gotten it on camera.

Legend has it that the name 'Glaive' was a hang on from the days when these blades were launched from the end of a glaive for more distance and power etc, A trait discovered in battle when damaged glaives would lose their tips whilst being swung at opponents, this very quickly led to the development of the 'throwing glaives' we know today, these ones being simply a more concealed carry/EDC version, although they were mostly used to show off whilst feasting. ;)

Without Nate, it just doesn't feel like medieval Top Gear anymore 😭😭
The medieval fashion discussion at the start, I want to believe that's how all battles started back then. "Check out my new trousers" haha
Title typo? "This SHOULD NOT WORK they way it does! " ...the way it does?
Crazy.
Flute with these throwing knives where it went blade handle in instead of blade in
"they way it does" typo in the title card, Shad
I like it when a shadow University video turns out like this. Things that shouldn't work work extremely well. I love how baffling it is as a reaction when it when it does happen.
Can you do a video to see if Batman’s cape is useful in a fight
Cap or cape?
@@DH-xw6jpcape my mistake
@@Beymaster20247 oh, I wasn't sure.
Because testing his armoured cowl thing (which is what I thought you meant when you said cap) would have been a cool idea too.
@@DH-xw6jp both would work in a video but I’m more interested in the functionality of a cape. I know he uses it to glide, shield himself and others, and uses it to stun enemies. I just want to know how functional it can be against a single enemy or multiple.
@@Beymaster20247 I know capes were used in sword duels (there are mentions in manuscripts), but I'm not sure if even a ballistic cape would help against henchmen with guns.
Shad opens by proving the lightsaber hilt is all you need.
Is there a reason why a flail might have 2 or sometimes 3 heads in games and fantasy.
Those did exist, he explained it on the video when he discussed the double-ended flail from Catwoman...
From a more practical side, more points of impact.
From a story side, more intimidating.
The great thing about that curved throwing blade is that the sharp part is on the inside of the curves. That way, it has a great chance of slicing your fingers off as you throw it, but no chance of cutting the thing you throw it at.
Always great to see Anthony!
Seriously his enthusiasm is great. Glad he’s onboard.
Man, what are the odds that Shad would just happen to find a hole in Boromir so that the throwing knife sticks in *backwards*? 10/10 money shot, nobody would believe it if y'all hadn't gotten it on camera.
Tyranth to be fair in return, shads pauldrons are messing him up big time biomechanically. He should take one off next time. Although that makes me wonder what kind of pauldrons would a rouge wear? Or any other class who is going to be throwing things a lot?
Cosmetics don't wear armor.
9:44 just as Tyrenth goes to throw the blade you can hear a chirp. I think he's using V.A.T.S with a hidden Pip-Boy. Shad you should look into if he's cheating by not using his actual aiming skills and just relying on the hit percentage.
@1:34 Does it come in blue? 😂
RUclips seems to delay (based on their timestamp) the release of Shadiversity and The Shadlands vids, I sometimes miss them on my subscription page because they're not their when I scan that time point on my list, and then I just focus on the latest releases. Glad I manually searched today - great episode.
Shad Norris can kill you with either end of a throwing knife.
Shad and Tyranth arguing over who has larger bracers just gave me the vibe of two random off duty town guards.
Anthony is settling in well to the "Hammond" role.
love your guys dynamic
Guys having fun and sharing fun facts. It is what it is.
2 views in 1 minute, you fell off shad 🙄
Anthony seems like a funny guy. :)
Tyrinth is by far your most powerful acolyte and I believe the only one who could rise up to challenge your residency as monarch of the Shadlands.
So far Shad has always had the upped hand as reigning champion but Tyrinth grows more adept with each video.
Whispers ruminate amongst the peasant folk; Some say it’s only a matter of time until Tyrinth’s historical European martial arts prowess defies that of the Shadarch himself.
We can only wait with bated breath as the unstoppable wheel of circumstances rolls its way forward towards a most uncertain future.
A victory you say?
Begun these Powned wars have
Legend has it that the name 'Glaive' was a hang on from the days when these blades were launched from the end of a glaive for more distance and power etc, A trait discovered in battle when damaged glaives would lose their tips whilst being swung at opponents, this very quickly led to the development of the 'throwing glaives' we know today, these ones being simply a more concealed carry/EDC version, although they were mostly used to show off whilst feasting. ;)
I love your guy's brigandine armor. I would like to see you guys add additional pieces for testing like a curiass or half chest to fit over as well as your pauldrons and gauntles. Its such a great base for "half" or "piecemail" plate armor. Also the storm in the background of this video..... amazing vibe lol.
Shad: I put half of the stuff behind paywall so the video in YT is more consumable for average viewer
Also Shad: Insert two minute ad in the middle of the video
The trash talk off camera must be even more amazing
Ya know what the absolute best practice for throwing the “Blade” version. There’s a “Kong” dog toy that’s a combination tug of war toy and throwing toy. It took me a while to learn to throw it correctly, but now that I’ve learned I can throw it almost as far as a frisbee.
I kept saying, "Take off the damn armor!" over and over while watching this video. 😂 Blade wasn't wearing heavy armor that limited his movement, and the armor kept getting in the way of Shad's throws.
i love how clearly tyranth is better at this but shad is winning the mind game
🤩 ah, Krull... I loved that film. I must have watched it a million times when I was a child back in the '80s.
Tyranth is a volcano of rage and I'm here for it lol 😂
