I was at this show. Me and my wife. I had long been a fan of Neil Young but this was a relatively small venue and I had my chance to acutally get close to the stage. My wife and I sat on the ground with the rest of the crowd , as we sneak drank the rum we had smuggled in. neil came on stage after much waiting and it was magical. I remember him appearing in a chinese army baseball cap initially, singing all my old favorites. As the night wore on i suddenly realized I was separated from my wife as at the same time I found myself at the front of the crowd and fighting to get closer than two people back from the stage. I got about a foot from Neil actually slapping my hand between songs before the crowd surge forced me back. The show finally ended and Neil left the stage. Where was my wife ? Holly God in Heaven! I spent the rest of the night finding her , finding my little Toyota pickup and driving with one eye closed back across the Niagra River to North Western NY State ( may god and you all forgive me for that - was definitely different times . )All turned out good. We got finally found one another and our vehicle when only about 3 others were left in the gigantic parking lot and slowly and carefully navigated our way home . Will never forget the chance to get so close to neil.
Neil Young should make a version of this masterpiece lasting 24 hours. So I would not have to repeat it again and again. Thank you Christopher for letting us enjoy Neil at his very top !
Ive been digging into Neil's Catalog for 50 years. Seen Folkie Neil, Crazy Horse Neil, Trans Neil, Country Neil, Solo Neil, but never Blue Note Neil...Ive been obsessed with this song for the last 2 weeks...For the Rock and Roll People!
I was at the show and recorded an audio tape, but I didn't record this video. But I got the video via a downloaded torrent and uploaded it here. Similarly, I uploaded a video of Sixty to Zero (acoustic) from the Aug 18, 1988 Toronto CNE show.
I saw this tour in Sacramento in 1988. This version of Ordinary People was the best performance of a song I have seen Neil and band do. The crowd was just blown away by this song.
Blows my mind that I would see him for the first time some 10 days later on 8/29/88 at the tender age of 4 years old 🤣. Dad had me sneak in a tape recorder. Thanks for sharing!
Neil and friends at their very best. Putting everything into their performance. I have seen him 10 times since Wembley 74. A national treasure, or international treasure...
Someone made a DVD that had most of the Aug 18th Toronto show and some of the Darien Lake show, and I found it from a music torrent site several years ago. I then extracted the "Ordinary People" performance from the DVD to share here.
I was at this show when I was like 7 years old. It was when the lawn seats were in the front and bleachers were in the back, it's been the opposite now for a while. My dad carried me the way to the front and then I guess I told him I wanted to go back lol.. Sorry dad
Was at the show just a few days earlier I believe, at Cayuga Cty. Fairgronds in Weedpsort, NY. Also an awesome show. Got an audio recording of it around somewhere.
Two out of work models and a fashion slave Tried to dance away the Michelob night The bartender poured himself another drink When two drunkens sat and watching a fight The champ went down but he got up again Then he went out like a light He was fighting for the people But his timing wasn't right The Las Vegas people They came to see the Las Vegas fight High rolling people...
There's an indy artist in Connecticut that just started doing a Neil Young solo tribute show and it's absolutely amazing how much he sounds like Neil, even on his own original music. I've never heard anyone whose voice is this close to Neil's. He just posted a video of a full performance of the show (he calls it "The Loner: The Music of Neil Young") he did at a small club in Bridgeport, CT. See what you think. ruclips.net/video/GKktfL-ThKo/видео.html
I would love to see what this old Darien lakeside amphitheatre looked like when used for concerts I know what it looks like now but now it's a laser light show venue I can't find pictures of this old venue anywhere!!!
It was just a "patch of ground" with a stage in front and open bleachers in the back. The current amphitheater is a much better place to experience a show.
I was there too, I was like 5. My dad carried me to the front on his shoulders, it when they had the lawn in the front and the bleachers in the back (opposite from now) I told him after he made his way Ll the way up, I wanted to go back.. so he took me back lol
The old lakeside amphitheatre now its the site of the laser light show thats been the same FUCKING SHOW SINCE 1992!!! I think the stage that was used here is still standing ??
utterly priceless history sublime and worth watching with the lyrics in another screen to get the full impact www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/neilyoung/ordinarypeople.html Chris - you captured the crown jewels thank you
Unfortunately, he's let his politics get in the way and he don't give a damn about the "Hard workin' people" anymore. He's become an elitist that don't give a sh*t about ordinary people like you and me too
That my friends is a killer song.

Best shows are usually the good ones..big shows produce big hits..me personally prefer the smaller shows ..more personal for the artist in general.
Meant small shows..even though..good.lol
I was there ... I was only 5 but I was there. When the lawn was in the front and the bleachers were in the back

Picking a top Neil Young song or Performance is almost impossible, but this is it for me. Unreal.

"I got faith in the regular kind. Hard workin' people." -Neil Young
I guess that's me, the Ordinary People.
Unfortunately, he's let his politics get in the way and he don't give a damn about the "Hard workin' people" anymore. He's become an elitist that don't give a sh*t about ordinary people like you and me too
