WOW ! AMazing! He didn't come to Montreal for that tour ! What a shame ! This is the missing tour of the eighties for me...What a fucken great song.... !
The lyrics is great 👍. I like the acoustic . Good story . I like when he throws in his little perks . He is very animated singing this song . A cheeseburger and new Rolling Stone . Ha Ha We love you Mr Neil 🤠
i can't believe it i saw this show in Cleveland and I also went to radio shack bought the smallest tape recorder they had determined to make me a hoot sorry neil but it was 4 personal use anyway after show couldn't wait to get to the car and c how the quality was I was high satisfied and then it disappeared and then it reappeared when my buddy passed I helped his mom clear his room and there it was we titles it hippie dream rip
Just a bit of trivia about this great song performed in Toronto...Neil's dad was in the audience. I saw him walk down to his seat before the show. He had written a book called "Neil and Me" a couple of years earlier. It's a great read for any Neil Young fan.
I met Scott Young (Neil's Dad) at the Aug 18, 1988 Toronto show. I gave him a copy of an essay I'd written about Neil's experience with polio when he was 5 years old in 1951. Scott focused on this story in a chapter in "Neil & Me." I wrote the essay for a course on the history of science and medicine in Canada at the University of Western Ontario in early 1988. My essay was later published in the NYAS "Broken Arrow" fanzine in 1989 (issue #36). You can read my essay at: sugarmtn.org/ba/pdf.ba/web/ba_viewer.html?file=%2Fba/pdf/ba036.pdf#page=14=4&zoom=page-fit
I was fortunate to see Neil & Bluenotes 4th row @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center and he did similar version. I had a cassette bootleg poor quality and photos, good shots unfortunately lost in a fire. Thanx for posting this. Still got the memories, though.
I remember him debuting the full song on his Acoustic Evening With Neil Young tour in 1988. I was disappointed the following year when he released the cut in half version on the album Freedom.
You're welcome. I also have the full "Sixty to Zero" from the Aug 19, 1988 show in Darien Lake that I'd like to post, plus some other favourites from the show, including "Ordinary People" and an amazing "Tonight's the Night".
This is the version he should have included on "Bluenote Cafe." The shorter, electric version is great, but not that much different than what ended up on "Freedom." It was incredible to be at the Toronto show to see him debut such an unreleased epic song; I captured it on cassette and figured out the lyrics. A little later in the show he upped his game further and debuted "Ordinary People," the full live original version of which is included on "Bluenote Cafe."
Don't quite agree. I think Neil tried to emulate the concert experience, as in the sequencing of the whole thing. The August 27 version of CITC has some raw energy that I would have missed. Having both wouldn't have fit. Archives Vol 4 and/or Road of Plenty it'll have to be.
What a great tune .This allegedly is the original .In my mind the NY & Blue Notes in their short existence did live stuff that in my mind was astounding [epic my daughter might say] .Ordinary People [not the lucky thirteen one] The Big Room .Don,t take your love away,Coupe De Ville and the extrodinary This notes for you .
I posted the "Tonight's The Night" encore from the Aug 18, 1988 Toronto show. And coming very soon is "Ordinary People" from the Aug 19 Darien Lake show.
Thanks Christopher. Found the link to this complete version on Rolling Stone. One for the hard core fans, they wrote. With I’m the Ocean, Change your Mind, etc. Pretty good choice to me. The more these songs go, the more they become a loop we’re getting lost in, a mantra we’re getting higher and higher with. Tulsa was not the last trip he took us with. Last time he used some psychedelic pill Driftin us Back with him.
The only way to get the most part of my favorite part is the only thing that is a good day to be able to get to know that you can find out how much of it is a great time at the end of this message has been in the future of our own lives of the best of luck with your own.
Indeed...Neil & Bob both prolific song writers. I've followed Neil since the very early 70's. I think he's more talented on the harmonica than Bob Dylan. He also plays the piano very well. Multi-talented.
No stomp box on the electric bluenotes, this is great stuff, before he had the i pad taped to the mic stand. Would love to see OP, original and best verse order. Ian
wow !!! I used to have a Rustlist comp that had this on it ,,,, like on cassette tape I wore it out so cool to see it I see brother Ben on the steel but who is the second guitar ???? somebody bring me a cheeeeseburger and A new Rolling stone
Hank Peganoff There is RTBP on bass, and I think the guitar is Poncho Sampedro. I can't see very well, and I am not sure at all, but I know he played with Rick and the Bluenotes . It was about at that time. Ralph on drums I guess.
Unbelievable, no one does songs like this anymore.
Just amazing Neil
Christopher Rutty ! Thank You For Posting This ! Eternally Grateful ! Yes!
Power swing 🤣
Indeed...Thank You! I have never seen nor heard this one and I'm a Neil Young fan? I'm ashamed of myself!
WOW ! AMazing! He didn't come to Montreal for that tour ! What a shame ! This is the missing tour of the eighties for me...What a fucken great song.... !

holy god !! thanks neil , out of this world
The Man and his story of how a country went from 60 to Zero and distroyed a society. Rock on Neil!! Bo
Wow! All the extra lyrics makes it make more sense. And love the live sax!
This must be the unique live video of this song in it's complete version!
A Treasure.
THANK YOU !!!!
I love this version! Neil really lets the song breathe. But it works well done electric too. The man can do no wrong!
Neil Young is one of my favorite songwriter and performers. I see him whenever I can. Love Neil Live
Uffffff, what a treasure!!!! 😱😱😱😍😍😍😍
Huge thanks!!!!
This captured my mind in the early nineties. Still listening to figure out why.
Mind blowing performance, unreal
It's like a train 🚂
Outstanding. One of my fave NY songs.

@@cjrutty That is very interesting...thanks for the info. Broken Arrow was a great fanzine as well.
It's cryptic and epic all at once!
I was at this show
How on Earth he didn't lose track of the lyrics, we'll never know.
I was fortunate to see Neil & Bluenotes 4th row @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center and he did similar version. I had a cassette bootleg poor quality and photos, good shots unfortunately lost in a fire. Thanx for posting this. Still got the memories, though.
Awsome

Simply real music

Thank you for sharing this amazing recording. I have never had the opportunity to see Neil live. But obviously Neil Rocks!
So awesome
Glorious
Amazing
Amo muito ❤❤❤❤
Quantity IS Quality for the great ones like Neil Young.
Amazing 20mins..
I don't why I haven't seen this one before! Love Neil Young and Bob Dylan. Does this seem very Dylanesque to anyone else???
I think the tune itself is kinda similar to all along the watchtower, but the lyrics are definitely dylanesque
The acoustic guitar is like a (crazy) galloping horse that carries on for the entire length of the song.
Saw him do this at The World in NYC, blew my fucking mind
Thanks For Sharing💫🤙🏻
Thank you. Great recording.
wow !!! this is good
This is unbelievable - thank you for posting!!
The full concert (audio only) is now available on Young's website, professionally recorded of course.
Thanks for the heads-up. My audio recording turned out quite nicely, but it's nice to also have a more professional recording available.
@HarmKuijpers, please could you provide an URL? Can’t find it.
I posted the "Tonight's The Night" encore from the Aug 18, 1988 Toronto show. And coming very soon is "Ordinary People" from the Aug 19 Darien Lake show.
i am anxiously awaiting those...thank you for all your posts
Only love can break your heart
One of my favorites. Also "Tell Me Why"....so many actually!
Great book by the same name on Neil's career...by Johnny Rogan...highly recommended....
By J Rogan? Isn’t life weird?

"Ordinary People" is now up, form the Aug 19, 1988 Darien Lake show. See my YT channel.
There are hints of Dylan’s “Watchtower,” but it’s like Neil takes on the role of the “rider...approaching” and provides his own howling wind.
Broken Arrow.
No
Only Neil can match Dylan pound for pound.
Actually it remember me of „All along the Whatchtower“ … Same stream of spirit …
Indeed...Neil & Bob both prolific song writers. I've followed Neil since the very early 70's. I think he's more talented on the harmonica than Bob Dylan. He also plays the piano very well. Multi-talented.

And he's playing old Hank!
Crime in the City or 0 2 60

+billenplum Chad Cromwell on drums. Steve Lawrence on saxophone.
Flynt Oakwood Right :) I just bought yesterday the new release Bluenote Cafe, from this tour. Been waiting 27 years long... and it's just ... giant !
Moe the sleaze would b proud
Neil was always looking things over and predicting how things would go…. Amazing how the lyrics jibe with today’s sociopolitical morass
Such prescient genius… the first 5 verses predict a Trumpian downfall!
Now he lives with the homeless .
