      @@victorsuarez2954 a proper rated safety glasses won't shatter. It may crack or get deformed but I haven't seen it cracked like the windshield does. I have seen quite a few incidents and safety glasses does really help a lot, but we have our own beliefs and I respect that.

    I just got put out of service in the December 2019 DOT inspection with king pins. Sucks, I'm just a 1-truck (International 4300) company, now without any income and not enough cash for the repair. Your video is tempting me to give it a go in my driveway. THANK YOU so much for taking the time to post this video!!! I got shit faced one night and did a face plant on a beer can in my driveway. I got the same black eye, I feel your pain. My license renewal was due the next week so now my new license picture is proof of what an asshole I am. However, people that ask for my ID get a great, drunken story. Thank you again for you video!!!

    I'm a retired truck mechanic, I remember the old days when the new bushings were just a brass bushing that you installed and then you used a great big reamer and reamed and reamed until the king pin fit the bushing. it was a lot of work. Then later they came up with plastic bushings which was real easy, but they didn't last very long.

    I know the feeling when it comes to stuck kingpins. The 1.5" ones are a nightmare, the 2" ones come out easier. As a recommendation, when i get a frozen wedge pin, i heat it up cherry red with a torch. Then I lean on it with an air hammer. When it comes to the kingpin, i heat the spindle just a little, and then drive it out with an air chipping hammer. Sometimes i alternate between the chipping hammer, and the 16 .lb sledgehammer. Some guys use kingpin presses, but they are expensive, and don't fit all trucks. And if possible, i like using the spiral kyser king pin kits. No reaming, hardened steel bushings, and they last forever. Hope this helps.

    thanks for the show, it inspired press my first kingpin. my press is easier to operate pushing the pin up, but all the kingpin shows i have watched, press down. i caliper'd the pin on both ends, measuring 1.875... so that means i am good to press up instead of down, right?
    i had a hell of a time removing the kingpin retainers, i had to invent 4 drifts: 2+hr. and the draglink nuts are seized proper, but i can work around that by removing more steering gear... and 4 tons pressing up hasnt moved

    • @Ezrider359
      @Ezrider359  5 лет назад +1

      straight non tapered pins should be able to come out either up or down. probably just seized in there good and tight. kingpins are one of those jobs that is pretty straight forward but can fight you every step of the way sometimes.
