Very informative, made a jig like yours to do our truck and worked like a champ, thank you.

We welded a jig that bolts to the spindle and has a pipe that's centered over the kingpin and we drive it out with a sledgehammer. Works great for this job.

Amazing how easy the new pin went in. Considering the bushing material; odd the old on was sized up like it was. Dusty dry though.

Best video I've seen on RUclips in a long time. King Pins are never fun. You make it look easy!

    •  4 года назад

YardpigTSI Repair king pin is fun, use big hammer make work is easily for lower price. But when you have more money, you can buy king pin press tool (Tiger tool king pin press), don’t use hydraulic this make your work hard and waste much times like this video.

It's amazing how smart some people are on here . You'll spend a couple hundred dollars on pins and bushings and not twenty dollars for grease and a bottle jack .

Many people ignore!!! That why grease nipples are given to lubricate such moving parts like: king pins, tie rod ends, leaf springs, propeller shaft center bush & shaft cross. It's better to greasing all given grease nipples after every 5000Km.

Awesome, I couldn't imagine how you were going to break 2 20-ton bottle jacks. I was imagining jacking up the truck; but how do you break a 20-ton jack doing that? And I was impressed with that jig you made to remove the king pin. Also, whoever edited this has mad skills!

@ 14:40 Thou shalt not heat up the cast iron I-beam or steering knuckle! You also fail to measure your axle (I-beam) bore for out of round ! If it's out of round, then you need to bore it out and sleeve it back to size or your king pins will have short life.

Don’t use a wrench on a square head. You will strip it. Use either an actual square socket or a 12-point socket. On a second thought, you can use a wrench, but the other way around where it has a 12-point. The problem, though, will be lack of leverage. I’d definitely go with a socket and a breaker bar. They do sell ratchet breaker bars for a quicker job.
I’ve seen some people use an impact wrench on that tool, but I don’t know if the manual says it’s okay or not. Some also say you should lubricate the threads to make the tool last longer.

Use channel instead of angle iron, weld the horizontal top and bottom pieces inside the vertical pieces so they will be stronger. We had a kingpin pressed out of a 1978 Ford F250 pickup. We had to remove the I-beam out of the truck and take it to a shop where they pressed it out. How much pressure? 27 tons.

Is it a necessity to remove the disk and hub out or its possible to work around it?

    • @thetrick4fun

Oh yes. Without removing a hub you will not be able to remove the shield around and you won't be able to work. And it is one of the easiest part to remove the hub.

Depends! The make of the truck ( MAN, DAF , Volvo , Scania) or if it is a truck or a trailer steering axle etc. ... most of them are well known and they have a different type of difficulty grade. But they are already timed. In Europe it is calculated between 3 to 6 hours per kingpin on a head unit and for trailers can go up to 10 hours per kingpin
