I am amazed at what these workers can do. In the USA we would not tolerate working conditions like these. However, we have for many, many years been industrialized, modernized, OSHA-fied (rules and safety mandates) and of course we're just a little bit spoiled! Watching that bucket come together was really awesome. The end product looked top-notch too. *These people know what real work is! Watching them work with that heavy plate steel was incredible. Too bad they probably do not get paid nearly what they deserve!* My hat is off to you all! Incredible...just incredible!

I make this comment as a retired toolmaker and design engineer who still uses a metal shop (at my local Menz Shed) and I can say that I am really quite impressed by the workmanship in this video. The freehand gas-axe work was beautiful - especially cutting out the holes for the big pins. I even learnt something new - I have never seen a lathe used to line bore like that. The positional accuracy wouldn't have been great, but it would have been good enough, and the hole sizes would have been more than OK. Even Kurtis at Cutting Edge Engineering uses a hammer to adjust the cutting tool when line boring, although he does have a DTI to get closer tolerances than these guys would have managed. I am maybe a bit worried about the welding as there was bevels I could see, so the welds would have had little penetration. I guess if it works, it works.

Back in the 80's in Dubai, I saw this fellow single handedly build a tanker body on a Mercedes-Benz truck. He got his plates bent into shape and delivered on site. The worksite was out on one side of the lane, in the open with traffic passing by. Everytime I drove down that industrial lane the tank body took shape, untill it was painted to finish and delivered.

Very good job. Looking at the video, it seems that all the tasks are easy to perform, but we know that reality is quite different. Watching the video, I have the clear impression that everyone who participates in the factory really likes what they are doing, some work smiling, this is great because it demonstrates the satisfaction of the job done and the accomplishment of something well done, that is, an excellent final product quality and from what I understand this excavator shell will last for a long time.

We learned a long time ago that safety glasses saves eyes, steel toe boots saves feet, ear plugs saves ears, and gloves saves hands. We also learned that the cost of the safety gear is nothing compared to losing a limb. I'm sure they have the best doctors and insurance to take care of what ever life threatening injuries they may have. Either way the job will get done because these workers are cheep and easily replaceable.

From several old industrial movies I have watched, I think they have similar employee work safety you could find in major industrial countries like the UK, USA or Germany on 1850-1930s. For me that gap does not look so big considering the huge difference on income and opportunities.

Yep. 100 year old tech used to make parts for a 50 year old excavator. Imagine what they could do with modern tech in a modern shop.
The amount of broken safety rules just in this one video is staggering. I suspect there are lots of workers who get hurt too badly to continue working.
