    Let me tell ya..I assumed i was just low on testosterone since I’m in my 40’s. I was gaining weight quickly, suffered from short term memory loss and was exhausted all day. Had blood work done and turns out my vitamin D level was at a 3! Started taking D supplement and it cured it all. My energy levels went up and I lost 30lbs like it was nothing. And now I can even remember what I ate for breakfast lol. I was amazed at the role it plays on your body.

    I was 24 when I moved to Canada in 2017.
    But, I was born in southern India where the tropical climate plays a big role. I was under the sun almost every day I felt really healthy, never obese, and more active, and it's very rare I got sick.
    After experiencing the first winter in Canada which is 5 months of cold weather - I stayed inside all those months. I gained weight, felt sick, and Dehydrated most of the time. And also the diet here in America is so bad. I got to the doctor-prescribed Vitamin D. I'm back on track.
    My advice is to go out in the summer - get all you can. All living things in this world need SUN to survive.

      Yes I lived in Canada my whole life so far. The winters are really something else lol. was -40 celsius just a week ago where I live lol

    I had a vitamin d and c deficiency. How I knew something was wrong is because my legs constantly hurt and nothing relieved it. My doctor did a vitamin d test found out I was low and though I was on vitamin d my legs still hurt. My chiropractor suggested testing my vitamin c which was also low and now I have no leg pain. Listen to your body people.

      fantastic! may I ask if you take vitamin c liposoluble? I take the regular one (that you pee eventually) but I'd like to know if you take the regular one and still got absorbed.

      Vitamin C deficiency is insanely rare in modern society, almost no one is going to have that. Especially with all the BS pseudoscience having people taking it all the time.

    I was deficient in Vitamin D (my test came back at 11 when the recommended range is 30-100) and didn't realize I was suffering from it until I was put on prescription dosage twice a week. It can effect your energy levels, hair, skin, and nails. I take the prescription dosage once weekly but I'm only just inside that 30-100 range. Vitamins are no joke

      My daughter who is 14 was having symptoms of tiredness, liver enzyme’s a little high, fast heart rate. Come to find out, her vitamin D was 14. She is now on a 2 month vitamin D Waffer to. bring up levels then she will take regular supplements for it.

      @Cookie Monster i only suffered the exhaustion. I could get a full nights rest and pass out and sleep another 4-5hrs by 2pm. We only checked my levels cause it had never been done before and my primary wanted a baseline.

      I got checked a few weeks ago, cause i have bone issues that kept getting worse. The test gave me a 3...i am getting tested this week again after high dosage therapy...i hope this will stop the bone-swelling sooner or later

      Wow, the people in this thread who are super low on vitamin D! Make sure you take K with your D every day and take magnesium - super important.

      Had it at 10.7. I was tired, nervous, depressed, more anger problems. I also had severe insomnia, sweating during nights until my sheets got really wet. Nightmares. Could not bear it any longer and got medical help I needed. Now I have 48.6, and I will never ever ever again avoid sunlight because pAlE sKiN sO gOOoThIc. Glad summer is almost here, will befriend our Sun so I do not have medical problems anymore.

    I'm preparing for NEET exam and these videos are really helping me to understand the concepts so clearly. I couldn"t go to lab or i can't attend classes so this channel is helping me through a lot.. I am really thankful. My goal is to become a Doctor I'll comment again on this channel when i achieve my Goal🥺
    EDIT : I watch this channel to get the basics understand of what my textbook has i only take a part of it. and not try to understand everything is see in the video. so it doesn't affect my knowledge in anyway.. I know these are some advanced portion of what iam studying now but these videos enhance my memory in storing what my textbook teaches me.. that's the only reason that I'm here.. hope everyone understand

    Four fat soluble vitamins are D, E, K, A. "Deka" means blanket in my language so I can never forget it, but also it helps that I know their chemical structures and properties 😆

    I've been an ileostomate for 22 years now (I don't have a colon.) I've been diagnosed with anxiety, PTSD, and depression. I had no idea how vitamin D could effect your mental health. I think I need to get some blood work done to see if vitamin D might help with it. Thank you for putting this video out.

      Hi sweetheart please read my comment about how this has affected my health- I too have had a lot of surgery on my bowel and also suffer a raft of problems with my health ( rheumatoid arthritis- fibromyalgia- chronic pain and fatigue) to mention a few !- but I have also suffered severe depression and anxiety- and I have always assumed that it was my physical health impacting on my mental health- but since having a diagnosis of very low vitamin D- I have come to understand that this can also cause mental health issues?- so my advice is simply this- YES GET CHECKED OUT!- I hope to have a chance to talk to my dr soon to find out how this low vitamin D has happened- but for now I am just hoping that the extremely high vitamin D capsules will work their magic!-( and I am also trying to get more exposure to sunshine and also making sure that I make good dietary choices etc- ?) Tbh - I am sure that I have had to make good choices anyway due to my health- but I have to be open minded in order to improve!? - I wish you good luck sweetheart 🥰

      @@iUnicornTv It's unbelievable that this seems to be a common issue. Doctors should look a little closer when they have a patient presenting with these symptoms. I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my sister 5 years ago and it left me heartbroken.

    Before lockdown i was already living a stangent lifestyle inside my home due to being jobless and lockdown made it worse. My health declined, lost 13 kg without even trying, 2tooths got rct, hairfalls and much more.
    All this made me realise one important thing, that's more important than proper diet, that is, just move your body, no matter what just don't lie down and rest for long, it'll ruin you. It's not a coincidence that we get vit d from sun, if you move your asss, you're gonna get this vit while being exposed to sun while moving. Human body is very smart. You don't need to add anything extraordinary just eat normal and be active always.

    When we first went on lock down for COVID, my feet, hands and legs all of a sudden started numbing. I automatically thought diabetes. My blood was tested and turned out my vitamin D level was at 13. My doctor prescribed me vitamin D and the numbness went away. I take vitamin D regularly now.

      We’re suppose to get 90% from the sun and it’s actually a hormone. Supplement good too but too much can be toxic and blood levels can get toxic.

    What’s crazy is that taking in too much vitamin d through supplements can actually severely damage someone’s liver due to it being fat soluble, someone I know actually got a fatty liver from it.

    Great job! I love how you went over the hormones and the 'down stream' effects of each one. If your liver is damaged it may not perform this properly, same for your kidneys. It's important to keep all your organs as healthy as possible because they all work together. ❤❤

      Your job needs a strong stomach or a good spiritual grounding.     I’m so glad you understand the dilemma of wanting/needing sunshine (especially for my mental health) but burning easily, requiring shade, sunscreen, etc., if I’m in the sun for more than 10 minutes. Sigh.

      Eat a ten carrots a day and increase the sun expose five minutes per day and you'll tan without burning.

      I was used to get burned within 15 minutes also, now I can stay for hours. Only thing I changed was my diet: no more refined seed oils, and low on carbs.

      to keep from overheating, I sunbathe for 10-15 minutes at a time, only at UV over 4 (or else it's pointless) but under 8 (or else it feels like being microwaved) (your weather app lists the current UV) - and I cover my face with a hat because it burns easily and doesn't contribute much to absorption - supposedly this regimen once daily is enough for long-term results, wish me luck

    That’s amazing! I’m 31 years old now and when I was a child, my mom used to make me sit under the morning sun drinking a glass of milk because my pediatrician recommended. I hated doing that back then but now I feel so grateful.

      Morning sun is awesome, but the best time of the day to make vit d is actually around noon. Its the uv light that is you need and its strongest between 10 in the morning, 4 afternoon. The problem is its the same thing that makes skin cancer lol.

    I just had an exam about human biology and one of the questions asked was about this exact topic. A little late for this video to get recommended to me, but this channel has helped me not only understand the human body more, but also become less squeamish, which was a big issue for me in the past. I still have a long way to go, but I'm happy with the improvements I've made so far. And I'm pretty sure this channel had a big part in it

    Please do a Vitamin K video?? (Actually, do all of them!) I knew Vitamin D was good for bone health, but I couldn't find an understandable explanation as to why. As you know, there is a growing interest in nutritional health on RUclips. Thank you for being intuitive & digestible

      There is no useless Vitamin. You don't need a video for each single one. If they tell you, you do have a deficit, without having you testet, they just make you crazy. It's the same as telling you, you have cancer - Take a pill. They play with your fears.

      Vit D3 + K2 go hand in hand together. I purposely increased dosage of vit D3 and ate vegetables rich in k2 for 2-3 months straight. My dentist said my gums and teeth dramatically improved and it was evident how strong they became

    Vitamin D also has an affect on mental health. Eg dark, cold times are more likely to cause depressive episodes too.

    I'm a patient that not only had her thyroid removed but parathyroids were damaged. I'm vitamin D deficiency, i no longer make calcium so I have hypocalcemia, no thyroid so I'm hypothyroidism. Hypocalcemia is no joke I have been weeks in hospital getting bags of calcium iv, I have twitches in my face, my bones hurt bad, I have lost my teeth, and it's a hard disease. You never hear about people who suffer like me....

    Excellent information. I lived in a mostly gray, cloudy region (during the winter) of the US for a few years and my Vitamin D levels be came very low. I had to take supplements. Then I moved to a mostly sunny region 7 years ago. I haven't taken supplements in over 5 years -- Vitamin D level are normal. Amazing!

    On the channel Darkhorse, they had an interview a while ago with a couple who have spent years studying vitamin D, some of the facts they cover is quite amazing
    An interesting fact is that sun exposure needs to be done at certain times of the day, basically when the sun is high, otherwise the exposure is mostly ineffective

    The thing about textbooks or visual aid is that I couldn't imagine for some reason where everything was located in my own body or how they really looked like in real life, even mixing up the left side the right side sometimes 😂 I love your work so much!     I saw I had low Vitamin D from a blood test. I'm not sure if it's a symptom of vitamin D defienecy but my energy level was very low until I started taking D3 supplements.

    Recently, some RUclips video producers have been utilizing short videos (usually under a minute or two) to mention topics and familiarize with those topics without going into great detail. Would be nice to create a short video about vitamin K2, it's relationship with vitamin D, and difference in MK-7 version versus others. If there is enough interest then perhaps a separate full length video in greater detail. I'm especially interested in how well it assists in decalcification within arteries and calcification on bones.

    Very important video. My vitamin D level was at 33 and since I started supplementing with 4000 IUs per day it is now up to 49. I never knew how important D is.

      I don't take synthetic vitamins, i go in the sun for a hour around 3pm . I use magnesium, i take real iron, i don't take sulfate iron. If you have problem with pain bones look in to boron.

    On additional note: if you have severe vitamin D deficiency and need to supplement it in high doses, you need to monitor your calcium level in blood and urine, cause you're at risk of developing hiperkalcemia, which is dangerous.
    Fat soluble vitamins are ADEK.

      When taking Vitamin D3 it’s advisable to add about 120-180mcg of Vitamin K2/MK7 for every 5000iu of D3 this helps directs the calcium in the blood and soft tissues to the bones and teeth also prevents buildup of plaques in the heart arteries and along the kidneys.

      @Troy Joseph if you have deficit, building it up will be slow and most likely need supplementation. Sun and food are great if you're stable on normal level.

      Technically you may be right but your body will make vitamin D when exposed to the sun. It basically means the same thing.

      Yeah! Vitamin D is a hormone. Our bodies MAKE hormones. And sunlight is what helps us do it to make "Hormone D".

      @@nonyabidness5708 I heard a commenter say you don't get vitamin D from the sun, and I believe that may be true but your body uses sunlight to produce vitamin D.

    I'm suffering from Vit-D deficiency right now, as he said, I get tested very late, cause earlier I had no idea of Vit-D or so. Right now I've lower back pain, where the femur meets the waist bone. It's very painful for me to walk even a single step, even sleeping flat is very hard. I would suggest everyone out there, who's feeling a bit unhealthy to get checked early, It might save you the nightmare that I'm living with. Hope I recover soon. I forgot to tell that Vit-D makes you feel depressed also, so one more reason to get you blood tested ASAP.

    I love watching your videos, you explain things so simply! I just wanted to ask is it safe to take Vitamin D supplements daily, as they get stored in the liver? I find taking Vitamin D supplements really helps to strengthen my immune system xx

      The best way to do is to make a blood testing, take d3 for a 60/90 days and test again. Unless you are taking 50 000 units a day - the probability of you overdosing is not big. Most bodybuilders take around 4000 units daily. We are not very out in the sun anymore.

    In 2018 I was tested, and my results came back as 5ng/mL. I've been taking it daily since. I'm of Finnish heritage, so super pasty white, and I don't get out much due to fibromyalgia, so I don't get much sun. (plus I lived near Seattle for 15 years). I also have degenerative disc disease. I'm wondering if this all started due to low levels over time. Hard to know for sure though until more study is done.

    I used to live in rainy gray Seattle and I also dealt with depression, and my blood work had a vitamin D level of 21! I started taking supplements and within a week I noticed changes. It was so weird that such a small change made such a difference, but I was grateful!

    Can you possibly explain why the parathyroid would produce (slightly) too much hormone? I was just diagnosed with this (the secondary hyper parathyroidism). It is mild and my doctor wants to just keep an eye on it for now. I’m concerned because I already have advanced osteopenia (57 y.o. female, BMI 21). My kidney and liver labs are normal. Is there something I could be doing to influence the hyper parathyroid issue?

    Really nice and informative video, always wondered how the d3 and calcium work together. I wonder if some day you guys can make a video talking about how probiotics affects your gut and general health. I'm Japanese and I was tough to eat "kimuchi" every day since the Bacteria in the "Kim" will help me absorb more nutrients and so have a stronger immune system. Keep the good work 💪

    Simplified versions of explanations like these should be taught to all teenagers in high school in health class for when they're out on their own post schooling and should be mandatory along with economics.

      Unless you can put numbers on it, like how many minutes sun exposure you actually need per day, for given amounts of skin uncovered by clothing, there is no point in teaching it - it's in practice meaningless. Especially when school kids are strongly taught that sun exposure leads to skin cancer and they must be fully covered or covered in UV blocking cream at all times in the sun. How do you expect them to resolve this dilemma when even doctors don't know.

    Two things to remember, 1) D is not a "vitamin" it is a hormone regulator. and 2) always consume K2 as MK7 with D to prevent calcification in soft tissues. Otherwise, great video.

I didn't burn anymore after banning vegetable seed oils out of my diet, and most of the sugar and carbs. Not only me, hundreds of thousands of people doing low carb/ keto experienced the same thing. No burn, no cancer.

    When I was a teen my vitamin D and my iron levels were extremely low. I’m not sure which one it was but one of the levels even was in the negative 😅
    Only symptom I noticed was fatigue- which also didn’t get better after taking supplements even though my levels turned almost normal with time.

    I had foot surgery 4 weeks ago and my surgeon recommended I take Vitamin D and C to assist my bones in healing faster. It was a bit weird getting Vitamin D prescribed to me since I live in such a sunny city, but I luckily only have to take it once a week. The Vitamin C is a daily thing. I loved learning why I need it and how it works. Thanks!

      It would take a long time in the sun to get what a supplement will give you. Unless you’re a lifeguard out there for hours, ten minutes walking to and from the car isn’t going to do anything.

    I tested last year and had a very low level of vitamin D. When I started to research more about it, I was surprised to see that there are not so many food sources of vitamin D and most of them come from animals.
    As a vegetarian, my options were limited, so I opted for suppliments. While doing the research, I also came across the 'dillema' between using sunscreen and the absortion of vitamin D from the sun. From what I read until now, the opinions are divided since there is no much data about whether the suncreen inhibits the absortion of vitamin D. Theoretically, that should be the case, that since the suncreen blocks the UV rays, the absortion of vitamin D should be inhibited.
    I did not found many studies, but the ones I read conclusioned that using suncreen does not have so much impact on the absortion of vitamin D.
    Could you explain more this topic? because I am still a little confused.

      Sun screen isn't that effective at preventing cellular sun damage anyways. Just cover up with a hat or full body loose clothing.
      And nothing wrong with getting some sun exposure with no sun screen.

      Should not apply sunscreen for the first 10 - 15 minutes of expsoure to the sun except for the face to prevent wrinkles. After that time period apply it right away, because when you pass that period of time your skin will stop producing Vit D3 due to sunburn, and sunburn leads to skin cancer.
      Please remember when you try getting Vit D3 from the sun, you only should wear swimsuit. Topless and shorts only, face is exceptional, you can wear hat, sunglasses, or even apply suncreen on your face.

      i think that you should get some voluntary fullbody sun exposure, with no sunscreen, whenever you feel like it.

      Sunscreens are not very good at their job anyway. So if you put one and go in the sun for 8 hours - you will get your vit d. It depends on your life goals and where you live tho. If you are gonna be out all day and live somewhere sunny - put sunscreen for sure. And a hat. And comfy loose clothing.

    I moved from Venezuela to the Netherlands about 4 years ago, and even though I've never been a person who likes to sunbathe, I've found that even if I take vitamin D supplements everyday I still need one of those super charged doses for a few weeks once a year that can be prescribed by the GP. I don't think my Latin body is made for (or has adapted to) the Netherlands lack of sun.

      It's true, dark skinned people have lots of trouble getting enough sunlight on the northern hemisphere. And the supplements are usually way too low to have an effect. Amazon sells higher concentrated D3 pills, like 10,000 and 20,000 IU.

    EDIT: I live in WA and work under artificial light so I take a supplement once a week and, thankfully, my levels are good. I take one higher dose pill a week because I will forget if I take it daily. I’m a bad patient 🤷🏼‍♀️

      Can’t imagine artificial light being anything but damaging. I worked in a store, years ago, & everything that sat within 2’ of the lights would be faded & have to be discarded within two weeks time. It would even penetrate the bottles.

Anytime I’m under fluorescent lighting my eyes get really red and dry and irritated and then people think I’m either high or I’ve been crying because people feel the need to point out other people’s appearance I guess. I’ve actually grown to be self-conscious about it because I wouldn’t want a nurse to care for me that looked high or that she just had a breakdown in the break room.
