Hey mate. I’m really enjoying your videos and honestly you’re a breath of fresh air with the way you go about hunting and wild meat prep. But from this old bugger to a young bugger I’ve gotta say I was wincing all the way through the second half of this video. Whilst it was an exceptional achievement, if you were carrying out a wounded comrade then I would unconditionally applaud you, but you weren’t! What are you were doing in blunt terms was putting yourself and your future endeavours at risk by unnecessarily carrying out a crazy weight. In my community, that kind of thing has hurt far too many guys too many times and they pay one hell of a price later in life.
We are mostly in our mid-50s +/-10 years or so, and it’s no coincidence to say that the guys that were carrying whole deer and big pigs out when they were young are now carrying way more debilitating injuries than those that chose not to do this. I have hunting mates who are practically crippled by injuries sustained doing exactly what you did in this video. Hips, knees, ankles, lower backs. Sincerely I do wish some of the young fellas these days could just take a step back and think about protecting themselves, so they can continue hunting into much older age. It’s not just the physical breakdown that comes from carrying these weights, it’s the effect on mental health later in life as well. It’s really tough watching your mates have fun on the hill through a small screen, only because you can’t get up there anymore and you haven’t even turned 50.
Venison is easy to come by and the red deer is a pest species. Whilst you are clearly exhibiting behaviours that demonstrate the best of hunting ethics and values, you’ve got to be prepared to leave meat behind so that you will be fit to come back next time, and long into the future. Honestly mate you could have done that recovery in two trips in the time that it took you to do one. But even halving that weight and doubling the distance is still a lot to be carrying on your back for any length of time. But I do note that you clearly said at the end that you were never going to do that again! Please don’t.
All this is said with the best of intentions. Wish you nothing but the best and please keep these excellent videos coming.
Hey mate, thanks for watching and cheers for the kind feedback 😁. Definitely essential to keep looking after the body & mind, and I'm certainly not carrying such a heavy pack on the regular, an injury would be the absolute worst!
It is always a bit of a balancing act between my physical limits and how far to push them, and also trying to hunt within my own set of hunting ethics while being respectful to the animals I've taken. I'm trying real hard not to shoot 3 animals in one go these days 🤣
I appreciate the comment, and plenty more to come!
Your hunting ethics are second to none especially for a young fella. Well done on the carry out, your knees are going miss that cartilage when your get older.
Thanks for that, yeah, pretty keen to take it a bit lighter next trip 😂
That's unreal Tasman! What a mammoth effort... I'll bet you felt alone on some of those breaks. Well done.
Thank you!
Tasman mate, carrying 86 kg for 8 km is absolutely insane. Absolute legend bro!
Hahaha, thanks David 😂 anything for them gains eh 😉
Impressive effort. Good example for the young people and doing it solo is an achievement in itself.
Thanks mate!

Awesome vid, and well done on bringing all that meat out, epic carry. Love your guys vids, great humour, and full of adventure in great country.
Tasman, you are fierce and that was epic, a little insane, beautiful and very funny.
You really stepped up with the comedy, toughness and stamina, Arved should watch out.
And that shot of the falcon, amazing. It looked like a really beautiful hike (said from a couch with airconditioning on) right up to that magazine jam. Arved just had to be jealous. I loved this video.
😂 Thanks so much Paul, it was such a pretty spot :).
well done young lad good effort all round and a big onya for dragn carcasses out of the guts.. and yes i too have done the three for two deal and vowed never again...
Thanks mate! Yep, ain't making that mistake again!
Solid effort Tasman. That was one grueling walk out with a massive pack weight. Venison well earned.
Yep great solo video. Hopefully your body didn't take too long to recover from that.
Haha thanks Daniel, the freezer's definitely pretty full now.
Yeah around 5 days or so, a couple bruises on the lower back/hips, mostly sore calves actually.
Epic retrieval. Great watch. Cheers.
What a bomb up yum meat awesome bro
That was a bloody solid effort! Excellent stuff mate, enjoyed the video, the hunting ethics and the mammoth effort to cart that meat out 🤙

@@NZWildAdventures also I can’t believe the weight you moved, that is honestly insane. Strong mofo!
You will most definitely be doing that again bro 💯 well done on pushing through the pain 💪 you can see the exhaustion in your face freezer is full now bro.
Hahaha probably aye 😂 cheers for that!
That is bloody crazy! I would have taken the back steaks and maybe one back leg. I’m so impressed with how much you carried.
Haha cheers, 70kg of primo condition venison makes it all worth it though!
Well done, I take my hat off to you and you didn't waste meat...etics. love the allsorts, I would of needed a pack full lol

Fuuuuckin hell mate! Bloody great effort! Before you carried all the meat out, I read the comments below and everyone's saying that you carried out over 80kg for 8km....I was like nah really?? What?? Then I watched the whole thing and yep I'm just like every other comment below 😆 that censored part craaaacked me up! Keep up the good shit and hunt hard Brother!

Thanks Jody! Haha he was pretty nice aye.
Good work on your latest vid, great tahr 😁
Top effort. Good stuff mate 👍
I would have cried myself to sleep with half that load of meat! That was epic
I was too tired to cry 😂 thanks mate!
Great hunt man! Just found your channel. Enjoying it. Thanks for sharing mate!
Thank you, cheers for watching!
Bloody good effort mate well done
Cheers mate! The venison is so succulent
@@NZWildAdventures definitely is I just got lucky an got two fallow so steaks on
Bro that’s epic! Unreal carry man you are a legend! My jaw dropped at 70kg, Remember you only have one set of knees a lot of army dudes push too hard in there younger days and now can’t walk/ run. It’s ok to leave meat behind your doing NZ conservation a big favour, and do me a favour if you see a 40inch red shoot it your destined to be a trophy hunter 😂
Thanks mate, yeah next few trips will be taking it a it easier I reckon!
That was insane. Please invest in trekking poles. Your older you will thank you!!!
One hell of a carry! Awesome effort to carry that on your back 👊
Holy cow I can barely squat 80kgs
you bloody machine, well done. i'm laughing, us hunters can do some stupid shit. never say never bro
Thanks hahaha, it's all worth it in the end though aye mate
Nice one bro
What’s ya sound track by the way ?
Non-copyright tracks off YoutTube, lots of NCS releases and a few others which let us use their music for free. You can find the individual tracks in every video description :). Cheers for watching!
WHOA...... how you feelin *a month later lol.
Cool where's that
Would it not have been quicker going 2x, back and forth with 1/2 the load each?
Hi 😊, definitely considered it at the time! But with 8km each way and 800m elevation gain and loss, I probably would've taken at least an extra 6-8 hours.... both trips with over 40kgs, so I figured it wouldn't be worth it!
Tasman is manlier than me😢
😂
Awesome work mate but one comment, dont feel you have to have an 80 odd kg back pack out doing that to yourself will cause irreversible damage and if you still want to hunt when your 40+ keep the pack weight to 1/2 your weight max any thing over and your causing damage, back, legs, knee's and ankles cant take that weight, talk to old timers who use to carry out whole animals they will tell you it wasn't worth it
Thanks for the concern, definitely not going to make a habit of it!
