My son who passed away a few weeks ago at just 19 was a life long Metallica fan, and talented guitarist. He used to play Orion all the time, he also loved listening to it on vinyl. As we scattered his ashes yesterday we played Orion in his honour. Thank you Metallica for creating such a timeless masterpiece.

I admitted your point, but just for your information, with nowadays technology, all the instrument tracks are recorded isolatedly in the form of non processed direct injection (sorta sound like a clean tone) or raw processed signal (though I’m 100% sure which technique the Metallica crew use for the show). Thus, the sound from the crowd is probably separately recorded, and later put in the mix during the production of the live mix. Accordingly, the silence we hear may be just the intention of the producer to cut out the crowd’s noise. However, it is the result that matters, and the final production of their live show is great as always (not only to deliver the best sound of band but also to show the atmosphere of the live situation with all the audiences there).

Agree. And after 20 years of 'loving' this song I can say... thank you mankind for creating soundbars, headphones, earphones and other music devices with GREAT quality. After so many years, it's like a travel to the better sound of your beloved music. I remember my cassettes and when after each hearing, every time sound became a little worst. After two-three years it was so wasted.... In 2019 I just wish that Metallica some day will play Orion with the best drummer in the world and it will be recorded for the last perfect performance of Orion. Greet all.

i disagree, trujillo is a great player in his own right, just not a great fit for the style, in this song his sound is not complementary to the guitars, it just creates a muddy drone when the duet of guitars plays, unlike cliff’s version that actually creates a background of sound so the guitars flow into , and he plays as he likes the parts that are suppose to have a lot of clarity and detail, all the arpeggios are not played as original, overall i think ulrich also destroys this rendition with his lack of accuracy on the bass drum or lack therof, also addign fills at every step to cover his mistakes, in general their sound as. a band is bad, hard to understand for such big band, the guitars for example have almost no process added, no slight delay or effects such as compression or anything, at least is not apparent as they sound raw and the fact that kirk skill has been in decline doesn’t help either, it is very clear to hear many mistakes in his solos specially. They used to be good when times where not great, now times are great they just give a fak about their music, money and fame just destroyed this band.

MarkBass 96 i mean i agree with you, But music still is music. If you think about artists back in the day, they also focused on one main catch. Think the beatles, they basically wrote a catchy melody for 95% of the songs and then just repeated that. I dont think music is any worse now than it was then. I find, that especially pop is the best its been since the 80s/90s.

Every time James walks over and looks at Rob, it’s like a proud father watching his son. Rob plays this so well. I love how they pay homage to Cliff in this. Also, Kirk is just a pro’s pro on lead guitar. Hits every note every time. He is very underrated. He has said not a day goes by where he doesn’t play the guitar. For guy who’s been at it for 40 years, that’s pretty damn good. Incredible peace of music.

I want to reiterate that I owe a lot of my life to Kirk and without him I probably wouldn't have picked up the guitar, etc. This isn't me bashing him. Ok now, having said that...
I am not sure it's improvisation, it could be. However even if that's the case, he's super sloppy in almost every way. I am specifically talking about live concerts. The bends are very, very often out of tune. Some "improvised" notes sometimes are, although this is more uncommon, out of key. And, I don't know if you play guitar but there's an auditory texture when you don't fully press the string on the fretboard and/or when your fingers touch the ringing string by mistake and the sound comes out dampened or blunted in a bad way. It makes him sound very amateurish and sloppy. He does that also quite often. There's guitarists who do this for effect but it's usually for certain songs and certain genera.

Rapportus5 I agree with you hear. If you watch James’ foot he’s keeping time with Lars’ snare, and this song has an offbeat transition at the end of each section in the main riff. So I tried it and keeping a gallop downpick going while keeping time with lars’ snare isn’t fucking easy by any stretch of the imagination.

@Living In an Inverse Reality Aka Clown World its hard to say really. If we talk about Cliff, its about his style of playing, such as for whom the bell tolls live in green day '85 and anesthesia-(pulling teeth),he inspired so much bassist.that bass isnt just a rhythmic instrument but it can be a lead instrument as well such as in the call of ktulu and bass can also fill music such as in master of puppets and leper messiah, you get that fullness from the bass but now speaking about randy rhoads man its just how he helped to established another genre of metal and that is neoclassical and the way that he introduced a fast, technical yet melodic playing style just changed almost everything about metal,so speaking about music im gonna say its a tie because they've changed their respective instrument playing style

I was in 7th grade in my art class when I found out. There was a sense of loss even then among us, profound and unforgiving. People said he must have OD'd, but were immediately corrected with vague details of some kind of bus accident. Cliff never had the chance to see what his legacy would be from the stage, but I imagine he's singing with ancient musical legends on scales we have yet to hear...

Amen, metallica is what made music is today. People dont realize how music has developed. Without metallica there would be no diversity. You know why. The people you're watching didnt conform to the social norm. James lars and kirk love music and they appreciate music and the dynamic of the world. People listen to kill em all and them master of puppets original classics. Then listen to ONE and the NOTHING SE MATTERS this band is timeless. Lets not forget enter sandman aswell who else can have a degree of substance to sat that this band is if not the best 80's band to ever come to this planet. I want to challenge this person and say well my good friend have you ever experienced the best metal band that this face of the earth has have had the privelage to hear it is here and it is now!
