Just wanted to say thanks a million for this, I feel like there is so few high quality RUclips tutorials on Anglo concertina. So excited to learn this on my mcneela phoenix concertina!
Awesome videos bud. Not many videos of stuff being played in harmonic minor on here, nice difference. Would love a lesson your ‘once upon a December’ if you get the chance. Cheers from the UK 🇬🇧
Hi Luke, I love your videos! Thank you for sharing! I was wondering what concertina you use, I’m hoping to get myself a beginner concertina soon. Thank you!
Thanks Garrett! I have a Concertina Connection Clover: www.concertinaconnection.com/clover%20anglo.htm It's a great instrument; highly recommend getting one of their starter boxes. The Rochelle 2 is the best in its class.
i already play this tune on a cg concertina,i start this tune on the left hand so i must be on a different key,as i play on the left hand i don,t use chords like you do you ,do you use abc notation,in ireland where i live ,that,s mostly the way, unless with school going ,your way of playing seems like the english way and i prefer it on a lot of tunes ,i think i am dislyexic so i,m not quick enough to copy you, love your playing
If I'm playing just the melody, I start on the left hand too! The right-hand melody without the chords is just way too high for me; I get nasty looks from the neighborhood dogs.
Hi Luke, thanks for the videos. I also live in the bay area. I took up the concertina about two months ago. Are there any sessions that a newbie can join in on? I did find an old-time fiddle group at the Freight in Berkeley.
Hi David, congrats on the new concertina! I'm really bad at being on the actual scene. The only session I know about is an Irish one at the Starry Plough. There's also a concertina mailing list you can sign up for at groups.io/g/concertinaSF which organizes a meetup about twice a year. If you're interested in traditional English stuff, let me know if you'd like to check out Berkeley Morris. Our tunes are for the most part extremely accessible, and since you're playing for dance practice, you get LOTS of repetition in.berkeleymorris.org/
@@lukehillman Thanks Luke! Some folks at the Freight actually told me about the Starry Plough. I’ll sign up at Concertina SF. I still have a lot of work before I’m session ready but it’ll be good to get involved.
Good grief, and I'm usually pretty good at pronouncing things. Shameful! I don't have any Yiddish speakers over here to learn from. Video description has been amended to announce the correct pronunciation. If you want to send me a recording, I'll make sure to get it right if I ever post another recording of this tune.

@@lukehillman I live in Alameda so I’ll definitely take you up on that. Cheers!
Oy!!! You’re still mispronouncing it.
First syllable rhymes with “love.”
My grandmother would plotz!
But otherwise, great video.
