The long throw projectors are cheaper and I use one (for rear projection) but to give a very short throw I project it on to a mirror and flip the image so it's the right way round. I also use a screen set up bought as a green screen but you get a white curtain aswell plus stands and poles for £20 from eBay(huge result for £20) - the result was astonishing and I was surprised myself. The plan is to check out the cost of replacement bulbs before buying one because it turns out to be an essential piece of kit especially at birthday party's where you can charge extra for clients photos. Just a thought

you can get bare bulbs for a fraction of the price on aliexpress instead of buying the whole lamp module. It's very easy to change the bulb in the lamp module.

Hey Ellaskin what VJ software do you use? Is it Serato, Mixvibes, Resolume, VDMX? If you can, can you make a video giving us your thoughts on the software you use? Thanks again!!!

so I wouldn't bother with VGA, as it is an analogue signal, everything affects it, but if you choose to go that path I'd suggest an common earth between your source and projector, also don't run dimmer cables next to signal cables as this can cause hum bars. I would suggest having a digital system running DVI or SDI, digital systems are not affected by power differentiations, most laptops these days have a DVI out or an Display Port out. Also for your system to look awesome, you also might look at getting HD content, at least minimum 1920x1080, if your content is lower resolution, say 640x480, and you are putting it up on an HD projector, there will be upscaling involved so it will appear pixelated.

Francis Smith I do use the HD out, this will be featured in another video. Like all videos on one subject, you can go in to far greater detail and i hope to do so. thank you

the lamp in a projector are expensive, yes. Thing is though, with a good projector you can easily get 3000 to 3500 hours worth with it. Or to put it this way, you can watch over 1500 two hour length films before you have to replace the bulb. or do over 375* eight hour long gigs.
point is, the bulb will last quite a while. and the more you take care of it, the longer it will last.
*if you have every week one gig, you can last for over 7 years with one bulb. (375/52=7 and a bit)

Non vj here, I think that should work. But do consider the fact tv's are bigger and more vulnerable, require more space and may block the view between you and the audience. A lot of people want to see the dj doing stuff so that's not the smartest idea. Unless you buy/build a stand for your tv to stand in mid air behind you I dont see that work.
