  • Replacing an Old VDO Tachometer in 1966 VW sedan with a New Chinese made Tachometer. It's all plastic but looks and works great. Back lighting is very good. It weighs nothing and the aluminum mounting plate is held in place with 4 peaces of 3M double stick tape. No holes were drilled in the car dashboard.

    It is nice to meet Valerie. Nice Bug. I also name all of my cars and have a '68 Beetle. She's been here in the garage for two years now.. She's almost ready for the streets and would have been already. I've been a slacker. So many things were fixed or replaced and very few items are left to fix. I ran out of steam and motivation. She needs to be cruising the local back roads once a week. Sandi is her name. and Slacker is mine. (VW owner 40 years of about 12 VeeDubs).

      I'm sure if you get out in Sandi and stretch her legs you will find new motivation. Just installing the new tach makes me want to drive it. Every time I go someplace, even the grocery store someone makes a comment.

    Tach reads to 8000 rpm. A stock engine idles at 800-900 rpm and sees 3000 rpm frequently, yet that’s it! Lots of wasted real estate on this tachometer, eh?

      @@TheEZGZ I recently installed a temp gauge (oil) and I have the reverse issue. The scale only starts at 70C which I have yet to reach on an engine I have on a test stand (no load). So I purchased a digital gauge that claims to range from -15 to 100C, but as it is Chinese, it is quite erratic and is not reliable. Just some information I am sharing.

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ  Год назад

      Hey I appreciate your comment.
      Most gauges aren't very accurate. I think for me it just establishes a baseline to what is normal for my engine under normal temps and driving. If a poor quality instrument should be fairly consistent and if I see it moving higher or lower than that baseline it needs a closer inspection.
      The real problem is folks just won't pay for quality and the industry keeps manufacturing junk
