I'm fixing up an old 1969 beetle, for a clean daily driver. I'm really enjoying your videos. They're really well put together, and they help out a lot with taking a good approach to certain little components I've never worked on before.
Perfect video. I have a ‘69 that was originally that same green color, and the speedometer is in the exact condition of that one. Looking forward to cracking it open!
Howdy Mr. Dub Have you ever replaced a turn signal switch on a 69 Bug ? Do you know if the new one from whoever I buy from , if the wires are same color as the original colors in the car ? I see that the 69 is loose wires hanging and not a plug in . Hoping I could do it myself but me and wires don't get along too well . lol Thanks Bug GURU
@@JayDubCustoms Thanks I found it ! Wish you were closer I'd bring it to your shop and have a whole bunch of stuff done . Do you have a video on the shifter rod bushings front and back ?
There is a very small white mark on the edge of the dial at about 7:00. Point your needle to that white mark and then install and lift it over the stop. I did mine and it is very accurate.
This was exactly what I needed. Thanks for the clear and thorough review. I was hoping to find out how to install the needle but the odometer reset, view of the fuel gauge, clarity for how I can remove snd clean the dusty face and replace the gels were super helpful. I’m doing an electric conversion so I’m thinking of replacing the fuel gauge with a state of charge screen.
Excellent video. I need to replace the gels on my speedometer and give it a general cleaning. I'm sure your video will cut down on the amount of cussing and thrown tools. Thanks for making this.
The ring and glass look Nice! I was gonna ask, "what the heck you gonna use to replace the red and green gel?" Now I know you can buy any and all replacement parts.🤪😁
Have you ever done one from a 74 beetle. The needles is completely different and has a little brass weight behind it that Im not sure how to put back together.
@lutherolaco2996 I'm not really sure. I've never done that and I guess it would depend on how bad it is. Would probably require some soldering. Sorry I couldn't help.
@hideken_1966 I’m not sure on this one, but EMPI has a universal sender that is 10 ohms empty and 180 ohms full. I’d say the 2 are similar. People on the Samba are saying most are 8 to 70 range.
is this something I could have done by shipping my Speedo to you and having you go through it and ship it back? MIne only needs the lens replaced (plastic and scratched), but I figure better to have you go through the whole thing. Let me know if that is something you could do. Thank you. 1973 Type 1 Standard Beetle. (all stock)
Sorry for the late reply... just got back from SEMA. Yes, I could do that for you. Where are you located? I'll see if I have any good lenses. Send me a few pics of it to my email: jaydubcustoms@gmail.com
Very nice work and video Jay! I have a 1977 convertible that has an odometer that stopped. Also the needle wiggles just a bit. I’m looking forward to taking it apart as I now know what to expect. Please keep making these excellent video’s. I really enjoy seeing your precision working on things. I’d love to have you work on my beetle, but I live across the Atlantic…..
I have a speedo my buggy build it is complete, I will need to replace the film for the turn signals and Oil, Gen. The other issue I have is I do not have the original wiring harness so I do not have the bulbs and sockets to mount them into the speedo. Have you got a source for them? This is very informative, I now feel I can remove the bezel and clean it out inside
Thanks! There are several sources to get a wiring harness. JBugs, CIP1 and American Autowire are a few. www.americanautowire.com/shop/classic-update-kit-1962-74-volkswagen-beetle
Never seen your videos before, but very nice work.. Do you do full custom restorations? I'm looking for a shop to build me a top end Baja restomod.. I've been out of the Volkswagen scene for so long, I'm not sure who does that level of restoration anymore...Where are you guys located, I'm in Tennessee...
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you make the best how to videos that I have ever seen. You have the gift of teaching. Thank you.
Thanks Mike. I did 4 years Instructor duty in the AF. That probably helped. 😁

Thank you, glad it was helpful. I need to get back to making more videos.
I'm on my 69 also, California,
Good video and great explanations.
My speedo needs a little love and now I feel confident taking it apart.
Thank you. Glad I could help.

Goergous video! I’ll be restoring mine in the next week or so, thank you for being to the point on your resto!

The JBUGS website has a tech section that includes wiring a turn signal switch. Look under Videos + Tech Tips at the top of the page.

Very great tutorial, thanks for sharing.
Excellent video ,thanks for the help.
You’re welcome!
Nice job can you quote me a price for my 78 it's noisy and the neddle all over the place
What were you looking to get done on it?
@@JayDubCustoms well the speedometer is noisy and just broke the needle but the gas gauge appear to be working

There’s a few things you can’t buy. 🤨
Excellent vid. Any info on how to order a needle from speedo king?
Looked at the website but nothing on the needles and cost.
There's a phone number on there. Just call him. I think I paid him via PayPal and he shipped to me.
@@JayDubCustoms thanks. Great job on the instructions. Your vids are really good.

No, haven't done a 74. Did you get yours back together?
👍 Nice tips.
awesome
What about removing a 78 super beetle speedometer to replace a burned out generator light?
I've never done a 78. And I know there's a lot more stuff behind the dash of a SB. Just jump right in and keep track of how things are removed. 👍
Is there a way to fix the return spring without replacing it from another speedometer?
@lutherolaco2996 I'm not really sure. I've never done that and I guess it would depend on how bad it is. Would probably require some soldering. Sorry I couldn't help.
Please, can you tell me the scale (ohm) of the fuel gauge float of this speedometer?

He didn't set the last digit to zero. That means the mileage will be completely accurate.
