I find seeing someone do something a lot easier than having to read instructions. I always look too much into the instructions and thinking I'm doing something wrong. It's always a lot easier when you just do it!
Very informative video. I actually watched this video to see how to remove the Tach that was installed on my truck so that I can relocate to another spot in my c-10.
Wally Works on Stuff it went really smooth, the only Problem was finding the power as my electrical is a rats nest lol. It looks really cool but honestly it hasn’t been that useful, I still use my ear, I’m just so used to it
You Grow I Grow haha I know the feeling of electrical problems. I’m the fourth owner, and every single one has added their own stuff so there’s about a million wires going a million different places. And thanks for the info, I’d assume for the lights you just ran it off the same post as for the other gauge lights?
Thanks a lot for this! I have a 1985 Dodge D150 4 speed that needs one. It's only just rolled 26k original miles with zero rust and It's like a time machine inside. I really baby it although if I could find a well put together small block 360 I would consider taking out the original slant six and making it a fun truck.
The AC-Delco SI Series alternators came with an R terminal for tachometers. I have a 63 amp and a 100 amp on the shelf in the garage. Both have R terminals.
Was pretty sure how to go about this but as others have said, its nice to see some video of it. Luckily I preemptively bought a box of spade connectors so hopefully that will fit my hei. I bought pretty much the same autogauge/autometer but its black. Need mine to regulate that big block during burnouts lol Last show I was at I just hung her out there and said if she goes she goes.. I won so that was bonus. Plus im installing a new carb so id like to see what the idle is and be able to adjust. Thanks
Just bought one of the cheaper ones and the installation instructions tell you what the various functions are...after it's installed?! So thanks a bunch for this video. Also, if no one else has mentioned it, your tach was stuck on 1k rpm before powering up and then it worked right. Mine was stuck on 4k. Had to tap it pretty hard to move the needle. I thought it was defective.
Mega like! Thanks for sharing all i need to know to install it on my 54 chev 3100. Just for the same reason, to monitor how it runs at a higher speed in the hwy. Mega like!
Question-- I need a tachometer just for timing purposes. I don't want to install it inside my 1970 C10. I know about the tachometer connection on my HEI distributor. Since I just want to use it for when I'm under the hood, can I use the " battery " connection on the HEI and just unplug it after I'm finished? Thanks for your time---
There should be an extra port for illumination on your fuse panel. You can also just hook it to key on accessory or ignition and then it will light up when the key is on.
How u do it I can't find a video for that I have that to the msd box and the coil red little blaster thing that as a that one sparkplug wire going to distributor 🤔
It says on the instructions to setup a fuse for safety reasons or something did you happen to do that? Or just plug all the wires in like you did? Also do I need to purchase wire connectors for this?
Have 73 C10 installed an after market tech. Worked fine for several years now it's jumping around like crazy when I rev the engine. Checked the sending wire to the coil - it's secure. Checked other connections seem ok. Now what do? Thanks for your help.
I appreciate the video, but I have to ask. Why would you mount it there like that? why wouldn't you keep the clean look and mount the tach next to the speedo and reloacte the fuel gauge to one of the left 4 gauges? Just not sure why someone would want a big chunky gauge sticking out from somewhere is's not suppsoe to be.
I don't understand :( what actually measures rpm of the driveshaft? I mean, shouldn't we add something, a mechanical tool, that is directly attached to drive shaft?
The reading is caused by counting the sparks that happen out of the coil. They're directly related to the rotation of the crankshaft. You'd want to measure the driveshaft rpm if you were using a speedometer. If you notice the set of switches that can set the cylinder number in the back of the tach, that's how many pulses from the coil it knows to count before moving.
So where did you put the ground wire? Saw on the instructions it says "good engine ground". Does it have to be directly to the engine or could it be under the dash if the engine is grounded to the firewall with a groundstrap?
I am a beginner. You never said where you put the black wire. I'm guessing it was a ground wire and you just picked any old spot under the dash. Is that correct?
What if you have a GM HEI ignition but it's a coil mounted on the intake manifold and an ignition control module on the distributor? The cap is just for the plug wires and the plug wire going to the coil
Say I want my tach light on without needing to switch my other lights on, would I be able to feed the light (white) to the same place as the switched power (red)?
I have an hei distributor on an 89 f150 351w just newly carbureted and nothing on my instrument panel works other than the battery when it's running and charging. Got no oil pressure temperature speed or rpms.
hi, I have installed the exact same tach connected to a barrel ignition coil. my rpm spike when I press the gas pedal more than halfway. is there anyway to get an actual engine rpm reading that doesnt instantly spikes when the gas pedal is pressed
Question, because I just recently started messing with my 76 C10. What kind of plug do I use for the ports on that box? I'm not sure the technical term to look up for it.
I find seeing someone do something a lot easier than having to read instructions. I always look too much into the instructions and thinking I'm doing something wrong.
It's always a lot easier when you just do it!
I like the keep it simple approach to this video. I now feel confident enough to try installing a tach on my c10.
About as straight as you can get. Very informative and thank you.
Perfect way to show people how todo it, I have a classic mini and wanted to install a tacho, this gives me hope that I can do it with ease!
were you able to get it done?
Thank god i found this makes my life easier cuz i keep finding videos on newer vehicles
Very informative video. I actually watched this video to see how to remove the Tach that was installed on my truck so that I can relocate to another spot in my c-10.
I’m calling it right now, this is going to be his most popular video.
Not even close
You were right
Thank you very helpful you will be surprised how many people actually show you what you just showed cause many don't thanks again
Working on a 1971 F-100. I feel weird not knowing what RPM I'm at. Getting that changed! Thank you so much for helping tutorial!
Never knew they were that simple to fit :)
Great Video bud very informative straight to the point just as it should be thanks
Thank you! This video was straight forward and made it easy.
cheers for the video mate, appreciate the straightforwardness of the video
Just straight to the point. Wish every video I look up is like this
im literally about to install this same tach in my 1951 3100, thank you for the informational video!!
How’d it go? I’m looking to install a tach in my ‘49 3100. Want to see how she runs other than by ear
Wally Works on Stuff it went really smooth, the only Problem was finding the power as my electrical is a rats nest lol. It looks really cool but honestly it hasn’t been that useful, I still use my ear, I’m just so used to it

Thank you for covering the instructions too ! Great video 🎉
Just started my 1970 torino 351c and this vid helped me thanks a lot
Dang I got me a 68 torino, trying to get it going I would love to install a tach in the dash while making it look stock
Thanks a lot for this! I have a 1985 Dodge D150 4 speed that needs one. It's only just rolled 26k original miles with zero rust and It's like a time machine inside. I just bought a 72 d100 with a 360
came here for the same truck, 85 d150 it’s an auto tho 74 thousand miles
After watching this I'm feeling confident in my ability to install a tach in my '72 El Camino

Very well explained 👍👍👍
Thank you so much.
Absolutely love your channel name... 😆💯
Good video adding tach to the 58 Bel Air.
Thanks Mr big help from your video 👍now I'm gonna go install from Guam 🇬🇺
Thanks for the great, easy to follow, video!
Nice; just the video i needed; makes it simple; thanks !!!!!
Perfect explanation for a guy who needs to break in a new cam and knowing rpm is crucial.
Gonna guess that guy is you 😂
Great to the point video.
Thank you for the help

good presentation, especially on the wiring... directions i got said green to sensor ? thanks mister !!
Beauty truck man!!! I have identical blue truck love it!!
Where does a guy find the 5 clearance lights you have on your 78’chevy?

Glad i have an hmi on my 71 C10 the rest should be easy. Thanks brother.
Love the vid, helped out a lot!
Does the same procedure apply for tachometer instalment on motorcycle.
Great video, thanks
How did you mount it? What kind of bracket did you use
Thanks for sharing! 👍
Thanks! Will suit my fiat 850 now
THANKS WELL DONE VERY HELPFUL
Thank you 👍
Great video
Did you happen to mention where the white wire was hooked up at for the lights? lol..I like your channel name. I feel the exact way!
There should be an extra port for illumination on your fuse panel. You can also just hook it to key on accessory or ignition and then it will light up when the key is on.
@@FuelInjectionSucks Thank you!
I have both an msd box and that cylinder msd blaster 2. So I still plug it in on the box for the green wire? Thanks!!
How u do it I can't find a video for that I have that to the msd box and the coil red little blaster thing that as a that one sparkplug wire going to distributor 🤔
The bastard never replied to u🤔😄✌️
I,like ur video...clear and noted...thanks so much broo😃
Great video not sure if you discussed the black ground wire? To the battery? The chassis?
To the closest ground point possible. Never wire anything directly to the battery unless the directions require it.
It says on the instructions to setup a fuse for safety reasons or something did you happen to do that? Or just plug all the wires in like you did? Also do I need to purchase wire connectors for this?
Thanks for posting this. What is the name of your shop in Allentown? I have a 69 f100

good stuff

Just not sure why someone would want a big chunky gauge sticking out from somewhere is's not suppsoe to be.
I think i blew my tach, I was doing a compression test and didn't unplug my tach, now it doesn't work, just bumps a little, is that possible?
What about gm singel coil E core type ? That thing has 4 pins how wire tach to that thing?
I wonder if my 76 k10 has those ports in the fuse box
I don't understand :( what actually measures rpm of the driveshaft? I mean, shouldn't we add something, a mechanical tool, that is directly attached to drive shaft?
Not really, it's not important unless you are doing ridiculous high speeds or have a vehicle with a known weak driveshaft. Engine RPM's are critical.
Thanks bud subscribed
I hope this works in my 1980 Toyota corona
Thank You!
So where did you put the ground wire? Saw on the instructions it says "good engine ground". Does it have to be directly to the engine or could it be under the dash if the engine is grounded to the firewall with a groundstrap?
Any ground will work for the black ground wire.
Hello Bud Question for you does the Tachometer have a 4,6 or 8 cylinder setting? I know other devices do have that option
Yes. It would come on with ignition.
Is there a similar tacho to this one but that shows up to 10k rpm?
I have an hei distributor on an 89 f150 351w just newly carbureted and nothing on my instrument panel works other than the battery when it's running and charging. Got no oil pressure temperature speed or rpms.
What are your RPMs in that truck at highway speeds?
I can’t find the illumination plug on the fuse box on my 81 c10 any ideas?
hi, I have installed the exact same tach connected to a barrel ignition coil. my rpm spike when I press the gas pedal more than halfway. is there anyway to get an actual engine rpm reading that doesnt instantly spikes when the gas pedal is pressed
Nice
Dumb amateur question, what do you use to connect the wires into the fuse box? Have an 80 Silverado. Is their a connector or what works best?
Yeah when i keep mine under 2 or 2 Cruises AND dont kills the Fuel as fast as fast
Question, because I just recently started messing with my 76 C10. What kind of plug do I use for the ports on that box? I'm not sure the technical term to look up for it.
Which box?
@@FuelInjectionSucks Around the 5:15 mark. That interior fuse panel.
@@BanCorporateOwnedHouses It's a female spade connector.
@@FuelInjectionSucks Thank you! Total noob thing, I know, but we all start somewhere.
Do you get vapor lock on your truck
No, not at all.
Brother do you know if there is any 45-48mm tachometer of max 10k rpm. I want to use it in my old CI bullet
So I have a 6.2 diesel how do I do this?
What if u rev to 12k
Blessing so simple thank learn very quickly blessing 😏
the one I bought came with a similar diagram... but it has a green, and 2 blacks and 2 reds... lol
Are u kidding me. You have to watch multiple adds before the video now !
Buy some radio knobs too.
Why is it reading about 700 rpm right out of the box?! Not even zeroed.
I'm trying to put one in my 75 f100
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I wanna put one on my 66 mustang
FernandoVids u mean 67
Grassy Plays no lol
Where's Winnie?
About 15 feet from me currently
Haha cool ,I'm so looking forward to seeing her run and drive
I have a 1991 F250 want to be more economic than 7mpg with shifting of i could get to 10mpg amazing 🥲 lol
Great video
How do you change your red line on this tach ?
