Rush had a task ahead of them following the success of 2112. A Farewell to Kings did a good job in handling that success, but often times gets a bit overlooked. Lets talk about it.

This is one of my absolute favorites by the band along with Hemispheres and Permanent Waves. :)
A farewell to kings is a prog rock classic. I like it even better than 2112. Hemispheres is my favorite rush lp but this isn't far behind it. Great review cover killer!
XANADU is the crowned jewel of this album in my opinion.
One of the best songs ever written in my opinion. Drumming guitars and bass never sounded so good. Slash ripped off the opening riff for sweet child of mine I think lol. My dad always mentions that every time he listens to this song lol
I'm a huge Rush fan I've even got them tattooed on me and Farewell to Kings if my personal favorite.
You should review Hemispheres!

Nice review. This album happens to be my personal favorite. It's just them at their best. It's such an atmospheric work. It is art.
A Farewell To Kings is hands down their best in my opinion. I'm eagerly awaiting the rest of the discography review, especially Signals, I'm interested in what you'll think of it.
Hoping to see my favorite 70's Rush album, Hemispheres, next. Then onward to my favorite era of Rush, Permanent Waves to Power Windows.
A Farewell to Kings is my favorite Rush album and one of my all time favorites. Cinderella Man and Madrigal are both underrated songs.
I think the thing I love the most about this album is that Alex' and Geddy's tones really took center stage. The guitar tones were toned-down as it were to project a more natural sound. And Ged's Rick finally sounds like a Rick.
Case in point: "Cygnus X-1", that is a great Rickenbacker tone.
CKN! you have to complete the Rush discography!!!! i understand the hiatus but you cant leave without finishing Rush!!!!

Farewell to kings is my favorite Rush album, but I love all their works.
Both Closer to the Heart ane xandadu are still my favorite rush songs. So yes a Farewell to Kings is still to this day my favourite Rush Album and has been since its relise.
I'm really loving these reviews, I'm a huge Rush fan and agreeing with all of these points. But man, it's going to be like October by the time you get to like Vapor Trails even, but keep em coming still lol. Many people I don't think can fully appreciate Rush
Alchemist7000 For some reason people seem to only really look at from 2112 to signals but Rush is soooo much more then those 6 albums every album they did has merit and most of them are classics
Corey Crossman It's easy to dismiss Rush as this dorky synthy 70's rock band, but if you look at the range of music they made over the decades it dwarfs anybody else's careers. The fact that their latest album Clockwork was actually one of their best and holds up to 2112 and the rest just still makes my head spin. I can't think of another band that has done that.

although i have never called this album my favorite rush album, it's the one i listen to the most...

Can't say I'm much of a diehard Rush fan, but this is probably their best album.
If i had to complain, i would say that the drums weren't loud enough.
i love 2112 but i’d rather take farewell to kings personally i think that there are more songs i like on it
Its a great album but to me it feels incomplete without Hemispheres.
lol if you think a farewell to kings is a deep cut in there discography what are you going to say about hold your fire, presto and test for echo lol anyway a farewell to kings is great I feel like as far as the songs go there is a couple less memorable ones on here I think the band was starting to run out of ideas when it came to strait up rockers which is fine but xanadu is one of the best songs of all time, closer to the heart is the best melodic track of the 70's just inching out fly by night and cx1 book 1 is amazing as well and acts as a great opener to hemispheres so all and all still a solid 4 out of 5 album

I think farewell to Kings is way better than 2112
Cygnus X-1 is better than all the songs on 2112 put together
Huge Rush fan here as well. Don't get me wrong, I love intellectually stimulating people and having conversations with these people, but it seems very likely that if you or I were to sit in a room with this guy and try to have a conversation, he'd be talking over you because he just likes to hear himself talk and your only purpose is to serve as his audience. Not really big on that.
