CKN Reacts to NEIL PEART (RUSH)'s Retirement From Music

  • Neil Peart has announced his retirement from music. The legendary RUSH drummer manned the skins for the progressive giant for more than 4 decades and also served as a lyricist. While this is a sad day for some, it should be a celebration day, since Neil knew when to walk away. Its nice to celebrate a legend's retirement for a change, instead of mourning a musician's death.
Neil, best wishes to you and your family! Hope to hear from you soon.

Rush is the band that introduced me to music and my all time favorite band so this is sad but I'm also happy to see them go out on a high note.

I had no idea Neil retired from music! I am grateful to have seen Rush in 2010; easily the best concert I have seen. Keep up the awesome work

Saw them in 2012 in Phoenix with my dad. He saw them 3 times before that. I finally got to see my favorite band in concert and they recorded it for the Clockwork Angels live album that was released the next year. It was amazing and to this day I'll always cherish the moment of seeing Rush, the first band I ever heard in my life with my dad. A truly wonderful father son moment

I definitely respect your choice on praising Rush for what they have done for so many of us. My second favorite band of all time. Good video, I do hope this comes across to them.

They have brung in drumers to fill before. I saw them play at a venu of 20 ppl. I was so excited.... Than i saw 2 seperate drum sets on stage and my heart sank because i knew Neal wasnt coming. It takes two men to fill his drum seat. Hes been #1 since the 50's. It was only a matter of time before his age would force him to put the sticks down. With a bar that high to reach that was set in his 20's im suprised it didnt happen sooner. Nuce to see him put the stucks down before someone superseded him. His beats will live forever for that i am greatful!

I'm a bit sad to see the man go (and probably take rush with him) but like you said,we do have a big pile of great music with awesome drumming and awe inspiring lyrics. Thank you Neil Peart for all the amazing music and good on you to retire in your own time and at your own pace.

    "I'm happy for him"
That's a sentiment very rarely expressed by media people whenever a musician retires, band breaks up, etc. I'm bummed I never got to see them live, but it's his life to live and it's ridiculous to get on Peart's case after everything he's accomplished.

Just learned that Neil isn´t throwing in the sticks just yet - which is really great. I´m not too impressed with their live shows lately, but as evident by Clockwork Angels, Rush is still able to make amazing music.

Geddy clarified Neil's statement by saying that Neil meant that he's retiring from touring, not the band as a whole.

From what I have read in Prog Magazine, Neil wants to "retire" from touring, not from making music. He's quit before when his daughter and his wife died, but then he returned. I think we'll see another Rush album.

Rush IS Geddy, Alex, and Neil. They are the band. As they've said before, there is absolutely no replacing anyone in the band. If one quits, they all quite. We don't need to worry about a replacement drummer.

Because they say Purt like the shampoo purt plus? Lmao. I seriously doubt thats why, after all if it botherd him he could have corrected it when they first said it wrong... Your saying he waited what 65 years to get mad? Thats a seriouse delay in reaction! For the record, and i say this in honor of Neal to hopefully get him to keep playing "its not pronounced Purt like the shampoo Purt Plus but its Part like Part your hair". Now cross your fingers that everyone reads this thread... I am saying it right, right. Oh man.

Saw them in Hamilton, Ontario on the Clockwork Angels Tour and Toronto on the R40 tour. So glad I had the chance to see them live twice. All three of them inspired me to pick up the bass, drums and guitar. This band means so much to me and it sucks that its all over. What a run though.

Thats the thing. If putting out a New LP they have to tour with it to make the Money back. Far to many Free Downloaders Or RUclips uploaders as soon as the album is out. It comes out and its all over the net in Minutes. As for Neil stepping away from Music I can see it more stepping away from Touring as a Drummer. But i cant see Neil stopping drumming as a Sideline. The odd gig with Jazz Bands etc

    My reaction is typical.
The fan in me is obviously selfishly pissed at Neil. Don't retire you jackass! KEEP PLAYING!
The realistic human being in me is happy for him, because he's more than earned it. He's been the inspiration for musicians across the globe.
Then the optimist in me is hopeful that he just needs a good long break and Rush will be back for at least one more tour. It's a glass-half-full thought, but honestly, it's not improbable.
