    This is how i have been tying this knot for the last 3 years by far best and easiest way to tie it in the field or on a rocking boat. I stop a 14 weaves and have tremendous confidence in the strength of the knot. One tip i can give you is make your leader tag a little longer and hold both the main leader and the tag leader in your hands loosely while tightening the rizutto. This helps the rizutto tighten parallel with the fg and you don't get that little kink in the end. Awesome vid keep it up.

If you want to try the method with the hitches a lot of people will go 6 alternating over the braid and leader, then trim the leader, then another 6 alternating just on the braid and then the rizutto finish I do here. This method with the rizzuto finish is the least smooth and streamlined going through the guides becaause the end of the leader is left exposed creating a big bump. Other methods use hitches tied in the braid adjacent to the end of the leader to create a smoother transition.

      12lb fluoro is very thin, you'd probably be better off with a different knot such as a double uni. The FG is for joining thinner braid to much, MUCH heavier mono (like 40lb braid to 80lb mono).

    Just having terrible time getting the FG knot. I can tie a beautiful Alberto, double uni, blood not etc but I just can't get this knot. Is it mainly for very heavy fluoro to heavy braid? Practicing with PE 3 braid and fairly stiff mono maybe 30-40 lbs. Tried Briggsy's FG knot and actually got to the risutto stage but the leader pulled right out like a Chinese finger cuff toy. Tried your method, which looks easier but couldn't even manage the bridge part properly. I should say I'm 60 years old and have a fair amount of arthritis in my hands. Also have a bum shoulder so don't plan on going after 40 kilo class tuna, GT etc. Also giving up casting big lures and big weighted baits from the beach. Mainly planning on sight fishing mahi mahi and bottom fishing for reef species but need to be ready for the opportunity of a 10 to 15 kilo fish. Do I really need the FG given these limitations/parameters?

    Would it not be better to tension the FG knot first and then do the Rizzuto Finish knot? Or does it make any difference?

    • @Deanobravio
      @Deanobravio  3 года назад

      With this method I find it best to tension the rizutto first so the wraps have something to tighten up against. Another variation would be to tie one half hitch, then tighten the wraps and then tie a rizutto up against the half hitch 👍

    • @kentait2990
      @kentait2990 3 года назад +1

      @@Deanobravio I would think you DO NOT want the wraps to tighten up against anything. You want them to cinch down on the leader with nothing hindering that! One or two half hitch allow the wraps to be virtually free and thus able to squeeze down on the leader. The rizzuto then just finishes off the knot.

    • @Deanobravio
      @Deanobravio  3 года назад

      @@kentait2990 totally mate, but if you've ever tied an FG you'll understand you can't just pull the wraps up tight with nothing. There must be a half hitch or rizutto for the FG to work. I encourage people to find a way that works for them and use that. This is just the way that works for me, has never failed and has caught me plenty of worthy fish 👌 tight lines 🎣🐟

  • @Stakeouttoo
    @Stakeouttoo 3 года назад +1

    a good one.. nice version of the FG.. I still finish mine with a couple of half-hitches and a double half-hitch rather than complicate it even more with what you did that to me makes it 'bulky' not smooth.. just my personal preference

    • @Deanobravio
      @Deanobravio  3 года назад

      Yeh thats fair. What most people do is 6 half hitches over the leader and braid, trim the leader, then 6 half hitches over the braid only, and then finish with a Rizutto finish as I do. This method simplifies all of that to just the Rizutto finish. I encourage people to tie it the way that works for them 👍 tight lines 🎣🐟

    Quick & Easy no not at all, is it efficient, sure. And if at home and you have the time and the dowels with you to tie it this way great, however I could still see tag end from the mono sticking out at 6:24 which means it will get caught up in your guides or even on your spool. I'll stick with the half hitches so it smoothly covers the leader material.

      Using this method, the knot can easily be tied under a minute, even on a boat. Obviously for the tutorial it takes longer because of the explanation. Tight lines 👍

    Still looking for an easier way to do it with lighter leader...like 12 pound test. Only way I can get it to work is by keeping a lot of tension on the leader, too.

    • @Deanobravio
      @Deanobravio  4 года назад

      This method doesn't need tension. Trust me, with so many people struggling to tie FG in light line it is one of my next videos, but at the moment suffering with a broken finger 👍

    • @sgib199
      @sgib199 4 года назад +1

      Absolutely Knot hope your finger is doing better! I will certainly watch your video when you do it, as lighter mainline likes to get kinked by the braid wrapping around it until there are several wraps. I did actually succeed with another method that keeps it pinched between the fingers the entire time. No tension on either line. But still want to find the best way for me. :)

    While it may be the best knot on earth, for my fishing needs I have yet to be disappointed with a well tied polymer knot. I'm not looking to place my name in any record books and when fishing in a tournament, I don't have time to tie this knot in short a amount of time and get back fishing while the bite is hot. I can tie my knot quickly and efficiently and with a quick look know that it has been tied the right way.

    • @Deanobravio
      @Deanobravio  5 лет назад +2

      The FG is a leader connection knot, the palomar knot is typically tied directly to the hook or other terminal tackle. I'd love to hear if you're using it otherwise?
