Dustin Penner it was an attempt at humor, my writing skills match my woodworking skills. You do great work and pick cool projects. You make it look so easy, I thought I'd give it a try. Lets say it wasn't the result I would've liked. Ever try reverse engineering lumber back into a tree? Thats what I claim my various attempts of woodworking are, to justify my results.
I'm impressed that you managed to make a 7 minute long video that people are actually willing to watch to the end! This is beautiful work, and the video is well made.
You make it look so easy with all your fancy equipments which I've never seen in my life😉 I don't even know how i came here when i was only looking for diy on painting my kitchen cabinets. But it was awesome to watch this unlike other videos who talks a lot for making stuffs which would have taken lesser time. I just watched a video for around 20 minutes for repainting cabinets
I've been watching some of your videos and I love your craftsmanship. I've been telling my wife and friends how inspiring these videos are that I myself want to do some wood working as a hobby. Thank you for video and keep up the good work.
I'd rather ORDER this than make it. I know it's fun making it, but I don't have the tools to. Buying the tools would be more costly than buying the finished product. But your craft screams for respect! Great work sir!
Best video I've seen in a long time, well Directed with fast sound of the equipment, but not annoying like some videos .. this work what they call it "professionally done" ..
Thank you for showing us your skills, your equipment and the skill to edit your video, but I think it is impossible to learn how to do your project. But it was enjoyable to watch
Hey Dustin thanks for the post been a long time subscriber can you do a shop tour. Love the to see the setup. I have a garage and a half workshop so everything I have needs to be portable. I really enjoy watching your videos however I don’t have a CNC machine but I have most tools. Next pour has is going to be a bandsaw. Thanks really enjoy your builds. Would like to see you and jimmy diresta make something together. I’m also a fan of Alex Snodgrass
This is sooo awesome but I just wish that the compartment was larger. Could you possibly do this same idea but instead of having the compartment on the side, you could have a longer version of the compartment on the bottom of the box?
+tittiesprnkles I would open this box with a sledge hammer, including the secret compartment! No wooden box, secret or not. I have ever seen, resists a good few heavy swings with a 14 lb sledge!!
But why would you break the box? It's not locked. You can open it and go through it's content without doing any work. Unless you know there is a secret compartment and can't improvise a key you have absolutly no reason to destroy it. Except if you really want to be a jerk toward the people you're stealing from... but even then I think someone would notice you breaking in with a sledgehammer or hear you swinging that ridiculous thing inside the house. Not to mention the fact that your hit would probably destroy the contents of the secret compartment.
+Thomas Pettier "Unless you know there is a secret compartment and can't improvise a key you have absolutly no reason to destroy it." Look at the last minute of the video. 6:40 shows the box's bottom and you can see that the "secret panel" doesn't match flush with the grain of the wood. That's no mistake he made as he made sure to label all the pieces and cuts he made through the video. At 7:15 when he's done with the wood polish (or whatever it was, because it wasn't almonds), you can see it even MORE clearly that there's something that doesn't match flush with the bottom. These clearly give away the fact that something's not right with it and practically yells "THERE'S SOMETHING SECRET HERE AND MOST LIKELY VALUABLE". Sure, you can argue "Oh I'll just make sure it's flush and then nobody will see it" or whatever. I would imagine that the person making this video would have thought of that and wouldn't go and make rookie mistakes and show it off in the video. Not only would that be bad on him, but it would also be passing around the rookie mistakes.
Tess Verres It's obvious there is a secret compartment and a hatchet would make short work of this box. No need to work out how to open it, just spilt it apart with the axe.
After all that time, quality craftsmanship, cost of wood and equipment, effort and the skill involved, how much is this worth? I would pay easily $300, but I was thinking it might be worth more.
That's a great box and a nice project. Personally, I would have enjoyed it more if you made it a two part video and kept it at regular speed. For me, it was difficult to follow. Maybe I'm too old for this! :-) But again, a great project!
Great video. I couldn't work out what the rod with the gold disc was for. Pardon my ignorance, I'm new to this. I'm definitely trying to make one of these.
if i were to break into a house n i saw that beautifully hand crafted box id probably take it lol. even tho i wouldn't find the real goodies hidden within lol
I am sure this is already out there, and I probably saw it somewhere and just don't remember...but an AWESOME hiding place is putting a RAISED bottom in one of your deep drawers. Bathroom for example. Normally, the drawer at the bottom is deep. Well, raise the bottom up by 2 inches (leaving the existing bottom in place), which creates a 2" hidden compartment that would never be discovered. Cool video, thanks!
I was thinking about adding a false bottom on this one to hide the hole or store the key. What I'd really like is to store the key in the other leg but I haven't come up with a clever way to do that. I'm open to suggestions!
I really like your idea of hiding the hole with a false bottom. Maybe add a magnet to the other end of the key that will assist in getting the false bottom out? Weaker magnets holding the bottom in place, and a really strong REM in the key to pop the bottom out. To hide the key, maybe cut 1/2 the solid end off, screw in 2 shoulder bolts so that the fit is tight when slid back together, and use a Keyhole router bit to cut a slotted hole...like the router bit that you would use to make the slot in the back of a picture frame to hang on the wall. Then, carve out just enough between the slots to fit the key. Attach another magnet in there so it doesn't want to rattle around? You would need to be very precise on the slots compared to the screws so that it stops exactly in place. Creep up on it. Your wood is so figured that you would never see that the end is cut in half and rejoined.
Maybe a better idea....remake the key out of the same wood as the ends, and use strong rare earth magnets to hold it to the top to resemble a top handle? Make it in two halves that come apart to reveal the pin...or make the pin stick into the top when on the lid as the handle...by drilling a small hole partially though the lid, but NOT all the way through.
I would love to see a step by step on how to build this with a table saw and router. (because I have those tools) but it would be a really interesting video
Check out my other video with a voice over or go to my website to get the plans. Easy enough. I think I even included links in the description. Anything else?
Deborah Durham two options! You can enter the contest I have going on right now to win one like this, or you can get the plans on my website and build one for yourself. Either way, thanks for watching!
I would argue that it's easier to build things when you live with your parents since they cover all the other costs. You could build this box with $200 worth of equipment off CL.
Just for the record, all modern finishes are food safe, once cured. The idea of "salad bowl finish", for instance, is the manufacturers having a field day with you.
+Dustin Penner fair enough, but most other finishes are food safe within hours. I guess if you have an emergency in which you need to build a box and fill it with food immediately, say, for an air drop or something ... ;)
I'm new to woodworking and want to become a luthier. I'm currently an autobody tech. Could you tell me the name of that round scribe tool you have that thing is awesome? Thanks and thank for the great video.

haha! Thanks!
Awesome craftsmanship, no fluff, no talk, just an overall excellent job.
This should definitely be on the Weekly Woodworking Wrap Up Review this week!
My first WWWR project was walnut and cherry. Let's start a trend!!
That, good sir, is a plan!! :-D #walnutcherrylove
Nice work! I would have made the other side a fake bottom just so both looked the same. Just a thought..
That is wonderful .
So nice to see a craftsman at work
All the click clack sounds throughout the video were amazingly satisfying. Also loved the finished product

+Sergio Leyva you won't regret giving woodwork a try! Thank you very much.
Im officially jealous of your skill level, I've done woodworking for years and couldn't do work like that
Nice, my savings would fit in to the box, the small one of course!
Fun project; I enjoyed seeing the various techniques and geometry come together.
Very nice!!! If I may suggest, you may create a special place inside the box for the pin that is needed to open the secret compartment.
I'd rather ORDER this than make it.
I know it's fun making it, but I don't have the tools to.
Buying the tools would be more costly than buying the finished product.
But your craft screams for respect! Great work sir!
+Diggy J I have one for sale on my website at the moment. Not like this one, it's my second design. Thanks!
Impressive. Like how well that spring works.
*Started video
"Psssh.. 7 minutes? I'm not going to watch this whole thing."
I watched the whole thing.
+True 77 Exactly how I felt haha
Aside from the top notch craftsmanship the best part of these vids are the machinegun hammering!! 🤣🤣🤣 Love it!!!
инструменты - просто мечта *-*
с такими инструментами все возможно
wasn't expecting much, but was pretty much blown away. Good video
Nice neat practical box. Imagination in finish and design improves security but may also increase interest of the opportunist thief.
That's a neat storage box. When I get a woodshop set up, I may have to borrow your idea.
I'd love to see pictures when you're done. If you need any clarification on certain parts feel free to ask b
Sweet! Like the pin hinges you used, good idea!
Best video I've seen in a long time, well Directed with fast sound of the equipment, but not annoying like some videos .. this work what they call it "professionally done" ..
Thank you very much! That means a lot to me since I strive to make them look professional and am a complete amatuer! Thank you for watching!!

For some reason, watching this video is a pure pleasure.
Thank you for showing us your skills, your equipment and the skill to edit your video, but I think it is impossible to learn how to do your project. But it was enjoyable to watch
No that is a crazy attitude! This is a simple box to build. It just takes effort and time!

This is someone who definitely paid attention in woodshop!
I was a horrible student! Thank you very much regardless!
Pl
@@dpmakestuff but now you're the teacher. Lol. 👍
Definitely didn't pay any attention to the safety rules! OMG that was scary to watch!

Incredible Precision. Looks great.

Trey Dolente I have been working on a plan for a pirate treasure related box with a secret compartment.
Another great box design. You are really good at this!
+Jack Bench Woodworking Thank you!
Nice Contraband hiding spot! lol Sweet box.
+Rocky Constable Thanks!

+Arjen Na 👏👏👏👏👏
Even the wood used in this video is worth more than 10 Bucks
You're a jackass. Just leave the conversation if you don't know what you are talking about.
This one is priceless. It was made with wood that belonged to a friend of mine who passed away.
6:36, most satisfying noise ever.
Frosty Neon check out my small brass box video.
Fantastic idea and execution.
Okay, making that stash is on my Bucket List!
Woaw! what a dizzy speed, but very exciting.
thank for sharing your how to.
i've to do right now.
thank for inspire me ,bro.
I will give you an A+ 4 Construction but I am Green With Envy because of your access to all those tools
Very cool. i secret stash box for your boo. You are a master wood worker.

i always wondered what it would look like if superman was a carpenter hahaha, nice work...very nice work,
That 2 an awesome build!! Thanks for sharing

MP Woodworking Fantastic!!! Idea "The key is the handle" Then other holes(as if they were needed) to hide the fact of the pin.
Looks so simple almost anyone could do it!
Very cool dustin. I've always wanted to make something like that
I like the project but would love to have all of the tools he used to create it.
Nice Shop Man
Thanks. The tools make it faster and easier, but I built the first one with basically a tables saw and a router.
I would love to see a step by step on how to build this with a table saw and router. (because I have those tools) but it would be a really interesting video
Sweet ! Are you still selling this one? It doesn't seem to be available on your website at the moment. I enjoyed watching your craftsmanship.....Tkx.
+R Mose I dont have any like this for sale, but I have the second style available right now. Very limited. Thanks
Cool box. Wish you would have had more information on it. Measurements would have been nice. Good job though.
Check out my other video with a voice over or go to my website to get the plans. Easy enough. I think I even included links in the description. Anything else?
Very cool! Beautiful as well.
loved it... i would make one if i had all those stuff... but really loved it
I applaud your genius, I wish I could just purchase that!
Only little tiny compartment box is enough to hide anyone secret(s) ;) lol...Really nice & neat job Dustin Penner (Y)
It is enough to hide a 252gb memory card....
Man,your works are damn good...
I really like this. Where can I get a box like this one.? Wonderful video how to and wonderful box . Thanks!
Deborah Durham two options! You can enter the contest I have going on right now to win one like this, or you can get the plans on my website and build one for yourself. Either way, thanks for watching!

I would argue that it's easier to build things when you live with your parents since they cover all the other costs. You could build this box with $200 worth of equipment off CL.
reminds me of the secret compartment in my old school pencil case in school
Cool idea!
Very beautiful! What's the tool you are using to score the edges of the pieces? It kind of looks like a door knob on one end.

Thanks Dustin
You should do a shop tour and how did you put the router table on your tablesaw? Because I would like to do the same dose it have dust collection
Evan Stovall I was waiting for someone to suggest it before I did a shop tour. Expect it in the future.
+1 on the tour please
Nice work. I'd love some commentary. What is the wax stuff you are using? How does the mechanism work?
Ryan Scott I have a video that's has commentary, most details are in the description and if you can't understand how the mechanism works after watching the entire video I'm not sure I can help you.
The fast forward is great
Beautiful, and a looot of work though.. but worth it.
Great build!
Wow, where did you learn to work that fast. Did you start slow and work up to this speed? How long did it take you? I want to be fast like you!
Jeff Miller he sped the vid up
Lol
That's so cool! Beautiful.
Thanks, eine wirklich bezaubernde Idee. Muß ich unbedingt nach machen. Obst so perfekt wird wie bei dir?
Beautiful 1930s style box.
Thank you.
what was the finish you used at the end? saw that it was not in a store bought container, what were the components? the finish was beautiful
Home made stuff. Details in the description. Thanks!
Wow that is an awesome box!
+MrHollick Fancy seeing you here =O
+TheBlackBeltPanda Yep the internet is an interesting place!
+MrHollick why don't you upload very often?
The fact that this video is almost eight minutes and is sped up, just goes to show how long this took. I'd honestly much rather just go buy one...
it's a bit to fast, but it's still super awesome. You should sell this on line beacuse i don't have enough of those power tools. I would probably buy it if you did.
Beautifully brilliant.
Cool ideas.
nice work i leave a thumpup if u can make it with the tools everyone has at home ;)
Tablesaw and a drill is all you need.
Outstanding. Thanks for posting.
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
This is one awesome video and project. Jeff
I'm so jealous about Your workshop equipment :D
Wow cool dude, and the stop motion with the sound is top quality, which software did you use?
Opening theme from Brain It On. Is that downloadable?
You should be really carefull using knifes that speed
Ha
Eyal FU WORD!!!
I think it's just sped up
Obviously!
after watching this video you start giggling. wishing that someday you'll have this awesome machines they've got so that you can build yours too.. :( :( :(
very very cleaver idea.. nice one
You can build this with a tablesaw and a drill.. in fact... I did. Here you go ruclips.net/video/LU_X_TFG6kI/видео.html
WOW! That was awesome!
That is an incredible piece, but very time consuming!
Very nice, congratulations.
Awesome video man, you're a beast
Wow, I love this sort of thing! It really is very beautiful as well as very cool!
Wonderful Idea
So cool gadget.
