Good grief, simply fantastic. Extremely well done showing excellent craftsmanship. Thanks a lot for making taping editing uploading and sharing. Best regards.
I believe that is by far the best box project I have seen. I've seen a few. (Making christmas gifts) definatly the best hidden compartment. I learned some pretty good tricks as well. I'm very glad I watched this one. Thanks for posting. You are definitely a skilled artist, with all the tools.
That is sweet. It's a true secret box. It looks great and hides a nice size treasure keeper inside. The "flip around" key is a wonderful thing nothing to lose, nothing to hide. Thank you for sharing.
+Dustin Penner I have not seen that method you used to align the lid with the hinge using glue.... i like that. Also, one of the best concealments I've seen on a simple box, very nice.
The feet, and leaving the knot on top are what made it A+. Now you have a nice place for your ashes and a secret place for your dog's. I always feel the pressure as the final cuts are made on an object with +20 hrs already invested...take nerves of steel and concentration.
Your video inspired me and I built a similar box, but it was a little larger. I used the same concepts for the hidden tray, except, I used tongue and groove cedar on the inside of the box and put oak trim on top of it. The hole is covered by one piece of cedar that is glued only to the top trim, so you lift up on the trim and cedar to expose the hole. The corner and base trim are virtually the same. Since my lid was so big, I put chains on it to keep it from opening too far. Thanks!
Enjoy this video? Fantastic! Do me a favour and follow me on Instagram - @dpmakestuff. I do giveaways and you get to see what I'm working on every day. Thank you!
he could just build a safe for the box. and then of course a safe for the safe for the box. and then naturally, finally, a secret compartment for the safe for the safe for the box with the secret compartment.
Well I was genuinely interested in making this but it looks waaaaay too hard for my current skill level! I found it pretty mesmerizing to watch though so yeah now it's entertainment!
Wow... absolute amazing! I'm just starting out with woodworking and building up my shop/tools. It will take me a little while to feel confident to make something like this, but this is definitely on my "Must Build" list. Thanks for sharing - great job!
This was absolutely brilliant. So many little details that someone else might have skipped over. Great job coming up with this and great job doing it PERFECTLY!
This was wonderful, Dustin - I'm really into the 'secret compartment' thing. Currently planning a toy box for my daughter with a hidden drawer, and may very well pinch some of your ideas! Great build.
WOW! What a beautiful lovely piece of furniture with a fantastic little twist of a secret compartment. You are indeed a very clever person. Well filmed, good speed, good sound track. I certainly could not do what you can but I appreciate watching what a professional can do, a very enjoyable 12 minutes - thank you Justin. :¬) PJ
Clever ! (and clever editing). I'm not sure where i heard this but I was told this formed part of the final tests for a woodworking Master apprenticeship (for such furniture ) good to see such a skill still being passed on.
I just released an updated video on this build. Same idea but much improved!
Just watched this one. Amazing stuff! I’ll have to check out the updated version. Thanks for sharing this!

Amazing work, keep up the great projects

Dude . . . .For some reason this is so relaxing to watch.
I get it!
Agreed, very relaxing, reminded me of when I used to watch the new Yankee workshop back in the 90's

About the coolest thing I've seen this year! Thanks for sharing some ideas.
Thats too bad for you.....
The feet, and leaving the knot on top are what made it A+. Now you have a nice place for your ashes and a secret place for your dog's. I always feel the pressure as the final cuts are made on an object with +20 hrs already invested...take nerves of steel and concentration.
half way though your videos i am like damn thats a nice box and then you continue the secret compartment and I'm like damn i forgot bout that.
Then by the end of the video, I was like: "Damn, I forgot to pick up my kids..."
And when I went to pick up the kids, I forgot that I even don't have kids..
And then I was like, who the hells kids are these?!?!
So then I was like "Who wants to go for ice cream?"
Rusty Shacolfurd then I was like Damn I want to go for some ice cream too..
Awesome Video. Love the craftsmanship and the details you put into this project.
+Tom Garland I try my best! Thanks Tom!
If I could give you 100 likes, I would !

Found you through Jimmy Diresta. Mad props for that box. Love it!
Very sweet design and build. Nice job!
I like the super glue trick.
excellent !!! very good job
what was the superglue trick ? was that to seat the hinge or to strengthen it?
+Carl Young Lining up the hinge so the box is perfectly aligned
Yeah, that was a part that lost me. I re-watched it after the explanation and it makes sense now.
Great work again! I also like your choise of beer!!!!!
That is so cool! The design is so clever! Did you think it up yourself?

This is a great build, and it looks really nice, I was excited to be surprised by the mechanism and how primitive it is, yet so clever.

Clever build! Excellent craftsmanship! Thank you for sharing.
You can never have too many clamps :)
wish all DIY vids were as nice and as "to the point" as this one! Love it!
Came here from casey's blog, and I have to say this is amazing
Wow. Stunning woodwork! Makes the softwood secret drawer chest that I put up on RUclips look quite simple. Excellent stuff.

Honoured to have all these Casey fans checking out my work.
Excellent project. I especially like the glued hinge for marking. New subscriber!
Title should be "What you can make if you have a bunch of badass tools"Great job though!
you dont even need most those tools, it either saves time or is more precise than necessary
Amazing work. Everything...the woodworking, the design, the video... You make me want to get into this stuff.
It's surprisingly easy to get into woodwork. Lot's of great how to videos online! Thanks very much!
But they will just steal the box because its so nice! So your out either way.... Make a crappy looking thing and no one would look twice.

This was wonderful, Dustin - I'm really into the 'secret compartment' thing. Currently planning a toy box for my daughter with a hidden drawer, and may very well pinch some of your ideas!
Great build.
That would be cool. A toy chest would give you lots of room the hide compartments.
The hinge installation was an eye opener for me, I struggle every time with hinges and getting them just right, thanks!
I'm in love! This is so neat! Secret compartments are awesome!
That is a peace of art what awesome craftsmanship!
