I don't disagree with your take on the Neo, except I feel like the improvement's you asked for are basically an Avata 2 and a Neo combined into once device. Maybe in the future we can get soemthing that meets in the middle of both worlds? I picked up the Neo but basically just for easy quick shots and don't expect anything miraculous out of it. Mainly just personal footage to share and not for my professional use. Great review though. New sub :)
YES!!! i got an avata 2 thinking it could do these things like use a RC2 or N3 (i got with the neo) i been streaming to my phone just to set up quick shots, its as annoying and laggy as it sounds
What you say make total sense but then the drone would cost double. I purchased it just for the simple use of follow me when out with friends or walking my dog without having to Carry a remote. I own the Mavic Pro, Mavic air 2 and mini 2 and that's All I need to fly around and have fun with a remote. The Biggest Downfall of the Neo is I CAN'T use my mini 2 remote....
They do need to update the app, to let you control the exposure and white balance, without the need for a physical controller, at the very least. That is something they can do. Its just a software UI improvement. And in my mind, if they do, it would make this an easy choice, to complement my DJI Mini 4K (edit now replaced with Mini Pro 4 as the 4k didn't work).
I made an opinion video where I said BEFORE the Neo was released that its meant more for content creators rather than drone pilots. The AI tracking and simple modes are going to help with B roll or act as a 2nd camera man. So I feel DJI made it not prioritizing a lot of the complaints you had. I just got my Neo because it looks like people are liking the tracking more than I imagined they would. But I haven't got to fly it yet. Stupid adult responsibilities. Thanks for the video.
I got the Neo with goggles and RC. I'm having fun. I needed an open spot to try it in acro mode first time so today I flew it at our local park. I lost it twice. All those fall leaves made it really tough! The second time I couldn't find it, so hooked my goggles to my tablet with DJI Fly on it. Took me right to it. Whew! Prediction: The Neo 2 will have optical avoidance, more powerful motors, weigh 249 grams, and cost $500. I love the goggles 3 with my Mini 4 and Air 3. Feels so natural!

@fpvrc9829 i (personally) don't care about acro. It's expensive, hard and i'll probably just crash a lot. In my opinion, if you want a cheap acro drone, the neo is your choice, but I don't care about it.
GetFPV sells the 'Aquila 16' starter bundle on Amazon (top seller) for $299. It comes with a cheap carrying case, a really crappy pair of goggles, a semi decent controller, 2 proprietary batteries that keep the drone up in the air for 3-5 mins and a drone with a 720p camera. In comparison, the Neo kit comes with 3 proprietary batteries and a charging bank and the drone itself for roughly the same price. Of course you will need to at least buy the RCN3 controller for a 'complete' experience, so that will run you another $100 or so. No quite an FPV like the GetFPV kit, but they are basically the same class of whoop drone. The main difference however is that, for a a comparable entry price, the Neo is a MUCH better drone. Better build quality, 'smart' features, 5-10 more minutes of flgiht time, 4k cam, DJI support...basically there is nothing in the "starter drone" market that competes with this drone atm. I will agree with you on the fact that DJI would be smart to offer budget goggles/controller to include with the Neo for a complete FPV kit, but besides that your rant sounds whiny.
Does anyone remember Google Cardboard? It was a way to turn your smartphone into googles for 3D viewing experiences. I'm thinking DJI should examine this as an option for FPV flying with their super cheap drone. $100 for a controller and a bit of cardboard to make FPV a possibility? Why not?

Since you mentioned Tello. In TelloFpv app it even got RTH. And since in app only Neo conts how far and how high it flies from start point why it cannot go back?
This is probably the best Neo vid. I have 4 Tellos and a Neo witth n3 controller. When I started compare them, got critics, that the Neo is the newer version of the Spark. I had a Spark too and they are not the same category. I fly these two with Dronemask 2. They are very similar, even the max speed is almost the same.
Hi, flying with the Dronemask and N3 controller, is there a way to set the gimbal to fpv mode instead of Horizon leveling? I have the same equipment on order. I have serious fpv drones and don't expect full fpv on the Neo without the necessary goggles and controller, I want to use it for kind of "casual" fpv flying in sport mode, and sometimes without having to use goggles.
@@mssippijim hello. This is exactly what I do. Unfortunately no more fpv mode in the fly app. I really liked it flying my spark and mini 1. Always leveled unfortunately. I want this function back. I agree with you in general....And how about improving the NOISE.... To me the Number One Issue to be solved.... It is annoying and DJI should work on it.
i think my Neo needs to be returned. It started flying erratically so i tried to do a IMU Calibration and that will not go past 95% complete and goes through a full battery without completing. Any ideas?
It's a difficult decision what to buy. My idea at the moment is that I start with the Neo fly more combo and later I add the RC 2 followed by the Mini 5 pro. That way I can use the Neo like better selfi stick and the mini for serious flying. Any thoughts?
Great review and thanks for sharing; agree with all of the points you raised however there is just one more to add to the pie !!!!; the noise !!!!; for a Drone that is meant to be small and "discreet"; its an unwanted attention grabbing sound; lets hope by some sort of miracle; there will be new props available in the future!
Hello sir I have a request can you make reviews in LYR/C Gps S159 pro the remote of this drone is so intriguing because of built in screen that connect to the drone
The Neo does not work well indoors even with all the lights on. When I go from one lighting condition to another it just takes off forward in a split second at high speed out of control and crashes into whatever is in front of it. It won't fly indoors for more than a minute or so without going out of control and smashing into something. None of my other dozen or so drones have this issue including my 5 other DJI drones, even the cheap little Mavic Mini and the Tello work fine indoors. DJI Support told me the Neo is meant for outdoor use only even though the users manual says otherwise. I bought the Neo to fly indoors during the winter. Starting to see tons of blogs on this issue. Many people are experiencing similar issues. It helps to strap a light to the bottom of the drone but, there is no good place to strap it because the battery and camera are in the way. I figure DJI will have to address the issue at some point. Nice aircraft otherwise.
I ended up buying it... and I have very MIXED FEELINGS. On one hand, it was awesome just turning it on and being able to have it follow you. BUT, it is glitchy and sometimes it would be slow to react. THEN, OMFG... I was using it with the controller and it lost connection... started flying erratically, like a total psycho... It started giving me all sorts of messages, flashing green, red, then telling me it was landing immediately (over water, of course). Thankfully I was able to update the "home" button to a parking lot and retrieve it. I am NOT impressed by this thing. And I don't know what to do now because it's brand new, I updated everything, and now I know I cannot trust it. Argh...!
I’m looking at it from the perspective that it can be used as a cat 1 drone for 107 pilots to fly over people. IMO that’s the only reason it’s in my bag of goodies.
just returned mine. just could not live with the footage. rather pay $150 more for decent vid. My 2 yr old insta 360go2 BLOWS the doors off this new neo drone for video. very sad cuz the rest of it i liked a lot.

@@HalfChrome I have the Mini 3 and avatar. This will probably be my go to drone. Can use my goggles and joystick, or my phone or nothing at all! And at that size, with the propeller guards...it's a game changer for convenience
Could the DJI Neo be used for indoor real estate videography? I have a mavic 3 pro thats getting great out door shots but I need something small for indoors. I would just get a gimbal but one of my legs is smaller than the other so the gimbal doesnt really help with my obvious gait issue. Thanks!
most all of the control problems you have named all revolves around being expensive. if you can’t afford the the options, then you probably can’t afford the hobby
I've had mine for about a month now and have tested it pretty extensively. My two biggest gripes are lack of range with the phone app and its lack of wind resistance. Flying with the phone app I can only go 30 to 50 feet before I lose signal and control. That can be a big problem given the lack of RTH function when flying in that configuration. That's not really very useful. I'm not sure there's much they can do about it given the WiFi protocol. If the drone was a more powerful hot spot it would help I'm sure. I've found that even very light wind tends to knock the aircraft around enough to affect the video. The built in image stabilization helps, but not enough. I see a lot of video on RUclips that looks pretty good. I'm guessing it must have been shot on windless days. I suppose it's not surprising given the light weight, but some more horsepower would definitely help. This thing seems to be best used for low altitudes in the automated modes. Anything else and it's out of its wheelhouse most of the time.
@@HalfChrome Look for the new models, little controller for example the hover max pro, A lot of points which you criticise are in the hover max pro included. The hover drones are between the Mini 4 pro and the Neo. But thy only work with WiFi. You must know, in the Neo you have to drones one in WiFi configuration, second with DJI Controller Configuration, when you have an Mini 4 pro or a Avatar. Than you have his model to complete your Sortiment. I use the Neo for flying I door or you have not so much place. Not mainly for take Videos. It everythime, what you wan‘t you do with your drone.
Agree with software improvements. Hardware is gonna bust the sub 200 bones.maybe a pro version with all your recommendations for 100 buck more… it will only get better from here.
I'd take one improvement and be very happy. Bigger battery! Hands down, this is the worst thing about the Neo. Since the Neo is so light, a double sized battery should be extremely easy.
Great video. New sub. I agree with pretty much everything you said about improvements. The only things I will add are a “turtle mode,” the ability to exceed 394 feet (yes, I know the limit is 400 feet) and a larger capacity battery for longer flights.
i have a theory as to why they dont include the fpv controller with avata 2 or i seen (but dont know where its available) a neo kit with googles and motion controller, and i think they are scared of ppl flying manual and just smashing the drone in 24 hours, i just got an fpv controller, and been using a sim, and ya, they definitely would smash the thing and send it back within refund window.... just my theory
I would gladly pay more for a Neo with side sensors and a better camera. I believe that side sensors would be more useful than front and rear as I can see forward with the camera, and I don't fly backwards unless I know where it is like with a dronie. I am waiting for Neo 2 or 3, but bought this one for a cheap toy to play with until they come out with what is likely already near production. This is obviously an attempt to rake in some bucks in the usual DJI manner, drop a teaser, then bring out the main product later. The Mavic 3 is the only one I still use the original of...
Many of these are things that DJI could implement. Why would we not want it to be better. It is a problem if I can’t set my exposure in the app and do an orbit and it changes mid shot. Why not add the ability to fix that on the app? Why do I need a controller to do so? Seems like a fixable problem.
@@HalfChromeit depends… it seems this video is geared towards recreational flyers and not 107 flyers. It does fit the bill in every way for a cat 1 drone out of the box. The one thing you didn’t mention is that for 107 flyers, it doesn’t have remote ID enabled in the US. Now that’s a a bad decision especially for 107 remote pilots.

I am new to drones and planning to buy one. Do you suggest to buy a used DJI mavic air(1st gen) or a new DJI Neo ? Both of them cost the same.
If you want to take pictures and video the Mavic is great.
@@HalfChromeThank you for the suggestion!
Hi where did you get the case that holds the rc2 with neo? Thank you
I sure did
Hi where did you get the carrying case for the neo rc2 controller, can’t find that carrying case?just the one with the rc n3
I’ll be making a video on that soon
I agree with you in general....And how about improving the NOISE.... To me the Number One Issue to be solved.... It is annoying and DJI should work on it.
i think my Neo needs to be returned. It started flying erratically so i tried to do a IMU Calibration and that will not go past 95% complete and goes through a full battery without completing. Any ideas?
No. Firmware update maybe?
Does the video show in full screen on Instagram?
If you want it to
Hi where did you get the case that holds the neo and the rc2 controller? I can only find the one with the rc n3 controller thank you
the fly more combo comes with the n3 controller and three batteries
Not in the USA
It's a difficult decision what to buy. My idea at the moment is that I start with the Neo fly more combo and later I add the RC 2 followed by the Mini 5 pro. That way I can use the Neo like better selfi stick and the mini for serious flying. Any thoughts?
That’s a good plan. Except you’ll get a remote with the mini and can use that with the Neo
I believe most popular products will have improvements. Yes, a dji neo pro is a good idea 👍
Thanks for the video. Can I use the Air 2S controller with the Neo?
If you have the RCN2 or RC2 then yes.
The rc n1 nope
Can you control the shutter? Aperture etc?? It doesn’t shoot 4k 24???? Hmm pass for me
You won’t find a $200 that can do all of these things.
The fly more combo in most countries does include a controller, I live in Mexico and it’s sold with a controller
Not in USA
that explains why I can't find all these peripherals people are talking about....
Men oh men.. you need to calm down. It’s only a beginner drone. It’s perfect for 199$. You want more option pay more and you will get it.
Is it perfect? I’ll bet most of these get updated via firmware. Feel free to throw money at your problems but I’ll ask for improvements.
Imagine how small a Neo mini would be
Can you make another video with the new update
I may.
Hello sir I have a request can you make reviews in LYR/C Gps S159 pro the remote of this drone is so intriguing because of built in screen that connect to the drone
I have looked into it.
Argh...!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Save me from a purchase. I will wait for version 2 or pro version
I’m looking at it from the perspective that it can be used as a cat 1 drone for 107 pilots to fly over people. IMO that’s the only reason it’s in my bag of goodies.
Many thanks.
just returned mine. just could not live with the footage. rather pay $150 more for decent vid. My 2 yr old insta 360go2 BLOWS the doors off this new neo drone for video. very sad cuz the rest of it i liked a lot.
Can I just say, given that your audience is a first time drone purchaser, please stop with the acronym jargon (FPV) and just state the term first and give its acronym after introducing the term.
Dude, Lack of SD card, really? I can say I dont like Tesla becasue I cannot refule it with Gas! Its built to be a beginner device, otherwise there is another option as AVATA 2
There are plenty of people that don’t like Tesla because they don’t run on gas. It is literally the number one reason people don’t buy Teslas.
how the fk do you release a piece of electronics in 2024 without an SD card?
You right! No rth ,no setting video control,no sport option , no wifi estender capability like Tello....i am upset cazzo!
@@jean-marcnaud2838 pardon i was talking about the basic drone ,not the combo set
Newly released devices usually have bad firmware. It sucks we have to wait for months for fixes.
I'm buying. Portable. Affordable. Can use your phone or just the drone!
It’s great. Dont get me wrong.
@@HalfChrome I have the Mini 3 and avatar. This will probably be my go to drone. Can use my goggles and joystick, or my phone or nothing at all!
And at that size, with the propeller guards...it's a game changer for convenience
cost me USD$ 480 in India with extra battery and controller . i have no problem value for money
Hi sorry I didn’t understand your reply “sure “did “? Thank you
Could the DJI Neo be used for indoor real estate videography? I have a mavic 3 pro thats getting great out door shots but I need something small for indoors. I would just get a gimbal but one of my legs is smaller than the other so the gimbal doesnt really help with my obvious gait issue. Thanks!
I don’t think the camera is good enough. Especially indoors with more challenging lighting.
most all of the control problems you have named all revolves around being expensive. if you can’t afford the the options, then you probably can’t afford the hobby
bad features for the price point does not equal expensive. it means the value proposition is trash. feel free to get ripped off by halfbaked products.
Under 200 bucks expect a 007 device?
Not at all
We really need horizontal control
Buy an expensive model
@@Droneaway-72 why? I like this drone
Agreed. Why?
@@Droneaway-72 Third! Why?
if only i could use my dji fpv googles, controller and motion remote......
Yup, the dji go app for my Spark is far better.
No TIME LAPSE VIDEO ...
Then take a Hover. It is not the right drone foryou.
Why?
I’d love to see that
It's 200.00 geez
i will buy it when it is compatible with fpv controller 2 and googles V2
Nope, only the 3.
I'd take one improvement and be very happy. Bigger battery! Hands down, this is the worst thing about the Neo. Since the Neo is so light, a double sized battery should be extremely easy.
Ok thanks
Great video. New sub. I agree with pretty much everything you said about improvements. The only things I will add are a “turtle mode,” the ability to exceed 394 feet (yes, I know the limit is 400 feet) and a larger capacity battery for longer flights.
Turtle mode would be great. Thanks
nice
i have a theory as to why they dont include the fpv controller with avata 2 or i seen (but dont know where its available) a neo kit with googles and motion controller, and i think they are scared of ppl flying manual and just smashing the drone in 24 hours, i just got an fpv controller, and been using a sim, and ya, they definitely would smash the thing and send it back within refund window.... just my theory
You are probably correct
I would gladly pay more for a Neo with side sensors and a better camera. I believe that side sensors would be more useful than front and rear as I can see forward with the camera, and I don't fly backwards unless I know where it is like with a dronie.
I am waiting for Neo 2 or 3, but bought this one for a cheap toy to play with until they come out with what is likely already near production. This is obviously an attempt to rake in some bucks in the usual DJI manner, drop a teaser, then bring out the main product later. The Mavic 3 is the only one I still use the original of...
Ummm, these are not "problems".
What are they?
@@HalfChrome Nothing more than the way the drone operates, that you happen to dislike.
Might be as simple as he wanted to get on the RUclips cash bandwagon. Everybody else has made a neo video and he didn't want to miss out.
you are the problem😂
all bs
or you need to talk a little slower.... thats why
The horizontal control is now available as well as a new cheaper FPV headset too. Hopefully more of these downsides will be sorted soon.
Yes. DJI is making it better
@ yeah they seem to be listening. It definitely could use more connectivity with the older remotes too. Also the Fly More package in the U.K. does have a remote though? Fantastic starter kit.
I can't find any of the new headset/controller on the USA store though
