Love this video! So easy to understand that we should be kind to ourselves like we are to our friends! I can't wait to share this with people that I know!
It's shocking to realize that I frequently allow those unhelpful thoughts to sink into myself. I love these resources! Today I'm going to practice accepting and approving of myself.
When I attempt this I instantly know I'm lying to myself? It never clicks, your failures just override it. This for me prevents any growth. I can't get past that accountability and damage done. In non emotional taught Asian culture when I show empathy towards family and friends, they take that as weakness? They don't see that I'm trying to reach out and put them before myself. Like Superheroes do no matter what. They put me down because I can be strong for them. I don't want them to feel this pain they have just inflicted to pad their ego. If I lash out I'm convinced that's the easy way out, continue to be strong. I know I can handle they pain they cannot. If they believe I'm worth nothing, it's hard to convince yourself you are worth anything Your eyes say pain then Love. TY Dr for being a light in this dark world. Happy Fathers Day
Thanks for your comment and experiences! No need to lie to yourself; self-compassion is simply about responding with kindness. You deserve that just as much as every other human. See also some of these common misconceptions about self-compassion: ruclips.net/video/PsNtjgM6NL4/видео.html
I lost my wife in 2019 she was aged 32, I have 3 teen children and am only now accepting treatment and self compassion is my 1st step. God bless you all and things will get brighter ... i just told myself this to x

It's insightful that Dr. Warren points out the resistance to believing we are worthy of self kindness and acceptance in the heat of the moment. I'd love for self-compassion to be my first reaction instead of a place to remind myself to go AFTER the critical thoughts go flying. Looking forward to taking the course.
Thanks, Andrea! I think one of the hardest things is just noticing self-critical thoughts in the first place. It's definitely a skill that takes practice, and even then it's about noticing *sooner* (and then pivoting to a compassionate response) more than getting rid of self-criticism completely.
This video leaves me with so much warmth in my heart and trust that I can become more compassionate towards myself. Thank you! Can't wait to see what's next.
What's a simple way you'll be kind to yourself today? I'd love to know!

Thanks very much!
A good dose of self - hate wouldn’t go amiss sometimes, if warranted.

Thakn you
Nice and simple. I think the greatest gift of self compassion is humility. Humility is definitely a grown up quality.
That's very true! Self-compassion helps us see that each of us (self included) is worthy of the same love and appreciation).
@@MBS101 yes, but beyond that, we can feel that for others even when they disappoint us because: there but for the grace of god go I.
