I had similar taillights fitted to my 997.1 Carrera 4s, and they give a more 'modern' look to the car. Your mods from Rennline have really lifted the engine bay, especially the air ducts, which look a top notch product. The CF airbox also looks the business, & I was happy to see that you kept the OEM style intake system, avoiding the pitfall of fitting a cone type performance intake, which just sucks warm air from the engine bay. The Porsche Engineers designed the OEM intake/airbox for a reason! Keep up the great work & looking forward to the interior being installed in the near future.👍👍
In the engine compartment, it is better to use fabric rather than plastic adhesive tapes. They dont shrink from heat, they dont harden with ages. And look more OEM than cheap garage solution. 3M should have them.
Looking great! May want to add blue locktite on the hardware holding the air ducts to the trunk and also some slim foam to be able to create a seal to the air box.
I absolutely love this project!! The exterior color choice is nothing short of perfection!!! Keep up the outstanding work! Over the moon excited to see the finished product! 💪💪💪
Matt, this remains one of the best builds on YT. You have come a long way with the car and your abilities too. Fascinating to watch the final stages now. Keep those alloys OEM😉😊
Getting ever better with each upload, Matt! I mean, even better than I figured it could be - you embody perseverance! Your video editing augments the great progress you've made - love i!
Congratulations on a sick project Matt. I've been watching every vid since the beginning of the 996. Really Inspiring the way you tackle these megaprojects that most people wouldn't even do in a full-on shop, DIY in your garage. Super awesome. I hope the car is a blast. Excited to see what you do next. Also you're the only youtuber I got merch from i got that baby blue 996 hoodie. One of my favorite sweatshirts. Anyway, good shit bud.
Man, every time you drop a video I think this one is it we get to see it together and driving lol. It’s looking awesome, I’m more partial to the factory spoiler but with the color it’s looking pretty good.
Matt. You’re coming along way on the build and your channel. Love the content. Can’t wait to see what’s next. In the rear air intake. Is there a rubber gasket that seals the two pieces when you close the trunk? Just an idea so they don’t get chipped up when driving.
Matt this prob one my favourite rebuilds going love everything about it the slow detailed pace! Awesome. What you don't see with most people they all wam bang done.
You’ve gotten very, very good at the video editing Matt 👍🏻 really great content and lots of fun to watch. That little Grey Ghost is gonna be just beautiful 😁🫵🏻 Get us some stickers 😊
Looking better and better. Can't wait for the final reveal and the "Porsche Build in 10 minutes" video. This has been a long one and it feels like we're between 3rd and home. Jury, IMO, is still out on the paint color but I'll save final "Internet troll" judgement until the final video (as if I had any influence on it whatsoever). Again, great work!
Really making progress Matt! Congratulations on this project! I love it!! I still would have picked a different color, but we have already been over that! LOL!
You should have used threaded inserts instead on rivet nuts. The reason is the consequence fue saw in the right hole: thar rivet nut cracked/broke the hole. Rivet nuts are suited for metal not for fiber glass. Instead threaded inserts with proper glue would have been the proper way to go.
New timelapse song at 7:30 is fire! Seeing the build come together is so satisfying, im really enjoying it, cant wait to have it done. Cant help but ask, where are you going to store both porsches and the E36, you only have 2 garage spaces and I assume you will want to continue to use one for projects.
you have two choices of stock lights, the red one you have is an option that is fairly desirable and i personally think looks best. the depos look like autozone tier and ruin the rear body line.
The DEPO Led are great yes so much better because they are the same ones I have on mine 997.1 Turbo. Ha. Get a DSC Suspension controller too if you have PASM it will smooth the ride & make you want to drive it more. There is some led driving lamps you can upgrade to much the headlights too. I also did the full led upgrade in and rear plate too. Cheers
All that carbon is so sexy! Would love to see a custom carbon fan shroud to finish it off and cover up the hardware. That electrical tape is gonna be a real nightmare if you ever have to remove it. Turns into a nasty goo in no time. Replace it with some Tesa fabric harness tape. It's the proper OEM tape for most German cars.
The asking the wife bit had me laughing. I asked my wife for the step stool out of my 13 year old’s stepsons bedroom earlier because he was sleeping (he’s cool and I respect his space, mom can do anything though!) and later she was like “oh yeah, I forgot”. I got the same vibe. Sheeesh!
Those ducts look real good. Should there be a rubber gasket of some sorts between the two halves to seal them? Back lights look friggin awesome too. 😎👍🏍
Job well done as always! One suggestion if you don't mind: either try to get some taillights with a full led line or change the third brake light to the "dot" led style. Or OEM. Or just ignore me, this was just my OCD...
Oooooh this will look so good when finished. I did not like the yellow on the 996 (still not my cup of tea) and also the grey seemed not to be a good choice (at least my opinion). But this grew on me a lot, I think the car will look good once it is finished. Like!
Thanks for inspiring me to purchase a project car for my RUclips channel!! I’m looking into a 987.1 actually hahaha much cheaper than a 911! Great videos as usual
Matt, you are aware that you need to retrofit the original rear lid air intake rubber gaskets, to the new carbon intake tubes, right? (Otherwise the will not seal up which will result in reduced airflow, which is not the general idea).
Nice job man, as one of the world greatest said… progress is a slow process. But did you not tell us in the last video you were going to finish the interior first?
Unless Morimoto sponsors the build I wouldn’t bother replacing the taillights. The new ones look quite good to me 😀 great Matt, looking fantastic 👍
I had similar taillights fitted to my 997.1 Carrera 4s, and they give a more 'modern' look to the car.

Thanks so much for the positive feedback!
987.1 cayman taillight
In the engine compartment, it is better to use fabric rather than plastic adhesive tapes. They dont shrink from heat, they dont harden with ages. And look more OEM than cheap garage solution. 3M should have them.
THOSE TAIL LIGHTS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
That was a long journey, I admire your passion and patience brother!!!
Thank you! Still a bit to go, but getting there!
Put some foam tape on the ducts to utilize all the air flow 😊
Planning on it!
Should definitely look at getting a depin set and learning to repin the connectors.
🙂
Great job, keep up the good work.
I liked the grill painting montage. Nice work Matt, she’s coming along nicely!
Looking great! May want to add blue locktite on the hardware holding the air ducts to the trunk and also some slim foam to be able to create a seal to the air box.
I do want foam.
I absolutely love this project!! The exterior color choice is nothing short of perfection!!! Keep up the outstanding work! Over the moon excited to see the finished product! 💪💪💪
Thanks a bunch!!
Ah damn it was hoping you would go with morimoto taillights. Give those depos back and get them instead
Possibly!
Another great video I admire your attention to detail…
Matt, this remains one of the best builds on YT. You have come a long way with the car and your abilities too. Fascinating to watch the final stages now. Keep those alloys OEM😉😊
Thanks so much! Not sure about wheels yet
Really coming together man, loving the series from London UK
The taillights look great on that car
Getting ever better with each upload, Matt!
I mean, even better than I figured it could be - you embody perseverance!
Your video editing augments the great progress you've made - love i!
I appreciate that!
Looking fantastic, Matt!!!!
I note you trusted the wiring colour on the deck fan. You need to check the polarity / that it’s blowing / pulling in the correct direction.
True, good point!
You can also just disassemble the plug and remove the pins and insert the original ones, no need to cut the original wires as it has the pins already
My favorite thing about your videos is s that you make it seem like my dream car is actually attainable without some crazy shop or 100k.
They totally are, if you're willing to put in some elbow grease.
Actually, the yellow 996 cost Mat very close to $100k, he did a video on it a while back
Emotional roller coaster…
In 2019 I got my speed yellow 997.1 turbo for $42k in excellent condition. I'd sell it today with all my mods for $60k
That's too cheap!
DANG!!! Easily my favorite RUclips build!!! Looks great Matt!!! 😁👍🏼
Thanks so much!!
What a build. Love it!!!
Nice progress Matt, she is coming along well.
Thanks!
Hell yeah!!! It's coming together! 💪
Hi Matt 👋 the rear of the car is looking perfect 👌 and it all works. Great job bro. Chat soon 😅🇨🇮
way to go! I enjoyed watching that. I like the new colour. although I prefer stockish looking led taillights
Ok understood 😄 concerning taillights! Keep the right one in case... it is a tequipment OEM one. The left one is from a Cayman, you are right!
La bise
Keep these tail lights Matt, they look great and 'period correct' somehow with those LED dots.
Woow! This car is looking awesome 👏🏻

@19:36 my 996 lights flash with the key fob, about once every other week!
Thanks for the link Matt keep up the great work.
Nice Build! Like the Intake and the "Bürzel" = German for Ducktail ;)
That looks really really good ! Well done 👍🏻 ❤
Man, every time you drop a video I think this one is it we get to see it together and driving lol. It’s looking awesome, I’m more partial to the factory spoiler but with the color it’s looking pretty good.
Some day lol
Cars coming together well .
Looking great legend
Coming along nicely!
It’s coming along great Matt. Looks like it’s about time for glass.
Matt. You’re coming along way on the build and your channel. Love the content. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
In the rear air intake. Is there a rubber gasket that seals the two pieces when you close the trunk? Just an idea so they don’t get chipped up when driving.
They don't make the gasket anymore. I have to do something custom.
Morimotos would look insane. Depos are a great option too!! Looks super good either way 🔥🔥🔥 your taste is so clean
You should get yourself some fabric wire loom tape. It looks way more OEM, I used it on my 996 LS swap. Lots of re-wiring done on that project.
Just ordered some thanks!
That rear deck and big wing is going to look fantastic
Nice work man, big up from France !
Great progress. Keep it up!
Definitely get those morimoto rears! They look so good!
I think so too!
On the industrial side. We call them nutserts and use a pneumatic nutsert gun.
Morimoto tails look dope!! get them
Definitely Morimoto!

Very close!!
Matt, One one those wires are for the engine lid light and switch
Where is the engine light in the 997? It's no on the fan like my 996.
The cayman tail light is hilarious
So i don't know about the 996 but on the 997 when you lock the car the lights flash twice for "good bye" and unlock they flash once for "hi".
Keep it up, you got this
Really making progress Matt! Congratulations on this project! I love it!! I still would have picked a different color, but we have already been over that! LOL!
Haha i love it!
perfect lunch break video!
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@matt13ross always
Looks good
Bro this build is turning out amazing!
Thanks!
I think the rear lights look real good
Thanks!
Videos just keep getting better!🎉
Glad you like them!
Love the carbon work under the engine lid beautiful❤
Me too!

Def not keeping both Porsches lol
you have two choices of stock lights, the red one you have is an option that is fairly desirable and i personally think looks best. the depos look like autozone tier and ruin the rear body line.
I disagree! But not everyone will love these.

I have to fix the PASM first lol
@@matt13rossthe DSC controller is an excellent upgrade. Especially if you lower the car at all
Very jealous - given the effort you've put in to date that car will be lovely when it's finished !
All that carbon is so sexy! Would love to see a custom carbon fan shroud to finish it off and cover up the hardware.

Ahahaha typical!!
@matt My 03 6tt lights flash when I lock and unlock using the fob.
If u can do it (work on cars) I know I can do it as well. Thanks for the confidence, and motivation 🙏🏾
Morimoto smoked set might be perfect with the gray color.
I actually prefer the red
Nicely done, sir!
Thank you kindly!
My 996 does flash the lights with when I lock/unlock it. It may be a setting you have to configure, but I know mine is stock.
I guess it would help if my 996 fob worked lol
Those ducts look real good. Should there be a rubber gasket of some sorts between the two halves to seal them? Back lights look friggin awesome too. 😎👍🏍
Yes but you can't buy it anymore!
Job well done as always! One suggestion if you don't mind: either try to get some taillights with a full led line or change the third brake light to the "dot" led style. Or OEM. Or just ignore me, this was just my OCD...
I don't think I have any other options for a third brake light since it's aftermarket
I am very impressed how it is going! Now I kind of miss my 997.1…
The holes you drilled out for the ducting and wires, did you cover the exposed metal with any paint after? Hopefully doesn’t rust from moister buildup
To me these lights make it pop
Oooooh this will look so good when finished.
I did not like the yellow on the 996 (still not my cup of tea) and also the grey seemed not to be a good choice (at least my opinion). But this grew on me a lot, I think the car will look good once it is finished.

987.2 Cayman and Boxster tail light
Thanks for inspiring me to purchase a project car for my RUclips channel!! I’m looking into a 987.1 actually hahaha much cheaper than a 911! Great videos as usual
Good for you! Start wrenching!!
Matt, you are aware that you need to retrofit the original rear lid air intake rubber gaskets, to the new carbon intake tubes, right? (Otherwise the will not seal up which will result in reduced airflow, which is not the general idea).
I don't have any :( and you can't order them either.
Definitely upgrade to the Morimotos.
Btw the light comes from a cayman/boxster
PURRRRFECTTTTTT...!!!
Yes get morimoto and please convince them to make a 996 turbo version next 🙏
My ‘02 996TT lights flash when locking.
Matt, please no E tape wire looms. That is all, good day.
Matt...you should invest in cloth tape to cover up the wiring.
Ordered!
My 996.2 Turbo flashes lights when locking with keyfob.
Clean
Looks like a boxster?
Looking great ! Are the intake ducts missing the rubber seal that meets the intake box ?
I never had any and you can't even purchase them anymore sad 😢
@@matt13rossto Amazon for a DIY project
Too many options IDK what will look best lol
@@matt13ross for the foam seal strip you should actually go to McMaster Carr. It's dirt cheap and you can get a couple different options
Just can't decide on what type would look best.
did you test the fan ? xD
Not yet
No trunk light? What if some of your tucked cables are for that?
Where does the light go?
Are we going to see this car at the Rennsport Dragon Rally this summer?
Where is that? Lol
Nice job man, as one of the world greatest said… progress is a slow process.
But did you not tell us in the last video you were going to finish the interior first?
Yeah my mistake. Next video I assure you!
Definitely a 987.1
