  • A mother and father in Scioto County, Ohio stand trial in the death of their infant son. Young Dylan Groves was found dead 30 feet down a well last year, prosecutors said. Authorities blame the boy’s parents-mother Jessica Groves, and father Daniel Groves-for what happened. The defendants are charged with aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse, and four counts of felonious assault.
Problems stemmed right from Dylan’s day of birth on January 10, 2019. The boy was born with drugs in his system, authorities claim. Daniel Groves later got the child back after showing that he followed regulations, but the defendant allegedly started missing important dates, including court dates and doctor’s appointments.
Investigators claim that both defendants bolted on a four-wheeler when authorities dropped by the home for a checkup on May 20, according to WLTW. Deputies obtained a search warrant, got Jessica Groves to give herself up quickly, but Daniel Groves was only arrested after a six-hour standoff. Authorities said they found $42,000 of stolen items at the residence, and later found the late infant in a well.
Deputies said Dylan Groves didn’t even make it to a full three months of age. They claim there’s evidence showing he’d been dead since March.
A coroner determined that the victim had been slain. The child sustained several bone fractures, had been wrapped in plastic bags with duct tape, then put in milk crates that were wrapped in chains, and other bindings, according to WSAZ. The creates were weighted down with rocks and a weight, authorities said. As in his birth, Groves died with drugs in his body, according to the coroner. This allegedly included methamphetamine.

Andrea Bowling, Baby Dylan's foster mom, provided the most loving, safe environment he had in his entire short 2 1/2 months of life. She did everything a loving parent would do. Bought items at her own expense for Baby Dylan. Told friends and family about the newborn she'd be welcoming into her home and received cribs, rocking chair, etc. She took pictures of Baby Dylan and must have held him for hours on end, soothing, rocking, kissing, and caressing his tiny, trembling, pained body. Over 12 days she strongly bonded with Baby Dylan. She is traumatized and will have guilty feelings about allowing him to go back to his monster parents even though she had no choice.

it likely she will be excluded from trying to foster, unfortunately if you show too much attachment, and when/if the bio parents sense that, it can go very badly for the child.......when you foster, especially emergent fostering of babies and kids, when they need immediate care, if you show signs of wanting to keep the child, adopt them, or stay active in their life----people like this woman, takes that as threat. In my opinion she killed her baby in defiance to the system and the woman that had her baby for those 12 days and wanted to keep him. Fostering should be be redone from the ground-up as far as being able to filter out potential abusers of foster kids and folks that cannot separate themselves enough from getting too attached.

6 years ago my 2 children were placed in foster care ( not because of drugs) but domestic violence.
Yes they are back home but it took me 1 whole year. Multiple parent courses, domestic violence courses I also did a college course and kept up with my contacts which I travelled 40 miles and that was three times a week.
The foster cares were the most beautiful, caring loveing people I ever met. I now have them on Facebook and I keep them updated.
I've been engaged now for three years, nice home and me and my partner have twins too which we had social in again just to be weary. But every time they came they checked all the children's bedrooms, held both babies and they would also do a visit along with the health visitor. Of course there not involved any more and at that time I was like I don't get it.. But hearing this case I'm so glad they do that!

These videos should be compulsory for anyone considering social work, foster care, or human service vocations. There is a wealth of information to be absorbed; from nonverbal observations to legal procedures/techniques to how to be a witness (key:Speak UP).
I would have benefited tremendously from these videos prior to my social work time in Cincinnati. Two years was the maximum I could handle. It’s beyond difficult for those of us who are more like the foster mom (care deeply @ others).
We are desperately needed in those positions but they can eat us alive 💔. We can’t help but get invested in outcomes and the feeling of helplessness is real, despite our best efforts. You can either become jaded or suffer a nervous breakdown. There isn’t much middle ground.

They're dope feins they can't afford a lawyer, the State has to legally appoint anyone a lawyer who can't afford one on their own. But, they get their paychecks signed by the same people most of the time. Most lawyers and prosecutors are friends outside of the Court room.

I don't care what anyone says, you don't have to be a specialist to know when someone is a good or bad person. That's why we have instincts. You can also read people by their body language and mannerisms etc and the contrast between the paternal mother and Ms Bowling is crystal clear. Ms Bowling seems like a genuinely lovely soul and it's clear she loved that baby more than it's mother (and I use that word extremely loosely) and you could see that she was cut deeply about that poor baby. I choked up more than a few times watching her testify. I felt so bad when she broke down after saying she had him for 12 days but was going to have him for more. I badly wanted to hug her and reassure her that there's no way she could of done any more than she did. See how the ripples of such a heinous crime affect good people in ways you could never imagine. I give the foster mom so much credit and overwhelming respect. I love children and babies and would do anything to help them. I’ve very often wished I could do what she so selflessly does in being a foster mom. Every time I’ve ever gotten close, what always holds me back is knowing the devastation that would come every time a child was taken from me and given back to filthy, monstrous, druggie, inept “parents”. It’d be much easier to get over missing a child you cared for if you were giving them to loving parents but I bet that almost never happens. How do you ever get past the sickening worry you’d feel from there on out never knowing if they’re safe and being properly cared for. That worry, heartbreak and devastation would just do me in after one, let alone multiple times.
People like her are absolute miracles. I hope she is able to heal after this and go on to help more children that need her. I wish something could be done for her.

My heart breaks for that foster mom. I also commend her. She gave Dylan 12 full days of unconditional and pure love. 12 days isn’t much but at least he experienced that. He was truly loved for 12 days. He was loved. He will continue to be loved. She was and is his guardian angel.

@@mimikay5421 I agree but I believe she was lying. Foster parents are given funding to buy items for children. The pay is good too. She as a foster parent should have been more professional, and although getting attached is normal, it is advised to not get too attached. This can cause a conflict of interest. 12 days was way to soon to say she loved him. She was an emotional wreck because the baby was killed, if alive and doing well would she be crying? And it's against policy that foster parents ask to stay involved with reunited children, she's a dogs body for CPS nothing more. Shame as she is a wonderful lady who should just adopt, fostering is too hard for her, she gets attached to easy, clingy in fact. This isn't a stable lady emotionally ( speaking generally )

      Hach
Not sure how much foster parents are paid in Ohio ... Nevada pays $800 a month per child. This amount doesn't even cover full time monthly child care expenses for a newborn or a older child's after school care & extra curricular sports, gymnastics, karate, ect...
Yes, "CPS" does advise foster parents not to get too attached to the children placed in their care.
Imho this mindset is a disservice to the emotionally & physically broken children who are thrown into the system.
Many of these kids need love, guidance, acceptance, & support from an Adult..Not another dysfunctional & detached relationship.
Andrea Bowling has been a 3rd grade teacher for almost 20 years... clearly she loves children & wears her heart on her sleeve.
I believe she fell in love with Dylan the minute she laid eyes on him.
Mommy instincts are fierce ... Something inside of her connected with this little boy & she gave him her heart.
12 days with a newborn baby who's going through drug withdrawals is a 24/7 job. These babies wake up screaming & go to sleep screaming in 2-3 hour intervals.
I think the most experienced & professional foster parent would have a difficult time compartmentalizing emotion durning & after caring for a drug addicted newborn.
Bowlings knew there was a problem with the parents & broke the rules-
      She was Dylan's only lifeline.
CPS worker didn't bother with her protocols either.
I don't think Andrea Bowlings is too emotional to foster- This would be a traumatizing situation for any person who loved & wanted to help children...

@@mimikay5421 In the UK it's a nicely paid job, all costs covered including petrol and any extra curricula activities children attend.
On average my friend brings home around £550 A week for one child, this depends on the needs of the child, disabled children can bring in £650- 700 a week. I know a few foster parents who are quite honest and stated it's for the love of children, but if the money wasn't nice they wouldn't do it. It's a full time job, the foster parents I know do not work, fostering is their employment.
I agree with what you say about these children needing love, you can give love without being too emotionally attached in an unhealthy way, teachers who cross the line with children in school isn't a healthy teacher, pupil relationship. It's not an easy job, but you must remain professional. Motherly instincts and soft skills are a must, I would imagine to become a foster parent. During my interview for teaching I was asked about boundaries, yes teachers must remain behind that line. A teacher who can't help herself stroking or cuddling a specific child is quite creepy, if I see this I report those people.

If only cps had listened to their concerns they would still be bring up baby Dylan now.

Having raised a large family and knowing the effort involved in caring for a newborn, ie. being constantly available to comfort, change diapers, feed and bathe, all the time being sleep deprived and exhausted, I can’t imagine why an addicted mother would choose to keep her baby. Of course, I realize they don’t do these things, but I assume the intention is there when they ask CPS to return their baby. Why? Some addicted women have 4, 5 and more, so they know the drill 🤷🏼‍♀️
