Groves Trial Day 3 - Daniel Groves Jr - Son of Defendants

  • A mother and father in Scioto County, Ohio stand trial in the death of their infant son. Young Dylan Groves was found dead 30 feet down a well last year, prosecutors said. Authorities blame the boy’s parents-mother Jessica Groves, and father Daniel Groves-for what happened. The defendants are charged with aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse, and four counts of felonious assault.
Problems stemmed right from Dylan’s day of birth on January 10, 2019. The boy was born with drugs in his system, authorities claim. Daniel Groves later got the child back after showing that he followed regulations, but the defendant allegedly started missing important dates, including court dates and doctor’s appointments.
Investigators claim that both defendants bolted on a four-wheeler when authorities dropped by the home for a checkup on May 20, according to WLTW. Deputies obtained a search warrant, got Jessica Groves to give herself up quickly, but Daniel Groves was only arrested after a six-hour standoff. Authorities said they found $42,000 of stolen items at the residence, and later found the late infant in a well.
Deputies said Dylan Groves didn’t even make it to a full three months of age. They claim there’s evidence showing he’d been dead since March.
How Baby Dylan Was Found In the Well:
A coroner determined that the victim had been slain. The child sustained several bone fractures, had been wrapped in plastic bags with duct tape, then put in milk crates that were wrapped in chains, and other bindings, according to WSAZ. The crates were weighted down with rocks and a weight, authorities said. As in his birth, Groves died with drugs in his body, according to the coroner. This allegedly included methamphetamine.

His parents once upon a time were good parents.
Drug riddled addicts couldn't raise a sweet, mature and well mannered young man.
Makes me wonder what happened to them to go the drug route.
If they were addicts during Daniel's early childhood he wouldn't have been thriving.

OMG the amount of times they’re telling this boy to speak up is quite annoying. Get a better mic system for Christ sake. Stop asking witnesses to practically scream their answers. It’s nerve wracking enough for a teenager to get up there and testify against their own parents but to also pester them about speaking up over and over again and scream that testimony. It would intimidate and terrify anyone. That kids voice isn’t soft, it was clear and concise and he did a fabulous job. The court needs to do a better job with updating their equipment.

@Michelle doe - He's 15, the baby was only there for less than two months so he likely rarely had any time with the baby at all. He's 15 and has better things to do than spend time with an infant.

    • @GlennaVan
      @GlennaVan 4 года назад +6

@Michelle doe - if he did, which I doubt, he has seen both of his parents go to prison, one for life, so he would be highly unlikely to do anything like that again. Because the photos as well as graphic descriptions were shown, he would have seen them and fully realize what was done.
His parents didn't want him to testify likely because they were afraid he could say things that would make it even worse. However, his parents not wanting to "put him through the trauma" of it may have been a defense strategy for them to look like compassionate people.
He's a 15-year-old boy, if the baby was doing something the bothered him, he would have just left not gone in and hurt the baby to "shut it up."

Regardless of their past before this murder, this trial is for the death of Baby Dylan, not a trial of if they were good parents at one time. A person's general character does not negate their behavior committing a horrible act. The best people in the world can do something unmentionably horrible, as happened here, but all the good behavior doesn't change what they did. It does seem that in the past, all was well with them and something happened to change that, but good parents before or not, they chose to start taking drugs. I know a young man who made the mistake and was, fortunately, able to work himself out of the mess he had gotten himself in though to took years and absolute commitment to do it. He also had a good job and a good life before he took those first drugs. I have so much respect for the foster parents. Sitting through that entire trial. At least they were there to show concern for baby Dylan. At least for a very small period of his little life he felt loved, cared for and safe.
It's so sad that the law protects the rights of criminals above the welfare of society as a whole.

Hes so well spoken but its so obvious he is having a hard time putting it all into adequate words, which is common with trauma, being able to step into the memory and see it perfectly but it being so difficult to describe the intensity after the fact, especially for a 15 year old. This is truly heartbreaking 💔

And I missed the exact time stamp but if you watch his father mouths "I love you" to him and that's just the icing on top of this whole tragedy, that boy was brave enough to sit there with them both staring at him mouthing stuff like that to him while he recanted the last time he would ever see his little brother

He has been through so much and I am sure he will need help, and I hope he is able to get the help he needs, and live a wonderful, successful life in the care of the guardians he is with now. I cannot imagine what this poor boy seen and endured, and how scared he had to be to be testifying in front of all of those people. I will pray for him and send all my best to him. God bless him. 2:30 We see the father displaying more emotion than he has nearly the entire case. This same man sat completely stoic with a bored expression while the medical examiner described the multiple fractures of his infant son and how they had most likely occurred after death or immediately during his murder.... Yet now he breaks down sobbing to hear that his son is about to testify? This is because he knew at this moment that he would be going to prison and NOT getting away with this lie about being unaware of Dylan's injuries. He feels so sorry for HIMSELF that he is finally able to cry.
10:35 when Daniel Jr states that the bruising and swelling were seen by him 2/3 weeks before the murder, the father's hand starts to shake. He's terrified, because Daniel Jr is telling the TRUTH and he knows it. He is crying again, because his entire story relies on his lie that he never saw any injury to the baby.
12:55 The mother, Jessica, gives a huge sigh of relief to hear that Daniel Jr doesn't know the details of his own CPS case.
14:00 Jessica glares in Daniel Jr's direction as he explains that he was providing urine for his father. When Daniel says he was doing so even BEFORE Dylan was born as well as after (meaning the father was also on meth along with her the entire time, contrary to the parents made up excuses), she begins breathing in and out very hard.
17:38 As all the lawyers chorus that Daniel Jr is "free to go," both Groves begin crying again. It is sinking in that they will NOT be free to go, and that Daniel Jr's testimony has just guaranteed they will BOTH be going to prison, not just Jessica as they'd planned.

My biggest question is why was a 15-year-old boy removed from the home and an infant left there? That makes absolutely no sense at all especially since the infant was taken at birth because of drugs.
Apparently, he was removed from the home *after* the death of the infant if he was removed in April and the baby is estimated to have died in March.

Just in case anyone is wondering... At 8:07 when the camera turned to Andrea Bowling (the AMAZING foster mom), I think she mouthed "I feel so bad for him." (I'm assuming she is referring to the older son that's on the stand). 😣
If that is what she said, which I'm pretty positive she did, I agree 1000%! I couldn't imagine having to testify WHILE FACING my parents. I mean he knows what they did, so he knows he has to do this, but omg, I cannot even begin to imagine what this must've felt like. I feel so heartbroken for the older brother and also for the foster mom, Andrea. 😭😫
Whatever may happen to them while they are in prison, they absolutely DESERVE what ever comes to them. From what I have heard, inmates don't take too kindly of evil/abusive/murdering baby killers!!
