He probably saved the videos at a higher resolution then renders them at a lower resolution as to upscale the quality. So in reality his video is super compressed into a smaller res vid. Hope this helps :)
Jose Hernandez You can't upscale quality just by changing the resolution. Upscaling quality doesn't exist in post. It can only be done by the source. Basicly, if you shot things poorly with the camera or the camera sucks, it is garbage. that's the same as saying: hmm, on the left side of this person the lights were perfect, however on the right side the lights were a bit green. you think you can make the lights correct without actually changing the physical lamps you shot with?
Jens Hendriks I might have confused you. I'm not saying he upscaled, im saying he compressed the high definition video to a smaller resolution resulting in a downsampling process to occur. You're right though, a bad quality video will always be a bad quality video.
I used a monopod and gorillapod mini here and there with a portable battery to recharge my phone since Filmic Pro uses a lot of power. You don't really need any of that though since most was just a steady hand and a over-cranking the frame rate.
I have done 3 videos in my channel with my iPhone 7 and I can't deny the quality of smartphones nowadays to get cinematic shots is amazing! Tho it's true DSLR still wins the game but smartphones now is somehow capable to compete in a way.
perfect example for the fact that camera gear doesn't matter as much as everybody says. Mostly you can see that it was filmed with a smartphone but that's not important if you got your framing awesome!
That's cute. The latest version of Filmic Pro (6.0) is pretty amazing honestly and even has the option for a "flat" profile (LOG). It's kind of neat and worth experimenting with.
As a small filmmaker who strives to use only the resources around me to capture footage, I highly recommend filming on your iPhone. Obviously, if you have better equipment, then use that, but I prefer using iPhones because they're lightweight and always on you. I just use the normal camera on my 6s and edit everything in FCP X, and I think the quality comes out pretty well.
+MonkRage Indeed Android is much more customizable. I enjoyed using a Nexus 4 for a while but once I returned to the iPhone with the 5S I realized I actually enjoyed the simplicity.
Hey sorry to disturb you I hope you can see this, I couldn't find the video where you describe the equipment that you used with your iphone for shooting this video. I don't know much about cameras or video shooting but I'm getting into it at the moment cos I'm working on a project and I'm gonna need to film some stuff with my iphone 6s plus so I'm looking for more information and you're video is the best one I found. Thanks✌🏼️
+Aya Mooh I never made it. Basically you would want to have a monopod, smartphone grip, and maybe some cheap phone lenses. I'd probably pack an external battery too, but you don't really need anything honestly. Smartphones are that good now. It's really more about technique than gear when shooting with a smartphone.
ENorK TV but it's worth every penny .... the gyroscope in the dji is of much more higher quality and costs 10x the price of a regular gyroscope in any regular smartphone!
Wow Tony you did an incredible job with this video. Top notch professional music, dialog and video. Please make more of these and I really do hope you get a lot more views!
The great thing about smartphone's is that anyone can start filming or photographing and at some point it just clicks and they begin see nice compositions everywhere, at least that's what I believe.
+GVN Productions I'm glad you enjoyed it! Anyone with an smartphone can make content these days. This is especially true for journalists who can make great use of these tools.
I normally don't comment on videos but I have to say that was very well done. I was looking for more of just to see what the phone can do but ur shots are incredible! I was not excepting to see that and you def proved to me that good videos can be shot with a smartphone because this is the future of the film industry.
It was mostly handheld and spur of the moment type stuff. The monopod is great for adding stability and the smartphone lenses can be fun to use (although crummy quality) but honestly you don't really need anything.
Yeah I totally get it. This video itself is more about how anyone with a smartphone can get decent footage regardless of brand. I just went around and shot random things with my 5S and the results were nice. Originally this video was meant to be about shooting at 120fps with the 5S but I took so long I upgraded my phone before finishing it haha.
Tony Mauro Ruiz yeah i would be amazing to see also lenses for example tangerine is made on an iphone but its awesome to see what you can do with what you have to see what can you with it
this clip, especially you, inspires me to get myself to do something that I used to love, recording some video to keep the moment of life:) although i am not good at it, I will try to do it again :) really thank u !
It's pretty amazing what you can do now. The iPhone XS Max is incredible but any phone can produce beautiful power content. Just learn the limitations and work around them.
The camera doesn't matter as much as many think. Note, that's not me saying it doesn't matter at all. It matters more in terms of work flow. However many great videos you see are a result of framing, stabilization, creative post editing and use of features (high frame rate/slow motion, time-lapse, music, the right cuts, b-roll, etc.), focused storytelling or thoughtful direction and of course lighting whether controlled or carefully selected natural light locations to get the mood/tone you want. The iPhone camera is great for what it is. But what's even greater is the effort put behind a great video as the camera is only a piece of the creative process.
At first I was curious… But then I saw the footage off of the BART car in Oakland and knew you were in the bay… Great to see more bay area creators… Great Video!!!
Hi Tony, amazing video collection you have! Especially I liked the Chinese New Year video in San Francisco. I'd like to see a couple more videos: 1. explaining how you color grade shots, 2. use the dslr to get stable shots. Thanks and keep making more of those amazing videos!
Reconsidering in upgrading to the iPhone 7 plus from Note 5. I've got a degree in Animation, so maybe I'll collaborate with film on this camera you got.
Apple should hire you to showcase the competence of their iphone camera.
Wayward Edward I'm amazed that they haven't hired him yet😀
Wayward Edward Nah because of the App thats why the Montage is Good..
Wayward Edward That's because the post production does basically all the work, color grading and good montage does the rest
Gablox -Roblox Gameplays- Hi robloxian
Remco Kroon Samsung vs apple in camera?? Apple is way better
Is no one in the comments talking about how fucking awesome this guy's voice is?
with slow motion anything is cool tbh
Haha yeah mostly true. It just sucks that the resolution is so low and the dynamic range so limited but for a phone I'm impressed.
Tony Mauro Ruiz are we related?
dude what?
Jose Ruiz
lmao
What if u make an ugly face while laughing?
How do you keep the phone from compressing your quality? It looks amazing here on RUclips.
Jose Hernandez okay, now i understand what you meant... thanks for the info!
Jens Hendriks yeah man, no problem :)
color grading on point
It's a lot more fun now that Filmic Pro supports a "flat" profile (LOG). It's kind of neat and worth experimenting with.
You gave me motivation to do something good with my own phone, not be frustrated that I don't have money for something better. Thank you so much.
Thanks for watching!
Yo the slow- mo looks great. Great video.
Gosh!! I loved every second of this! I'm an amateur myself, and I just bought the SE for videography. Hopefully my videos come out as great as yours!
I'd be interested in seeing the hardware items that you use to help you film the videos.
I used a monopod and gorillapod mini here and there with a portable battery to recharge my phone since Filmic Pro uses a lot of power. You don't really need any of that though since most was just a steady hand and a over-cranking the frame rate.
Thanks matey. 👍🏻
the slow motion and the music is one of the trick, it really makes the video smoother.
I have done 3 videos in my channel with my iPhone 7 and I can't deny the quality of smartphones nowadays to get cinematic shots is amazing! Tho it's true DSLR still wins the game but smartphones now is somehow capable to compete in a way.
Everything in slowmo is cool😎
David Tang my nut wont be
It’s 24 fps
David Tang its not slo mo
what apps did you use to color correct some of that footage?
Jara Greene the apps aren't that good you could use the free version of davinci resolve on your computer
The iVideo Guy Literally just call it Resolve 12. Their aren't even major differences for consumer's
davinci resolve 12 free version or paid one
+Arvind Ramavat No lol. It says in the description what editor I used.
Tony Mauro Ruiz HOW DID YOU EDIT IT
perfect example for the fact that camera gear doesn't matter as much as everybody says. Mostly you can see that it was filmed with a smartphone but that's not important if you got your framing awesome!
but how do you get this much dynamic range?
That's cute. The latest version of Filmic Pro (6.0) is pretty amazing honestly and even has the option for a "flat" profile (LOG). It's kind of neat and worth experimenting with.
The golden gate bridge and the plane after it were just perfect shots!
DUDE ! This is amazing !! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
dude these shots are sickk!! Keep up the awesome work mann. New sub :)
This is amazing !
KarlySmiles not really
KarlySmiles everything looks cool in slo-mo..and piano music
KarlySmiles it really is

ayyy. SF State represent!
you make the Bay Area seem unreal. great job!
Haha nice. I'm surprised no one has recognized me.
The dynamics of the shots are amazing! Well done they turned out great!
I really want an iphone for the amazing camera quality and wider range of apps, but android is just more customizable.. why can't I afford both.
+MonkRage Indeed Android is much more customizable. I enjoyed using a Nexus 4 for a while but once I returned to the iPhone with the 5S I realized I actually enjoyed the simplicity.
Wow I've never imagine this is even possible ! I'm amazed 😮
Hey sorry to disturb you I hope you can see this, I couldn't find the video where you describe the equipment that you used with your iphone for shooting this video. Tony Mauro Ruiz thank you so much 🙏🏻
Tony Mauro Ruiz how you make your video like a movie I mean its not complete screen...??? Please answer
This is awesome :)
Loving the slo-mo Tony. Glad to discover Lapse also, I hadn't come across it before watching your video.
+Richard Lackey Yeah it's a great app.
Yo, if you were to make short films, I'd dedicate my time to watching them all. You have serious talent dude!!
No shaking
fendybargo How can he do that?
tripod
SpaceCinema not tripod...it's called gimbal a device with a gravity and motion sensor
av fc fb f gu k which also cost fuckin 300$
ENorK TV but it's worth every penny .... the gyroscope in the dji is of much more higher quality and costs 10x the price of a regular gyroscope in any regular smartphone!
Wow Tony you did an incredible job with this video. Top notch professional music, dialog and video. Please make more of these and I really do hope you get a lot more views!
+John J Thanks!
what did you do to stabilize the video so well??
Hitnoh Most of it was shot at 120fps so it's in slow motion.
2 years, and still amazing video

i love my city, san francisco is perfect for filming.
Your composition is fucking excellent
The great thing about smartphone's is that anyone can start filming or photographing and at some point it just clicks and they begin see nice compositions everywhere, at least that's what I believe.
Thanks for the tips! I've switched around from iPhone to a camera I am able to use and enjoy using the iPhone since it's smaller. Great shots!
Hi..how do you do that cinematic screen size? Does the filmic pro have that feature? TIA
Filmic Pro has options for various aspect ratios.
kemamai use 2.39:1 aspect ratio in filmic pro
I dont know
This video is truly inspiring,I'm surprised it doesn't have more views
looks really good partner
this is so aesthetically pleasing
this video calm me
Creativity plus Skills .Thats what is required to do more with less.
Well done brother!!
Super nice video, subscribed!!!
This is so inspiring to do more filming with my iPhone 6s plus with filmicpro and the iographer. Thank you
+Ricka Vessel Yeah it's amazing what we can shoot with these phones now!
I would love to film on my iphone but the problem is 16 gb wont give me that much space for the films
Check out my video on the Transcend Jet Drive Go. Lightning USB drives are pretty affordable now and worth checking out.
Tony Mauro Ruiz okay thnks bro 👍🏻
Great video! This is a great example of "making the best out of what you have" you don't need expensive gear to make amazing work!
+GVN Productions I'm glad you enjoyed it! Anyone with an smartphone can make content these days. This is especially true for journalists who can make great use of these tools.
One word: dayum
what is "dayum" ?
I normally don't comment on videos but I have to say that was very well done. I was looking for more of just to see what the phone can do but ur shots are incredible! I was not excepting to see that and you def proved to me that good videos can be shot with a smartphone because this is the future of the film industry.
You should check out Vimeo they have some beautiful stuff on there that's shot on iPhone. I'd also check out Apple's ads.
Hi Tony, I'm just wondering how do you color grading the footage? Cheers.
Premier Pro's curves.
You have a really good talent. I can't imagine how could it be with a DSLR camera
I wish I had a Red Scarlet and some Zeiss lenses!
Man behind the gun
I completely agree! This app is amazing. I also used this app for my latest film. Very pleased with the results i'm getting with it!
+FLAME ENTERTAINMENT I checked out the film and the results are great! Thanks for watching!
+Tony Mauro Ruiz I appreciate the feedback! Thanks! By the way, your channel has very informative and professional videos! Keep it up!
is this good for vlogging ?
I would say yes but I'd opt for one with a foldable screen instead.
takarai no
JUPITE Channel
Tripod, black bars, and music make anything look cinematic
Who needs a camera
whatsuplumi me
whatsuplumi me!
ye just need adobe premiere pro or ps to make anything best out of it
This video is awesome! Great work. I really want to see a video on how you got the awesome shots/accessories you use
It was mostly handheld and spur of the moment type stuff. The monopod is great for adding stability and the smartphone lenses can be fun to use (although crummy quality) but honestly you don't really need anything.
Tony Mauro Ruiz I actually just bought the Neewer lenses you recommended. Definitely worth the price!
Whats the first app called?
filmic pro
LiXon $10 ;^;
only 720p? :-/
I actually watched this on a desktop computer many times and there's only the 720p option.
thats because he used slow motion for the video. For slow motion mode in iphone 6s, you can only choose 1080p at 120fps or 720p at 240 fps.
Some amazing shots there man! Keep up the good work!
samsung fans crying
@Quotes about Life you need to learn some english.
Thanks for this! I've been trying to find a way to make my iPhone a better camera. This a a great video!
im starting to see apple under another light, still i dont want to spend 900€ for a phone :\
Yeah I totally get it. This video itself is more about how anyone with a smartphone can get decent footage regardless of brand. Jeremy Curpen iPhone 6s costs around 200-300 now
Relco12 OMG REALLY!! Can you send me the link of where you bought the iphone at that cheap of a price?? I've been looking for a good deal lol
Vasavou Just try to find some good offers on eBay. refine filters, compare prices and ebay seller rating to avoid getting scammed
i really love your work man. 🔥👌🏼
Your filming skills are phenomenal!
I clicked on this video expecting him to say "to start, don't hold your phone in portrait" but he's already conquered that step.
Iphone Have A SlowMotion Video Type.Thats Amazing!
this clip, especially you, inspires me to get myself to do something that I used to love, recording some video to keep the moment of life:) although i am not good at it, I will try to do it again :) really thank u !
Incredible shots. Are you using a gimbal?
No.
2.35 & 6.00 beautiful shots among all other beautiful shots.
U r one of the most talented cameramen,,u hv shared lot of ideas..thanks
Really lovely stuff. Some of it is the iPhone setup and a lot of it is you. Good work!
Jonathan Thomas Stratman Thanks!
Awesome! you shot so beautifully man. What great work. San Francisco truly is a beautiful city...
great video, but how u can get those nice slowmotion 60fps?
3:10 is really where the magic starts.. great video mate..
Thanks for watching.
i’ve used the iphone for our film project and it turned out nice actually
It's pretty amazing what you can do now. The iPhone XS Max is incredible but any phone can produce beautiful power content. Just learn the limitations and work around them.
Whyyy its so smooth, how can it possible?
That night shot has a good exposure & that color grading. Teach us how! ❤️
Cool Slowmotion with smooth!!
Those are some incredibly beautiful shots man!
Soo natural light is KEY
Whaaaat?! These are hecka good shots!
Hi Tony!
Your video is great!!!!! And cinematic too!! Woowwww.. Makes me love iPhone more :p
Everything always looks good in slow motion
Great video. Short and to the point with the initial tips on app recommendations.
Incredible shots..... absolutely like films
this shows that you don't neee to buy expensive cameras to film AMAZING content! love the video!
good day i am very impressed on you video especially the slow mo part can u share your setting for us and also the timelapse? thank you

I like the video before watching. Good job man that quality is "SICK" 👏👏👏
Love the following shots
Nice movie using smartphone 👍 love the slowmo btw
Good video for it being recorded on a phone. Really shows the video perspective!
At first I was curious… But then I saw the footage off of the BART car in Oakland and knew you were in the bay… Great to see more bay area creators… Great Video!!!
wow some of these shots are very very beautiful
Hi Tony, amazing video collection you have! Especially I liked the Chinese New Year video in San Francisco. I'd like to see a couple more videos: 1. explaining how you color grade shots, 2. use the dslr to get stable shots. Thanks and keep making more of those amazing videos!
Still amazed with the wide range
iphone 6 or 6s can record in 120fps?
Reconsidering in upgrading to the iPhone 7 plus from Note 5. I've got a degree in Animation, so maybe I'll collaborate with film on this camera you got.
What I found to be quite nice is that the new iPhones shoot 60fps on 1080p to 4K so I just slow it down 1/2x on iMovie (iOS) and it’s awesome.
can you please what lenses you use and do you you a telephoto lens?
