coming to this after watching the Metaphor reviews and the discrepancy between the experiences is jarring. the Metaphor reviews were just _constant_ glazing while glossing over genuine issues, while these Rebirth reviews seem as if they're trying to knock it down for pretty arbitrary reasons. look, you can be critical of Rebirth. they are absolutely good criticisms to make regarding its size, aspects of the open world, minigames, and even the story. Metaphor, likewise, has a lot of tremendous achievements behind it, and going out of your way to levy complaints against it is petty. also, your personal opinion of certain things should absolutely play a role in a review. BUT. these guys are _professional_ video game critics paid by the top names in the industry, and their reviews here are way more subjective appraisals of a game than quantitative critique. deducting a point from a game you otherwise view as an "all timer" because you didn't jive with the story in the end is critical malpractice. in the same vein, claiming that the second game in a trilogy made you feel like the game wasn't "complete" and knocking the game down several pegs because of that is _ridiculous._ also, the vast majority of Imran's issues are not _real_ problems, but rather a humongous amount of nitpicks based on his personal philosophy. it would be one thing if these were the reviews for personal enjoyment. in that sense, they would be totally valid. however, these are reviews based in gaming publications and that carries with it a level of responsibility in analysis that simply is not here. the best response I've heard to a central complaint here regarding the open world is this: you can not like the radio towers, but to discredit the amount of effort, development, and simple quality that it has otherwise is to be intentionally contrarian. this isn't a case of Square going to Ubisoft and saying "make a FF game," and Rebirth being the result. this is reviewers being so wrapped up in their distaste for one or two things that they're disparaging the entire presentation just to make a point.
NGL I totally disregard anyone's opinion who hasn't played the original. They can have one, and it's fine to give new comers a perspective, but it's honestly meaningless to people who have been living in this universe since '97.

@@grantlawrence4600it’s unfortunate but in order to fully appreciate this game and the subsequent sequel, it is almost an absolute must to play the original , because although the name says “remake” and they love to advertise newcomers are welcomed, it is technically a sequel, that doesn’t mean that they failed in the story it just means that they failed in giving context, to which is why they didn’t say that they were lost with the characters, just not sure why they should care, i have noticed that a lot of individuals who play remake do subsequently end up playing the original which is i believe a must.

I'm curious overall how people new to the franchise with remake will feel about the minigames. Seems like so many fans of the original are excited for that, but I can see why newer folks could see it as "filler".
@@tangentkatz FF7 was a variety game. It deliberately did not have a consistent gameplay loop. Yes its filler, but it also breaks up monotony of repetition. it's a double-edged sword. You could design a game thats just combat and story. but youre likely going to need a lot more breaks.
Props on Tim addressing all of the sponsorship stuff in detail. As long as you guys are transparent about being sponsored I don't see how there is a problem.
It just makes it difficult to trust what they are saying... Could also be why Blessing kept talking in circles when trying to give his "review". Tbh it's embarrassing that they took that sponsorship and it's a big hit to their credibility.
Minigames was a huge part of the original and the mandatory ones dont really require you to win or do well so im not sure what the complaint is. This is one of the hardest plats ever. The final VR brawler and the final 3 super hard Vr fights are ridiculous.
Saying that the FFXVI combat is better is absurd, that game requires no strategy. Imagine having to use actual strategy in battles instead of just button mashing
@@JTsavage7577why on earth would you want someone to review a game that's not a fan of the series? And why would they not take advertising the past few months for a game that they are all fucking psyched about??

Blessing saying he doesn’t like Cloud is very interesting, considering he’s easily my favorite video game character of all time, his story is extremely powerful to me. Of course all that comes in part 3 tho lol
Cloud is a flawed character. He has clear vices. That's what makes him great! He's a shade of gray. You know who I don't love? Zack (at least how he is presented in Crisis Core). Zack is a 1-dimension, tropey noble hero archetype with NO flaws. That is not good writing, imo.
Totally agree - it's usually people who do not even try to understand Cloud's character and how complex he is. Whilst I feel the devs have sidelined Cloud a bit in order to emphasise other characters, he is still a brilliant main protagonist and does not deserve the unjustified criticism that he often gets.
lots of gamers are miserable nowadays thats what happens when you're spoiled with this advanced technology i dont consider myself a gamer anymore just a gaming enthusiast embarrassing
That's fair, but let's remember, a 5/5 doesn't mean perfect, it just means a game they really love. Tim having loads of nitpicks and negatives is valid, just as his love for it is.
Tim seems like the kind of guy who is actually pretty good at telling himself whatever he wants to hear and just living in his own reality at peace, despite whatever is actually happening.
Blessing " 4 out of 5 " also Blessing , " favorite game of all time" and tells us several things that are great with this game. He is always so wishy washy with his explanations its unreal. The face of video games?
*The Empire Strikes Back, The Two Towers, Fallen Kingdom* were all critically divisive on arrival, espeically how they ended without actually ending at all, and each is now seen as a masterpiece. i've no doubt *Rebirth* will be looked back on in the same way once the story is complete.
this shit is already seen as a masterpiece and better than the first. i don't think its gonna change the minds of people who already don't like it though
Hmmmm I just finished the game but I don’t really agree with Blessing’s criticism on the plot considering that it’s part 2 of a trilogy. Still, it is a phenomenal game.
The way everyone is talking about Rebirth really does make it sound like the Infinite Wealth to Remake's Like A Dragon and i cannot believe the weird synergy between these two franchises and I'm so freaking happy about it. I said this on KFGD comments and I'll say it again: Like a Bahamut: Infinite Gil
It's interesting how we can complain about there being too much stuff in the open world but when there isn't, we complain about it being too bare. Are we never happy? lol
No one complains about having too much to do. The problem is that sometimes content that should be optional, isn’t. I do think there are some people who do not like lots of content, but they are in a very small minority. Especially since games cost $70 nowadays. But for the most part, I agree with some of the tales that pacing needs to be better, and they should only include minigames if they truly relate to journey the characters go through.
When FF7 Remake released nearly every reviewer said the same thing about the story, but as time went on fans and content creators analyzed the nuances of the story are realized everything makes sense and nothing was confusing or convoluted. Lets wait and see a week after release
This feels like when Bless gave Street Fighter 6 a 4 because of some minor quibbles at the time of release. I think he would give that game a 5 now lol
I just started listening but I'm curious about how many of blessings "they didn't deliver on this" will get delivered in the 3rd game. Seems like that's the thing that sucks for people who haven't played the original since they don't have a reference point to things that are happening
Hey lads metacritic called and said your reviews are lacking its 3 points below elden ring and tears of the kingdom so how you got to a 3 out of 5 is beyond me
Does this game have the Fort Condor minigame from the Intermission DLC? I never got into it in the OG FFVII but got really hooked on the new version of it that Yuffie plays in that DLC. Edit: never mind, thanks Blessing!
I'm still excited about FF7 Rebirth but I will say your hints on the story stuff has me a bit nervous lol. I was not exactly thrilled with the ending of rebirth (i have no idea what happened).
I’m in a weird place with this Remake trilogy because Final Fantasy is far and away my favorite video game franchise of all-time. BUT I never played VII. I grew up playing IX as my favorite and I never went backwards until I was an adult, in which I’ve only played IV and VI as entries prior to IX. I don’t have context for anything regarding Final Fantasy VII outside of the most spoiled spoiler in video game history, obviously. So, I went into Remake not really knowing what to expect and loved it *except* for the ending, which I kinda hated. I felt like it turned into Kingdom Hearts-type of nonsensical storytelling with Fate and multiple timelines and so on. I still thought it was a great game overall, but I was burned by the ending. That’s why I’m a bit shocked by Roger being in a relatively similar position saying that he loved Remake’s ending, but disliked Rebirth’s ending for feeling left in the dark. I’m kinda just confused how he didn’t feel that same way with Remake’s ending, and it makes me even more curious about wtf happens in Rebirth’s ending lol.
You should play the OG VII because Remake was a sequel and not a remake. You won't understand the story otherwise, and there are far more big spoilers in the OG game than just the death of a beloved character
I’m so glad to hear that there’s more fort condor. I became obsessed with fort condor in intermission and I was so upset there wasn’t anymore. I agree that there should be a spin off or mobile version of it.
3/5… mainlining a game like this in 40 hours and then your part of a review panel. How? Thats ridiculous! No one is expecting you to platinum it but mainlining it totally! Hahaha I ignored his score! This game is flawed undoubtedly however it’s a masterpiece! I even said to my GF whilst she was watching me play through.. she doesn’t play games but was obsessed with this and seeing how it played out! If that’s not a great sign of a great game I dunno what is! This game maybe my favourite game of all time.
Kinda funny as so shite for reviews. Stellar Blade Review only person played it and the other two.played the demo and they passed it off as a full review.
I don't know who the hell thought it was a good idea to start pushing Roger so much on gaming content - nevermind being part of the review for one of the biggest games of the year - but it's a huge miss tbh. From what I've seen the guy doesn't have a clue, and seems to purposely act overly critical in some lame attempt to look more legit (which is just doing the opposite if anything). Having revisited this review after beating the game, his score and overall review are honestly laughable. And tbh I thought Blessing was poor here too, but nothing compared to Roger lmao. Wasn't Roger brought in as an editor, behind the scenes sorta guy? I just have no idea why they think we should be listening to his opinion on these games, and that's becoming even more obvious after shows like this.
@@Shrewdy1 I completely agree. I still think Imrans take has some good points but then again I do think Imran was one of the better panellists. Dare I say it’s my favourite game of all time. Maybe that’s just blinkered eyes. But for a game to make you feel that way? Says a lot don’t it.
There takes especially blessings on them not finishing certain things when knowing there is a third game. Like be forreal. When watching a show you don’t get upset when it continues to another episode or season. Like be serious right now.
Glad to see this review. Looks like if you treat this game more like a Kingdom Hearts experience, you might have an easier time with the pacing, mini games, and checklist, which is what I am looking for for this kind of game despite it being a FF7 story, and this is mostly due the style of combat/gameplay loop in this remake series. Looking forward to playing it. But now this also gets me more excited for KH4 than post rebirth tbh.
I mean listen to how much sh&^ was talked on the game in this podcast though. You'd think there would be a conflict of interest, but I guess not. Ethically sound at the end of the day. But yes, it could have gone sour from that

I'm with you. It's difference in philosophy. Some people want a simple gameplay loop that maintains clean pacing. Others want a ton of variety to break up the monotony. I'm with you; I definitely prefer variety content. It's much easier for me to play a game hours on end without breaks when there's variety.

Miles Morales is still my favorite so lean and awesome. And that game makes you beat it twice to get the plat and still felt like less of a slog lmao.
Yeah this is one of those game i'm not gonna gain much from a review, I know I like the gameplay so i'm going in for the story and that can't really be discussed without spoilers
Tim gets it man.
Roger, at this point in the original game, the player has all the same reservations you have. That makes me feel good about how things are going.
From what he was saying, it sounds like there is a certain moment that drops in the original that doesn’t land quite the same here. IYKYK
@@Jlpeaksthats what I’m a afraid of lol. I’m hoping that newcomers can experience it in a way that I did when I played og as a kid. Although I think they may just mess that part up.
@@Highfreqgamingshe doesn’t die here it’s obvious they just spoiled it in the video by saying that
"Blessing is our lead reviewer"
Annnnd I'm done here. 😮💨
Never got Imran's thoughts on the game because Blessing interrupted him.
coming to this after watching the Metaphor reviews and the discrepancy between the experiences is jarring. the Metaphor reviews were just _constant_ glazing while glossing over genuine issues, while these Rebirth reviews seem as if they're trying to knock it down for pretty arbitrary reasons.
look, you can be critical of Rebirth. they are absolutely good criticisms to make regarding its size, aspects of the open world, minigames, and even the story.
All subjective but scoring lower than FF16 is wild to me.
So glad Imran has the correct take that 7Remake/Rebirth shits on 16.

NGL I totally disregard anyone's opinion who hasn't played the original. They can have one, and it's fine to give new comers a perspective, but it's honestly meaningless to people who have been living in this universe since '97.
@@impotenceauraWhat?!
The game is advertised as a remake of an old game. If you can't tell a story on it's own merits (without NEEDING knowledge of the original AND Crisis Core), then you've failed to tell a good story.
@@aaronherreradominguez18 While I think it’s best that an official review is from someone who has played the original, I think someone who hasn’t played the original still has a unique perspective that I’m interested in hearing
Also, why are these people SO negative?! Talk more about what you loved from the game please if you're going to give it a high score. Like even Roger who gave it a 3/5 made it sound like he thinks the game is really a 2/5 because he only talked about the negatives.
I played Episode intermission and ff16 recently to get ready for this game, and I vastly prefer the FF7R system to the more real time system of FF16
Sounds like Rog needs to really play FF7 if he doesn’t understand a lot of stuff in here
I think you missed the part where three of us who have played the original also didn’t understand a lot at the end

This is a good sign. I'm glad they're taking FF7 into a new direction. Makes things more exciting.
@@ThwipThwipBoom Its only exciting if you can understand the story but lets just hope the 3rd game has a satisfying ending that makes all three games make sense in the end.
Mini games were a huge part of the original.
3/5 is Wild!
Feigning ignance of a game being the 2nd in a trilogy just to nitpick things you didnt get immediately renders your opinion moot...

Gotta love Tim reviewing Final Fantasy. Feels right.
Not when they got paid to advertise the game they're still reviewing though... I get they're already fans of the franchise. Idk if I like that.
@@JTsavage7577why on earth would you want someone to review a game that's not a fan of the series? And why would they not take advertising the past few months for a game that they are all fucking psyched about??
Not the lead reviewer here though - Bless is (which doesn't feel right for me imo given its a Final Fantasy game). But I understand why Tim isn't lead reviewer given his explanation, it's about as well as they could handle it after being sponsored by Rebirth in the lead up.
Most people don't like him, I love him. I felt in the minority on that.
I can understand not liking before the reveal.
Totally agree - it's usually people who do not even try to understand Cloud's character and how complex he is. Whilst I feel the devs have sidelined Cloud a bit in order to emphasise other characters, he is still a brilliant main protagonist and does not deserve the unjustified criticism that he often gets.

I love how Tim can have many complaints but still gives the game a 5/5 😅
That's fair, but let's remember, a 5/5 doesn't mean perfect, it just means a game they really love. Tim having loads of nitpicks and negatives is valid, just as his love for it is.

Aerith is dead there should be no confusion I can't understand how any of you are confused by the ending lol
Hmmmm I just finished the game but I don’t really agree with Blessing’s criticism on the plot considering that it’s part 2 of a trilogy. Still, it is a phenomenal game.
44:48 wHaT's tHe dEaL with Cloud?
The way everyone is talking about Rebirth really does make it sound like the Infinite Wealth to Remake's Like A Dragon and i cannot believe the weird synergy between these two franchises and I'm so freaking happy about it. I said this on KFGD comments and I'll say it again:
Like a Bahamut: Infinite Gil
31:45 Lol Barrett popping in
It's interesting how we can complain about there being too much stuff in the open world but when there isn't, we complain about it being too bare.
"I'm ending this game like this character sucks and now I have to wait years???" I'm guessing Blessing hasn't played FF14 before and met Alphinaud.
When FF7 Remake released nearly every reviewer said the same thing about the story, but as time went on fans and content creators analyzed the nuances of the story are realized everything makes sense and nothing was confusing or convoluted. Lets wait and see a week after release

THE DON IS BACK!
This feels like when Bless gave Street Fighter 6 a 4 because of some minor quibbles at the time of release. I think he would give that game a 5 now lol
Blessing had to have played yuffie DLC. Condor was only in there. Not in remake base
Lol I actually forgot about that
50:48 that's one way to pronounce Chocobo
Ive missed Imran so much! Welcome back!!
I'm still excited about FF7 Rebirth but I will say your hints on the story stuff has me a bit nervous lol. I was not exactly thrilled with the ending of rebirth (i have no idea what happened).
It's very similar here.
I think you mean to say Remake at the end part
God... I want to play this game so bad it hurts. And... 16.... And Intergrade. And. BGIII! My backlog is legendary.
Barret: This phantom pain...it won't stop hurting. The arm I lost. The comrades I lost. They won't stop hurting.
🤣
For me listen to Easy Allies with Max for a proper critique of this game.
Like you I finished it. It’s nothing short of a flawed masterpiece. I loved it. Dare I say it’s my favourite game of all time. Maybe that’s just blinkered eyes. But for a game to make you feel that way? Says a lot don’t it.
There are minigame specific control options in the settings. Even in the demo.
giving this game a 3 out of 5 is treason
Playing through remake right now and I am looking forward to the PC version of Rebirth
Thank you for this review and special podcast episode!
Cant wait for next thursday

Once barret kicked in with his opinion I was eased. I never really gelled with remake, like it was fine. So hearing this gives me hopes
3/5. Jesus bro. Just want a hot take aye.
Real slippery slope getting paid to promote a game and then doing a review. Transparent ethics don’t really mean the ethics are good 🤷♂️
I mean listen to how much sh&^ was talked on the game in this podcast though. You'd think there would be a conflict of interest, but I guess not. Ethically sound at the end of the day. But yes, it could have gone sour from that
I think the reviews were honest. I mean that dude givin a 3/5 was really the lowest I've seen so far in any review.
I dont understand this modern thinking of tp much variety and length i loved the ff7 remake and the oroginal is my favourite game and the thing i wished we had more of is good sidewuests and minigames to say the amount of varoety is opressive is a rosiculous statement it is the reason why yakuza does so well
I'm with you. It's difference in philosophy. Some people want a simple gameplay loop that maintains clean pacing. Others want a ton of variety to break up the monotony. I'm with you; I definitely prefer variety content. It's much easier for me to play a game hours on end without breaks when there's variety.
I don't think Rebirth is really meant for people like Roger, who don't have much buy in with the franchise.
Blessin not having the conviction to go with his gut
