"Every Dune movie, except the OG foundational one... and that pretty good SciFi Miniseries" doesn't have much of a ring to it. I agree. Cowards. As punishment they should have to do "Every 'A Star is Born' Ever"... like, every freaking one.
That’s basically like saying they should’ve done the animated LOTR before reviewing Peter Jackson’s, except the original Dune is worse. That movie has really no place in this series and isn’t essential to anyone who’s excited to see part 2
@@Mrs.Garrison69 All the more reason that they are COWARDS for not watching it. Besides, it would have been fun to watch them rag on how bonkers it is.

Oh, I listen to Matt's podcast! It's pretty good. And I'm so happy to see Kevin on screen again!!! The Children of Dune miniseries with James McAvoy was an adaptation of the Dune Messiah and Children of Dune novels.
So happy to see Kevin back on camera! I had the pleasure of working in the VFX of these movies! Fun times! Can't wait for the review of the second next week!
watched Part I again last night on UHD, and saw Part II in our first screening today, and holy shit, i am so excited for Kev and other Dune fans to see this. it is astounding how much they covered in Part II, and how breathtaking it is to behold.
Bullets dont cause big explosions when contacting shields, its energy weapons that do that, which is why in GENERAL, even in this advanced civilization, you don't see a lot of energy based weapons even though they do exist. Nick had it right the first time. Shield technology has made bullets obsolete for the most part, at least in terms of using them against people who would have access to shields like royals. This is why they use blades.
So so so happy you guys did Dune in review! Love this episode! I have now come full circle on Kevin. When I first started watching KF content I really didn't like him or his lame takes, Now I love this fucker and this episode he is at his best! Kev is Dune in review MVP! (You guys should do the Blade Runners at some point. Villeneuve is God!)
Conspiracies in Review with Greg, Nick, and any other Free Thinkers would be literally amazing content. Moon Landing in review. 9/11 in review. JFK assassination in review. Mandela Effect in review. Flat Earth in review. The possibilities are endless.
Fun fact about the bagpipes that play in the movie, they’re actually a guitar. The guitarist Guthrie Govan (one of the best) is playing into an FX processor called the AxeFX and it is making the guitar sound that way.
For those looking for an in-depth recap and setup for part two, the video entitled “everything you need to remember from dune part one” covers pretty much everything!
Tim was right about this podcast review, Kevin is making me enjoy the first movie so much more with all this context and now I'm actually interested in watching part 2 after I wasn't that impressed with part 1. Great job Kevin come back for more on camera let them figure out the internet😂
The real tragedy of Dr. Yue is that in the books they make it abundantly clear that he knows he's not getting his wife back. Before even walking into the room he knows he'll never leave it. When he asks for his wife to be freed from her suffering he is asking for them to stop torturing her and let her die already, but he knows he has to play it off like he thinks they're going to actually free her, or else the baron won't kill her to spite him.
I watched Dune Part One a few weeks ago and was underwhelmed. I didn't think it was bad, it just felt like not much happened and was clearly not a full story. Part of my problem was not understanding the context and motivations for a lot of the characters. I saw Dune Part Two yesterday and liked it more, but didn't like the direction things were going and didn't understand certain choices made. This In Review helped cleared up so much for me and I'm much more interested in learning more about the lore. I think I'll pick up the book, then revisit the first movie and see if I appreciate it more!
Also, Kevin ur right. Jessica wasnt trying to create the one. She kept the boy because she loved Leto, and also simply just loved her son. The mothers love of her child, regardless of the child's sex, superceded her bene gesserit directive. It just so happened that Paul was the type of kid who had what it took to become the one. When the reverend mother gives paul the box test, thats her basically being like "alright jessica, you didnt listen and kept the boy. Now Im gonna have to do the gom jabbar thing. Hopefully your boy is the one, cuz if hes not, you definitely fucked up your mission AND ur about to lose your child. Hope all the years you had with the kid you loved so much was worth it." Oh another thing. What the spice does for the bene gesserit (who are essentially space witches, a thing to note) is it allowed them to unlock "genetic memory", all the memory of their ancestors, but ONLY that of their female ancestors because the male side of their ancestry represented too much vile and awful shit. Shout out to the feminist movement. The kwisatch haderacht is the term for a MALE bene gesserit, who would have access to the memories of the female AND male side. Having access to the male side gives has the advantage of bestowing the power that comes along with all the vile male stuff, which the bene gesserit still want, which is why having a kwisatch haderacht be born is so important to them. They already have the power that comes along with things like female intuition, patience, grace etc. They also want the power, dominance, and pragmatism that comes along with masculinity. A kwisatch haderacth is essentially a male who sits high in both their feminine and masculine traits in perfect balance, lending to their potential to be all powerful when combined with the spice.
You said pretty much what I wanted to say. So I'll just add that the kwisatch haderacht was planned to be the son of Feyd Harkonnen mated with an Atreides. Jessica messed up the bene gesserite plan by producing it one generation too early.
enjoyed the “seriousness” of the movie, but let me tell ya.. David Dastmalchian quickly turning to the camera and falling on his knees after being poisoned was too funny, it took me out of it
I really want a full series to explore all the lore in this world. I wanna hear all this lore I hear about, I wanna see this war and the history. At least an animated show Or best case a full length 3rd person adventure game
Makes me want a serious talk on Blade Runner 2049. As beautiful and amazing as this is, 2049 is absolutely perfect. I’d love to hear uncle Nicky go off on that.
No, in the book Lady Jessica doesn't have that kind of detail on how close, generation-wise the Kwizats Haderach is. She loves Leto, and instead of giving birth to a daughter as ordered by the Bene Gesserit, she gives him a son, which screws up the BG's plan which was to breed Jessica's daughter to Feyd, and their offspring would have been the KW with the control DNA from Feyd. So, because the centuries-long breeding plan was so close, Paul is a Kwizats Haderach, without the CONTROL DNA so the BG cannot control him. The Lady Margot scene in D2 where she says Feyd can be controlled - is a setup for one of the plotlines from one of Brian Herbert's books that take place between the events of Dune and Dune Messiah, which may make it into Villeneuve's Messiah. Also - Liet Kynes was born on Arrakis and took over the Imperial Planetologist role from his/her father, Pardot Kynes who was the original Imperial Planetologist. (Liet is Chani's father in the book.) In the book, spice smells like cinnamon.
Good world building in any genre is when you show how thinks work instead of explaining how things work. Show dont tell when done right makes you feel smarter as an audience member and makes it more believable (Star Wars,AOT,Bladerunner, Dune, Mad Max,ect.)
Love having Kevin back! The smartest member of Kinda Funny. By far. I didn't like Dune though, very boring, the score doesn't justify whats actually happening on the screen.
It hasn't yet, however I don't subscribe to Kevin's pessimism that we won't get Dune Messiah. Part 2 is tracking super well, I expect it to go gangbusters at the box office.
WB hasn't green-lit it yet, likely awaiting box office results over the coming weeks, but Denis, Zendaya & Timothy have all said they want to do it as soon as they get the go-ahead from the studio, however Denis also said he may want to take a small break in-between and do something else before heading back to Arrakis.
It's not that Paul is afraid of killing, it's that he sees two visions, one where Jamis kills him and another where him and Jamis could have been really good friends. He's in this moment saddened that he's forced to kill him but also shown that his destiny is his own, not solely lying in his visions. I loved this movie, I understand why they had to choose certain details to cut, it's already dense as it is, but that's why it was hard to read his hesitancy in this scene.
I just got done rewatching this and I am so fricken in for this universe. After the first watch I was not impressed and I was super confused with the whole thing. Second viewing I am so hooked. Kevin was right when he said this movie does not hold your hand and honestly it reminds me of Game of Thrones in that way a bit. The families, the back stabbing, the little bit of super natural, all of it is amazing. Now I’m just hoping we get a couple more sequels or spin offs set in this universe. Also this is Jason Momoas best role not gonna lie.
We got Kevin back on main content, we won.
