Making an Iridescent Silk Blouse // Adding Muchness to Sleeves ✨

- Опубликовано: 7 сен 2022
- Today I'm making a blouse using my favorite shirt pattern from last summer, but widening the sleeve shape into a more appropriately epic proportion for such a divine color of silk dupioni! Diving into my Fall projects with an iridescent start seems a good idea no? And imagine this shirt under a vest? I shall try that next time...

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

The secretary who knows all the boss’s secrets. The bad girl with the heart of gold. All kinds of ‘40’s noir vibes.
Thank you Kim! ✨
The silk truly is stunning! I don't mind seeing a repeat of a pattern -- I often re-watch your old videos when I'm working on a similar project (like a shirt right now, so perfect timing!) because I feel like I always pick up tips and tricks. It's actually nice to see a similar project, so I can learn the skills but enjoy seeing a new product.
Thank you April! 💜
That fabric is just chef's kiss. I'm all for the repeats of a pattern! Especially using two different types of fabric like you did this time. It shows how your fabric choice can influence how a pattern looks.
Thank you Flynn! 💜
I love how you use the same patterns but change a detail or two. It’s just fun to see what fabrics you use and even if you use the same pattern, it turns out different❤
Thank you Brook!
I enjoyed seeing the repeat, especially since you modified the sleeves. I think even a substantial difference in textile weight would be worth seeing a repeat of a pattern for. Many of us must be hoping to find/create a pattern we like so much that we want multiple iterations of it. Great video!
Yes. Completely agree.
It’s also like a refresh of sorts IMO😁
Thank you!
Please please please REPEAT all of your favorites I absolutely want to see them. Honestly that's how I learn to do/use more sewing vocab and techniques. I think we all do!!
Thank you Sunni! ❤️
Every blouse is a shirt but not every shirt is a blouse. In my mind the difference between them is the fancy level. And buttons.
So nice button ups? Cuz that's what I call blouses too. Had this entire discussion when my mom wanted everyone to were blouses for family pictures and I was the only one to show up in a blouse.
@@anymeaddict But not all blouses have buttons. I draw the distinction at tailoring -- if it's close fit all over and has buttons and a collar it's a shirt, anything else is a blouse.
Interesting. In my own comment I wondered about the styling elements being more narrowly defined for a shirt, which fits with your "every blouse is a shirt but not every shirt is a blouse" statement.
@@cherylrosbak4092 but t shirts by that definition is a blouse. That works for men's (masc) dress shirts vs not dress shirts, but I always saw blouse as the women's (femme) equivalent of dress shirt. Buttons typically fitted but not always, and a collar.
@@anymeaddict Perhaps a t shirt is a blouse. They're all in the category tops, after all.
I have absolutely no objections to "blast from the past" patterns, especially when they get a bit of a revamp as this one did. Also, iridescent/multichrome fabric and excessively billowy bishop sleeves make me want to burst into a sewing-themed rendition of "These are a few of my favorite things." Seriously, I love everything about this project (except for it being dry clean only, but since it's not my garment, it's not my problem ^_^)!
Thank you!! Iridescent fabric is always good 💚✨
100% here for repeats! Especially when there's tweaks like sleeve shape, since it's a great illustration of how to build on a foundation you already have.
Thank you Kayla!
I like how you did a variation on a theme. There's nothing wrong with some repetition, since repetition is important for learning. You will inevitably add new information in your commentary, even if you've filmed the same technique before. With a new design detail or two, and maybe a different type of fabric, it's a whole new project.
Thank you Tina! ❤️
Are you kidding! I just looped your videos all day yesterday.
Repeat patterns are where where creativity is born! Keep’em coming…
Thank you Lisa!! ❤️
Sleeves like these would look amazing in a sheer fabric 💜💚
"Some geometry is happening here. Am I aware? No." That is a relatable pattern drafting quote for the ages. I love it. Thank you for your amazing videos; you've taught me so much!
Thank you! I don't need to understand the math 😂
Your 99k struck gold when she found such a devoted master as you!
Merci! ✨
I could watch you sew the same thing 100 times and I would still find it fun to watch. It's a little like ASMR but more...chatty? and I always learn something - even if it is 'try serging that fraying fabric'
Thank you!
In case no one has told you- B, you are a masterpiece. *chef kiss*
Always love your videos 💙
Thank you Jo! 💜
Green is my favorite color, and purple second, and I love the combo. It's a very different shirt / blouse from the other one which I also loved. Repeat away, especially given the very different sleeve.
Thank you Nicole!
The button placement is brilliant! It's perfectly logical but I don't think I would have thought of it until after I made the blouse and needed a snap. Really enjoyed this new take on an old pattern. There were enough differences to make it interesting for me.
Thank you Laura!
Love the repeat, you rarely even make exactly the same thing with your older patterns anyway. You're our drafting and pattern adjustment queen!! Enjoy your patterns and mix and match them as you want, it's always enjoyable for us to watch
Thank you Laura! ❤️✨
Bianca. So lucky to have you in all our lives. Beautiful, just beautiful project in both colours. Thank you. Lo x
Thank you! 💜
I like the ideas for variations on a favorite. Beautiful blouse, epic sleeves.
Thank you Julie!
Repeat your bum off! Watching you create beautiful clothes is what I'm here for. The silk blouses are fabulous! Love your channel; you just keep doing you.
xoxo's Sandie🤗
Thank you Sandie!
I will never get over how perfect this style of blouse and sleeve is!
Thank you!
This kind of color green is absolutely stunning.😍
i do see that green/purple combination in nature sometimes now that i think about it, so nice to see in a fabric like that! and the bonus shirt at the end is also stunning! continue doing what you're doing video-wise, you are never boring!!! 😉
Thank you Marcco! 💜
I’m getting ready to use my lavender dupioni for a 60’s pant set. I purchased it for a dress and jacket but don’t really want another dress. 😂 I LOVE this dragonfly with the purple shift. I install my placket was one piece, sew the rectangle then slit. (I’m not judging just find it interesting to see how many different approaches their are.) I think there is a pussybow blouse, in my project pile, with placket sleeves.🌈🌈🦋🦋 I have a Singer that was converted from a peddle to a motor way back in the day. It was the first machine I ever owned...7 years old? ...I’m now 55. It has a shuttle instead of a bobbin and is a workhorse. Oh the silk...💫
I love your pattern drafting. I also don’t mind seeing the flubs on a project. It helps me know what not to do. ❤️
Thank you Wendy!
The "repeat" isn't so much a repeat as the construction, with the interfacing, is really useful, as are the insights of working with different materials.
Thank you Terri!
New video! Perfect timing! 😁
OKAY so this is my first video of yours. Literally seconds before you start talking about your machine, I was all "Her machine rocks. I wonder if she ever talks about where to find similar ones? It's so cute." 😂 I have no choice but to subscribe to a sewing queen who hears thoughts.
Love that fabric!
Those sleeves! ❤️🔥
Dear god, how do you manage to look so glamorous? I’m loving the new fun textiles that you’ve been using, it’s so inspiring to see people use fun and funky fabrics
Thank you! The key is: glamourous 3% the time, pajama gremlin 97% of the time 😅🤣
Those sleeves are epic!
The fabric is phenomenal and the sleeves are epic! And in a sewing class I took they described Dupioni as an "irregular weave" which may be why it frays more.
I’m so in love with this fabric.
So excited to have stumbled across your channel!
I totally enjoyed watching this over and over.
I am mesmerized by that fabric 💚
Oh my lanta....epic ❤️

Loved watching the repeat with a twist! Thank you for showing how much a new sleeve can reinvent the entire project. 🦋
Thank you Kirsten!
Beautiful blouse! Love the "dragonfly" color scheme! Eye make up is stellar, as usual!
Thank you Janet!
Love it! Also a fan of this pearl/peach/nude eyeshadow moment, like I literally gasped. The iridescence of the fabric worked so well on the bishop sleeves. Cheers!
Thank you! The eyeshadow is called Phoenix from Terra Moons cosmetics and is one of my favorites!
You have made my Thursday! Gorgeous work and repeats in beautiful fabric couldn't possibly be a bad thing
Thank you Sarah!
I have no problem seeing repeats. I love seeing the different fabrics and patterns.
Just gorgeous!

A very gorgeous blouse ! Beautiful fabric. Thank you for your pattern drafting shown, too.
Thank you Marlene!
I loved seeing the repeat! I saw both videos and still learned a lot. Now I need a silk blouse 😋
Thank you! Hopefull I get better at explaining over time, just uhh slowly 😅
That is such beautiful silk. Thanks so much for the tutorial. Im going to draft up my basic bodice and skirt block soon. Your such an inspiration to me ! ❤️
Thank you!
I loved seeing the changes in the sleeve. The pattern drafting is what keeps me coming back. Tweaking and changing something you’ve done before is great!!
I do love that silk! The blouse is beautiful.
Thank you Marta!
I really just like watching you sew/cut things out and the little tangential pieces of info. I still get that when you reuse patterns and it is still a highly enjoyable video!
Thank you Georgia!
I don't mind seeing multiple versions of patterns, it shows the versatility of a pattern when you use different fabrics. I do mind that we haven't seen the kittens in some time. More kittens please.
Thank you Natalie! Kittens are not allowed in the sewing room and my family's house is not *aesthetic* 🤣 The kitties are on my instagram all the time though!
You’re so inspiring!
Thank you Caroline!
That is a gorgeous fabric. The shirt is beautiful I love it😍
Thank you Carol!
The “stay on target” reference cracked me up!
Always Star Wars in my brain ✨😂
Always happy to see a repeat with a variation. I'm planning on a 30s/40s cowl neck blouse and want to do sleeves like this but in a flooppy fabric, so thank you.
