Making an Iridescent Silk Blouse // Adding Muchness to Sleeves ✨

  • Today I'm making a blouse using my favorite shirt pattern from last summer, but widening the sleeve shape into a more appropriately epic proportion for such a divine color of silk dupioni! Diving into my Fall projects with an iridescent start seems a good idea no? And imagine this shirt under a vest? I shall try that next time...

    First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. The silk truly is stunning! I don't mind seeing a repeat of a pattern -- I often re-watch your old videos when I'm working on a similar project (like a shirt right now, so perfect timing!) because I feel like I always pick up tips and tricks. It's actually nice to see a similar project, so I can learn the skills but enjoy seeing a new product.

    That fabric is just chef's kiss. I'm all for the repeats of a pattern! Especially using two different types of fabric like you did this time. It shows how your fabric choice can influence how a pattern looks.

    I love how you use the same patterns but change a detail or two. It’s just fun to see what fabrics you use and even if you use the same pattern, it turns out different❤

    I enjoyed seeing the repeat, especially since you modified the sleeves. I think even a substantial difference in textile weight would be worth seeing a repeat of a pattern for. Many of us must be hoping to find/create a pattern we like so much that we want multiple iterations of it. Great video!

    Every blouse is a shirt but not every shirt is a blouse. In my mind the difference between them is the fancy level. And buttons.

      So nice button ups? Cuz that's what I call blouses too. Had this entire discussion when my mom wanted everyone to were blouses for family pictures and I was the only one to show up in a blouse.

      @@anymeaddict But not all blouses have buttons. I draw the distinction at tailoring -- if it's close fit all over and has buttons and a collar it's a shirt, anything else is a blouse.

    • @agcons
      @agcons Год назад

      Interesting. In my own comment I wondered about the styling elements being more narrowly defined for a shirt, which fits with your "every blouse is a shirt but not every shirt is a blouse" statement.

    • @anymeaddict
      @anymeaddict Год назад +1

      @@cherylrosbak4092 but t shirts by that definition is a blouse. That works for men's (masc) dress shirts vs not dress shirts, but I always saw blouse as the women's (femme) equivalent of dress shirt. Buttons typically fitted but not always, and a collar.

    I have absolutely no objections to "blast from the past" patterns, especially when they get a bit of a revamp as this one did. Also, iridescent/multichrome fabric and excessively billowy bishop sleeves make me want to burst into a sewing-themed rendition of "These are a few of my favorite things." Seriously, I love everything about this project (except for it being dry clean only, but since it's not my garment, it's not my problem ^_^)!

  • @Sudenveri

    100% here for repeats! Especially when there's tweaks like sleeve shape, since it's a great illustration of how to build on a foundation you already have.

  • @tinajohnston8139
    @tinajohnston8139 Год назад +24

    I like how you did a variation on a theme.There's nothing wrong with some repetition, since repetition is important for learning. You will inevitably add new information in your commentary, even if you've filmed the same technique before. With a new design detail or two, and maybe a different type of fabric, it's a whole new project.

    I’m getting ready to use my lavender dupioni for a 60’s pant set. I purchased it for a dress and jacket but don’t really want another dress. 😂 I LOVE this dragonfly with the purple shift. I install my placket was one piece, sew the rectangle then slit. (I’m not judging just find it interesting to see how many different approaches their are.) I think there is a pussybow blouse, in my project pile, with placket sleeves.🌈🌈🦋🦋 I have a Singer that was converted from a peddle to a motor way back in the day. It was the first machine I ever owned...7 years old? ...I’m now 55. It has a shuttle instead of a bobbin and is a workhorse. Oh the silk...💫
