Goth in 1968. Made life interesting to be sure. I've been getting back to my happy place. My sons are very cool with it. I'm an old lady so I will do what I please!
So i am a huge geek, and with the shoulder yokes and the stand collar is giving Star Trek next gen uniform vibes. Not the whole dress just the red with black at the top. I love thinking that vampiress would wear such a well made garment like this!
The more you do this changing from your block pattern, the more it makes sense and seems easier to attempt myself. I'm learning so much that has reignited my desire to sew for myself. Even on your foggiest brain days, I'm amazed at how well you articulate your process and make it understandable and inspiring. Also, love your choice of music for background!
I was nearly your age before I was free to wear the Neo Victorian clothes I wanted. My oldest is almost your age, and she's finally letting herself wear the goth and kimono she's always wanted.
That is so fabulous! As many other commenters have mentioned, it is so Startrek Next Gen. In fact i could see Janeway in that in one of the Chaotica episodes. Sorry, i’ll pack my nerd away now, lol! My baby girl (who is prob your age!) used to have a RUclips Chanel, the only part of the ‘set’ that was ever tidy was what was actually in frame. The rest if the ‘set’ looked like a tornado swept through. I hit a pin big time one day. It bent the pin into a zigzag and shattered the needle into 4 pieces. One stayed in the clamp. One pinged off, never to be seen again. The eye, still connected to the thread, went into a finger but i could remove it by pulling it out with the thread. The 4th piece absolutely buried itself into my finger. I ended up having to get it surgically removed. Ask me if that stopped me sewing over pins! 🤣
What a cool dress! At first glance, it looks like you're wearing a black blazer over a cranberry top. But then we see the sleeves, and the fit, and the red on the back as well, and we realize we're looking at a dress! I can totally picture you as a noir villainess with a pair of long black or red gloves, a hat with that bird netting veil on it, and one of those long cigarette holders (you know, just to add to the aesthetic). Delightfully dangerous.
I wasn't allowed to really lean into the Victorian goth stage either as a teen and wish I had been able to. (Boo for school uniforms!) This dress is lovely and I love color blocking. As for the collar, I have done that so many times. Plan a CF seam and forget that when drafting a facing or plan for a button placket at back and then decide to do a collar cut on the fold. Ugh!
I’m both encouraged and discouraged to hear that zippers are a pain for you even after all your experience with them. I’ve only tried a few times and haven’t had great success on any of them. It has raised my level of appreciation for how well zippers are done in my store bought clothes.
My ADHD refused to let me continue learning to knit. It was the same for me: keeping track and counting, even with a counter or any other trick did not work. Now weaving, on the other hand, allows for more freeform, and therefore more forgiving, so I'm looking forward to finishing my first weave project.

I really love how the color blocking emphasizes your hourglass shape. I also like the juxtaposition of the tulip sleeves, which are flowery and "full of life," I guess, and the coffin shape of the skirt. I was looking forward to this video ever since you said "coffin skirt" in that Butterick counter book video and you did not disappoint!
Wow! What a great presentation of an intricate project! It so brings me back to watching my aunt and listening to her talk for hours. She was a teacher of children with special needs and those who simply came to school unready developmentally at a ratio of 1-45, she could keep children interested in anything! Her gentle speedy talk was her primary tool, and I adored as much listening as watching her sew. Well done, sweetie, and thank you for the fond memories.
Obviously the dress is incredible, as always, but I am BLOWN AWAY by the hair. Love the slow transformation into 'The Bride of Frankenstein' you´ve got going on, it's a whole ass mood.

The dress is very cool and your make up looks amazing! 😍 Even though I cannot watch you sewing over pins (the one and only time I accidentally did so, the needle broke with such a terrifying noise I thought I 'd wrecked my machine!😱) I love your videos - thanks for sharing x
I swear, every video you put out, I find myself saying, "This is the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen you make!" I don't know how you manage to keep climbing that mountain of awesomeness so consistently, but whatever you're doing, it's working. :) I too have largely-unfulfilled childhood goth aspirations, so I feel the entire vibe of this dress deep in my soul. That stand collar/dagged neckline combo is so elegant and dangerous, I love it!
Heck… I still have to lay the pieces out, and put chalk arrows, and balance marks that aren’t even balance marks - they just show me what seams go together. And sometimes letters. There’s definitely and advantage to mock up fabric with a clear right or wrong side.
I used to give myself a really hard time about my "worse" previous work, especially publicly posted video projects on here. BUT! What I've learned (thanks therapy!) is that all that cringing I do at past me just means I know better now. I've learned so much more. I've leveled up my skills. I was doing my best with what resources I had available to me. And it makes me excited to see where I end up going forward, and what things I'm currently doing, which I feel is my current best, but that will make me cringe down the road! 🖤
Totally feel you on trying to keep cats from string or string-like objects! One of my cats had to undergo a very expensive emergency abdominal surgery because he managed to eat an unplugged (brick-free) 3 foot braided phone charger. We had no idea what he swallowed, and the xray just showed a large foreign body. The vet was absolutely flabbergasted when he cut it out. He actually saved it for his "somebody's pet ate this" wall of fame/shame. Apparently, cat's tongues have little hooks of some sort, and once they get caught on something like a braided cord, the cat has no choice but to keep swallowing until the thing is swallowed. So, anywho, just commiserating on cat safety with you!
I also find myself being more true to my natural inclinations as opposed to what society wants as far as the clothes I choose to wear and how I choose to do my hair and such. It is rather nice
me too. I'm 19, and escaped from the hell of high school a year ago, so the peer pressure is almost gone (my college classmates are all a bit whacky themselves). I now wear a buzz cut and am leaning more and more into goth/punk style.
You are one of my biggest resources for sewing, I love that you have the cards so that if I remember one video that something is in but it's not the actual video where you show how to do it I can click back to the correct video. Thank you for taking the time and maxing out all your cards XD
Halloween prep season, it truly is! Bianca, my 14 yr old granddaughter is now hooked on watching your videos with me. So you see, the explanation of sewing over pins, how and why you are constructing the garments, as well as any explanation, is highly informative for all of us.💖 By the way, she prefers the patterns I have of the 1940s, 1950s, and some '70 styles. 😻 I love the color-blocking design, especially in black and red. Absolutely Stunning. Figure Flattering. Head-turning Gorgeous. 💖
You made my Wednesday. Thank you for the earlier viewing 😁 also gonna make a block and start sewing with my 14yo. Any project suggestions after the block itself? 👏❤✌
❤️ Hmm! I suppose it depends on their style/desires! I am very out of touch with the wants of current 14 year old folks sadly 😅 Perhaps a browse on pinterest for dream dresses is in order?
@@TheClosetHistorian well I was hoping to get to that. - but I wanted to practice on just one of your videos like - seeing you have an idea and then create it from the Block I just kind of wanted to use it like a tutorial 🤷🏽
@@Mysmichelle69 I suppose ask them which style/project they like best then, the a-line skirt is a pretty good basic, but it can be hard for me to judge the complexity of my own projects 😅 All dresses (except for the wild colorblocked things) feel similarly straightforward to me. The wrap dress coming next week would be a good one to avoid a zipper which is always nice 😂
I love your videos they are so informative and I love your dry humor! I'm glad to hear you're on the mend and the kittens sound absolutely delightful!! They won the best family jackpot for sure!! You are amazing amazing human. So talented!!
I love, that you share so many steps of the process, and that I’m not the only one struggling with zippers. I love the tulip sleeves, and think I’ll give a try on my next garment. Thank you for sharing 🌹
I first saw this dress in your Viridis video and audibly gasped, and I had to see how you put it together. I might make something similar because I need this in my life. The pattern you made in "How to Draft Simplicity 1832" could produce a very similar shape!
That looks wonderful! I love how all the curves sort of echo your curves! LOL it'd all be straight lines on my shape!! Maybe I need to play with colour blocking to give the illusion that I have curves! I completely understand the organized chaos thing. I generate clutter the way Pigpen in the Peanuts comic generated a dust cloud... I'm very good at organizing things but very bad at keeping things organized and somehow still know where almost everything is... cause I know what I was doing last time I used the thing I'm looking for so I know where to look for it! Personal triumph this week in the "don't get more fabric till you've used up more stash!" vein - I went to the fabric store and bought a zipper and thread and THAT WAS ALL!!! And I don't knit or cross-stitch for the same reason, cannot count while doing things... and I design my crochet projects around that inability. Also my hands refuse to learn to purl... I do have a question though, how does one decide whether to line or not, and what to line with? I don't currently line a lot of things but I also don't make a lot of fitted garments, and because I rarely wear a bra, I select fabrics for their lack of abrasiveness so a lot of what I wear is nice soft cotton or polarfleece, depending on the season.
I loved this bag lined coat. I could never wrap my head around bag lining but seeing this and the Crimson Peak house coat: it all makes sense! Thank you Bianca for your awesome channel. Your're teaching this old man so much! You rock!
Fellow coloured pencil gang member here 😎. I use Derwent watercolours but prismacolour is next level! I love how clean and beautiful your work is! This dress is so sleek and elegant 😍
This dress is so cool. Defs giving black widow but make it suitable for summer. Also your comments on your framing are so funny oh my goodness 🤣 Re: cats eating threads. My sewing area is open to my cats unfortunately so i have to be really careful with threads. One of my cats in particular loves to chew on threads so i have to be extra careful with her. She's snuck up onto my table to chew through my machine threads several times so i can never leave it uncovered if I'm not in the room and once i left my tool box open and she stole a spool out of it to chew on. Mabel is a menace.
Have you ever tried marking your fabric with a white liquid chalk pen? Given the colors you use that seems like something that would work, but I have never tried them to see how they work on fabric.
This is stunning. Absolutely awesome use of color blocking. I am not usually a fan the way I see it often used but this has created some lovely inspiration nuggets that are now inhabiting my brain. Also adore the contrast color as a lining color that can peak out occasionally. More inspo nuggets for the brain cave. Thank you for sharing. Loves everything about this one and learned a ton! (Didn't even know princess seams could route into a neckline before today!)
I love love love your channel💕 would you consider doing a 1930’s robe and nightie? I love that era and want to stroll around the house in the evening like that😁
Ugh, these videos all make me just want to find a space where I can go sew, like... building some kind of community space where people can go do DIY stuff like sewing because I have zero space in my home (for anything other than cutting fabric). Am loving these. Also, the vibe you have is like someone else on RUclips (Mainely Mandy) who does more political work, and I find that enjoyable.
I really enjoyed that video. I have just finished my top block. I used a book by Pamela Stringer. It was reasonably easy to follow and I had your videos to refer to. Thank you.
Another total triumph of design Somehow you make a dress which looks sophisticated and couture yet so achievable. Thank you yet again for inspiration (As as we say up here in NE Uk "gan canny hinny ")
The dress is beautiful, thanks for sharing your talent. I have a question about the 2-piece summer suit dress you made. When you were drafting the pattern for the jacket, I did not see you omit the 1/2 seam allowance on the bodice before you drew on the peplum. If you did and I missed that, I am sorry for asking, but if you did not remove the seam that maybe why the waist was tight in the mock-up. I finally after a lifetime of sewing made my bodice and skirt block and now, I understand why commercial patterns (and fast fashion) were such a bad fit. I am a combination of several sizes with narrow slanted shoulders, tall and a larger bust. Making clothes from my own pattern is going to be fun. Thanks again.
Thank you Renee! I'm afraid since that project was several years ago now, I have no idea what I was up to back then 😅🤣 I don't have the best memory anyhow, so truly after a while it all blends into fog!
Wow that really shows off your fantastic hourglass figure. The colors remind me of the venomous Australian Red Back spider. And I mean that in a good way.
Thank you Lynn! I have a university degree in fashion design, but was teaching myself before that, during that time, and afterwards in more ways than my programs ever really did so...sorta? 🤣

She's snuck up onto my table to chew through my machine threads several times so i can never leave it uncovered if I'm not in the room and once i left my tool box open and she stole a spool out of it to chew on. Mabel is a menace.
Thank you! Silly Mabel!! Poor buddy just wants her thread 😩🧵
Gorgeous as ever!!! The Philipino national dress have similar sleeves to this only bigger! xxx
Thank you Alexandra!
That dress pattern really fits you nicely. Thank you for keeping me company while I organized my yarn. Sending healing and positive vibes always xo
Thank you Dawn! ❤
Have you ever tried marking your fabric with a white liquid chalk pen? Given the colors you use that seems like something that would work, but I have never tried them to see how they work on fabric.
Such a beautiful dress! I love the style lines and neckline. You're giving me all sorts of inspiration for my own version of this dress.
Thank you Kathryn!
Thank you Crystil!
I love watching your videos, they help to calm my brain
Thank you Sam ❤
Everything you make looks stunning!!! I love this gothic summer dress!!!
Thank you!
Love the illusion it creates!
Thank you Liz!
I love love love your channel💕 would you consider doing a 1930’s robe and nightie? I love that era and want to stroll around the house in the evening like that😁
The sleeves are beautiful!
Thank you!
Gorgeous! I really love that neckline and collar ❤️
Thank you Cynthia!
Lovely! It is so flattering on you.
Thank you Sara!
You look so good in this dress!!!! Pat yourself on the back! Job well done 💚🖤
Thank you Rachel!
Sew over your pins. If they don't want to they don't have to, but they can stop pearl clutching at you.
I love watching you create, Bianca. 😍 But no kitten cameo. 😥
Ha! Thank you Myrtle! The kittens are not allowed in the sewing room which is the main part of the problem there
Stunning! I love your styling.
Thank you Lois!
Thank you! I'm super lucky to have a sewing room for sure!
I really enjoyed that video.
I have just finished my top block. I used a book by Pamela Stringer. It was reasonably easy to follow and I had your videos to refer to. Thank you.
Thank you Jane!
You look like the quintessential goth villain every story needs. :}
Merci 🧛♀️✨
I also tie my darts! Security! Lol!
And I sew over my pins!
Just gourgeous!
Thank you Donna!
Beautiful! And informative. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Bonnie!
Gorgeous dress!
Thank you!
As a creator I love watching you create. And that dress came out beautifully!
Thank you!
Sew over pins people unite!
Wow, just, wow! Really liking your playing with color and shapes lately. The upswept hair is also epic and sci-fi noir (is that even a thing? 🤔).
Thank you!!
Another total triumph of design Somehow you make a dress which looks sophisticated and couture yet so achievable. Thank you yet again for inspiration (As as we say up here in NE Uk "gan canny hinny ")
That is a beautiful dress and you look fantastic!😍
Thank you Carol!
I'm planning to make this dress or sort of a similar design it will be strapless for my final wish me luck
A lovely gothic dress 🤩🌹
Thank you Diana!
Love this dress 👗!
Thank you Jenny!
Beautiful, great video
Thank you Collene!
Do you have a block pattern tutorial ? I can’t seem to find one! 💗
I have a few different ones, this playlist is a good place to start ruclips.net/video/weIdvU0g4tk/видео.html
Wow that really shows off your fantastic hourglass figure. The colors remind me of the venomous Australian Red Back spider. And I mean that in a good way.
Thank you!! 🕷
if you dont like swapping threads, then that sounds like a valid excuse to get a 2nd machine to me
Facts 😂 When I have a bigger workroom perhaps!
I'm getting "black widow" vibes.
Ah, the Queen bee has arrived! What a beautiful dress!
Do you still have your PO box?
Thank you Naomi! I do indeed, the address can be found in my video descriptions ❤
I know I"be said this a few times, but your creations are phenomenal Bianca !!
Are you self taught with your creations/ pattern making etc ? ✂️🧵😊💕
Thank you Lynn! I have a university degree in fashion design, but was teaching myself before that, during that time, and afterwards in more ways than my programs ever really did so...sorta? 🤣
I love your dress it looks good on you
Thank you Stacie!
great
