    Personally, I feel that the gothic tendencies are welcome year-round on this channel. Who needs to have the self constraint to be spooky in only October? Not me. Definately not me.
    Great video as always!

    The neck is a really fun, subtle bit, but it's that yoke and gathering that really have me intrigued! I've been feeling inspired by Victorian stuff for spooky season, because who does spooky better than Victorians? So I've been wanting to make a goth blouse and couldn't think of a way to do the yoke without it looking too old-ladyish. The angled yoke really makes it spooky and old-timey without being old-fashioned (if that makes sense at all). Love it! Maybe I'll even find time to do it...

    My high school friend and I are completely healthy at nearly 70. He, however, decided to throw himself a wake. He built himself a coffin on a wheeled base, and after all the guests (mourners) had arrived, the pall bearers wheeled him in. Eulogizing happened, then the coffin was propped up and used as a photo booth. Great party! which proves goth is all year!!

    Brilliant use of bias binding to finish the coffin cutout! Very elegant, and spooky. Putting a different plate on your 99K is challenging to collectors (like me) but I applaud you for doing it. These machines were built to last, and although they were designed and styled for different time periods, adapting your machine to your tastes is entirely appropriate, and historical. You are part of your machine's history, and vice versa. You live in an era when rufflers and tuckmarkers are out-moded, but your machine was designed when attachments to do these functions were state of the art. But nothing campares to a really good single stitch machine. Well done keeping your 99K relevant and stylish. 🦋

    • @TheClosetHistorian
      @TheClosetHistorian  2 года назад

      Thank you Kirsten! I promise I'm storing the original plate in the bentwood box of the machine, so it remains with it's machine and can always be reunited ❤ Not that I plan to part from my 99, I love it ✨

    Your commentary of coloured pencil use had me in stitches (pun intended) "I have no shame" "I'm gonna keep doing it because - you're not my mom". This was another great video! Cotton sateen is my favourite, the drape is soooo good. :)

  • @tanishahogan9396

    Truthfully, I feel mostly people mainly just need a machine that does one or two stitches and does them well. Mostly out there seems to be machines that do tons of stitches and are finicky as heck!

    • @debiapostol
      @debiapostol 2 года назад +2

      My machine isn’t QUITE that old (a Kenmore from the 70’s), but - even though the self-threading mechanism is broken and while I 1) can no longer see well enough to EASILY thread my needles and 2) can NOT find a replacement for it ANYwhere - I am loathe to replace the machine because it has TWO stitches; a straight stitch and a zig-zag with multiple widths. Every time I LOOK at new machines I am comPLETELY overwhelmed by the MULTitiude of unnecessary stitches that I know I will never use!

    Ah, Thursday. My favorite day. I did live through the 80's so, no sholder pads for me. However, I really like the yoke on the all-in-one sleeve. I have some lovely moss green linen with ivory embroidered flowers all over. It's a lighter weight than I usually use so I wanted to add some volume to the dress. Your yoke and gathering should do the trick. I have made 8 dresses with your all-in-one sleeve and it is all I want to wear. So flattering and very comfortable. Thank you for enriching my life, because that is what you have done. I love sewing again!

    I find Subtle goth is the superior goth for most adult life situations. Do I want weird stares all throughout the grocery store when I just came to get some milk and bread, no. Do I want to share a knowing look or passing complement with the cashier with 10 piercings and electric blue hair, yes.

      Solidarity with blue haired cashiers ✨ This reminds me that when I studied in London, there was an attendant at the front desk of the V&A museum with very long, very curly, turquoise and aqua hair. This was already very pretty, but the desk she sat at happened to be right under a giant aqua and green glass chandelier and it made for a great match!

  • @lynn858
    @lynn858 2 года назад

    ... Finally realized why I hated 80s shoulder pads! They often weren't there to create an hourglass effect - they were there to make the body look like a box. Not that I had curves in the 80s, being a child, but my adult bust - does not lend itself to "box", and thus I've avoided shoulder pads.
    A prominent bust does have potential to work well with hourglass, which I definitely don't have... but maybe stacking all the design features - shoulder pads, colour/texture blocking, sleeve length... may contribute to the illusion. Hmmm...

    😻😻😻🦇 that is so cool 😎 I like the coffin shape and i love the gathering in the bodice. It gives shape and texture. Kind of makes the neckline shape stand out. A rose or a jewel, a moth or bat or maybe a skull suspended in the right spot in the opening would be cool also😊

    Just watched your Femme Fatale dress video. The idea floated I to my head that the Starburst darts on the front would look snazzily authentic (I think lol) with black sequins sewn over them to highlight the style lines to catch a little light. Just a thought. Love your videos!

    Exquisite design choice! I would love to have a dress like this just to see other people's faces when they notice the coffin keyhole (coffinhole?) and want to ask about it but they are not sure of what they are witnessing and don't want to sound weird. :D
