Making A Sleeveless Top // Sewing an All-in-one Facing

  • I had just a small oddly shaped bit of fabric left, so I decided to give in to destiny and make a sleeveless top! Finished with an all-in-one facing, which is always so satisfying to sew, this top was inspired by late 50s and early 60s "shell" style tops, and I'm even going to add some embellishments for a bit of sequin sparkle!

The TMI: My kittens have ringworm, which is a fungus like athletes foot not a worm...and since before we knew they had that I was very cuddly with said kittens, I also now have a few spot on my arm. I'm healing just fine, but lots of band aids just isn't chic for a lookbook now is it?

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Just last month I made my own sloper according to your recommendation. And since then I made 3 blouses that are the most comfortable thing I ever made. And I sew a lot. You changed my wardrobe and my sewing habits. You are a legend.

I'm so hesitant to make my own sloper... I've bookmarked her legendary video lesson. But for some reason afraid to try. How long did it take you to draft and did you have to correct your draft many times?

I finally made a sloper thanks to Bianca, and I also have made the most comfortable tops ! I recently used it for a fitted dress and had to change it slightly with fitting , but it is such a game changer !

I'm working on my sloper, so soon I will be drafting my own garments. You've inspired this 68 year old lady to try new things despite having sewn for about 50 + years. I love your channel and your presenting style. It's a lovely mix of sarcasm and self-deprecation.

Last summer I made a bodice block because of the video you did on it! Took eight iterations, and I finished the last one by hand, using the last of the day's sunlight, thanks to a power outage from an afternoon thunderstorm. Sure, I could've waited until the next day, but it was the *eighth one*, I knew it was the final version, and dammit, I was gonna finish it!

When I was a teen like 20 yrs ago now (yikes) I hated commercial patterns and was making my own patterns and sewing them out of mom's remnants. She convinced me I was doing it all wrong and I quit sewing for a decade. And your heartfelt rants on pattern drafting healed that craft wound 💗 I'm technically a re-convert to pattern drafting bc of you 💪

to be completely honest you are the reason i love pattern drafting. besides the fact that i have no dress form, watching your vieos made me realize that i could start my sewing journey from home and build my own wardrobe, and aside from a few books i bought on it, most of my knowledge comes from watching your videos.

And, I should add that in the 60’s we were taught to sew over pins. My new machine doesn’t like that, however. And, now I’m 70 and excited to learn these new things. Thank you.

You say in this video that if you can convince even 1 or 2 people to try pattern drafting, you will consider your channel a success. Well, congratulations, you are officially successful! This weekend, for the first time in my 20 years of dabbling in sewing, I drafted a pattern for myself instead of just absolutely winging it. I made myself a little mermaid skirt with pockets (I have no hips and pockets help) to wear to Pow Wow with my dad this weekend. He was charmed and delighted, so thank you!

Thanks to you, I have now made my own block patterns and have tried drafting a few basic patterns. I used to struggle with commercial patterns. Now I have the confidence to design my own patterns for clothes (both modern and historic) and costumes for comic con based on images and I know they will fit me. Thank you again. I look forward to more great videos. 🧵❤

Second draft of my sloper in progress, this time with someone other than myself having taken the measurements! Looking forward to making a hell-load of my own patterns! Sorry about the critter related problem, had that once and it was a total nightmare, the constant linen and clothes washing and treatment applications! I hope you get well soon! Prends soin de toi et des petits chatons !
