- Heading to a swinging wake? Today I'm making the ultimate Halloween cocktail party dress in iridescent orange taffeta and black spider web embroidered mesh dotted with sparkling black sequins. Add a giant bat wing inspired collar, or four, and the happy haunts materialize into what will be my favorite fancy dress for all future Octobers...or perhaps all year long!
The spider web mesh fabric I used: www.etsy.com/listing/1265726605

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Here, here! New Sub and shared.
Thank you Donna!!
I agree!!!!
Agreed!!!
This is what Jane Jetsen would choose if she was bitten by a radioactive spider and she needed a superhero costume. And it's MAGNIFICENT.
Thank you!!
not only do you look lovely, but you seem just tickled with your spiderweb dress.🕷🕸🎃
Thank you! I was quite happy that the skirt situation worked 😅😂
I have some spiderweb lace and red-and-black taffeta in my stash....
I love how this dress came out! The spiderweb lace is perfection. Maybe you need a sort of Reverse Book Club, where you all meet at a bar to quietly read side by side, speaking only to order another cocktail and more snacks. (In a location with ample public transit, of course.)
That is a lovely idea!
Thank you Laurel! I would love to have dinner and an old movie nights at my house one day also! I could force everyone I meet to watch 1940s films ✨
@@TheClosetHistorian not sure you would need to apply much force!!
@@TheClosetHistorian that actually sounds like such a good evening 🥰
My OCD wants to say thank you for that bias tape just * perfectly * covering the center-front seam: I was quite literally squeaking out of enjoyment.
Thank you for teaching me pattern drafting and for your always entertaining and educational videos. They are great company and I regard you as a good friend. Warm October greetings from a fellow Bianca ☺
Thank you Bianca! 💜
I love this so much! The orange popping through at the hip is just divine, and I love the batty collar and skirt swoosh edging! Definitely worth the extra couple hours to have spooky sparkly sequin spiderweb dress!
Thank you! 🕸️

Your Praise and tips on your 99k Inspired me to "steal" my Husbands Kenmore 17600 {That He thought wasn't working} lol That Well Built all metal inside just powers through my Projects Hoping this coming Year I will find all the cams that go with it ....

OH HECK YESSSSSSS
You're just spoiling us, Bianca and we're here for it. Squeeeee!
OMG Love Love the Brooch.
Thank you Deborah!
Spidertastic 🎃🍂🕸🕷
I totally understand being self conscious about body parts. You are a lovely lady and you have lovely arms. If you hadn't said anything, I never would have known to look. When I did, I couldn't find anything wrong with them. You are so graceful when you model your creations. Only a troll would have anything negative to say about you. I appreciate the light you bring to this little corner of the internet 🥰
Thank you! ❤️
Such a wonderful color! And it is a delight to get a video from my favorite sewing channel on a Monday!
Thank you!
So I haven’t watched the video yet, but I’m having a BEAR of a migraine from ✨hormones✨ and legit almost cried when I saw you had put out a new video. Your content is so incredibly soothing and calming for me 💜
I hope you feel better soon
@@karenalise7775 thank you! I finally knocked out the migraine with some willow bark and lavender tea later that evening 💜
Thank you Lauren ❤️ I'm so sorry you are under attack, I hope you feel better soon!
Oh this spider web fabric has been in my Etsy cart for some time 😂
I read an announcement that came with a bit of history and the whole thing was just "Hey, Amazon. Say you know nothing about the industry and customer base without saying you know nothing about the industry and customer base."
That’s gorgeous, girl, that’s gorgeous. That’s all I could say when I saw the thumbnail.
Thank you!
That spider mesh would look wonderful over a violent purple as well. this turned out super fun!
Thank you Nathan! I quite agree purple would be excellent!
Love the swish of the skirt. And the purple moth pin is adorable.
Thank you!
I'm loving all the goth vintage finds and I'm finally going to break out my sewing machine and ....I really need that mesh. And more spider mesh outfits
My Mother was an industrial sewer of leather briefcases and bags in the late 40's - early 50's, so when it was time for her to get a home sewing machine, she got an "industrial" singer in the late 50's. It was what I learned to sew on - and I honestly hated it. It was fast as hell and there was no room for error. Threading the machine was easy, and it was a beast that could sew through absolutely anything. But for a 8/9 year-old, it was way too much power. I was so happy when I part exchanged it for a "modern" Janome quilting machine in the 00's - which I love.
it's so cute how you refer to your projects and fabric as "this buddy"
The details on this dress are so cute and unique! Love it🍂🍁🎃✨️
Thank you Ami!
Remarkable. It’s fun to watch the thought and drafting process.
Thank you!
I love the way you combine different elements and patterns to create new designs, it's so awesome and inspiring! This dress is perfection and very Halloween, I adore it!! 💙
Thank you Josie!
I would love too see your version of the Christmas spider.
i swear each new dress i'm like "omg this is the best"
Thank you!
Whereas I've been having fun hiding pockets in interesting places in everything I make! 😄 I've got enough clothes I made myself to wear them most of the time these days, and I love having giant pockets all the time.
This is my absolute fave of all your lovely side floopy bits dresses and skirts. the batwing framing looks so chic.
Thank you Mandy!
Yes, more sequined spider webs!
That is the most outrageously gorgeous dress and it looks really great on you way to go🦇🦇🦇🖤🖤🧡🧡
Thank you Fay!
A collar for your hip makes complete sense to me! The overskirt is so clever, your explanations alway make sense eventually!
Absolutely stunning, I love, love, love this dress.
Thank you!
Lovely dress with very Interesting details 🧡🖤🧡
Thank you!
Lovely dress and always love the voice overs xx
Thank you Kellie!
You will definitely be the belle of the Halloween Ball! Lovely dress!! Thanks for sharing. :-)
Thank you Gray!
Wow! This dress turned out stunning! I love the little batty bit on the side, the collar, and the sleeves. And that spiderweb mesh is so special. This is definitely outside my skill level but fun to dream.
Thank you! You can get there I promise!!
I gasped at the thumbnail🤯🤯🤯
Absolutely fabulous ❤
Thank you Julia!
All Spooky Stuff All the Time. I'm not at all a bug person but I'm loving the Halloween edit.
Thank you!
Stunning, as always! Love the orange taffeta cutout on the hip. 🦋
Thank you Kirsten!
Yes, it's quite spidertastic, indeed! Love it!

Thank you Kat! 🎃
Omg this is so freaking cool. i love the swag side bit of the skirt and very adams family-esq ... getting morticia vibes!
Thank you Angela!
Such a delightfully unique design. So simple when you see every step but Wow! Triumphant couture Halloween spirit.😂
Thank you Loretta!
Absolutely stunning. I am enjoying seeing the beautiful outfits you make and how you style each one. 🥰❤️🥰
Thank you Carmen!
The first thing I noticed on your video was the coffin blouse! What a great Halloween touch! Very nice!
Thank you Suzanne!
That. Dress. Is. gorgeous!!! Definitely checking out the swing skirt video next!
Thank you!
Lovely sleeve tips!😊🎃 Awesome cocktail dress for fall fun!
Thank you! 🎃
You've really managed to achieve the perfect combination of elegance and spookiness here -- that bat-wing collar is everything one could ask for from a Halloween cocktail dress, and the swish of the overskirt just takes it up to the next level. The spiderweb mesh was amazing inspiration and very much the icing on the cake here. Also, I agree -- this dress would look amazing in just about any other colors as well! My personal vote is always purple, but you always manage to make colors that I would never choose still look fabulous, so if you do get more of the mesh, I can't wait to see what you do with it :)
Thank you!! I may have grabbed more of the mesh already...
Just ingenious! I adore this dress! And you look so happy wearing it, which was fun to watch :)
Thank you Kat! I hadn't actually tried it on since hemming it yet, so I was a little extra hyped about it 😂✨
YOU LOOK SPOOKTACULAR!!
Thank you!
Love! The side detail is so great! And the collar! Just wonderful.
Thank you Lauren!
Literally the best dress for October that I've ever seen, it's simply perfection!
You are amazing! I dug thru my trove of patterns, ( many are from my mom after she passed). I found what I would call a basic bodice block in my size!!!!!!! I am beyond excited. I sewed my first walking skirt, by hand of course. Now need a blouse suitable for my wonderful turn of the century skirt. Nothing crazy lacy or puffy, a history bounding daily wear top suitable for a nice skirt. I have been enjoying the process of looking thru pinterest, etc for ideas. You and Bernadette Banner are my inspiration.
I don't think it really matches, but.... I will make your pirate shirt. Your directions are so clear, I believe I can do it and really be pleased to wear the result.
Bianca, you are great. A real treasure to those of us who truly want to sew..... but lack knowledge and experience.
Thank you! I'm glad you're having a good time with it all!!
I have a vintage singer I am dying to get to sewing on and I can’t wait to redo my room and finally have space to do all the sewing. It sadly needs some work done, she’s an electrical model but the old cast iron body so I have to find someone close who could repair it. But it got it and the sewing table with bench all for $60 at a rummage sale. Lucky me was helping set it up with my brother’s Boy Scout troop and was able to lay claim before anyone else could. I plan to refinish the table and bench with a new stain and finish plus a new cushion for the bench.
This dress is to die for, I adore the little pop of orange on the hip in the side swoosh. Maybe once I get the room redone I’ll have the room to finally settle in to draft my own pattern blocks from your videos and start making my own things. I love your videos, your voice is so soothing and is great for listening to when I am having trouble sleeping.
the moth is everything. very beautiful
Thank you!
the dress turned out amazing! and i actually understood the dress part once you colored it in lol. Great job as always
Thank you Lelu!
This is such a fabulous dress. I think it may be my favourite! Just exquisite!
Thank you Mel!
The thing that strikes me the most is how much effort you put into everything it's hard enough to make an excellent garment but then also to film it into style yourself and show off the garment and set up your background oh my God so much freaking work I am really impressed with the amount of effort
Thank you Kay ❤️
Omg the final result is so stinking cute and glamorous! I love it ❤️
Thank you Rachel!
Wow! I love this dress! At this stage of my life though I probably would not attempt it because I am not that good I wish. I understood everything you showed us today and your voice sounded fine to me. You are awesome. I would give anything to have a figure like yours.
Thank you Laurie!
This dress is a triumph! Very flattering; very spooky. Love the whole concept.
Thank you Teresa!
Lovely spooky dress! And also very nice touch with the bee pumpkin although your wide pumpkin is still my favourite. And having a dress with swoosh is so delightful - I'm not sure I'd be able to keep still at your cocktail party 🙂
Thank you Peta! 🎃
I love those seamed stockings. They really add a finished look to your beautiful dress. Mom gave me my first pair of seamed stockings when I was in the 7th grade. I could not keep the seams straight. A few years later seamless stockings came out. I have always liked stockings better than pantyhose. Everyone would stop and look you over, if you were to walk through any business here. Most young people living here today have never seen any woman dressed up so beautifully.
Thank you Arvetta!
Perfectly spooky! Damn, this dress broke my brain, it was whole workout for it! 😂 But it ended up so beautiful, elegant and like a definition of 'halloween cocktail dress'. And about polyester, I personally hate wearing it but if you already had it then why not use it. Of course everyone would like it to be silk, but it would be ridiculously expensive and I think that buying this mesh in silk quality would be impossible.
Thank you Natalia! If they had real silk spiderweb lace I would be very tempted 😅✨
You have caught us in your sewing web again 🕸🕷🎃 beautiful dress. The collar is perfect, love the color and I think that lace fabric would be awesome over lots of colors 😊
Thank you Tena!
hehe "flanges" don't know why I found that description amusing but I did. That sneaky peak of orange as you turn is just delicious, as are those shoes! This is a great outfit with all those details! And the extra hours were worth it! The more sewing I do the more I realise that with more knowledge and skill comes the realisation that it takes more time not less to make a garment! And its usually with less frustration than my beginning days too. Less unpicking for one!
Thank you! Less unpicking is always a good thing ✨
If you can imagine some opera singer lady singing AWESOME at full volume at the finale, that's what this dress is.
😂 Thank you Teresse!
I wish you many, many opportunities to wear your gorgeous makes.
The collar! Love it!!
Thank you!
Appearing in images that you curate, and allowing others to take pics of you - which they will then do as they please with - entirely separate things.
You really nailed it with this one. I love that you are thinking more out side the box with so many of your designs latley. I was thinking as you were talking about not enjoying the construction process that you could use partner to do the construction for you. The best would be if they were a great life partner to. 😉
Thank you Cindy! If I can choose a random skill for a life partner one day, I want someone who can keep house plants alive, becuase I love them but I kill them 🤣
I always love your work, but I especially enjoyed this one. What a gorgeous dress.
Thank you!
You should definitely get more of the mesh. You know you'll regret it if you don't and then spend *hours* trying to recreate the effect on other items :) It is gorgeous! As is the dress ^^
Thank you! More mesh...has been ordered 😂
The dress is magnificent! Have I mentioned yet how much I love your set decorations?
Thank you Dannie!
Another beautiful dress! Also, I am getting my Singer Spartan (a non embellished version of the 99k) and it will be delivered later this week! Thanks so much for sharing your talents and inspiration!
Thank you Elizabeth! I hope the Spartan is running great!!
Such a work of art!
Thank you Janice!
You are incredible. Thank you for showing all your beautiful creatures.
Thank you Sandra!
Lovely 🥰 I thought it was red in the thumb nail. I love Halloween esque clothes
Thank you Tonya!
Understitching works almost as many miracles as clipping your curves
I didn't think l would like it but l love it now that it is finished. Love your spiderwebs mesh too
Very pretty and an excellent fit as well. Bravo!🦇🕸🕷
Thank you!
At first I was like what in the world is that skirt but then in the end it was amazing. I thought I would not like the window showing the underskirt but in the end it’s a total serve!!!
Thank you Hannah!
My void kitten supports the making of this dress! It looks amazing!
Thank you!!
Very impressive! Love the finished dress. It would be great to do one small shot in 'daylight' to see the full colour. But if you have to have mood lighting, your choice of blue makes me happy!
This is, by far, my favorite Halloweenish dress! ❤️ Love it!
Thank you Denise!
At my house you would be the height of fashion and the life of the party! Excellent design!
Love from Cathy in Alabama 🥰🥰
Thank you Cathy! 🎃
The dress came out great! Love it.
Thank you!
Stare at the drawing ... about the third hour. 👻 This absolutely cracked me up. You look stunning as always. I so want this dress to have its own unique fascinator. 👒 Can't wait to see the Look Book for all these grand creations. 🕸️ Happy Halloween! 🎃
Thank you! 🎃
Thank you, Bianca, for the added treat of a video on Monday !!! 😻😻😻 What an Amazing Cocktail Dress of such Grandeur !!! 😻🕷🕸 The layering of such delicate fabrics creates a delightful addition to any Holiday closet. Bravo! Outstanding! Well Done! 👏👏👏 Happy Halloween! 😻👻👻🧛🧙♀🦋🍷
Thank you Dolores!
The broach you are wearing looks amazing
Really liking the "halloween" inspired videos....
Thank you! 🎃
Taffeta and Shantung and mesh, oh my! 😂 looks amazing, very jealous.
Thank you Claire!
Wonderful surprise!
Fabulous! And you look so happy to be wearing it at the end. Love that open hip detail; it's almost scandalous.
And when you're fixing up your Victorian house of course you'll have to wear something intimidating to answer the door for the tradespeople.
Thank you Cheryl! Yes all the witchy outfits for the UPS delivery folks 😂✨
