Making a Wrap Dress // A Simple Retro Style

  • Wrap dresses can be made in oh so many styles, and today I have a basic retro wrap based on some of the simpler 1940's designs I have seen. I added the tulip sleeves once again, and finally made use of the black background floral cotton sateen I have had in my stash for a while!

First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

I love your long videos. I have a goal of getting good at patterning and you are one of the ONLY channels I've seen that focuses on patterning creatively instead of a bunch of math. I can do math. That's not an issue. It's the creative part that stops me up. I need to watch people like YOU - being creative. Love your channel!

I am not into vintage sewing at all (though I admire the work you and other vintage seamstresses do) but I am learning an awful amount of stuff just from watching your videos. Love, love, love your Halloween decorations. Your wrap dress is beautiful. I had to laugh when you commented about sometimes you have fabric that is to pretty to cut into. About 30+ yrs ago I worked in the fabric dept of TG&Y. My mother love to sew. We had some beautiful solid sage and sage plaid double knit. Very warm for winter. My mom fell in love with it. It was out of her price range. So for Christmas I bought her enough of the solid to make a dress, a pair of slacks, and probably a top. I got enough of the plaid for a long sleeve jacket and a sleeve less top. She cried when she opened her present. But she never cut into the fabric. I still have it. You can't kill double knit. I may make me something out of it. Love your show.

But I am 70 and apple shaped, so I don't think that is happening any time soon, LOL...Thanks so much for sharing this with us. P.S. Like the new eyeshadows. I hope they aren't hurting your eyes to much. P.S....You can always have Halloween stuff out. Christmas is my fav and I kept my mantel decorated for years. People made fun of me all of the time when they visited, but I didn't care. At night, it looked so pretty with the candles and mini lights, evergreen garland and red beads, so I kept it up all year. I lived alone for many years, so I felt who cares? I liked it and that was all that mattered to me. Do you!

Luckily I'm a head hits pillow zzzzz person but the first evening I worked under my new mag lamp (daylight bulb) it took me over an hour to fall asleep so now I stop work an hour before which seems to fix it. The other thing I do - like your other poster - is select a vlogger with a soothing voice and background music and as soon as my eyes start to droop I can usually put it down and zzzz. Personally I hope the new ink isn't going to be too visible as I find too much ink - especially colour for some reason - to be very distracting but it's your body so you do you - now who on earth says that?! However I'm sure I'll cope and I'm probably madly in the minority regarding tatoos these days. Looking forward to the next project as always 😀

I LOVE your hair color and the style is amazing. I feel like it really suits you. The top lifted side part is something that I try to do as well. I think that curly hair lends to that sort of style

i love the neckline. wraps in the front are most often quite low, which is not a look i like for myself. also, halloween is a lifestyle, so do with that what you will.

I've been thinking about wrap dresses lately! That exact vintage pattern was what set me off too! I was thinking of making it up as a two piece, wrap skirt and wrap top combo, to get more wear out of them. Gonna bookmark this one!
