Chigg, that thick piece of leather with the rivets looks to me the equivalent of a brake shoe but for a covered wagon. I am not saying thaats what it is 100%, but they used leather like that to even stop the very first cars. That went all off 3-5mph.
The iron disk with lead reminds me of the way the canister shots were made in New Orleans, Louisiana for use by the Washington Artillery. Due to the tropical climate, wood sabots would rot, iron sabots were coated with lead to prevent rust.
What a beautiful dog~. Question: Have you ever found a Hostess Twinkee yet? (just kidding). You know,....if I had to be resurrected back into this life when life is over,.....I'd hate to be Beau's washing machine. Is that one thing you dug up a massive suspender clip or is it a pitchfork for a squirrel family? (My former classmates said: "you're always cutting up". God help us if we loose our sense of humor.). Thanks for showing us the sapsucker workings. I always learn so much from Chigg.
Hi Aquachigger, really nice to know the home owner is a history lover, and you’re giving back. I do that it’s a nice thing. I’d love to come dig with you one day😊
Aloha Chigg, Can't help it 2:30, 3:26, 4:05, 6:20, 6:39 they just can't stop aerosol spraying can they. So West Virginia taxed dogs in 1939. Really scraping the barrel for power.
Man that’s a cool place so much good stuff there that’s crazy hopefully the owners happy and you’ll be back some more…. How rare is that pelican button beau? Thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼
Brad Martin from Green Mountain Metal Detecting found a reed and he said it's off of a Harmonica Reed. He found that at a beach a couple weeks ago in Vermont.
Sapsuckers aren’t after the sap; they’re after the insects that get stuck in the sap. They make the wells and come back to revisit them periodically to harvest the stuck insects.
I've been watching your videos for about or over 2 years and I am so amazed at the relics you always find. I was really amazed at you finding that rifle in the river. Thank you and keep on trucking. Haha 😂.
Chigg, ...Enjoy your videos from here in Ohio. I believe the thing you think is to a suspender clip may be the inter teeth to an 18th c. neck stock buckle. Found a very similar fragment on a Col. Bouquet camp from 1764, and have seen similar complete buckles with that style on clasp. May want to look some up.
Since Jim got that Louisiana button it got me thinking that you should do a showcase of your best buttons. Maybe even a series of videos where you show your best buckles, shells or proudest finds. Of course giving us some classic Chigg knowledge in those videos. You might be saving those type of videos for when the legs and back go kaput though, I understand.
Often I offer the property owner all the finds in exchange for permission. I cried when I dug two VMI buttons on a property near New Roads and the owner took them. But they were proof that the cadets had either camped or crossed the property. The owner gave me permission to come again and wouldn't take anything, but I decided against it.
@ranmarch6768 If you have to, a better way to do it is to make a deal that you get to keep one thing of your choice each time you dig. Dig one good thing that you want to keep and leave until the next time.

Thank you for a good video. Does anyone else sing along with the outro? I enjoy the song. Have a great week.
Nice hunt Molly sure seems to want to help you find stuff
She's a good doggie.
Sapsucker woodpeckers drill a line of holes in a long fiber tree so that the out-flowing sap will catch bugs and they come back later for a feast.
YAY, right off the bat a Crotal for Lindsey!
OOPS, just heard you have to give everything to the Owner! DANG!!
Nice button and bell too! Dogs do love to dig holes. Especially when they see you digging one too!
The little handle/grip is part of a 16-1700s era toy gun, sometimes called a petronel.
Thank You Molly for the assistance
That was a very nice bell, thanks Chigg.
Beautiful Louisiana button. Congrats to Jim

That is a sweet button plus a nice crotal bell on the day!!!
The little helper was hilarious 😆
Molly was on to something😅

The season has just started and you're really hittin it. Good stuff! Thanks.
Look at those pretty blossoms on the magnolia tree! Some really nice finds, too.

Great to see some buds on the trees, still desolate up here in maine. Get those chickens chig!
Sap sucker reminds me of someone you used to hunt with.
Good stuff Chig! Keep on keeping on.
I'd swear I've seen that handle before, not sure if it was a knife handle or cane handle though
Great hunt 👍👍❤️
Fantastic button, well found.

⛏THANKS CHIGG!!😊👍
Any time!
When kwik set locks are new two come on a thin steel ring , long ago rusted away, keys chrome plated brass, maybe fit the home,.
I need to get back down to the Cumberland area this year.
Very sad. I have watched so many Chig videos that I can now sing along to the ending theme song, and know every word.
i love it man keep going
Thanks, will do!

Awesome finds!
Another adventure I enjoyed. What don't you know? Great ID of button for Jim. I kept trying to see an eagle on that button! LOL,
I have been lucky to keep all my finds.

Good afternoon from Southeast South Dakota
Adventure time!
Those little strips og metal that are missing are called 'reeds'
Was soldering copper gutter yesterday
wow that button is a treasure
The handle is almost certainly from a Victorian era Pistol Grip Handle Button Hook
Best wishes from Russia
Its a handle to a toy gun!!! I found one and so did stef digs. 1600s i was told. Cant remember the name of the toy
The music....lol
Good evening from Syracuse NY brother and how are the kittens doing?
All good
Outstanding my friend
Maybe the handle to a faucet
👍
😀
Howdy!
Howdy
Forgot the crotal bell! Can we assume its destination?
Wonder if your clip isn't part of a medal or ribbon. Maybe it was upside down.
♥
👍👍🔥🔥
Where can I get one of you ChigArmy hat?
Well I'm glad you did not find gold coins
How do you know if your funds are 1800s time period?
If the owners family has owned it since the mid 1700s I wonder what’s in the attic?
Do you end up recycling the scrap metal?

Digging coins is so weird. Zinc penny 6 inches deep. V nickel and what was left of a Shield nickel only 2- 3 inches deep in the same area.?!?!
Did Jim get to keep his button?
He did.
Its called a petronel toy gun
C’mon Ching! That’s a tulip tree, not a magnolia😃
