We lose a lot of beginner skaters because this information is either hard to find or brands and even some shops straight out hide it to just mindlessly sell their inventory quick. I went through 4 pairs of skates before I discovered how a perfect fitting skate feels like, not everyone has that kind of patience.
@@ThisissoulI work in a roller skate store in Russia. And God, how difficult it is to explain all this to everyone. For each of the facts in the video, I came by myself, and it was long, hard and expensive. But the worst thing is when pro riders come. Most of them don't understand why I'm trying to fit their skates correctly. I feel like a man struggling with a windmill, and I want to cry.
This is the best lesson in the world! I have 3 pairs of skates because I didn't know how to choose them. Now I understand how to do it. Thanks and greetings from St. Petersburg.
Yeah, I just did the experiment about trying on the hard boot without liner. I got lots of space in length, but the hard boot alone fits my width with hardly any clearance. I guess I just need to keep the cuffs tight to deal with the front space.
Fr skates, fr neo skates, rollerblade cruiser, rollerblade lightning, seba cj2. That's all the ones that i know off the top of my head that fit wide feet.
Same, I have some UFR skates that are just incredibly narrow and unwearable with the stock chunky liners on my feet. I bought some slimmer Myfit liners that helped some, but the shell is still too narrow and I just get hot spots and blisters. So I took my heat gun to them and stretched the crap out of the toe box and that seems to be my best effort thus far. Sometimes I feel like people have tiny Barbie feet to fit in skates.
@@doctorgonzo7777 Thanks for sharing. - But I've skated the FR1 (41-42EU) for a long time. It wasn't wide enough for me. - The Powerslide Next (42-43) was to narrow. - Been skating the Them 908 Medium (42-43) with a Intuition V2 Medium (41-42) and it's bearable, but still not quite wide enough. Plus got super annoyed at looking at the wasted space in the front of my toes. - Recently got a pair of USD Carbon Free (42) and even without the insole it's not wide enough. The Roces 5th Element looks to be the widest boot on the market. I might try that next.
I needed this video 2 weeks ago! I already bought some skates (RB Crossfire) and found out while skating that it was too big. I am trying to return it. I hope to buy something from you soon. Thanks for your videos that have helped me a lot. Greeting from Zürich
Thank you. I bought a pair that seems way too small and tight, and when you said it's supposed to be tight, I gave them a second chance. It still feels tight, but not necessarily uncomfortable except for the sides of the bridge of my feet. And despite feeling super tight, when I took the liner out and did the finger test, I can fit 2, almost 3 fingers in there! So it really varies per brand, per foot, and per person
My left foot was usually fine, but I could never get my right foot tight enough. After checking without the liner it was clear my boots are actually too big. However, I put the soles of my running shoes in, tightened the laces a bit and now they fit really well now. Huge difference. Does not feel lose at all anymore and it skates much better, I can get them as tight as I want now.
Best video about sizes and downsize, really pay attention to this guy, probably is the best helping you to improve your skate im 10 years experienced pro roller if i know this at the beginning I preciated a lot ❤
I have a pair of FR1 Deluxe in the 41 size/8.5-9.0, but the Size 7 shell size is a bit small for my 265ish mm foot. I found the measured foot sizes on FR size charts to be pretty accurate.
I have the same skate in 42 and it's perfect for my 280mm feet. I had to heat mold the boot repeatedly, though. I did ALOT of research this time around, as before that I had some FRXs that were a size too big, and it definitely affected my control
I'm somewhat a beginner skater. Made a mistake on my first pair of skates buying upsized. My normal shoe size is 41 and the shell is for 43/44. The only reason at first I felt it was ok was that the liner was thick and it fits comfortably, which I realized after a few skating sessions that its too big and felt like I'm skating in "clown shoes". Now on my second pair of skates, I bought a size 41/42 skates. Now even though it's better, without the liner it's got 2 fingers space. I feel like I should downsize.. Maybe for my next pair of skates.
Right now I'm struggling to understand my foot sizing regarding my skates, I have 1-1,5 finger clearance on the shell on my frx, I usually wear 40,5 EU shoe size and got the 39EU Size on the skates, the linerit has seems like a perfect fit at first, length wise is perfect but I struggle to move my toes which makes it feel cramped, when I get my feet into the skates fully assembled I just feel a lot of pressure on my toes, it feels like it's too narrow when I'm trying to wear everything at the same time, because I can barely move my toes let alone the constant pressure, don't know if I should keep trying to skate them to wear down the liner or if I should just try a different liner on this shell :/
Everything in this video is spot on. Using an extra or different insole fixes 90% of my fit issues (that's after buying the best fitting shell in the first place of course). Thanks for providing the spreadsheet. I think it was missing a lot of new models the last time I used it, but for a 27cm foot there was only really one option with a 280mm internal length (M12). Yikes. Look forward to visiting soon.
8:00 Your videos are by far the best, most comprehensive ones I've found so far. Just wondering if you happen to have an idea of when we can expect the widths video? Even just knowing the widths of the wider-fitting pairs would be extremely helpful!
I'm trying to get the seba cj2 prime. Some say to go a few mm larger some say go down a whole size since they say its too big. Some on reddit said it's too small. Then you have a little bit diff info on skate site
I recently got into rollerblading and absolutely love your channel! Such great information here! I live in the UK but plan to visit Amsterdam later this year and would love to pop in for a Friday evening run :)
I've got a pair of FR3s that I bought online and they fit me pretty well, but I realized after watching your video that there is a lot of space at the front, probably 3cm (without liner), however I almost touch the sides.. I guess my foot width to length ratio is abnormal, because the skate is only 1 size bigger than what I normally wear for shoes. However, while they look rather big, they simultaneously feel "too small", like I have to squeeze my foot real hard to put them on even with the laces partly undone, I guess I need to consider looking at a new shell/liner? When I tighten the buckles and laces they sit pretty tight and I've had some good sessions but I'm wondering if I should have gone with a smaller shell.. Thanks for the insight
Oh my god, what a crucial information! Why didnt i watch this like the very first video when I started learning few weeks ago? Now I know i bought shoes too big. It got even bigger after few hours of skating. And i was kinda struggling, not like I was falling, but i was kinda wobbly every time i tried something like turning, breaking.... didn't know why, i thought I am so lame (which may be true still :)). However, just tighitng up shoealices like there is no tomorow - the experience got sooo much beter, like i can feel so stable now and everyhing is so much easier,. even riding on one skate is doable now, which was impossible before. I cannot wait to buy new smaller skates, i wish i can go to your shop, but, its too far for me :/ Thank you for the video!
I'm from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 I wish you were here so I could visit your shop to buy some. But Thank I'm a beginner, I just bought a normal softboot to practice few month ago and now I'm thinking about to buy a hardboot and this information will help me alot. Oh by the way do you think If I tell you all of my foot measurements you can ship a pair of good skates? Or I should try on my own in any local shop to buy perfect? Thanks again ❤
Hi! The best thing is to come to our store in Amsterdam or Berlin and try on the skates yourself. With just measurements it will always be a gamble. We can for sure try to give you a size advice online as well. Just send us a message at our customer support and then we can find a skate that works for you.
We may have inspired this video or maybe this was in the pipeline already (myself and girlfriend got the chance to be in amsterdam over the weekend 😄and got the chance to try on skates for the girlfriend; next pair will definitely be gotten from thisissoul!) For the 8:11 part of the video, for any other wide footed people as a wide feet anomaly (roughly ~245x105mm flippers for reference): You can't beat going into the shop but from personal experience and reddit browsing; I think the Rollerblade RB for freeskate and Roces 5th elements for aggressive are probably one of the best wide feet choices My only personal regret would be following the mondopoint too closely; currently I'm using an EU40/UK6 5th Element Shell with a RL2 medium liner for a pretty good fit. When the Aeon V2 comes out hopefully next year I might be able to justify another pair and try the EU42 shell (EU40 even with a second skin liner was slighly too cramped but useable)
Im Brazilian and here traxart is a very popular skate company. I have the "traxart green" rollerblade. The liner fits tight and perfect, but the shell is 3 fingers bigger than my feet! I aways felt the skate was way too heavy, now I know the reason. The shell is too big, and the liner they made for these has really thick cushion on the cuff area, making both buckle straps close really tight. I regret not knowing about this before buying...
Thank you for all explanations. I have one unique pair of Rollerblades because here is too expensive and my Feets are huuuuge. So i had no choice but picking one that its ok Size, it doesn't hurt my thumbs , but it kills my ankles. People told me to use better socks, but even with socks and trying to improvise with some fluffy materials(That helps a little) after like 40 minutes i start to feel ankles, both feet :(
I would like my skates to fit a little more snug, unfortunately, they’re a softboot. K2 VO2 90. Since proper liners are not available for softboots, could you us a 5mm thick scuba dive sock as a “liner”? It makes sense to me but wouldn’t mind your opinion please. Thank you.
Unfortunately, the staff at my local skate shop didn't help me buy the right size of the shell, and I knew nothing about skates and skating back then. My Imperial shell is a size too big for me, thankfully with the Myfit Fat Boy liner and 2 insoles they work for regular fitness/urban skating just fine. With all the info from your videos and personal experience, I'll be able to buy skates in the right size next time. Thanks for all the hard work you put into making your videos!💙
For toe joint and toe nail health i recommend not to squeeze your toes into the toe box. We all know how damaged female feet are if women have chosen too small pumps.
@@pablosskates7067 wrong. Skates are never shaped like feet. Look at the feet and toes of professional skaters in hockey, figure, speed, freestyle, slalom a.s.o They all wear too tight skates for performance reasons and many of them have deformed toes.
Hey Ivo, thanks so much for the helpful videos! I'm currently looking to buy skates, but I've been struggling to find a pair that doesn’t cause discomfort. Right now, I’m trying out the FR NEO 2 in size 42 (even though I’m normally a 41 EU), but after just 15 minutes, I start feeling sharp pain on the outer bone of my feet. I suspect it’s due to having a high instep, which seems to make everything feel cramped and tight. I’ve heard that the NEO 2 is supposed to be good for wider feet, but even with the sizing advice from your video, they become painful after just wearing them-not even skating yet. I also gave the FR1’s a try, but those caused even worse discomfort. It feels like most of the pressure is concentrated on the bone where the big toe connects to the foot (not sure what that bone’s called, haha). Do you have any recommendations for skates that might be better suited for high arches and/or wider feet? Would really appreciate your insights! Thanks in advance! P.S.: Would love your opinion on the NEO 2s? P.S.2: I just measured my feet and they are 25cm to the longest point (standing with the heel against the wall), should I downsize even though the 42s already feel cramped?
I am skating a Seba trix 2 which I think ended up being too big for me. I put an insole in it but in order to get it tight enough, I have to tighten the laces so tight that it squeezes my foot laterally so hard it's excruciating after about ten minutes and I have to loosen them. I'm concerned downsizing (or right-sizing) won't be better since my feet seem too wide but not tall enough. There is too much space at the toe as well. Any advice?
I already bought some skates before i saw this, i bought the K2 F.I.T 84 Pro Inliners, expensive enough (even they are what you say here should not buy because its plastic, cannot take out liner), i do feel they fit nice, but i have really nothing to compare it to, havent had on a pair for 20 years now :P
I got size 44.5 RB 110 3WD since my feet are super wide. But the liner is puny. My toe is squished in the front and my pinky toe and outside of foot is smashed. Even when I wear the liner outside the boot in the house. My bare foot is 11" long, and foot in liner is 11.5" long. However when I put my bare foot in the skate without liner, the boot is huge! It's over 1" longer than my foot. So it's almost 1" longer than the outside of the liner. Is this normal? If I get thinner liners, I fear my boot will be way too big for them.
Question, i got the fr2s in US 11.5/ EU 45 which comes in an EU 47 shell, the liner fits perfectly and i dont think i could downsize(or maybe i could im not sure, let me know what you reccomend) but with just my foot in the shell i have almost 2 inches of front to back wiggle room. Overall the whole set up feels great but i do feel like im on the low end of clown shoes when skating lol. And on the websites sizing chart(inlinewearhouse) the shell size jumpsdown from 47 to 44, do you think i could manage that shell downsizing with my current liner? My foot is 28.5cm and i hesitate to try and jam it in a 28cm liner associated with that shell. Thoughts and reccommendations would be much appreciated! P.s i live nowhere near any inline skate shops so im limited to online only and i would like to try to avoid having to frankenstein my skates if possible
hey ok so i was wondering if anyone knows about carbon boot sizing? I recently upgraded to the carbon tau boot from powerslide after skating through various sizes of the next boot for a couple years. MY issue with plastic skates was always the extra room lengthwise after a while wearing the liners in a bit. Now trying the carbon tau, they fit me really nice and snug after heat moulding. but have a pressure point length ways on my left foot... will this work in over time? I know the liners are moldeable but are the actual carbon shelling in anyway adaptable after wearing them in for a while? the tau have compression molded carbon (not layered carbon fibre) from my understanding... I heard with plastic skates that they can be marginally adapted with applied heat to the shell.
I almost gave up because I still can't even push forward properly. My skates are broken in and I can lift front and back of my feet that makes me feel uncomfortable/uncontrolled. Thanks for the information. Will buy new skates😊
have you tried to tighten up top buckle to maximum? my skate also too bigger. my leg is 23 cm, i have for 25 cm. but i can still rolling with one leg. and didn't find any issues when urban. maybe bcoz every brand come with different type. flying eagle brand is pretty narrow for asian.
This is a great video. So when I try to tight the laces the most I can, my feet get numb, and then I need to back up a little bit. I got a Twister XT and I was using the insert to make them tighter, replace the insole with a superfeet and then they were too tight. I remove the insert and it feels way better, but still my heel gets numb. I am using Intuition V2 with it. Any advice? Thanks!
Will the arch assist of a superfeet insole essentially shorten my feet marginally inside the skate? Higher arch but shorter overal length of ‘relaxed’ foot? I am asking because my feet at relatively flat and I could do with a couple of mm less length for more comfort. I have faction tactical size 46 (305 mm inside shell length with the US size 12 stock liner)… I love the width of the liner and puffiness at the top… Tried my Iqon prime liners and with those my toe no longer touches the front but the liner is too thin to fill the width of the skate and lock me in… Hence I would love to use an insole with a higher arch support to dial in the setup to perfection (if it works the way I envision)… what do you think? Will it work? I am also thinking the higher resulting arch on the top of my foot will make it easier for the laces to push my foot further back into the shell when properly tightened. Edit: just watched the rest of the video and you actually explain it works the way I hoped ^^
I have super super wide flat feet. I ended up being recommended some pretty big FR1 skates to get the larger shell. I think it is actually FRs largest shell so I would have the smallest liner in the largest shell. I have the stock FR1 liners and orthotic insoles from my snowboard boots that were custom made. In the end I still had issues with the width and heat gunned the crap out of my arch and outside edge of my boot to help with this. Now as I am skating better and more I do not have much foot pain but I am getting some heel lift. Other than adding some boomerangs on the heel area is there anything to do to take up some room between boot and liner? Are there thick AF intuition type liners that I could mold into the correct fit?
I almost give up on inline skates. I think I wanna switch to skateboard. After a YEAR with no progress at all. I work at the restaurant 6 days a week day to night so I only have 1 day a week to practice inline skating. At first I taught it was my posture and strength. Maybe it is. Tons of video I watched on yt all about posture. I never taught it was my skates size. A lot of people (on the internet) recommend to buy skates one size up my normal shoes and I do that. I never find this video until today. Year after no progression. When you talk about firm handshake mine didnt feel like it. More like a lose handshake on the front. I never take out the liners out my skates because there's no use for me. Today my first time I take it out and try it without the liner and my god that's way too big! It's like the one on your thumbnail. I never blame my skates before because I taught it's normally feel like that. Others practice inline skating for only two weeks and skates like a pro on week 3 while im still like a baby even after 1 full year! Rn I'm tryna sell my current skates for cheap and get one suitable for my size.
very cool to hear that you have been practicing for a year. Having the right size skates definitely helps. watch our beginners practicies playist on our youtube channel for skate tips!
Hello, I bought flying eagle b6 hero plus for man, my foot length is 27 cm, is the skate size 43-44 right for me (in the inner cover writes mondo 27-28) thank you.
got the fr1 size 45 today My foot Length: 28cm Width: 11cm the skates are too big (1cm from toe to inliner and at least 1,5 cm from inliner to shell). i ordered today size 44. keep you updated #1 update so i got the fr1 in size 44 - in my opionion there are still way too big like thisissoul said. I can fit 2 fingers with my feet in the shell and also when i try the skates with the liners i still got something around 1,5 cm place. Personally i dont think it's that bad for now but when the skates brake in it will be eventually too big. So i orded now the fr1 in sizes 42 and hopefully this will be the right sizes. eventually i will make a video of all 3 skates for u guys 2# so i got the fr in size 42 and it's just like in the video. my toes are touching the the front of the inliner and they are pretty tight. Unfortunately so tight that it kinda hurts my front toes because i have no space and feets are going numb. but i think they are right ones. between the inliner and shell i have at least 1 cm.
How are they wearing in for you? Did you get the intuition liner or the normal? My foot has the same dimensions as yours and just ordered the 43, might be a bit big :/
Foot length of 28cm in a 42, seems to be to small for me. I guess it should be a 43, not? I am around 26.7cm and the 42 with the original Seba FR1 lines feels to tight for me. i am still experimenting with different liners
@@olafolinger2711 No it isnt i have enough spave between liner and shell. but im struggling to find the perfect liner or something to minimize my foot length in the liner (arch support or superfeet insoles from his shop (still have to decide)) i even could go sizes 39/40 when there is enough space for my foot width (but i cant say because i haven't tested them) With 26,7 cm foot length i would go size 40...i mean you watched the video right. Take your liner out and look how much space you have between foot and shell. If you can put 2 finger easily in the shell, its way too big. Notices also (ruclips.net/video/LpBRTEBgNsU/видео.html&ab_channel=Thisissoul) that soul is saying at 3:50 in this video that skating sizing is super subjective because 2 people with same foot length can skate complety different skates.
I got the Powerslide Next and I have some trouble getting in/ out. When i'm in the skate though it feels okay and very responsive except for some pressure on the left ankle. I'm not sure if this would get better with heat molding/ breaking in the liners. Are they too tight/ should i get a differently shaped shell?
heatmolding the liner will help for sure. we can also boot fit the shell for you if you come to the store and make an appointment for that before you come. adding a butterfly wrap around the liner also helps taking off the ankle buckle and using our special lacing technique for the bottom laces also helps, then put a smaller piece of laces in the top holes to tighten those.
Is it normal that you buy skates in smaller sizes, than your shoes? I am wearing running shoes in EU42,5 and my old skates (K2) have EU41,5 and i have lot of space in front of my toe. Now i like to buy new skates online (Because all offline stores just have K2 and rollerblade as a brand) and regarding to the measurements i should take the EU40-41 😶
What would you do in case of overweight skaters? That the cuff in many can’t close Tbh I’ll have a bigger cuff installed but Frx a nice tight fit in 42 besides the back of the cuff the upper part, that’s not tight that kinda hurts without trying to lace it up with anything But those have fat fat liners. Then there is rollerblade lightning that new one. Without tightening anything it’s like a good fit, doesn’t hurt, like if you stuck your foot in a pillow, also size 42 The thing is, changing the thing to clasp the cuff will kill my warranty outright, while frx is only a change of the plastic 😅 Hard choices 😮
1) Install longer buckles 2) drill one new hole in the cuff and move the buckle forward 1.5cm 3) go to Amsterdam for a proper fitting when you want to have something that works for you 4) Most likely a V-cut will work best for your calf. you can also cut it yourself 5) loose weight
I've just bought myself a set of usd sway 57's and was thinking i bought the wrong size. I'm now wearing them round the house until i get out on them to break them in!😂
The real question is how do you shove your hand in the boot while wearing to check if it’s finger width. Things too tight to get down there. Use a pen of similar width maybe?
For FR1 stock liners and 266/264 mm feet, width: 10.5/10.6mm, the 40 Eu size should work right? I know it gonna be unbearable the first several sessions!??? Thank you for all the info you provide...
Width wise I would not know for sure. Length wise it will be very tight in the beginning, maybe you can put an old liner in it. With an intuition liner that shell would be great for sure.
Trying to downsize I went down 2 sizes (and 2 shells). The new skates have about 8mm gap in length behind my bare foot. Is there any liner that can accommodate such low available space?
Just flew from Portugal to Amsterdam and your store was the perfect excuse to do it 😅 I tried some different skates and in the end the Roces M12 LO TEAM BUIO size 44 I think we're the perfect match (and I'm a 42 +) Let's see now when I put some ride on those how it will feel.
I have a question for FR iGors. When I wanted some premium slalom skate like the HC Evo Pros I ordered them in EU46 (which have a 296 mondopoint suggestions). I touched the toebox with my 2nd toe where it really hurt so I returned them. That's why I ordered the iGors in EU47 (suggested MP is 30). My feet measured 303mm with MyFit socks (since I skate in them). But after a while and my slalom skills advanced a bit aswell the skate feels a bit too loose. Looking at FR size chart for the iGors the EU47 is for 30,5cm measured feet, and EU46 for 30cm measured feet that suggests a MP of 29.5. Did I make the right choice with EU47 though? I did my reasoning due to MP 29.6 for PS HC Evo Pros being too short. I did counter some wobbling or loose feel by using waxed laces. I would try them in EU46 but ordering them just to return them either way to time wasting (climate unfriendly aswell). There is no shop at all for not only such high-end models for mid-levels aswell. Only shop is Decathlon.
you are always welcome in Amsterdam to try all of them out. The only way to truely know is to have them on your foot. Those EU and MP sizes always will be a gamble and they are not translateble from foot to foot and from skate to skate.
@@Thisissoul Thanks for clarification and the invitation. I live in Germany so it won't be sooner or later. Every good shop is around 300 to 600km away from my honetown :(. I play with the mind opening a shop to be honest. But my city is skating unfriendly so this is just a playful thought out of frustration.
I hear you about the toes needing to touch the front of the boot, but if your toes have to curl when you're in a neutral position, is the boot too small? I ask because I think I'm between sizes. Based on my foot length, I'm at the uppet end of a 41 and in a 41 boot, my toes feel crammed right up at the front in a way that feels cramped and like it will hurt after not very long (I have a high arch already so I don't think I can make my foot much shorter). In a 42, my toes are close to, but don't touch the end of the boot, although the rest of the boot feels very snug. Any advice?
@@Thisissoul How I would love to do that. Do you have plans to expand your operation overseas? My wife would kill me if I took a flight to Amsterdam to get a pair of inline skates! I am looking through the selection on your website though.
But how tight is too tight? If I am getting pain then it's probably too tight? I have some extra length but the width is a bit tight. Sometimes my toes and ankle feel compressed. I get cramped pain on my big toe and pinky toe. I usually wear my skates somewhat loose for this reason. If I try to buckle up tight my ankle feels really tight or compressed. I intentionally bought a wider fitting skate because I knew I have wide feet. But it doesn't seem to be wide enough. One day I thought are skates not meant to be buckled up tight. So I tried doing so instead of wearing them as loose as I normally do. My legs and ankles around the buckles were sore for more than a week. I maybe tightened the buckles too much and didn't tighten the laces enough. Regardless thank you for the information! It really helped me better understand how skates fit. And hopefully from now on I can have a good fitted skate.
I scoured through your website for a bit but was unable to find a centralized "internal shell length" table as stated in the video? Is it really there?
Thanks for the Video but i find it to Late 🤣😩 i have 3 Fingers Space in the Shell. The Skates feel comfortable and tight but it really feels like i have Clown shoes on 😢
I would say it hurts performance yes, better to replace it with an intuition insole for performance. more info here ruclips.net/video/f5GXc9aO3vo/видео.html
@@Thisissoul Do you happen to know what size intuition shim fit a 42-43 FR1 deluxe? I'm thinking classic size us9 but not sure. They have "classic" M27/US9 "classic" M28/US10, "refined" M27-27.5/US9-9.5, "refined" M28-28.5/US10-10.5
Fyi for anyone else looking... classic 9 fits my FR1s size 9.5/10. Classic 10 fits my FR2s size 10.5. No trimming required. They really improved the fit of the boot for me and are comfortable. Thanks Ivo
i want 5th element yuto gotos but for some reason i cant find my size. i am 27.3 cm so i sould be a 10 but everywhere i got 10 is missing or people have different sizes which i found confusing
Can you help me please! 24 cm foot and I really like rollerblade rb cruiser w) but the only one shop is in about 87 km!!! So I have to buy it only in online shop! Which size I should buy?)) now I use fila fitness but it's really not good for urban)))
Get size EU 39 -UK 6 -US 7 keep in mind the liner breaks in after few sessions if it feels too tight in the beginning. You can also play around by wearing thin or thicker socks. Hope this helps! Happy blading xx
I don't get it he says superfeet insoles add to length I. One section of vide and in another it substracts from it🤷♂️ the way I see it math would suggest that it would add to length since you add to Haight. Can someone elaborate?
it shortends the foot and makes it higher as wel 1) if your skate is too big at the top, it helps to fill up the space at the top 2) if your skate is too short in the front, it helps by shortening the foot
The insight about avoiding smaller stock liners in dual sized shells has been really helpful! I have been comparing size 39 and 40 liners in the FR Neo 2 39-40 and can barely see or feel a difference between them, now I understand why. The question I'm pondering now is whether the 39-40 shell will be the right size when I eventually put an intuition liner in it in the future. FR haven't released their Neo 1 Intuition sizing yet, curious to see which shell they pair with which liner size.
Interestingly, my measured foot size is 24cm and the 39-40 shell (suitable for 24-24.5cm measured foot according to FR) is a very comfortable fit with the brand new stock liner, maybe a bit more wiggle at the calf than I would like. But, am aware they will loosen more and there's a bit over the 1 and a half fingers at the heel you mention in the shell with no liner. I'd say about 1cm width and 2cm length of space around my foot without liner. Which makes me think I could probably downsize with a thinner (intuition) liner. Smaller FR Neo 2 and the Neo 1 Intuition due at the end of the month. What does this all mean? I think your video is absolutely spot on for my case. It begs the question as to whether shells and liners should be sold separately?
@@AreyaEtoli I think the stock liners would be too tight for me in the 36-38 as I struggled to get into the 39-40. The 39 liner is a perfect fit out of the box, but have no idea if it would squeeze into the 36-38 shell. I have wider feet so the width feels nice, this is the main thing I'm worried about in the smaller shell. Toe box has lots of room and at least with liner the instep is very supported. LocoSkates in the UK did a video that shows being able to downsize when using an intuition liner, hence I'm very tempted to wait for the Neo 1 and see what the official sizing says from FR. Weight wise I was surprised how heavy they are. The base of the dual shell is rock solid, while the upper is very flexible, like this a lot. I suspect it's the cast frame on the Neo 2's, again the Neo 1 switches to extruded which I suspect will help. I was planning to upgrade to intuition later not from the start, but I suspect the shell size I would need will be different. A real pain this sizing lark as the closest physical shop to me that stocks decent skates is over 4 hours away.
@@AreyaEtoli I thought they would feel heavy when I picked them up, but on the feet they are fine. Solid and planted feel at the base. I think what I'm feeling is mainly the usual issue with stock liners being too squishy (my current skates have harder than usual foam). The Neo Dual boot itself is stunning.
Please please please tell the brands to also do width sizing. It's really awful how none of the brands put out their width and ankle volume measurements.
We are always pushing the brands to be better in those regards. However, even if all the brand would do it then it would also a matter of how good you can compare these numbers.
I'm gonna have to try it and I'm using this method cause no way I'm paying 375 for boots that are not the right fit. I want it close to perfect for performance. Whole point of them lol
Where is the youtube short about how to tighten your laces that you said would be linked in the description? Update I found it on the side videos but not in description do better. :)
Hello lovely bladies and thisissoul-team, thanks a lot for this really informative and crisis-inducing video! :D i have just concluded (after feeling it for a couple of weeks of somewhat intense skating) that my seba e3s are one solid size too big. now i am torn between getting another pair a size smaller or stuffing the skates i have into oblivion and beyond. to be honest i don't feel like doing the latter, since I'd like my power to be translated to the wheels and not lost in an eternity of padding. do you guys know of a direct way of exchanging or selling/buying used skates? if i get a fitting (new) pair, I'd probably like to sell my larger ones. any resources on that? is there maybe a service, that refurbishes skates? thanks in advance 🙏🏻
There is no channel for know other than the websites like ebay that you already know. Hope you find the right skate and I am glad we could help with that.
More pressure on the top of your foot will relieve pressure from your ties. -Tighten the laces more -bend your ankle more. put your knee over toe -close your buckle(s) better
We lose a lot of beginner skaters because this information is either hard to find or brands and even some shops straight out hide it to just mindlessly sell their inventory quick. I went through 4 pairs of skates before I discovered how a perfect fitting skate feels like, not everyone has that kind of patience.
I totally agree. This is so fundemental.
So true
Well said.
Exactly
@@ThisissoulI work in a roller skate store in Russia. And God, how difficult it is to explain all this to everyone. For each of the facts in the video, I came by myself, and it was long, hard and expensive.
But the worst thing is when pro riders come. Most of them don't understand why I'm trying to fit their skates correctly. I feel like a man struggling with a windmill, and I want to cry.
This is the best lesson in the world! I have 3 pairs of skates because I didn't know how to choose them. Now I understand how to do it. Thanks and greetings from St. Petersburg.
Ахах, тоже самое только у меня пока две пары - одна слишком большая, вторая слишком тесная 😅. Выбираю третью теперь 😂
Looking forward to the video about the shell width!
Such a frustrating topic for us with wide feet.
Same, I’m an 11 EE in US sizes (28cm with a 11cm toe box) and the Them 909s are the only skate I’ve found that are not pure pain.
Great to hear!
So those skates no good for narrow feet?
Happy to help!
@@HotFiya05 how did you heat mold them? Mine, 248mm wide feet in 39 FR1 are too tight around the ankle, even hurting a bit.
Glad we could help here! too bad it was a bit too late
Super appreciate all the very in depth videos you guys make. Absolutely critical information for people to have the best skating experience possible!
Our pleasure!
Thank you do much for this ❤
Everything in this video is spot on.
Go for it!
see you soon!
Very important information... been wracking my head between different skate sites, reddit, and youtube. End up being more confused 😅
I cannot wait to buy new smaller skates, i wish i can go to your shop, but, its too far for me :/ Thank you for the video!
just bought inline skates but they are little bigger because all smaller sizes were for kids then, gonna re-watch this video
We may have inspired this video or maybe this was in the pipeline already (myself and girlfriend got the chance to be in amsterdam over the weekend 😄and got the chance to try on skates for the girlfriend; next pair will definitely be gotten from thisissoul!)
For the 8:11 part of the video, for any other wide footed people as a wide feet anomaly (roughly ~245x105mm flippers for reference):
You can't beat going into the shop but from personal experience and reddit browsing; I think the Rollerblade RB for freeskate and Roces 5th elements for aggressive are probably one of the best wide feet choices
My only personal regret would be following the mondopoint too closely; currently I'm using an EU40/UK6 5th Element Shell with a RL2 medium liner for a pretty good fit.
When the Aeon V2 comes out hopefully next year I might be able to justify another pair and try the EU42 shell (EU40 even with a second skin liner was slighly too cramped but useable)
cool that you came to the shop!
the RB Cruiser for allround skating and the 5th element for wide foot is for sure a good advice to people
Im Brazilian and here traxart is a very popular skate company.
People told me to use better socks, but even with socks and trying to improvise with some fluffy materials(That helps a little) after like 40 minutes i start to feel ankles, both feet :(
Maybe We can help you with bootfitting your shell and punching out the pressure point.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into making your videos!💙
good to hear that we were able to help out here!
For toe joint and toe nail health i recommend not to squeeze your toes into the toe box. We all know how damaged female feet are if women have chosen too small pumps.
Is it really the same though. Most skates are the shape of human feet, whereas women’s high heels are triangular at the front.
@@pablosskates7067 wrong. Skates are never shaped like feet. Look at the feet and toes of professional skaters in hockey, figure, speed, freestyle, slalom a.s.o They all wear too tight skates for performance reasons and many of them have deformed toes.
Health isn't about aesthetics. Never seen someone hobbled from tight inlines.
Any advice?
I'll join you waiting for a reply on this one!
I joining you too!
@@syazwantheboogies8616 @DanceOfDawn Is this a problem y'all are having too?
Will buy new skates😊
good luck! check out Thisissoul.com or come by one of our stores to fit your skates.
have you tried to tighten up top buckle to maximum? my skate also too bigger. my leg is 23 cm, i have for 25 cm. but i can still rolling with one leg. and didn't find any issues when urban.
maybe bcoz every brand come with different type. flying eagle brand is pretty narrow for asian.
Any advice? Thanks!
What do recommend for a narrow foot? Something up to €350 ? Or should try your method if i get something that's a little wide?
You can filter skates by width in our webshop. Take a look at that :)
Edit: just watched the rest of the video and you actually explain it works the way I hoped ^^
glad you found the answer!
good luck with that.

Hello, I bought flying eagle b6 hero plus for man, my foot length is 27 cm, is the skate size 43-44 right for me (in the inner cover writes mondo 27-28) thank you.
You will know when you have then and try them. The best test is to take the liner out and see how much room the shell gives. Good luck!
got the fr1 size 45 today
My foot Length: 28cm
Width: 11cm
the skates are too big (1cm from toe to inliner and at least 1,5 cm from inliner to shell). i ordered today size 44.
keep you updated
#1 update
so i got the fr1 in size 44 - in my opionion there are still way too big like thisissoul said. I can fit 2 fingers with my feet in the shell and also when i try the skates with the liners i still got something around 1,5 cm place. Personally i dont think it's that bad for now but when the skates brake in it will be eventually too big.
So i orded now the fr1 in sizes 42 and hopefully this will be the right sizes.
eventually i will make a video of all 3 skates for u guys
2#
so i got the fr in size 42 and it's just like in the video. my toes are touching the the front of the inliner and they are pretty tight.
@@olafolinger2711 No it isnt i have enough spave between liner and shell. but im struggling to find the perfect liner or something to minimize my foot length in the liner (arch support or superfeet insoles from his shop (still have to decide)) i even could go sizes 39/40 when there is enough space for my foot width (but i cant say because i haven't tested them)
With 26,7 cm foot length i would go size 40...i mean you watched the video right.
Are they too tight/ should i get a differently shaped shell?
heatmolding the liner will help for sure.
we can also boot fit the shell for you if you come to the store and make an appointment for that before you come.
adding a butterfly wrap around the liner also helps
taking off the ankle buckle and using our special lacing technique for the bottom laces also helps, then put a smaller piece of laces in the top holes to tighten those.
@@Thisissoul What's a butterfly wrap? Very intriguing!
What brands do you recommend for wide feet?
Is it normal that you buy skates in smaller sizes, than your shoes? I am wearing running shoes in EU42,5 and my old skates (K2) have EU41,5 and i have lot of space in front of my toe. Now i like to buy new skates online (Because all offline stores just have K2 and rollerblade as a brand) and regarding to the measurements i should take the EU40-41 😶
Great tips! If I did not like Sweden so much, your shop would tempt me to stay a summer in Amsterdam!🤣 👍🏾🙏🏾 🏴🇸🇪🇹🇹
thanks Eugene!
What would you do in case of overweight skaters? That the cuff in many can’t close
Tbh I’ll have a bigger cuff installed but
Frx a nice tight fit in 42 besides the back of the cuff the upper part, that’s not tight that kinda hurts without trying to lace it up with anything
But those have fat fat liners.
Then there is rollerblade lightning that new one. Without tightening anything it’s like a good fit, doesn’t hurt, like if you stuck your foot in a pillow, also size 42
The thing is, changing the thing to clasp the cuff will kill my warranty outright, while frx is only a change of the plastic 😅
Hard choices 😮
1) Install longer buckles
2) drill one new hole in the cuff and move the buckle forward 1.5cm
3) go to Amsterdam for a proper fitting when you want to have something that works for you
4) Most likely a V-cut will work best for your calf. you can also cut it yourself
5) loose weight
I've just bought myself a set of usd sway 57's and was thinking i bought the wrong size. I'm now wearing them round the house until i get out on them to break them in!😂
The real question is how do you shove your hand in the boot while wearing to check if it’s finger width. Things too tight to get down there. Use a pen of similar width maybe?
Take liner out first
For FR1 stock liners and 266/264 mm feet, width: 10.5/10.6mm, the 40 Eu size should work right? I know it gonna be unbearable the first several sessions!??? Thank you for all the info you provide...
Width wise I would not know for sure. Length wise it will be very tight in the beginning, maybe you can put an old liner in it. With an intuition liner that shell would be great for sure.
@@Thisissoul ok many thanks
It will be too small in my personal experience. My feet are 250/255mm and width like 103mm and size 40 was too small for me.
I have the same foot length 264mm and i assure you shell size 40 is not the right size for you. Do not buy size 40, they are 100% too short!
@@doctorgonzo7777 I see thanks
Trying to downsize I went down 2 sizes (and 2 shells). The new skates have about 8mm gap in length behind my bare foot. Is there any liner that can accommodate such low available space?
The specs on our website mention the liner thickness. check it out!
Most Powerslide freeskates is not for wide bigger shaped ancles and feet - will recommend Seba or FR for those feet!
Just flew from Portugal to Amsterdam and your store was the perfect excuse to do it 😅
I tried some different skates and in the end the Roces M12 LO TEAM BUIO size 44 I think we're the perfect match (and I'm a 42 +)
Let's see now when I put some ride on those how it will feel.
Ah thats cool to hear man! Was good ahving you in the store. Enjoy the skates!
Are the superfeet insoles placed inside the liner?
yes
I hear you about the toes needing to touch the front of the boot, but if your toes have to curl when you're in a neutral position, is the boot too small? I ask because I think I'm between sizes. Based on my foot length, I'm at the uppet end of a 41 and in a 41 boot, my toes feel crammed right up at the front in a way that feels cramped and like it will hurt after not very long (I have a high arch already so I don't think I can make my foot much shorter). In a 42, my toes are close to, but don't touch the end of the boot, although the rest of the boot feels very snug. Any advice?
Hearing all this, the advice would be to come by our store and try the skates in person.
Glad we could help!
Pain is for sure the liner you should not cross.
Are the Wizard Base Intuition liners as thin, if not, thinner than MyFit Second Skin liners? Or a bit thicker?
the base liners are the thinnest liners on the market
I scoured through your website for a bit but was unable to find a centralized "internal shell length" table as stated in the video? Is it really there?
we are working on integrating it on our website better. You can find it here for now

Thanks for the Video but i find it to Late 🤣😩 i have 3 Fingers Space in the Shell. The Skates feel comfortable and tight but it really feels like i have Clown shoes on 😢
How do you feel about heel shock absorber that comes velcro'd to intuition premiums heel? Hurts performance?
I would say it hurts performance yes, better to replace it with an intuition insole for performance.

@@Thisissoul thanks!!
@@Thisissoul Do you happen to know what size intuition shim fit a 42-43 FR1 deluxe? I'm thinking classic size us9 but not sure. They have
"classic" M27/US9
"classic" M28/US10,
"refined" M27-27.5/US9-9.5,
"refined" M28-28.5/US10-10.5
Fyi for anyone else looking... classic 9 fits my FR1s size 9.5/10.
I have wide feet so my toes never fully touch the skates
I don't get it he says superfeet insoles add to length I. One section of vide and in another it substracts from it🤷♂️ the way I see it math would suggest that it would add to length since you add to Haight. Can someone elaborate?
it shortends the foot and makes it higher as wel
1) if your skate is too big at the top, it helps to fill up the space at the top
2) if your skate is too short in the front, it helps by shortening the foot
My foot is 28,5 cm. It is really annoying to skate with yahts on my feets.
Hello you guys shipping to Germany ???
ofcourse!
🙂🙏
The insight about avoiding smaller stock liners in dual sized shells has been really helpful! I have been comparing size 39 and 40 liners in the FR Neo 2 39-40 and can barely see or feel a difference between them, now I understand why. The question I'm pondering now is whether the 39-40 shell will be the right size when I eventually put an intuition liner in it in the future. FR haven't released their Neo 1 Intuition sizing yet, curious to see which shell they pair with which liner size.
glad we could help with that. Goodluck!
12:40 real life advice for boys 😂
Jokes aside, I wish this video was around when I got my 1st skates in 2021.
Thanks, I added it to the description of the vid :)
Do you have a video about the frame set up. Most frame you can move to the left en right.
we dont have a video about that topic yet
Hello lovely bladies and thisissoul-team, thanks a lot for this really informative and crisis-inducing video! :D
i have just concluded (after feeling it for a couple of weeks of somewhat intense skating) that my seba e3s are one solid size too big. now i am torn between getting another pair a size smaller or stuffing the skates i have into oblivion and beyond. to be honest i don't feel like doing the latter, since I'd like my power to be translated to the wheels and not lost in an eternity of padding.
do you guys know of a direct way of exchanging or selling/buying used skates? if i get a fitting (new) pair, I'd probably like to sell my larger ones. any resources on that? is there maybe a service, that refurbishes skates?
thanks in advance 🙏🏻
There is no channel for know other than the websites like ebay that you already know.
Hope you find the right skate and I am glad we could help with that.
rollerblade 42-45 with liner 43. It's terrible
My toes go numb after a while, so that's not good lol
More pressure on the top of your foot will relieve pressure from your ties.
-Tighten the laces more
-bend your ankle more. put your knee over toe
-close your buckle(s) better
