I feel like I need to address something that is causing some confusion in the comments. The test was being done on the same exact laptop, these aren't two different machines. The reason why there are two laptops on the video is because I edited two separate videos and combined it into one so everything is synchronized and it could give everyone a better idea of what to expect. I guess when I kept saying "laptops" or "both laptops", it made it sound like these were two separate machines. Everything was done on the same laptop, I just edited two different takes together. Just wanted to point that out :)
Also, yes, I know it's x86, not x32. I thought they were referred to the same thing, only to find out that x32 is not even a thing. Thank you comments section for pointing this out, because this was genuinely something I had mistaken. This is what happens when we assume lol.

It is happens only when factories be able to produce memory planks at least 2^49 bytes capacity each. The most capacitance HDD now is 18TB=2^44.
The 32-bit RAM is only recognized as 3.99G, so no matter how many times you increase the RAM, it only supports 3.99G.
Not even, for some reason Windows 32bit only let you use 3.0 Gb, what I mean is that it is done on purpose by Microsoft, even if you install 4Gb ( I know that a 32bit OS should recognize 4gb) but not for Windows 32
@@AriannaEuryaleMusic I believe that's due to having to reserve a block of memory space for mapping the peripheral IO devices (video display RAM, PCI bus, etc.).
It's possible to have more than 4GB of RAM in a 32-bit OS and make use of it, but no single process will be able to allocate more than 4GB.
There is something called segmentation that lets use more than 4G
There is a fix for this for many years already, just download the fix files.

Nice test, surprising results. But when you say won by some time x, you should also mention total time, so we can estimate percentage. Also for multicore benchmarks it is almost 3 times higher score not 4. Overall good video.
Per your internet up/download speeds the difference is in the drivers. Since you are running identical hardware your system that has the 32 bit version running will naturally run into some pretty severe optimization problems as it's not really controlling the device (NIC) correctly. Most hardware will run either version of the drivers properly, however NIC's are particularly susceptible to this problem due to the way in which they operate. If you were to run this test on a true 32 bit machine, the issue would basically disappear assuming that machine doesn't introduce any other bottleneck issues not present on the 64 bit hardware.

The CPU-Z benchmark difference could be because CPU-Z throws a bunch of 64-bit integers at both OSs. On 64-bit, you need only a single instruction to add two 64-bit integers, on 32-bit you need multiple, Hence the giant gap.
Did you use 32bit office for both tests or 64bit office on the 64bit Windows? Also would like to see a comparison of 32bit office compared to 64 bit office on a Windows 64 installation. Would be an interesting comparison as well.

Could the difference be caused by the CPU? I'd suppose the CPU was expected to be mainly run 64-bit software, so perhaps it was optimized for running 64-bit code?

To clearly see the difference between x32 and x64 you need a suitable config, for example the x64 allows you to put 8 or 16gb of RAM.
I haven't looked at the config of Lenovo's X200s, but by putting SSDs in laptops, this allows the x64 to remove virtual memory which uses disk access as additional RAM, and therefore operation is much better .

I made the mistake of thinking an old computer was running on a x86 32-processor because that OEM installed a 32-bit XP, so when I replaced XP I picked out 32-bit version of Mint only to find the computer had a 64 bit processor. I switched to the 64-bit version of the distro and there was definitely a difference in speed.
The main difference is pointer size and it does make a big difference in RAM usage (on 32-bit, pointers are 4 bytes long, whereas on 64-bit they are 8)

32 bit have segments , im not certain why 32 bit dont use segments (what it actually got)
in a 8 bit instruction cpu a 16 bit bus is used for 65 k ram but with segments up to 1 MB
This just solid information, the fact he did such seamless editing, guides you through everything, had to REINSTALL Windows 7 and apps twice, it's insane the little subscriber count you have. :( But, at least I have been a long term subscriber and always will be ;)
Note that some of the software being used may be more optimized for 64bit Windows, and may be the reason why some of the results goes in favour of 64 bit os.

can you run same test while both notebooks have 2gb ram module? and also i realized, if i install 64 bit windows 7 as uefi it is way faster than legacy boot. not boot time only, it is generally faster. so did you install 64 bit one as uefi?
Is the hard drives fragmented differently? Or did you defrag the os before the test?
I'm rocking Windows 7 64 bit in my x230. It totally works like a charm (no Windows 10 nagging me for updates, no Cortana, etc). I'll be trying Windows LTSC 2019 soon though as browser and other apps' compatibility with Windows 7 is now slowly dwindling.

either the audio doesn't work, or theres graphical glitches in games, programs don't work ect. that happens most of the time in virtual machines
@@marioandluigi2000XD That depends on a lot of factors, such as which VM app you use, the resources available to your actual PC OS, and the resources allocated to the VM too. Some CPUs have hardware to help with virtualisation, some do not. I can assure you, there are VMs out there that run for months, 24 hours a day, without crashing.

I had Microsoft Windows XP Professional with my first computer in 2002. In 2017, I purchased my second computer, which a Dell, complete with Microsoft Windows 10 Home Edition, and Microsoft Office 2016. Today, it has Microsoft Windows 10 Pro and Microsoft Office 2019 Professional. My Dell is my first computer to bear an operating system with 64-bits. This keyboard runs very well. Software problems become temporary and petty. I hope that Microsoft Windows 10 would last a lifetime.

I think you should have tried both versions on both laptops, especially when it comes to battery life.
it's the same exact laptop just recorded twice and then merged together, and you can see that in some of the footage where his hand shows on one side but seemingly disappears after going to the other side
@@alphag4mer909 While the picture is clearly cut in the middle to be able to make some comparisons I think he would have stated that it is the same device, but he is talking about "two laptops" and "both laptops". If he used only one device, the angle of the camera onto the devices would also be the same as he would most likely put the camera centered to the screen, but you can see that the alignment on the left and right is different ;)

Did you then swap and run tests? Thermal paste and other factors could be in effect here. Yes, they'll be differences but swapping the OS for the laptops *might* just paint a truer picture.

I think that the main difference between 32bit and 64bit system is the fact that 64bit system runs 64-bit instructions, which, as the name goes, carries as much as double the data compared to a 32-bit instruction which 32-bit OS uses => which is why program load up on 64-bit is often times faster.
Much more than double the data actually. Indeed it carries 2^32 times the data.
32 and 64 bit refers to the CPU bus width. It means the CPU carry out instructions, level1/2 cache, access memory in 32bits or 64bits at a time. The OS may be 64bit but it can run 32bit apps as well. Where you will see the most difference is in CPU intensive operations. Loading files, reading/writing to disk, network transfers, the bottle neck will be the i/o.

Nowadays windows 10 21H1 uses 2.5 - 3.0 GB of ram when idle. When I open Microsoft edge it maxes out my RAM to 4GB which is the RAM capacity I have in my 5th gen intel laptop.

If you have a 64-bit processor, you can install both versions, but obviously it will be better with the 64-bit one

Ah, to be a kid again. I did this test fifteen plus years ago. And yes, I can say that when I first installed 64-bit Windows XP compared to 32-bit Windows XP everything was faster! And similarly for Windows 7.

are these running the exact same hardware including the same models of hard drives? cause if the 64 is on a 7200 rom drive and the 32 bit windows is on a 5400rpm drive then you would naturally see a huge difference in performance. a different network card would also make a big difference although 6mbps these days is rather negligible.

64 bit should be inherently faster at anything that involves moving large amounts of memory around, because assembly level commands like STOSQ or MOVSQ are moving 8 bytes per word vs. 32 bit's STOSD / MOVSD. This simple optimization easily explains the faster network throughput, faster application start, and the single threaded test. Any scenario where data is being shoved around by the CPU on the data bus the 64 bit platform is twice as fast and efficient.
The higher memory use simply being a factor of the fact that for optimal performance, variables would likely be aligned on 64 bit boundaries meaning that small variables often take up the full 64 bits even when not in use. This is a natural side-effect and factor of any increase in bit-width. This can even be found on the old 16 bit architecture where bytes are often pushed as word width for alignment speed purposes. Even with its eight bit bus, the old 8088 was still faster reading from memory aligned on even numbered bytes, so odd numbered bytes were oft left empty on things like function call arguments. This was even more true on real 16 bit processors like the 8086 and 80286, where the 16 bit bus made reading just 8 bits at a time inefficient.
Much akin to how ARM's orthagnoal RISC architecture makes it many times less memory and caching efficient for code than x86/x64, but doing so gains it energy and silicon density efficiency.

i think a minor impacting issue was that 32bit can handle a little bit more than 4gb ram, exactly 4.2gb, and you limited the 64 bit machine to 4gb

An SSD will improve your system a lot, whether you use 32 or 64 bit. It can reduce loading times up to 10 times. Basically if you have more than 4gb of ram you go with a 64bit version. Other than that you wont see much of a difference especially on older systems.
You should repeat the test with the OS swapped between the two laptops...just be make sure that the individual laptops did not make any difference to the performance. Even with the same hardware, performance could differ. A repeat test will clear all doubts.
Absolutely this one! Without doing this, the test is completely useless. Even though it's the same model of laptop, they have different used batteries, difference is cooling because of dirt etc. Even the temp-differences tells me that the "32-bit" laptop will CPU throttle and therefor give different benchmark results. Seriously useless test. He should have run the tests on ONE and the SAME laptop. Swapping out drives would be one way to do it.

So 32 bit uses the Hard Disk to give the "files" to the RAM and then to the cpu
64 bit uses the RAM and then to the CPU. Which means "Its Faster"
Isn’t 64bit slower on older 64bit CPU’s such as Pentium 4 Prescott or the Pentium D? I read somewhere a while ago 64bit instructions were emulated or something like that with those CPUs and didn’t know if it were true that 64bit would be slower on those because of that or not?

If you are going to use a TR or EPYC, it won't work. Why? Because Windows 7 or any OS that is 32-bit is too outdated and is not going to support modern TR/EPYC Chipsets. And you cannot really add support of that just like that.

Obviously, the 64-bit versions will always be better than the 32-bit versions, whether in Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10, because the 32-bit versions are only for low-resource PCs.

I have a 32 bit windows 7 computer and to me, 64 bit and 32 bits versions don't matter to me. I mean, yes 32 bit windows 7 is slow, but at least you can find something else to do while you wait =). What I'm mostly worried about windows 7 computer is the design of it, and I like windows 7 designs. Thanks for posting the video btw!
The reason everything runs faster on x64 is because the CPU is actually able to process data and instruction sets in 64bit chunks while a x32 is physically limited to half the work in the same amount of time, so it's quite possible that internet download speeds could see an improvement since the OS is performing better.
Not quite correct, as in this case, the CPU itself is 64 bit regardless of the OS. If you were comparing a 32 bit with a 64 bit CPU, then yes, you're correct. But here, internally, the CPU will organise and process data as efficiently as it can, whether 32 or 64 bit code. However, for several types of CPU operation, the 32 bit OS does indeed hold back the CPU.

This is all good, but for some reason I have on an old laptop on Win 32bit go heavy videos on RUclips normally, and on Win 64 bit slow down, with absolutely identical drivers.

I recommend installing Windows 7 Home Premium x32 for home use, on machines with only 2GB of RAM, since the 64-bit one would work very slow in certain circumstances and would require a lot of tweaking to make it acceptable, but with 3GB or 4GB or more, go for the 64bit version disabling unnecessary services and disabling graphical system animations. With 4GB of RAM they can also go with Windows 10x64 also taking into account the processor (CPU) that we have.
PS: in win7x32 (also apply tweaking and disable graphic animations and unnecessary services), same for Win10x64.
PD2: in general for all systems, use light antivirus NOD32 v5,6,8 and a good defragmenter like Auslogics Disk Defrag, and in case of using SATA1 hard disk always use win7, now if it is SATA2, it goes well with win10 ( win10 with sata1 disk is slower).

I was taught in school, and unless I’m forgetting something, that pretty much the only difference between 32 bit and 64 bit is that 64 bit supports more than 4 gb of ram on your computer, and 32 is only up to 4. As I got older, I realize that this is probably only relevant to older operating systems or something, because I’ve seen the difference in 64 bit architecture being more than just higher ram support

In 32-bit mode, data is read from memory 4 bytes at the same time, where as a 64-bit OS reads 8 bytes at the same time. For anything that is crunching numbers, like video conversions, memory I/O speed can be a major bottleneck. Also, when you ran 32-bit Word, Excel, etc. on both versions of the OS, it appears that the WOW64 layer that allows a 32-bit app to even run in 64-bit mode, is doing a pretty good job of supporting those apps.
The original IBM PC came with a 16-processor that runs on an otherwise 8-bit memory motherboard. The 8088 was the 8086 with half as many memory data bits. This was partly to save money, but also because the 16-bit support chips were too new to get enough. So the 8088 could only read one byte at a time, while the 8086 reads 2 bytes at a time.
@@BradHouser Actually, if you have a Pentium or any socket 7 CPU, data is read and written 64 bit at a time even if the CPU is 32 bit.
The memory bus is different than addressing.
When DDR came out, data is read and written 128 bit at a time, if you have RAM pairs.
My intel core m CPU though supports,x86 it refuses to boot iso operating systems that are 32bit
