    PSA: In this video you see a bad habit I had. I would not take the extra time to move my can of anti-spatter spray further away from me before welding. The contents are non-flammable but are still under pressure so there is always a risk of an explosion occurring. I am aware of this mistake and have made an effort to slow down and move the can away before going back to welding. Enjoy the video but please don't pick up this bad habit yourself. Weld Safe and thank you for saving the tractors!

    To Isavetractors,
    Very nice build. It's wonderful to see a younger individual with passion and drive (instead of addicted to all of the electronics). I have a number of older tractors. Wish I had more free time for creativity and tinkering.
    Keep dreaming! Blessings on your future endeavors.

    Norman, great idea. I use to weld with tennis shoes, but I got tired of burning my feet, and I wear jeans, a welding jacket, hat burned my scalp alot. Can't blame my bald spot on that.😂😂😂 Subscribed for more.

      Yea, I have burned up one pair of shoes so far. I stopped wearing my steel toe work boots because bending over with the boots up would hurt my toes. I need to order soft toe boots! I wear Arm protectors now.

    Nice job, a little wider would've made it perfect, won't be driving over what you've just done and less passes ...but still a good job.
    Little tip for drilling, don't go straight to a large drill bit, step it from smaller sizes, your drill bits will last longer.
    Also if it's smoking like it did it's getting too hot, over heating drill bits will wreck them fast, you need some coolant/lubricant on there. I've seen people use many things in a pinch 😉

    Very nicely done Norman. The only thing more that I would have done was round off all the sharp corners which I seem to always manage to find a way to tear my jeans or cut my leg on! I purchased a new utility trailer a couple of years ago and when I got it home I spent probably an hour so with the angle grinder rounding off the 90 degree corners all over the trailer and touching up the paint. I use a quarter (coin) and a scribe to mark the radius on the corners and that way when I grind them off they're all the same radius!

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for your comment, I agree, I should have taken off more sharp corners. Truth is I did this project on a whim to handle a problem on my property,, and decided to film it. I did not expect to get this much interest on this video!

  • @PullStartStables

    Norman, cool video! I am contemplating some type of ripper or even a tiller on the back of a Wheel Horse C-161-8 / Ark Loader I am picking up soon. I know I need weight behind me for loader ballast, but I’d like to tear up soil and scrape it off with the same piece of equipment.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  4 года назад +1

      It's a good idea. You can use a fixed weight bracket that is separate from your implement lift, so you can have both ballast and a ripper. You should also install ripper teeth onto your bucket and use it for both ripping and scooping

      @PullStartStables 4 года назад

    just two things that i have noticed that needs some work on one is not to have your spray can that close to your welding a hot spark could explode your can and if you got closer to your weld about 1/4 inch away from your material you should have less splatter. at 378 on time line looks like you are over an inch away with your nozzle.

    Nice video! I like how you explain what and why you do stuff. I didn't really hear what you said about the spray you are using(my native language is Swedish). Are you using a no gas welder and the spray is to keep the splatter to attach to the steel?
    I have a no gas welder to and will soon be using it to build a new mower deck for my 28 year old Stiga Park. That tip could be useful then.

    It didn't go but two inches in the soil. I like the design but it never proved you can bury the tines 6 inches and rip the hard soil. After all that work and money spent on the metal, it would be cheaper to rent a rear tine tiller for a day if it can only go 2 inches. Seriously I really like your design. Good luck.
    That Klean Weld is meant to be sprayed inside the tip of your welder nozzle. To prevent buildup of slag from the spray. Not to be applied to the welding seem. That you want to be clean metal on metal. Good luck fella!

      Anti Spatter spray is for anything you don't want spatter to stick to. It works great on the metal you're working on. You should try it. I dip my nozzle in an anti spatter gel. I weld with Flux Core Wire so anti spatter spray is a great time saver.

    Get rid of that shitty flux core and get a tank of argon. You wont have all that splatter to worry about

    I cringe when I see flux core welders used for stuff like that. For thick steel I'd use a stick welder unless I had a good mig setup.

      I cringe when I see comments like this. It spreads false information that flux core is not a capable welding process which is untrue. Flux core wire can weld much hotter than gas shielded mig.

      @@Isavetractors not saying I wouldn't use one but for thick steel I rather use my stick welder. Mig is mainly more convenient but cost more to run. I've been thinking of getting a flux core to do thinner stuff with.

      On the contrary I dont like using flux core for the thinner stuff. When I fix the hood on the 4040 I will be getting bottle of gas for it. Check out my JD400 suitcase weight bracket build. I use .035 flux core out of a 200 amp wire welder. Welding 3/8". Keep in mind this Cultivator build is an old video. The suitcase bracket was my most recent welding project. Big difference in the end result.

      @@Isavetractors ok. I subbed today so I'll check it out. I got my hands on a 89 craftsman gt6000 Onan 20hp with sleeve hitch.
