I've been using one of these and it is really effective. But if the soil is too compact, like in Summer time, nothing much will happen except that you clean the field of crop leftovers and dry weeds. You can also use it in another way: pull it up, go on reverse and then drop it on top of the bush. Then you drag the bush out. Brier is common here in Portugal, and it can invade a whole field. If you cut it in pieces, you are multiplying the number of plants since it can easily set new roots.
those who feel the name of the equipment is wrong don't know farmers and different regions. I'm new to farming the hardest part was learning plow names. mold board plow my seed rep called it aka a bottom plow. seen it called both. anyway this is a great piece of quality American equipment. it on my tractor worked it yesterday and will be later today. I use it to open new feilds. so it's goes through old hay feilds and all kind of small brush and tree stumps. I wish I could post my video ripping out virgin land with it. mine is the 5 shank and I'm pulling it with deere 3038e. not a bad plow at all. money well spent.
Some people just have to argue ,demean, degrade or just have to be keyboard bad asses... Those are called chisel plows, spring toothed harrows, field cultivators, field plows, all purpose plows and the list goes on. It all depends on the region a person is from ... So your right.
I have a 2wd with the correct R-1 tread, setup about 3600 pounds(with me) and it will pull 5 shanks nicely. I'm on the edge where sometimes I start to loose traction first and others times the shank springs give first. The tractor model was independently tested as 22.5hp to the tires (28hp engine), I'm usually traction limited in 2nd at 4-5mph and power limited(engine bogs before wheels spin) in 3rd at 6-7mph. I can pull the cultivator full depth in medium well-settled soil at 4-5mph or do a re-fluff at 6mph. (The higher speed throws the dirt better if your just keeping weeds down. But it better be a smooth field and even then not really worth it for passes under 300ft long.) I usually use 2mph for places with possible tree roots just to avoiding beating the equipment, but 5mph is good for sod or brambles. I haven't tried it with the wide V-tips for shallow weeding, I would need a 2 more shanks to properly get my full tractor width(66" outside-outside) and I don't have any decent ag shops in my half of the state so just finding the right fit would be a mail order trial and error affair. (Same basic cultivator design as in the video but from an old defunct company so small sizing and angle differences may be an issue.)
I like that thing. I was going to make a spike tooth harrow but if I can find one of those I will get it. I want to reseed my pasture fields and that looks like the ticket to break up ground just enough.
I have one of these but if ground is really full of chafe and trash it will will ball up under the plow and not work good at all. It works real good after a breaking plow to break up the the hard pan dirt that may be deep.
I love your videos keep em coming please. I would like a video on the cultivator attachment or tiller attachment. Or make a video on food plot tips that would be great!!
Hi Ted . Thanks for the demo. Would it be a good idea to use this type of item on a small hp. tractor such as what I have-16 hp-4x4, before I plow to make plowing easier to turn the ground for the first time? Thanks,Al.
because a plough takes the surface and buries it, it inverts the soil to kill the turf / weeds. This breaks up an already clean surface into a softer surface
I just purchased a WD45 Diesel that I'm eventually going to do a 3 pt hitch, add an auxiliary hydraulic system for a bucket, and power steering. I'm looking for a good plow for it for the garden as an alternative to a turning plow. I know, when new, it was billed as a 3 plow tractor. What do you recommend?
Ted I love your video's , Rake Boxcutter, Ripper's im sure more to come you've helped me a lot with my John Deere 2025 with H130 loader and 46 backhoe, Ripper, box blade, 72'' rake, 52'' blower all Frontier, I love your video's If you were A local dealer Brother you would have my Business for life, Keep an eye on that pickle guy tho, Hes got wild streak in him!
It appears there are several names for this piece of equipment. I bought one of these off an old farmer and he called it a "jitterbug". These are good versatile tools. One good use for it is clawing out briars, honeysuckle, or poison oak, ivy or any vine type weed. You have to be cautious with the Poison Oak and Ivy though especially if you are highly allergic which fortunately I am not. You might think that the shanks would get clogged up when using it to clean up as mentioned above but, generally raising or backing up with the tool positioned correctly will clear it out.
We have a subsoiler which is used to help drainage along with many other things, www.everythingattachments.com/Everything-Attachments-Subsoiler-p/eta-subsoiler.htm Thanks for watching!
Ok iv got a cultivator frame now so how do I get the arms and shanks for the same size you have here? Looking to build one for a smaller tractor. Please respond back with information.
I don't know if Pine Bluff is one thousand miles away from your store, but I sure would love to have one of those cultivator's since I have everything else I need.
could this take the place of a plow once the field has been plowed and worked in previous years? I don't like replowing every year and would like to find an alternative.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Jamir Lyle i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Yeah that thing isn't all that new . When I was growing up, we used one to get the tobacco Fields ready. plow the fields in the fall let them sit all winter, then use that in the spring to get them ready again. Before you run the disk across it. We call him a Tillis tool. That was the name they gave them back then . The gentleman I work for got one from the Ford tractor dealership. It was made by Ford. And no I do not think that's a chisel plow.
+Luke Shirk Some people do use various sweeps and shovels on the field cultivator, but the option is not available from the factory. The bolt pattern is pretty standard, so it makes for an easy swap.
Blake Paschal It depends on the nature of the soil and its degree of humidity. But if you want it to go deeper load it with a sack of sand or a heavy concrete block strapped with wire or something.
Hardly a chisel plough! they are a lot bigger and heavier. It is a cultivator in fact it looks uncannily like a Harry Ferguson field cultivator I used when I was a kid . Another name would be "Tiller"
For our sin, breaking God’s law, we are punished by burning in Hell for eternity, a place with no hope for our salvation. But God loved you, along with everyone else, so much and with all his heart that he gave his only Son, Jesus Christ, to this cursed world to be crucified on the cross. Now whosoever accepts Jesus Christ, God’s Son, as their Lord and Savior and believes he rose from the dead the third day will be saved from eternal damnation in Hell and live in Heaven in paradise with him forever. I'm back here again. Man I remember watching this probably not long after it was posted like 12 years ago!
You guys have been instrumental to my purchases here on the coast of Canada coming from an office Job prior.

Really enjoy my 7ft Dearborn I picked up for $100. Adjustable, and very heavy duty.
looks very much like the old fergie grubber my dad used about 50 years a go !

Can I use rippers on a box blade to do the same chore or does a cultivator do something special ?
Box blade ripper shanks won't go nearly as deep, and I wouldn't cover acreage with one, either.
Can this rip hard compacted soil or only soft soil?
Will this jump over stumps ok? I’m trying to clean debris off of land that has just been logged for timber. Thanks

Good job peanut!
The most important implement that I own
Nice work!!
Cheers! How many teeth can a 90HP pull?
Hi Ted . Thanks for the demo. Would it be a good idea to use this type of item on a small hp. tractor such as what I have-16 hp-4x4, before I plow to make plowing easier to turn the ground for the first time? Thanks,Al.
My old tractor doesn't have down pressure is that necessary for these?
What size would you recommend for a 60HP tractor? It has a 6.5ft wheel spacing on back. Would this work for category 2 if the pins were changed out?
I really like this idea, how much for a 7 shank, how much for a 5 shank
Thanks for watching! Check out all of the sizes and prices here www.everythingattachments.com/Tractor-Cultivators-and-Rippers-s/71.htm
What is the difference between tines and shanks?
Will this rip out very young-months old mesquite trees?
When would you use a plough and when would you use this ripper?
because a plough takes the surface and buries it, it inverts the soil to kill the turf / weeds. This breaks up an already clean surface into a softer surface
How wide is the ripper?
That's a 7 shank, 66" wide one. All sizes are shown here www.everythingattachments.com/Tractor-Cultivators-and-Rippers-s/71.htm

Same for a 5 blade push plow attachment???

seems the Disc harrow worked better? do you sell a ditch attachment not a trench attachment but a ditch attachment? For Drainage?
We have a subsoiler which is used to help drainage along with many other things,

@Jamir Lyle It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Damon Ahmir no problem :D
need a little more info. You are planting potatos in the bottom of a pasture? Is that correct?
What size tractor?
How do you get it deep, I can only get mine to scratch to top
Try angling it where the points are being forced into the ground. If need me, ad a little water to the surface then try again

I have a 9 shank ripper I broke off a shank how can I get a replacement?
I really want to start farming on my land but I don't have the money to buy the equipment. But when I do, I'm going to you guys to buy the stuff
nice video! i have a hinomoto 20ps and i work a heavy, red with a lot of stones, field(south greece!!!!). Can i use a kind of riper? Thanks!!
Have you guys ever thought of putting on plow shovels ok your cultivator
+Luke Shirk Some people do use various sweeps and shovels on the field cultivator, but the option is not available from the factory. The bolt pattern is pretty standard, so it makes for an easy swap.
Luke Shirk ρ
How many horsepower is the tractor?
51hp Kubota MX5100
I wish. Unfortunately, I have hard clay here. I would probably need a tiller to get my ground right.
how deep can this go?
Blake Paschal It depends on the nature of the soil and its degree of humidity. But if you want it to go deeper load it with a sack of sand or a heavy concrete block strapped with wire or something.
I don’t think they carry the spring loaded model any longer.
i live on a farm, and im pretty sure thts a chisel plow, not a field cultivator
You're about right friend I call mine a " light duty "chisel plow. A real chisel plow would be hooked up to 150 hp. IH or there abouts.
The «teeth» points are interchangeable: you can switch to small plows.
Hardly a chisel plough! they are a lot bigger and heavier. It is a cultivator in fact it looks uncannily like a Harry Ferguson field cultivator I used when I was a kid . Another name would be "Tiller"
@cranemaninamerica Yes a 3930 can pull a 2 bottom plow very easily
Sod is better plowed with a moldboard plow, or so is my perspective.
i love and hate bermuda. Runs everywhere. It will fill a garden in less than a season.
why do you do this?
my neighbor complains about my dog shitting and pissing on his lawn so I'm going to get one of these... for his lawn.
this is not a ripper, the tines have springs, its a chisel plow
I wouldn't take for my chisel plow. Had it for years.
Yup, a ripper isnt spring loaded, ours isnt at least
i think my left ear stopped working...
cross ripping would break it up a bit better
Plzz sir i request u for purchase cultivator 11stick in India
cool
heavy steel cultivator blade chalti he... i m from rajkot.. harshad patel
ughhh bermuda grass. I hate the stuff runs like crazy and overtakes gardens and planting beds within months.
weld it. much cheaper than buying a new one and stronger!
my Papa calls it a mooda grass plow.
you guys have a stone picker to get the rock out
search the equipments
i can pull a 8 leg ripper with 28 horsepower as deap as you want with a vintage tractor!
no entendi

@uncle33000 Wow. Cool videos. Nit pick.
Thats a bad rebuild of a stump jump plow
