When looking at the risk of stalking, we need to consider factors & risk markers within 3 main categories:
1. The offenders emotional or psychological state
2. The presence of acknowledged high risk markers
3. Triggers which create escalation
The different types of stalkers present different levels of risks.
Fixated, obsessive stalkers must be ID’d early. Indicators include: breaching court orders/TPOs/bail conditions etc; failing to stop their conduct when instructed; failing to act in their own best interests (e.g breaching court orders); persistence; a need to win.
Victims of stalking who have or had an intimate relationship with the stalker (ex boyfriend; husband you’re divorcing from etc) are at extraordinarily high risk of homicide.
However, stranger or acquaintance stalkers who want a sexual relationship with the victim (cough, Bryan kohberger cough) present a similar risk.
Critically, non-psychotic stalker are the most dangerous, & most likely to act on their threats.
Stalking which ends in homicide is rarely during an argument or heat of the moment. It’s nearly always systematically premeditated & planned, sometimes over a very long period of time.

I watched a true crimes channel on RUclips. When in the end the stalker killed the woman he was stalking, her husband and mother then killed himself with the same gun frightening behaviour 😢
