I got the one with qhd 165hz panel. This thing just blows my mind. All games can be played in qhd res in max graphics settings. Absolutely loving it. Only problem is that the charger comes with a 16amp plug. You'll need a converter.
Thinking of getting one too. I was considering the Legion 7 QHD with 3070, but I'm getting sick of waiting for it to be available. You cannot buy it anywhere. The G15 AE seems like a good alternative, as it roughly the same price in my country. Have You tried ray tracing on it? And how it the display? Bright enough? Honestly the only two downsides that the AE compared to the Legion 7 has, is the 500 nits brightness and the per key RGB.
@@overbe Picked up the QHD version about a week ago and save for a few growing pains that took a couple of days to iron out, I'm really quite impressed with what it can do for the price. Gets loud under load but I use headphones constantly when playing games so I don't really notice it. @@bilydeluke8471 in my country, legion 7 costs nearly 2grands, whereas the G15 AE costs just 1200buks, so i bought the AE and boy this thing is a monster considering its price, well the ray tracing is something that feels like nvidia exclusive cuz it's far better in nvidia cards compared to amd's (like you would be getting 60fps on a 3060 6gb laptop with ray tracing but would get 50-55 on G15 AE) but you would be playing on a laptop and if you want it to run for atleast 2 years then i don't think so you would be having RT on all the time, and trust me, RT currently is nothing more than just making water look like mirror in games, so if you consider the price to overall performance and what you get, then G15 AE is the best, i was confused too cuz the tuf dash f15 is of the same price in my country, but AE also has 12gigs of vram which is future proof, and GPU is something that you can't upgrade on a laptop, so go for the AE
Hey btw If you change the ram for rank 1 time 8 (1rx8) rather than the rank 1 times 16 (1rx16) it will get +30 fps in most games. So it's basically way better than any laptop on that list.
Love your way of going about this review. Very calm, collected and mention all things that are worth mentioning without getting off track! Very enjoyable to watch. Keep it up!
Note after finding out the hard way: The ROG STRIX G15 Advantage Edition comes with a PCIe 3.0 drive as Asus states on their website (I also determined correct, by looking at the product id of the drive) but m.2 slots on motherboard only run at 2.0 speed - in my opinion is false advertising by omission. (i.e. read write speeds on this thing are 2 generations behind, about to be 3 generations with PCIe 5.0 coming out, losing out on quite a bit read and write speed for modern laptops as most come with 3.0 or 4.0). Perfect gaming laptop as you will likely never see the difference! But was hoping it wasn't neutered in this aspect as currently with the drives available today you'd be losing out almost 3x speed of a PCIe 4.0 ssd and 2x speed of a 3.0
They should definitely add a maximum operating temperature and minimum cooling solution standard to that Advantage Edition certification, to provide longevity and sustained clock speeds without throttling.
I have this laptop in India. It is available here in local shops. Mine has an awesome 2K screen, 165 Hz refresh rate, 300 Hz in 1080p with 3ms response time and 1TB SSD.. honestly it is soo sooooo good for the price.. it blows away the intel i7s and i9s and RTX 3060s
@@colterzzz920 honestly i dont really use Ray Tracing in games that much. In cyberpunk i really was not able to feel anything better with Ray tracing on... I just bought this laptop in the UK... I got a QHD 165hz display but no HDMI port! The slow RAM seems to still be an issue here so will be upgrading that when I can. I got the different corner panels and a free mouse mat in the box too, nice touch I guess.
Hey, how's your experience so far? Thinking about buying the same model with QHD I've read that if you use USB-C (with adapter if needed) to plug your external monitor, then it gonna bypass iGPU and increase fps substantially.
@@overbe you need to replace the RAM for better RAM. The RAM replacement gives you as big of an FPS boost as connecting it to an external display, so it's a better upgrade in my opinion. You can also do both for a bigger increase. Heard from multiple people that they love it, RTX is not as good as Nvidia tho. For the price there's no better

7:58 Jeez, 340 nitz is pretty good! Depending on who you are, 340 is bright enough and even if asus gave it a brighter display, it would drain the battery more. I had to point it out because Hardware Canucks seems really dissatisfied for every time a laptop has a 300 nit display.
Spoiled people....
Kidding
I see that Hardware Canucks are learning from Linus on how to do segues
That just means people like me know when to hit the skip button because we already so used to it on LTT videos.
I think a better way to look at it is that HC resisted doing cheesy, Linus-style on-the-nose segues for years, this is a one off, or a test.
Amazing that's all you got from this 17 minute presentation. Graduate from high school and get back to me (i.e GED accepted),

@@ravipeiris4388 who the hell are you responding to dude? I don't see any comments here that are complex hot takes, dude just stated that it appears Hardware Canucks did more of an LTT style advertising segue, and I felt that they had resisted doing that until now. Is your doctorate in overreacting? You feel the need to flex in other comments about how you can afford any laptop you want, then drop your education achievements where they're irrelevant, you have some serious insecurity & ego issues Dr. Peiris.

This is definitely the better display. Haven't seen the 300Hz 1080p on the European market to be honest. But more than 2k euros is quite a lot.

How's your experience so far? Any issues?
@@overbe Picked up the QHD version about a week ago and save for a few growing pains that took a couple of days to iron out, I'm really quite impressed with what it can do for the price. Display could serve to be a little brighter, but its still perfectly serviceable, especially in a darker environment. Performance wise, blazing fast, and the thermals have really impressed me too. Gets loud under load but I use headphones constantly when playing games so I don't really notice it. Note I do most of my gaming on an external screen via a USB-C DP connection, so I'm getting the upper level of performance out of it. Still if you can find one for a good price and don't mind having to sort out a couple of potential issues, I highly recommend.
@@mizukane7247 Thanks for info. Did you get faster RAM in yours? Which region? It costs over 1900 USD in EU. So also debating getting PC instead, since I'm planning to game only while at home.
This laptop slaps. Got one with 2K 165hz, 1TB 16gb DDR4 variant.
Love your way of going about this review. Very calm, collected and mention all things that are worth mentioning without getting off track! Very enjoyable to watch. Keep it up!
Note after finding out the hard way:
The ROG STRIX G15 Advantage Edition comes with a PCIe 3.0 drive as Asus states on their website (I also determined correct, by looking at the product id of the drive) but m.2 slots on motherboard only run at 2.0 speed - in my opinion is false advertising by omission. (i.e. read write speeds on this thing are 2 generations behind, about to be 3 generations with PCIe 5.0 coming out, losing out on quite a bit read and write speed for modern laptops as most come with 3.0 or 4.0).
Perfect gaming laptop as you will likely never see the difference! But was hoping it wasn't neutered in this aspect as currently with the drives available today you'd be losing out almost 3x speed of a PCIe 4.0 ssd and 2x speed of a 3.0
It's available in India now but the 2k 165hz screen varient for ₹155k excellent deal
They should definitely add a maximum operating temperature and minimum cooling solution standard to that Advantage Edition certification, to provide longevity and sustained clock speeds without throttling.
The problem is liquid metal thermal paste cooling. It's horrible
Hey man is it good in games? I mean rtx 3070 ti vs rx6800m which one should i prefer? Rtx ray tracing is bad on amd?
@@colterzzz920 honestly i dont really use Ray Tracing in games that much. In cyberpunk i really was not able to feel anything better with Ray tracing on... So mostly i keep it off and enjoy a much smoother gameplay. This graphics card is somewhere between 3060 and 3070. It can run all modern games at high settings in 2k or ultra settings in Full HD. So you can go ahead with these GPU. 3070 still costs a lot high and 3060 is not that great for future proofing. Another good thing about this lappy is the heat management and sound management. Laptop really manages the heat and dissipates it really well. Also it runs very silently. I had earlier a Dell Inspiron gaming laptop. That used to make a lot of sound. So ahead
@@kalpakkar Bhai... I am planning to buy it. Can you recommend this still for 2-3 years down the lane ?
@@bhavyashah98 mine is now more than a year old. Still runs all games at ultra in 1080p and high graphics in 2K. I say this beast will be good for another 2 years. Hey, how's your experience so far? Thinking about buying the same model with QHD
I've read that if you use USB-C (with adapter if needed) to plug your external monitor, then it gonna bypass iGPU and increase fps substantially.
@@overbe you need to replace the RAM for better RAM. The RAM replacement gives you as big of an FPS boost as connecting it to an external display, so it's a better upgrade in my opinion. You can also do both for a bigger increase.

It’s also a pants down price compared to the USA. Close to £1900. Not bad, but it’s at the low end of the 3080 laptop spectrum, so it’s nowhere near the value for us as it is for other markets.
Germany also has wqhd 165 only
I've got one of these on order finally up here in Canada, too (Canada Computers had them); planning on swapping the system RAM out for more capacity + faster since I've seen that's an issue in a lot of reviews. Will you investigate the memory performance jarrod found? From that one internal shot i can at least tell thise are single sided sodimms.
I mean Asus came out and said that the RAM manufacturer is only making the single rank due to supply chain issues so they're not gonna be getting any of the dual rank 8gb ram.
@@Dashitishere22 it isn't an issue of single or dual rank, and the simple solution to this is offer 32/64GB sodimms.
Simply put, you can see there are only 4 2 GB ram chips on the sodimms, and that is hindering parallelism. That is what the x16 mode indicator in the name of the stick means.
The solution to this is either use 1GB ram chips, which are whats not available, or use 8 of these chips on each stick for a 32GB single rank dual channel config, or 16 of them for dual rank.
