Boiled Okra!

  • In this video I show you how I cook Boiled Okra.
This is a dish that I’ve been cooking for over 35 years. I was taught how to cook it by my dear sweet Grandma Lucille Lewis.
All you need is Okra butter salt pepper and water and that’s it. Enjoy!
Please remember to Like Comment Share and Subscribe.
    Thanks and God bless.
    Update 9/25/2023:
Due to many requests for a recipe and cooking length of this dish I will be adding a simple recipe today.
    This recipe calls for about
1 Pound of Young and Tender Okra Pods
Wash and cut only the caps off, the tops.
Place in a small boiler pot.
    Add 1 Cup of Water.
Add salt and pepper to your own taste.
Add 1 Tablespoons Butter. I use plant butter.
Over medium high heat bring to a rolling boil with the pot covered.
Once the pot reaches a rolling boil reduce the heat to medium.
After 10 minutes check for tenderness.
    It won’t be ready.
Put the top back on the pot and cook for another 10 minutes.
The pods should be done but you’ve got to let the liquid boil down to almost nothing.
Leaving the top off let the okra cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Your okra should be perfect and ready to eat. Enjoy!
    P.S.
All rangers cook differently so be sure to watch your pot just incase it cooks faster. You’ll want to add a little more water if your pods aren’t done after 20 minutes.

For anyone looking for that recipe from someone who knows what they’re talking about this lady does 👍🏻
I have taken a ton of okra from my garden this year and have used this technique she is showing us here a few times already and it’s great.
    She has it figured out.

    • @JackiesSouthernSoul
      @JackiesSouthernSoul  4 месяца назад

I don’t like vinegar in mine. I never cut the tip of the okra off and when cutting the cap off don’t cut it all the way down to the seeds. If you expose the inside of the okra pod it’ll be slimy once water touches it.

This is truly an old dish but it’s so good. My Grandma Lucille, God rest her soul was a master in the kitchen. She taught my Mother very well and she passed that right on down to us. Sometimes okra is tough when you buy it because its old. Always try to cut it at the cap that way you can tell when you are cutting it if it’s too tough to cook. That’s a disappointment to me because I love it so much.

Lol Jackie, you're doing it wrong. Just joking. But you're not doing it like my granny and hers was amazing. Mine is amazing. We have different methods BUT our ingredients are spot on. All you need is butter, salt and pepper. Maybe a touch of bacon grease. We leave the tops on and let it boil down all the way until the butter brows and the slime starts to caramelize. You use a fork to slide under the top and eat the slimy goodness from under the fork. Yes!!!! I grew up on that!
