Watched your episode hunting sooty grouse with Barb. Just now listening to this podcast, it's really cool, hearing you guys talk about her in this episode. That lady is a machine hiking through that forest. Keep up the good work!

We have tons of blue grouse in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. When we are bow hunting elk, we always carry a few small game arrows. The grouse here spend a lot of time on the ground. As you're hiking, you flush them out and follow their path until they land in a tree. Then you can get close enough to take them with your bow. It's great fun and good eating at camp!!

Probably one of my favorite meateater episodes. Its so satisfying when you "f#*&ing slay" something that's been kicking your ass haha

"Fucking slayed 'em" instead of, "Frickin' slayed 'em."
    Rogan would be proud.

You guys need to come up to the Olympic Peninsula hood canal area and then hunt the logging roads after a rain usually the best time to find the grouse

Love the blue grouse story. I was bow hunting blacktails and was walking in ~5:15 in the morning. Kicked one up about 10yrds from my spot in a clear cut. Was sitting there till 6:30 then started hearing that noise and was thinking "wtf is that." It sounded really far away but after 15 minutes it got quieter and I thought "Thats right infront of me." 5 min later a grouse flew out from 5 feet infront of me and a minute later a second one flew out from 10ft behind me.

Hey guy I can give you a little advice on head shooting small game with a 22 I do a fair bit of it in NZ on non native possums which are pests and the fur is prized ,not favoured for food due to carrying a few undesirable diseases such as BTB
Tip one get a suppressor and shoot subsonics for your twenty two (if legal in your state), this increases the weight and thus the inertia of the end of you barrel which reduces waivering, the offset is you will fatigue quicker so have to take your shots quicker, the sub Sonic round also kick a little less and the reduced noise helps with any minute flinching at sound, secondly look into sling wrap technique for standing or kneeling shooting, wrapping the sling around your non trigger arm either in a full or half wrap creates a tighter bond between your body and the rifle and allows for more control and greater stability during firing

I like Steve's squirrel and grouse shooting positions. It's like inverted turkey hunting. Haha
